Steiger accuses Stingray of taking Kerry
Dylan tells Kerry that everything is going to be just fine
Ramsay Street
Harold picks up the Erinsborough News - on the front page is the headline 'What Happened To Baby Kerry?', with a big photo of Stingray underneath. Elle reads it too.
Outside number 26 Janelle is also reading the paper and exclaims 'Oh God' in anguish.
A second later a cop car pulls up with Stingray inside. Steiger gets out and Janelle tells him she doesn't want Scott here - he can take 'im back and lock him up! Steiger says he can't lay any charges at this stage. Janelle asks why not.
STEIGER: Because we don't have a body.
Harold and Elle look up at his words. Steiger tells Janelle that Scott needs her now more than ever. Janelle sarcastically thanks him and walks off. Stingray follows her.
Sky's Hospital Room
Sky is playing with a knitted bootee. Harold and Loris arrive, apologising for being late - they come laden with flowers, which she's received loads of! Sky muses that everyone's being nice. It's so strange being the person people feel sorry for.
Harold hands her some cards to read in an effort to take her mind off things.
Number 26
Stingray apologises to Janelle, who says she'll always love him - he is her son after all. But, if he's responsible for all this, she doesn't think she'll be able to forgive him. The worst thing is she always thought Scott was the good one, who could achieve anything. Now she doesn't know who he is.
Stingray says she wants him gone. Janelle doesn't answer; instead she just tearfully hurries out the room, saying she's going to see Sky.
Sky's Hospital Room
Harold tries to get Sky to eat but she only manages a bite of fruit. Janelle appears - she's happy to see Sky tucking in as she'll need her energy to look after the little one. Janelle hands her a teddy bear for Kerry. Sky gives a subdued thank you.
Karl (who, remember, is the Only-Doctor-In-Erinsborough) comes in - he and a nurse are here to help Sky with the breast pump (if she doesn't express some milk now she might lose it and they don't want Kerry to miss out).
SKY: Miss out? What can she possibly miss out on?! My baby's dead!
Karl tries to convince her otherwise but Sky remembers that Karl said the first 48 hours are life and death for a newborn. Harold says they can't give up when there's hope. Sky asks when they do give up then - next week? Or the week after that?
She wants to go home.
Harold doesn't think it's a good idea but Karl says there's no medical reason for her to stay. Sky tells them she can't handle the babies crying on the ward - she's going home.
Dylan's Hotel Room
Dylan microwaves a bottle of milk for Kerry. The phone rings and Dylan cradles Kerry in one arm while he answers it. He apologises to the person on the other end, saying he stayed last night after all. They'll be down in a few minutes to check out.
He tells Kerry it's time to head off.
DYLAN: Just you and me.
Erinsborough Hospital
Harold isn't happy that Karl is allowing Sky home and Karl reminds her they have no reason to keep her. Sky is very determined about leaving. Harold tells him that the house is full of baby things - couldn't he stall her for a while? Loris asks for half an hour. Karl thinks he can delay her departure with paperwork. Harold and Loris hurry off.
Dylan's Hotel Room
Dylan tries to burp Kerry. There's a knock at the door and, after putting Kerry down, Dylan opens it. Elle is standing there and he closes the door behind him before asking her what she's doing here. Elle wants to know if he's happy to see her - she managed to track him down through hotel contacts. Dylan says he is.
There's a few seconds of silence before Elle starts to push forward, saying she knows he has someone else in his room. Dylan stops her and confirms her suspicions, saying 'it just happened'. Elle asks what about them but Dylan knew they'd never work anyway. Elle, sarcastic and tearful, thanks him for his honesty and tells him how glad she is she bothered to find him. She yells into the room that they're welcome to him - and she hopes he breaks their heart!
As she turns away she hears a baby's cry. Dylan makes a face, knowing he's busted.
ELLE: OMG, Dylan. What have you done?
Dylan's Hotel Room
Elle doesn't know what to say - how did it happen? Dylan didn't sneak in and pinch her. He heard all the fire trucks and had to make sure Sky and the baby were safe.
Dylan has a flashback to that night - he finds the baby in an unconscious Stingray's arms. As soon as he looked into her eyes he knew that she was his.
In the hotel room Elle gently reminds him that Stingray is Kerry's father and not him. Dylan says someone has something wrong - she's his. Elle says he still shouldn't have taken her but Dylan disagrees - he can take much better care of her than Sky and Scott could ever have.
Elle reminds him that he took her without telling anyone. Dylan concedes it might not have been rational but he had to protect her. Elle asks how he felt when he saw the news and realised how much Sky's hurting. He has to take her back.
DYLAN: Not in a million years!
But he can't keep her. Dylan asks why not when Scott's a drunk and Sky lies about everything. Elle asks what makes him an expert on parenting. Dylan asks her to look around - does it look like he's clueless?
He starts to pack as Elle tries to get him to think about Sky. He says she can tell Sky but nothing will come between him and Kerry. From now on it'll just be the two of them and the open road. Elle knows this will destroy Sky. It's kidnapping and will stay with him for the rest of his life. He'll never forgive himself. Dylan just keeps on packing.
Number 24
Harold and Loris clear the place of baby things. Harold thanks her for her time. Loris finds a pair of bootees that Janelle knitted - she could tell as Janelle always makes things too big. Harold stares at the silver rattle he's holding. It belonged to his Kerry; he kept it all these years to remind him of what a beautiful baby she was. He thought he'd do the same for Sky and her Kerry. He wonders how she will ever get through this.
The door opens and Sky, Karl and Janelle walk in. Harold, still laden with baby things, says they weren't quite finished. Sky runs over and hugs her granddad as he struggles to fight back tears.
Outside the Hotel
Elle, looking at Kerry in her car seat, remarks that she's beautiful - she realises why Dyl fell in love with her.
DYLAN: I fell in love with her because she's mine.
He wonders what she meant about not forgiving yourself - he knows she wasn't talking about him. Elle says everyone makes mistakes but doesn't elaborate further (although it's not as if Stax fans can easily forget what her own mistake was).
As Dyl packs the boot, saying how this is the best thing that ever happened to him, Elle spots the keys in the ignition, and, spontaneously, jumps into the car, locking all the doors. When Dyl realises what she's done he tries to open up, demanding she let him in.
ELLE: Dylan, I love you, and I won't let you ruin your life.
With that she starts to drive off. She pauses for a bit before she turns out of the car park, tossing her car keys through the window and telling him to take her car. Dylan stares at her then starts to chase her again as she drives off.
Number 26
Dylan and a pregnant Sky are talking about baby's names on Stingray's video camera. Sky muses that she doesn't care what they call it - she just can't wait to hold it. Stingray looks away. Dylan kisses her bump and Scott rewinds it back to watch it again, before staring, stonily, ahead.
Number 24
Harold, Janelle, Loris and Sky sit down to have a cuppa. Sky is staring into space and Harold tries to offer prayer as a comfort, although he knows she doesn't go to church. Sky nods and Harold begins.
HAROLD: Dear Lord, please give Sky some comfort in this, her hour of need, and also strengthen the days to come. And please welcome little Kerry into your care and make sure she's safe -
Janelle flinches at this, then shakes her head. She won't pray when there's still hope. Harold says they have to move on - for Sky's sake.
JANELLE: That little baby is not dead.
She is not ready to give up. Kerry needs for them to believe in her and, instead, they're just sitting here, praying for her soul.
Harold gets to his feet and tells her that's enough - not another word. Sky covers her ears as tears trickle down her face. Janelle argues that she has as much right to her opinion as he does and she won't give up while there's hope.
Harold tells her that she has every right to be upset at what Scott's done but she has no right to bring her anger into their house!
Janelle decides to leave them to mope - she's going to find her granddaughter.
She pulls open the front door and who should be lying on the doorstep in her car seat but Kerry, all swaddled up in pink blankets (has there ever been a cuter sight in this show? I think not).
JANELLE: Oh my God!
Sky, hearing the sound of crying, rushes over, and picks Kerry up, taking her into her arms.
Ramsay Street
Elle stands by Dylan's car as he roars into the street in her Audi. He races over to her and demands to know where Kerry is.
ELLE: Where she belongs - with her mother.
She informs him that she left her on the doorstep about five minutes ago. Police sirens fill the air as Dylan asks if she has any idea what she's done. Steiger arrives as Elle tells Dylan that she's giving him the chance to do the right thing. Dylan says he was doing the right thing - looking after his daughter!
Steiger jogs over, asking them how long they've been there. Elle tells him they've been there five minutes. Steiger asks who else might be home at this time of day. Elle thinks Steph is - Toadie's car is there. Steiger races off to number 32.
Elle reminds Dylan that he'll go straight back to jail if they find out he took Kerry. Dyl doesn't care. Elle thinks he won't be able to be any sort of father from behind bars. Dylan thinks he won't get that chance now anyway, thanks to her! Elle tries to calm him down. Now he has the chance to prove Kerry is his - the right way.
Number 26
Our talented doctor friend, Karl, checks over Kerry and tells Sky that she's fine. He hands her over to Sky.
Steiger blusters in to hear the happy news. He tells them that Elle and Dylan missed whoever the culprit was, leaving the police to think that this is a random crime. The publicity might have frightened the perp into handing the baby back. Janelle asks about Scott. Steiger thinks he'll have to speak to him further, but, for the moment, he's off the hook. Janelle is pleased.
Sky doesn't care who took her - as long as she's well and alive. Karl steps in (having suddenly realised he isn't a specialist in kids' health) and tells her he wants paediatrics to give her the once-over, just to make sure. Sky won't agree to it but Karl and Harold remind her that she can be there all the time - she won't have to let Kerry out of her sight. Sky is still worried but agrees.
Janelle realises that she has to tell Scotty the good news.
Number 26
Janelle apologises to Stingray, saying he must have been going through hell. Scott says it's okay but Janelle doesn't think so - she had him convicted when he needed her most. She thinks he should visit Sky but Scott still isn't certain of what happened; he could've taken Kerry five times over. Janelle tries to quieten him but Stingray, tearing up, says he doesn't have any control anymore. Every day he tries to make a fresh start but he always winds up with a bottle by the end of the night.
STINGRAY: I don't know anything anymore. Kerry would be better off without me.
Janelle pulls him back, saying Kerry needs him. If that's not a good enough reason to kick the bottle then Janelle doesn't know what is.
AA Meeting
STINGRAY: My name is Scott Timmins and I'm an alcoholic.
Everyone says hello. He tells them he can't keep doing what he's been doing as he hates himself and soon everyone else will too, if they don't already. He stole money from his sister and something even more important from his brother. He broke the heart of the girl who loved him. He feels sick when he thinks of the things he's said to people. He doesn't want to be like this anymore. He tells them he became a father last week and that's why he's here.
STINGRAY: I just want my little girl to be proud of me.
Erinsborough Hospital
Kerry's check up is over and what do ya know - it's Karl who's standing there, making notes. Let's just presume the paediatrician left a few moments earlier. Karl tells her that all of Kerry's tests prove that she's completely healthy.
Sky can't believe that Kerry came so early. Karl agrees, looking slightly puzzled for a moment, before saying that the baby is coping very well.
Stingray appears and Karl leaves. Stingray smiles as he sees Kerry - she's so small! Turning his focus to Sky he tells her things are going to get better. He's getting help and is going to make sure she and Kerry have everything they need. He'll never let them down again. Sky reminds him not to let himself down. Scott smiles.
Erinsborough Hospital
In the corridor Loris and Janelle celebrate Kerry's safe return with champagne. Steiger says these types of situations don't usually end so well. Harold isn't sure that champers is the right way to celebrate but Janelle shoots his concerns down - if they can't kick up their heels now, they might as well call it quits! Steiger refuses a glass as he's on duty but tells Janelle to go ahead.
JANELLE: To second chances and miracles!
They toast.
Loris thinks it's wonderful and Harold agrees. He thinks that Janelle is quite right...and, without further ado, he plants a massive kiss on Loris.
Janelle stares for a minute and then, thinking what the hell, pulls Steiger towards her and gives him a kiss!
Number 26
Janelle is raving about how terrifically wonderful baby Kerry is. Stingray agrees - and she's so small! Janelle thinks Kerry looks like him (she has his eyes).
Dylan walks in and Janelle presumes he's heard the good news (as he has). She informs him that Scott has been to AA and tells him that he should visit Kerry - she's sure she'd love to meet her Uncle Dylan. Dylan says nothing. Janelle is serious about this, as Scotty needs all the help they can give him to be a good dad. Dylan sighs.
Scott says to Dylan that it's pretty mindblowing - him being a father.
DYLAN: You are kidding yourself, mate. The only thing you're gonna do is stuff up that little kid's life.
He walks off and Janelle pursues him as Scott looks worriedly around him.
Erinsborough Hospital
Sky is making faces at Kerry when Dylan creeps in. He asks if Kerry's alright and Sky says she's amazing - she never knew she'd feel this way about her daughter.
Kerry starts to cry and Sky is worried, saying she just fed her. Dylan thinks she might just need to burp. As Sky bounces her a little Dylan tells her that Kerry needs her back rubbed and not patted; firmly, not too softly. Sky thinks he really knows his stuff - how can he tell just by looking at her?
DYLAN: I can tell because this baby is mine. And I have never been more certain of anything in my life.
