Recap
- Donna getting into an accident at the building site
- Nick keeping Ringo away from Donna
- Paul telling Toadie that Declan caused the accident
- Steph and Lucas applying for the same job
- Michael telling Lucas he has to do a prac class
- Paul dissuading Susan from writing an article about the accident
Ramsay Street
Susan rushes over to Paul while he's collecting the paper and tells him she's found some more background information for her workplace safety article: apparently someone rang the building inspector on the day of the accident. Paul's concerned until he realises Susan has no further details, so he declares the article a waste of time and tells her to forget about it.
Harold's Store
Zeke asks Lyn which packet of biscuits says 'get well soon' more, but Lyn thinks Donna should get both of them, plus flowers. Susan hangs up from her phone call and asks Toadie (on a coffee run) how easy it would be to get out of a confidentiality agreement. Toadie says there's always a way around, but backtracks when he realises she's talking about Jim Doolan's staff. Lyn butts in and says that it should be possible, but Toadie irritably replies that it isn't unless you have a lot of time and money.
Lassiter's Complex
Toadie's on the phone warning Paul that Susan is still pursuing the story when Lyn comes out to talk to him. She knows there's a connection between the gag on Doolan's staff and Paul not letting Susan run the story, but Toadie claims that he just doesn't want Susan breaking the law. Lyn says that it didn't take long for Paul to reel Toadie into one of his schemes.
TOADIE: I'm just working for him.
LYN: Yeah I know about that, Toad. I've been there remember? You sign on and suddenly you're doing terrible things.
TOADIE: That's ridiculous.
LYN: Well I don't want Steph getting caught up in any of this.
TOADIE: Not going to happen.
Erinsborough Hospital
Ringo has bought a balloon and a small stuffed animal for Donna, but it's no match for the giant stuffed toy and balloon bouquet Nick got her. Ringo asks Donna how she is and she says fine - as far as she can understand from the doctors anyway, "sometimes it's like they speak in a foreign language". Ringo offers to have a word with Karl, but Nick says he already spoke with Doug. Trying to get some alone time with Donna, Ringo suggests Nick could step out and get some fresh air or some food, but Nick says he's fine. Donna says she'd love some juice, so Nick sends Ringo out to fetch it, much to his disappointment.
Karl is in with Donna when Ringo brings the juice back, with Zeke arriving not long after. He gives Donna a small bouquet of flowers and the bickies.
DONNA: Zeke you are as cute as a button, thank you.
ZEKE: (eyeing the balloons) I missed the memo about the theme though.
DONNA: You know me and balloons.
Zeke wonders if she's thanked "the big hero" yet and Donna says Karl's been great, but Zeke said he meant Ringo. Donna's confused - she doesn't remember anything - but Nick gently says it's probably best if she doesn't exert herself too much. Zeke butts in and says Ringo went all superman and ripped the scaffolding off her before doing mouth- to- mouth. Nick gives a tight smile and says they shouldn't keep going over it - they're all grateful but Donna needs to concentrate on getting better. Zeke and Ringo eye one another like, 'Why is he being so weird?'
Lassiter's Complex
Zeke gives Lyn an update on Donna but warns her that things are tense between Ringo and Nick so it may be awkward when she visits. Lyn goes over to clean Susan's table just as Toadie emerges from his office and they overhear Susan on the phone to Paul. After he hangs up on her, Lyn encourages Susan to do some digging, much to Toadie's annoyance. Lyn then suggests that Susan hack into his computer or phone. Toadie's all, 'that's breaking and entering', but Susan dashes off anyway.
Lyn doesn't get why Toadie's protecting Paul, but Toadie says the only person he's protecting is Donna. She could be up for trespassing by going on the building site, which wouldn't look good on her already crowded police record. Lyn frets and Toadie tells her to go after Susan and stop her from investigating further.
First Commercial Break
Ramsay Street
Susan is hovering down the end of #22's driveway when Lyn finds her. Paul just went in next door so Susan thinks it's perfect timing. Lyn says that breaking in would be illegal, but Susan says she has a spare set of keys from Rebecca when they last went on holidays. As Susan heads up the drive, Lyn panics and quickly gives Paul's car a big hip bump to set the car alarm off, much to Susan's annoyance. Lyn's all doe- eyed and innocent and they quickly run and hide when Paul appears from #24. Looking suspicious he turns the alarm off and walks inside his house.
Number 26
Steph shows off her outfit (trousers, suit jacket and nice top) to Summer and Chris, getting their approval for her prac class at the school today. Steph checks that she's got everything - diagrams, notes and workbooks, before declaring that she's ready. Steph really hopes she gets the job because she can't work at the garage much longer and she'd love to help out Toadie with the finances.
Erinsborough High
The students are all chatting to one another before class. Harry gets a call on his mobile from the Basketball Academy but he decides to ignore it. Michael leads Lucas in, who isn't feeling nervous until he sees Steph all dressed up with her folder of notes. Michael introduces them to the class and says they'll be teaching half a VET lesson each.
Steph's up first and has a very fancy slideshow presentation demonstrating something engine related (that I think Summer had a hand in helping her create because there's moving images and everything). Lucas frets in the corridor.
When it's Lucas's turn, he's more hands- on with the lesson and has set up some materials in the middle of the classroom so the kids can pick them up and learn about them. Steph sits out in the hallway, disappointed when she hears the kids' enthusiasm.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul has brought by a gift basket for Donna, including brie, crackers and tomato sauce, her (disgusting) favourite. He's happy to see her looking well and Ringo chimes in that she can probably come home soon, but Nick says that Ringo shouldn't jump the gun. Paul gets Karl in to give a definite answer and Karl says a few days - Donna's hopes it's in time for Steph and Toadie's wedding. Paul says he has to go and gives Donna a kiss on the forehead before he leaves. Nick says that he and Ringo should probably make tracks as well.
Out in the corridor, Ringo can't help asking Nick if he has a problem with him; he's just trying to be there for Donna. Nick goes all protective papa bear and says that he knows Ringo thinks he's doing the right thing, but Donna doesn't need him making things complicated for her.
RINGO: I'm not making things complicated. I have every right to be here.
NICK: You broke up with her, remember?
RINGO: Yeah but I'm still... We're still friends.
NICK: Yeah when you want her to give you lifts all over the place.
RINGO: She wanted to. It's not like that.
NICK: Well it sounds like that to me.
RINGO: I wouldn't do that to her.
NICK: Alright, look, all I know is that you dumped her and I don't want you hurting her again.
RINGO: But it's not going to happen again.
NICK: You're not listening to me...
RINGO: I love her.
Donna overhears this and is quite surprised.
Second Commercial Break
Erinsborough Hospital
Nick stands by the door so Donna can chat to Ringo. She wonders why he's saying all this now, but Ringo admits he never stopped loving her. He was just so angry after everything that happened that it was easier to leave. He thought he'd forgotten about her, but then he came back.
RINGO: I thought I was going to lose you yesterday. That's when I realised. Donna? Say something...
DONNA: (sad) I can't do this. It's not that I don't care about you, I just need to sort myself out.
Donna apologises but Ringo tries to suck it up and assures her it's OK. He walks out and they give each other sad looks through the window.
Toadie brings some flowers by a while later and finds Susan in the corridor looking in at Donna sleeping. Nick is sitting by her bedside. Toadie wonders if Susan's going in to see her but Susan doesn't want to disturb her. Lyn brings in some cupcakes just as Susan heads off - she's got an oh so thrilling article to write about parking meters.
TOADIE: Thank you.
LYN: Don't talk to me.
Erinsborough High
The Basketball Academy calls Harry again but this time he picks up and says that he has made a decision. But he walks past Steph and Lucas in the corridor and we don't hear what it is. Michael calls Steph and Lucas into his office for a chat. He tells them that they both did really well - Steph was super organised and integrated technology, which the teens appreciated. But Lucas was more hands on and student-centred, which really appealed to the kids who are kinaesthetic learners. Steph realises that she didn't get the job and says a quiet congratulations to Lucas before heading out. Michael sees Lucas out and crosses paths with Natasha and Andrew. He reminds his daughter that she's got heaps of homework to do tonight. Andrew can't believe Michael's still on her case about all that.
Number 30
Toadie brings Charlie home from crèche, who is super excited to tell Steph and Summer about the elephant he made. Summer gives Steph a kiss on the cheek and says she'll see them later. Steph asks how Toadie's day was and he's about to pour his heart out when he sees how downhearted Steph is and changes his mind. He asks Charlie to unpack his backpack in his room so they can chat. Steph tells him she didn't get the job - she wanted the financial security to take some of the pressure off him. Toadie hugs her and says it'll be fine. He'll run her a bath and get Charlie's dinner ready so she can relax. Steph's grateful but Toadie just looks tired.
Third Commercial Break
Number 30
After making sure Charlie's settled with his food, Toadie goes into the hallway and makes a phone call to Sonya. He wonders if they could meet up for coffee some time because he could really use a friend to chat to. Toadie's pleased when Sonya agrees to catch up with him tomorrow morning.
