Number 28
Zeke has prepared breakfast in bed for Susan, but she'd much prefer to eat at the table with everyone. Zeke wonders if someone came over last night because he heard a noise, but Karl lies about Dan's visit and says he had to chase after Audrey. Susan asks Zeke if he's all set for schoolies, but Zeke says he's not going.
Number 24
And neither is Kate by the sounds of things. Lou tries to convince her that she needs a break, but Kate doesn't want to leave her family when they need her most.
Charlie's Bar
Declan's fretting about leaving India for a few days but Rebecca reminds him she has looked after a child before. The only thing Rebecca wants her son to worry about is behaving responsibly & driving safely.
Number 22
Donna excitedly invites Ringo inside and is all, "Woo-hoo! Schoolies!" It's nice to finally see some enthusiasm. She shows him the mountain of clothes she's trying to pack and ends up conning him into giving her the extra room in his backpack for more stuff.
Number 24
Lou brings out a bag for Kate to pack, he's not taking no for an answer. He's learnt his lesson from all the DHS kerfuffle and if she doesn't go away he's going to feel guilty. Kate doesn't want Sophie to be a burden but Lou says he'll "look after the pixie". He asks for her to trust him.
Number 28
In a neat segueway, Zeke tells Susan that he can't trust her to take it easy while he's away. Karl reminds him that he'll be home, but Zeke worries that Karl will read the labels on Susan's meds wrong because he's too stubborn to get reading glasses.
KARL: May I remind you I'm still the doctor in this house, I know a bit about patient care.
Susan insists that she's fine - she's even got a meditation class today - so Zeke needs to chillax. She then wonders how he's getting to the beach.
Charlie's Bar
And by some editing magic we see Rebecca hold up a key for Declan - Paul hired them a big car for their trip, as well as paying for the apartment. Well thank you, Daddy Warbucks. Declan's stoked.
Number 28
Susan tells Zeke he'll kick himself if he misses out on schoolies. Karl starts up a "when I was your age" speech, but Zeke hastily says he'll think about going if Karl promises to stop yammering.
Number 24
Harry drops in to see Kate before she leaves and announces that he feels much better now that his bullying roommate has been sent packing. Kate's just about to say she's not going when Declan bounds in wearing a cowboy hat and plonks another one on Kate's head.
KATE: What is this?
DECLAN: It's a holiday hat. Come on, I don't want to be the only one that looks like an idiot.
With three sets of expectant eyes on her, Kate finally gives in and rushes off to pack a bag. Declan and Harry randomly high-five one another.
Number 28
Libby stops by and Susan immediately asks why she didn't tell them that Dan had moved out. Libby says it's not as bad as it sounds and that she didn't want to worry them. Susan says Libby shouldn't have to hide anything from them and wonders if counselling might be a goer - Karl could recommend someone. But Karl doesn't look too happy that Susan is still dealing with Libby and Dan's problems.
LIBBY: I guess it's worth a try.
SUSAN: Just don't shut me out, OK. I can handle it.
But Susan's hand starts to get the shakes. She tries to mask it and goes off on her walking stick to have a shower.
Later, Zeke sullenly walks out with his backpack. Susan knows he's missing Sunny but going to schoolies will do him the world of good. Zeke reveals that Sunny sent him a text saying they shouldn't contact one another.
SUSAN: Aww, Zeke. You could have gone to Korea you know.
ZEKE: (patting her hand) No, I'm glad I stayed.
Declan and Kate suddenly burst in and make Zeke one of their holiday hat crew before dragging him out the door.
Gym
Rebecca and Susan chuckle at what everyone else in their meditation class is wearing.
REBECCA: Oh my goodness, I think there's been some sort of sale on Thai fisherman pants.
But Rebecca's good mood subsides when she sees that Lyn is joining them. They start to squabble about not sticking to the schedule (they're supposed to have Susan time on separate days), but Lyn says that Susan invited her. They realise they're going to have to put up with one another for the sake of Susan's health. They both try to help Susan down onto the mat, bickering all the way.
REBECCA: You should have consulted the schedule.
LYN: Yeah maybe the schedule was wrong.
REBECCA: The schedule is never wrong.
SUSAN: Oh, enough with the schedule! Can we all just relax!
They sit cross-legged on their mats and listen to the instructor, who tells them to close their eyes. Rebecca and Lyn steal a glare at one another for good measure.
Harold's Store
Donna and Ringo have stopped in for supplies, but Ringo can't fit another thing into his backpack thanks to all the business books Donna stuffed in there. Declan sneaks in (with Kate and Zeke) and shoves a fluffy pink cowboy hat on Donna's head. Kate and Zeke chat about how they're not really in the party mood. Zeke strikes a deal - if Kate forgets about "the kids" (that sounds so weird, is Kate suddenly 40 or something?), he'll forget about Sunny. They both realise that ain't going to happen.
DECLAN: Hey guys, last time I checked there wasn't enough room in the jeep for emotional baggage.
They all laugh and realise that they should just have fun and enjoy the fact that school is well and truly over. Hurrah for schoolies! Declan high fives Donna like the high-fiving fiend he is.
Beach
The teens arrive in the big jeep and immediately scope out their surrounds. Two girls walk by, one of them checking Zeke out, so Ringo invites them to a party at their apartment. Ringo and Declan declare this a Vegas style trip I.e. "What happens on schoolies, stays on schoolies" (Declan high-fives Ringo - he is a high-five hussy). Overhearing this, Kate approaches Donna and asks for a makeover, and Donna is more than happy to oblige. Declan sorts out the luggage and hands Kate her bag. When Declan heads off to the apartment Kate stares after him with a small smile on her face.
Beach Apartment
Declan and Ringo scope out the pool before deciding to look around upstairs, but Donna won't let them up because Kate's getting changed. Donna and Ringo look set to have another petty squabble before deciding to wipe the slate clean and just enjoy their break. Zeke arrives with the two girls from the beach and introduces them to the gang (mute random extra Lilli and paid guest Mia).
Kate then walks downstairs all made-up, wearing a red dress and Donna finally taught her how to use a brush it would seem. And just like any makeover scene in a teen movie, everyone is all, "Dayum girl, you're lookin' hawt!" Well, everyone except for Declan who stares for a sec before pretty much ignoring her. Kate suddenly feels self-conscious.
Number 30
Karl drops in to see Libby and with great difficulty asks her to leave town with Dan for a while until Susan is feeling better. It's important that Susan doesn't get anymore stressed than she is now. Libby looks conflicted.
Gym
Rebecca and Lyn are still shooting evil eyes at one another while Susan's eyes are closed. The meditation instructor gets them all to breathe out deep, guttural "OHMMMMMS", but the women get sillier and louder by the minute until they all end up bursting into giggles.
Number 30
Libby asks how sick her mum really is. Karl says she's putting on a brave face but her stress levels are through the roof (well, except for that last scene of course). If that's the case then Libby doesn't want to be anywhere but by her mum's side.
KARL: If you don't go then Dan won't go and that's the point.
LIBBY: I'll talk to him, I'll work it something out.
KARL: Dan's as stubborn as you are.
LIBBY: Dad.
KARL: Libby I hate asking you to do this, and I wouldn't do it if it wasn't for the best, you know that don't you?
LIBBY: Yeah.
KARL: If your mother's stress continues the way it is now she may not recover.
Beach Apartment
The whole place is crawling with teens in party mode. Kate tries to get a response from Declan about her makeover but he gives her very noncommittal answers before walking off. Mia chats to Zeke (who had been keeping to himself with his iPod). She realises they like the same music so she gets rid of the tunes that are on and plugs his iPod into the speakers. Zeke finally cracks a smile. Some toolies suddenly arrive (aka blokes who are definitely not in their teens), and Declan looks concerned. Even more so when they start hanging around Kate.
Number 28
Libby visits her mum and says she's decided to go away with Dan until they've sorted everything out. She's been too selfish putting all of her problems on Susan and the rest of the family. Susan, of course, is not a fan of this going away nonsense.
SUSAN: Listen to me, the surrogacy was my idea remember.
LIBBY: I should have been happy with the way things were but now look. There's no baby, Dan and I aren't talking, you're so sick...
[Susan hugs Libby]
SUSAN: Sweetheart this isn't your fault. This isn't anyone's fault. And if you don't want to go away then you stay right here.
Karl walks in and overhears, asking if everything's OK. Susan tells him about Libby's "crazy" going away plan, but soon realises Karl already knew about it.
KARL: It was my idea, just until your condition improved.
SUSAN: (angry) Well thank you for consulting me.
KARL: Susan we have to put your health first. If you don't eliminate stress in your life then...
SUSAN: Do you have any idea how stressed I feel to think about not having my family around me?
LIBBY: We just thought you might need a break.
SUSAN: To be excluded from your life and decisions that effect all of us? You might as well stick me in the ground now.
LIBBY: Mum.
SUSAN: Oh Libby you silly girl. I want you here.
They share another hug. Karl should really worry about his own stress levels - he isn't looking too thrilled right about now.
Beach Apartment
Zeke chats with Mia and Lilli while the main toolie ushers in more mates who have brought beer with them. He high fives his friend (OMG it's a PLAGUE). Outside, Ringo notices Donna checking out the guys and gets annoyed (especially since she was irked about him doing the same thing earlier with the girls). But Donna just tells him to lighten up. Kate joins them and worriedly asks if she looks like a skank. Donna says no and Ringo leaves them to chat. Kate reckons Declan thinks she looks ridiculous but Donna says all the guys there can't take their eyes off her - case in point, the uber skeezy toolie. Um, yay?
Declan kicks some teens out of the bedrooms, labelling them out of bounds. When he walks through the kitchen he sees the toolie talking to Kate and looks perturbed. Later in the scene, Declan gets jack of the toolie being all touchy-feely with Kate and leaps in to "save" her. The toolie's all, "Back off, shorty!" so Declan brings the party to an end and kicks everyone out. Donna decides to move the party to the beach. The toolie looks like he wants to pick a fight with Dec but eventually leaves. The whole place is now empty apart from Declan and Kate.
DECLAN: You're welcome.
KATE: Well what do you want, a medal or something?
DECLAN: No I'm just trying to help.
KATE: Well don't, I can look after myself.
DECLAN: Because you've been doing such a good job of that.
KATE: You have been ignoring me all day and then you go and do something like this.
DECLAN: Fine, you don't want my help? No probs.
KATE: What have I done?
DECLAN: Nothing.
KATE: So what's your problem?
Declan can't give her an answer.
Beach Apartment
The mood is slightly less tense as Kate helps Declan clean up the place. They find gum on the floor and Kate gets some ice to try and make it easier to pick up.
DECLAN: I'm sorry for butting in before, I shouldn't have.
KATE: No it's OK, I'm glad you did. Toolies are such... Blech.
DECLAN: So are you going to the beach?
KATE: What, looking like this?
DECLAN: Like what?
KATE: Like some overdressed skank in a dress that's not even mine.
DECLAN: Kate...
[She looks up at him from where they're crouched on the floor]
DECLAN: You look gorgeous.
She smiles at him and he leans in to kiss her.
