Recap
- Karl asking Zeke to move home.
- Sunny getting excited about Zeke moving back and Zeke wondering how they'll tell her parents.
- Lyn signing the divorce papers.
- Rebecca asking Steph when Lyn is leaving town.
- Lyn thinking of buying number 26.
Number 32
The headline proclaims "Scully-Wag". Steph is disbelieving, but Lyn can entirely believe that Paul would pull such a childish stunt. Lyn has no idea how she'll get a loan from the bank now, but Steph remains optimistic.
LYN: It hints at blackmail, it practically accuses me of abandoning my own son! I will never get a loan now. I will never get home.
Before she knows what she's saying, Steph says that she'll go with her and help out, be guarantor and so on. She tries to convince her mother that it will be fine, but Lyn seems unsure and upset.
Number 26
PAUL: So, what do you think?
REBECCA: Well...it's um....
PAUL: Witty? Satirical?
REBECCA: It's cruel, actually Paul.
Paul defends the Scully-Wag article saying that it's not cruel, just a profile of a colourful local character. Rebecca thinks it's clear that it is a personal attack but Paul reminds her that she wanted Lyn gone. Susan barges in looking for Paul and as ever doesn't hold back on exactly what she thinks about his journalism. Paul spins the colourful profile line again and Rebecca tells her that it is probably more her fault than Paul's as she said she wanted Lyn gone and to do whatever it takes. Susan tells her she's been spending way too much time with Paul and walks out.
PAUL: Do call again won't you. Come on, we've done nothing wrong.
REBECCA: Oh shut up Paul.
Harold's
Lyn is down in the dumps and tells Steph she knew the bank would knock her down and is convinced the story was to blame. She saw the newspaper on the bank manager's desk. Steph suggest they try other banks. (Surely there's not more than one bank in Erinsborough?!) Zeke swings by and while Lyn goes to see what's taking so long with the coffee, Steph fills him in that it looks like Lyn will be staying put!
Zeke sits down with Sunny and encourages her to pretend he's her dad and she's going to tell him that he (Zeke) has just moved back into the house. Sunny doesn't know what to say and Zeke reassures her that nobody is going to separate them.
Lyn sits back down and is sure that everyone is staring at her (and in fairness, they are). Toadie leaps onto the scene thrusting the headline in Lyn's face, which is obviously not appreciated by either Scully mother or daughter.
TOADIE: Look on the bright side!
LYN: And what is the bright side Toad?
TOADIE: After this, nobody's going to mess with you are they?
Lyn catches sight of Rebecca at the counter, who meets Lyn's death stare and hurries out of the store. Steph follows her out.
Charlie's
So it seems Steph couldn't make the short walk from the store to Charlie's so she calls Rebecca instead and hisses down the phone that she's ruined her mother's life. She tells her that Lyn was going to go back to Shelly Bay, but now, because she can't get a loan, she's staying put so her plan really backfired.
STEPH: You know, Rebecca, I thought we were friends.
REBECCA: I am!
STEPH: Yeah, well friends don't treat each other like this.
Rebecca recounts the incident to Paul and says that she doesn't blame Steph for sticking up for her mum. Paul tells her that in the art of war if you sympathise with your enemy you weaken yourself and assures her that Steph and Susan will come around.
Number 28
Susan is sleeping on the couch while Zeke and Sunny take aim to fire some sort of crisp snack at her. Karl busts them and Susan wakes up. They talk chickens and eyes and eventually Zeke and Sunny go off to tend to said beady eyed chickens.
SUSAN: I just don't remember being so tired with other pregnancies.
KARL: (Distractedly) Well you're older now.
SUSAN: Thin ice Karl.
Karl wants to know what they're going to do about "That" I.e. Zeke and Sunny being so touchy feely, particularly as Sunny's parents don't know they're living under the same roof. Susan is surprised and doesn't think they're....are they? Karl thinks they have a responsibility to Sunny's parents.
SUSAN: Well what can we do? We can hardly roll up to them and ask if they've been...
KARL: Pom-poming? I think we're going to have to.
School Chicken Pen
Susan finds Sunny alone at the chicken coop and starts talking about all the strict rules surrounding keeping chickens.
SUSAN: Erinsborough council only let you keep six and only hens.
SUNNY: No roosters?
SUSAN: Absolutely no roosters. Just no. They're very noisy, they go around impregnating all the hens and before you know it you've got way more than six!
Sunny looks rather freaked out as to where this conversation might be leading.
SUSAN: Of course the down side of having no roosters is that sometimes the hens get very...broody. It's as if all they want to do is hatch that egg and of course in order to hatch the egg, the egg has to be fertilised.
SUNNY: Are we still talking about chickens?
SUSAN: Not exactly.
SUNNY: Then why are we talki.... is this about me and Zeke?! You're asking if we've ever? How could you think something like that?!
She runs off and fair enough really, although is leaves a returning Zeke rather baffled. Susan bluffs that the chickens freaked her out...something about the eyes.
Harold's
Susan and Lyn enter laughing about Susan's chat with Sunny. Susan thinks it's good to see her friend laughing but still can't believe that Rebecca had a hand in the newspaper story. Lyn doesn't blame her, Paul corrupts everyone he touches. Speaking of, Rebecca comes across for a word with Lyn. Susan makes herself scarce and Rebecca speaks frankly saying that she thinks they've both behaved badly but she'd like to apologise for Paul's article. Lyn grudgingly agrees there might be blame on both sides and that they have friends in common so yes they can stop fighting. Rebecca leaves glad that it's all over, but from the look on Lyn's face, I wouldn't be so sure.
Number 32
Steph is surprised to see her mum, bags packed on the way to the front door. Lyn says she's going home and tells Steph not to try and stop her. She can't wait to leave after the conversation she's just had with Rebecca.
LYN: She said she wanted to apologise, but then she made it perfectly clear that she blames me for everything.
STEPH: That's ridiculous. How can she blame you?
LYN: Well I don't know, but she made it absolutely clear how she feels. I even admitted there was fault on both sides for all the good it did.
Lyn says she's really tried, but she's going to be fine. She's going back to Shelly Bay, stay with friends and really get her life back together. She breaks down in tears and confesses that she's just such an idiot for having her heart set on buying their old house back. Steph tells her she's not going anywhere.
STEPH: I'm not going to let you.
LYN: You sure?
STEPH: Yes, mum, I'm sure.
Oh Lynnie, what has happened, eh?
Rotunda
Sunny wants to know if Zeke said something to Susan.
SUNNY: She thinks you've been .... you know....
ZEKE: What?
SUNNY:... fertilising my eggs!
Sunny realises what she's said and backtracks saying that's not what she means. She explains the talk Susan gave her and Zeke tries to make sense of it all. Sunny just can't believe she thinks they're so advanced in their relationship and hits Zeke away as he tries to touch his shoulder. She tells him that she's not ready for it yet, wherever he thinks they're going with their relationship. She leaves Zeke looking rather bewildered.
Number 28
Zeke sits outside Sunny's bedroom and tells her that most adults only have one thing on their mind and that Karl gave him the same stupid talk. Sunny lets him in and apologises for getting freaked out. Zeke says that Karl and Susan can get pretty scary when they get carried away. Everyone in the Kusan thread smirks.
ZEKE: I'm not saying I wouldn't be interested in something more, but there's no pressure. I'm happy to wait until we're both totally ready.
Number 30
Toadie and Zeke stare at the kitchen tap as Toadie turns it onto full power.
ZEKE: I am so ready. I believe in the whole taking it slow thing. But I'm not complaining. It's just hard you know.
Toadie turns the tap off. Nods sagely and turns it back on again. They continue to stare.
Ramsay Street
Karl returns home with shopping as Rebecca pulls into the street. He comments on the "Sold" sign over the For Sale board outside number 26. He asks if she and Declan will be moving into Paul's. Rebecca is stunned to see the house has been sold. She says nobody has even been through the place yet. Lyn walks down the drive to meet them and announces that she knows the place rather well.
LYN: I've had many happy times here...and will again! Karl? Aren't you going to congratulate me?
KARL: Um....congratulations?
REBECCA: You haven't got any money.
LYN: My beautiful daughter bought the place for me. She got a bargain price from the Parkers. Now we'll all be together in our old family home.
Rebecca's phone rings and Lyn gets back to the gardening she's apparently been doing and Karl goes home. Rebecca answers Miranda's call with indignation.
Number 26
Lyn wanders in while Rebecca unpacks her shopping and remarks that the kitchen has changed since she lived there. She starts to open the oven but Rebecca snaps at her not to look in as she hasn't got around to cleaning it yet.
LYN: Oh don't worry about it! We'll probably rip that out and put in a new one.
Rebecca asks when settlement is and Lyn says that although it's thirty days, Miranda told Steph it would be alright to have some trades people in to measure up and quote and since you can never rely on when tradies will turn up, it's probably best if Rebecca just gives her a key so she can bring them in as and when. Rebecca looks mighty peeved.
Charlie's
Steph and Susan toast Steph buying number 26. Karl arrives and takes Susan aside while Steph is on the phone to Lyn. He asks her if she's spoken to Sunny and Susan assures him that she thinks it is safe to say nothing has gone too far yet. Karl still thinks they need to speak to Sunny's parents.
Number 28
Sunny gets flustered at the idea of Karl and Susan speaking to her parents and telling them about Zeke. He agrees to letting Sunny translate for him (as her father's English isn't very good....despite all the travelling he's done for business Sunny? Hmmm...). Zeke promises them that things won't go any futher. Sunny dials her home number and we get a random shot of what I imagine is supposed to be her home in Korea. Weird. She explains to her father that Karl would like to speak to him so she will translate.
KARL: I'm speaking to you because a situation has arisen regarding my son.
SUNNY: The reason I called is because....
KARL: You need to know that he's living under this roof again.
SUNNY: Karl understands that he is just a General Practitioner and you are a specialist.
KARL: We're asking that you let both of them live here. My wife and I will act as chaperones and we give our personal guarantee that nothing untoward will happen.
SUNNY: Although Karl isn't as professional as you are he thinks he can still take good care of me. He would like to check with you that I am still permitted to stay here. Ok...I'll tell him that. Ok. Take care.
Sunny reports back that it's fine for her to stay. If I were her father I'd be more concerned that she was living with a man who felt so unprofessional that he needed to seek reassurance that she could continue to stay with them, but who am I to judge?
Ramsay Street
Rebecca storms across to number 22, suitcase in tow, just as Paul arrives home. She tells him that she's moving out of 26 because she can't stand being there anymore. She points at the Sold sign and tells him that Steph bought the house and Lyn is moving presumably to get at them.
REBECCA: I talked to Lyn, I apologised. I thought we'd made up.
PAUL: Sounds like she suckered you.
REBECCA: Well you don't need to sound so pleased about it!
PAUL: Oo, she's good.
REBECCA: She's making my life a misery. I had to move out of my home.
Paul tells her that he sees it as a blessing in disguise if it means they can all be together. Rebecca thinks that's sweet, but she'd be 500km away if it wasn't for that stupid article. Rebecca goes into the house and Paul crosses the street to see the Scullys who have just pulled in.
STEPH: What do you want?
PAUL: Just to congratulate you. That was very well played.
LYN: This is not a game Paul, this is my life.
PAUL: She puts on such a great act in front of you doesn't she?
STEPH: Don't talk about my mum like that. Come on.
LYN: It's not a game. But if it was, I'd be the winner.
After the break Lyn comes back out of the house for another rendez-vous with Paul. He hands her an envelope. Surprise surprise, it's a check. And a large one at that.
PAUL: Like you said. You're the winner. There's your prize.
LYN: And what's the catch?
PAUL: There's no catch. There's enough money there for you to start a new life wherever you like. There is one condition though. It cannot be in a 500km radius of Erinsborough.
LYN: You mean within 500km of you and Rebecca.
PAUL: Correct. But don't mess with me Lyn. Or you'll live to regret it.
