Jay taunting Steph with a lighter.
Toadie breaking into the cabin and wrestling with Jay.
Jay's Cabin
To the backing of some incredibly dramatic music, Jay runs out of the house and, brandishing a stick, demands that Toadie gives him the keys to the car. Toadie tells him that they're in the car, so Jay rushes in and starts the engine. Toadie shouts at him, calling him a "big girl" for running away. Still, Jay reverses and drives away from the cabin. Toadie hugs a sobbing Steph.
Erinsborough Hospital
Kirsten tells Ned that everything's fine, when judging by the look of her, clearly it is not. She admits that she has an infection, but it's not serious. She is told that she has to have a full dressing change that evening. She explains the horrible details of this procedure to Ned, who offers to sit through it with her. Kirsten asks him not to, saying that she doesn't need help. Ned leaves to pick Mickey up from Susan's and gives her a kiss goodbye. After he has left, she cries.
Gym
Ringo and Zeke come in, without Declan who is moping at home after being told by Bridget that she wants to take things slowly. Unable to find Bridget, they go to get changed. Zeke inadvertently walks into the girls' changing rooms, where Bridget has just come out of the shower. Her towel slips and Zeke catches her in a rather compromising position. Mortified, Bridget shrieks at him to get out and realising his mistake Zeke is equally embarrassed and rushes out, whilst squeaking and managing to bash his nose on the door.
Clutching his nose, Zeke stumbles out and Ringo asks him why he heard Didge shouting. He clicks that Zeke went into the girls' changing rooms and then that he caught her in a state of undress. They simultaneously state that Declan is going to kill him.
Number 30
Callum is very impressed by Toadie's escapades, so Toadie re-enacts the scene a little. He reiterates to Callum that he never believed Jay when he tried to blame him. Callum jumps on Toadie's back and they head off to see Steph.
Number 32
Libby offers Steph some camomile tea, but she stays sat unresponsive on the sofa, whilst around them two police officers take notes on items in the living room. Libby suggests that she should have stayed at the hospital, but Steph shakes her head. Toadie comes in as the police officers leave. As they go, the policeman tells Toadie that Jay might have gone to his family in New South Wales, but he would advise keeping doors and windows locked just in case.
Toadie offers something to eat, but Steph is preoccupied with a feeling of dirtiness - she's had a shower, but she still doesn't feel clean. Toadie goes to leave the girls and Steph reaches out for a hug. She thanks him.
TOADIE: No worries. It's what we do, you and I, we look out for each other. You're going to be fine.
Steph asks him to stay with her for the night.
Number 32
With Steph presumably in bed, Libby too suggests that Toadie stays as she thinks that Steph needs a man around. Toadie worries that it will make things more complicated. Libby assures him that Nicola won't get jealous. Toadie still thinks that it's not a good idea. There's a knock at the door and Toadie goes to answer, finding Elle who is there to check up on Steph. Libby greets her coldly and Elle admits that Steph's story will be tomorrow's headline. Steph joins them, wrapped in a blanket and Toadie rushes Elle out. Before they go back into the lounge, Libby asks Toadie what exactly happened between Steph and Jay. He is unable to answer, but knows that it's really got to her.
The General Store
Zeke presents Bridget with a milkshake as a peace-offering, but she does not respond. She pulls out her headphones and says grudgingly that they're cool. Unable to look each other in the eye, she pretends that it's not a big deal. Zeke is relieved and treats it jokingly. Nonetheless, he asks Bridget not to tell Declan. She seems to have not thought about this, but tells Zeke that Declan will go insane and kill him, which is something he has been fearing. However, Bridget insists that she has to tell him. In a panicked, squeaky voice, Zeke urges her to pretend and she agrees to keep quiet, laughing at him once he has left.
Number 32
Toadie sits with Steph on the sofa and she is desperate for him to stay. Libby has set up a bed for Callum and Toadie goes to say goodnight to him. Libby joins Steph on the sofa. Libby asks why she's so clingy and Steph tells her that she just doesn't want to be alone, she needs her friends around her. She asks Libby to hold her and begins to cry.
STEPH: He walked all over me, Lib. I let him walk all over me.
LIBBY: No you didn't, you fought him.
STEPH No, I gave in.
LIBBY: You were protecting Charlie.
STEPH: I put Charlie in danger. How weak is that?
LIBBY: No one walks all over you, Scully. You're strong and you're smart and you're nobody's doormat, ok?
Steph is still upset that Jay saw her as weak and in need of rescuing.
Charlie's Bar
Elle sees Paul and rings his phone, watching him pick it up and then let it ring. She marches over to him, asking why he is not answering his phone. He seems frustratingly ignorant when she asks him about the story she picked up from the police radio. She informs him about the whole Jay drama and he jumps up, hoping to find Jay. Elle thinks this is a terrible idea and drags him back to his seat. She tells him that locking up Jay is not the solution and that he has to face that he left Kirsten to die, starting by telling her. He refuses. Elle thinks that he should because she'll find out eventually.
Erinsborough Hospital
Motivated by his daughter's words, Paul dons a hospital gown and looks in at Kirsten. He turns away, looking shocked and then forces himself to enter. He tells her that she's looking great and she laughs. She tells him the news that Jay lit the fire. She is shocked because he seemed such a hero, saving people from the blaze. Kirsten is told that she has five minutes until her dressings are changed, so Paul makes to leave but she asks him to stay and sit with her. He looks a little put out, but accepts the offer, although he thinks that he's the last person she needs.
PAUL: Kirsten, when you hear what I have to say, I think you're going to want me to leave.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul explains that the fire was creeping up on him and he didn't think he was going to make it. He spotted the four-wheeled-drive and called out to see if anyone was around. He admitted that he did spot her, but that he thought she was dead. In all the pandemonium of the fire, he ran, leaving her there. He apologises and she thanks him for telling her. He expects something more, but she simply says that it would be unfair to judge him. Paul blames himself, but Kirsten insists that it's Jay's fault and that she has bigger things to worry about. He says that it would be a privilege to stay with her now.
Ned arrives and looks through the window. He seems surprised to see Paul there with Kirsten.
Number 32
Steph hasn't been talking about her ordeal, but Toadie tells Libby that she probably just wants to put it out of her mind for now. Steph calls through, asking if they're talking about her. They join her and Toadie is planning a footie night. There is a knock at the door, which Libby attends to, finding Elle once again. She promises that she's off-duty and comes bearing news about Jay, which she imparts to Steph: Toadie's car has been found at the station and Jay has been seen buying a ticket to Sydney. The police plan to intercept him on the train. They are extremely relieved and Steph hopes that she might be able to get some sleep now. Elle leaves, having proved to Libby that she's not totally cold-hearted.
Erinsborough Hospital
Kirsten opens her eyes to see Ned and tells him that he shouldn't have come back. He is put out that Paul was there, when she didn't want him at the dressing-changing. Kirsten reveals that she has lost most of her skin and that she didn't want him to see her cry. She doesn't care how Paul sees her, but she cares about Ned. He insists that it wouldn't change how he feels, but she still doesn't want him seeing.
KIRSTEN: I want you to still love me.
He kisses her forehead.
Number 32
Whilst Steph and Toadie doze on the sofa, Charlie trots along the hallway. In the kitchen, he encounters Jay (cue eerie music). They clearly did not follow the advice of the policeman. He asks Charlie what he's doing out of bed and lifts him up to bring him back. Callum comes in and Jay greets him, saying that he's just there to see Steph so he can go to bed. Jay assures Callum that everything's ok and he'll take care of Charlie. Callum carefully removes Charlie from Jay's grasp and says he's going to find Toadie. He pushes Jay over and shouts for Toadie. Toadie wakes to hear that Jay's in the kitchen, so rushes to find him. Libby comes in and sees a petrified Steph announce that he's back.
