Recap
Rosetta telling Carmella that she now lives in Ramsay Street, at number 30.
Katya telling Ned their relationship is about having fun; no more, no less.
Bob showing Boyd Max's wedding ring, and demanding money for it; Boyd turning apoplectic and demanding to see his father.
It's another cheery day in your favourite sunny soap! Altogether now... "Aaahhhhh...."
Number 32
Sgt Steiger tells Boyd that Bob Mould (that is the best name ever) is known to police, and not a violent person - on the other hand, Boyd *is*!
Thankfully, Jet Wilkinson is directing this one (I like her direction) so I'm holding out some hope.
But back to the secondary story which is that a witness apparently saw Max hand over his wedding ring to Bob Mould. Boyd doesn't believe it, and Steiger tells him to cut out the vigilante behaviour. I like Steiger. He's a great regular on the street. Janae takes her husband's arm and persuades him to leave. Looks like she's also had her hair lightened, or maybe it's just her duck egg blue top doing that.
After Boyd leaves, Steph confesses that she could believe that Max gave his ring to Bob Mould; he gave lots of cash away to a homeless woman, recently, too. She says Max wasn't well, but Steiger suggests he was trying to leave his past behind him... Steph maintains he didn't know what he was doing, but Steiger points out that he must have known, as he managed to give the police, doctors and security guards the slip.
Steiger suggests that Max has done a runner as he's facing a serious manslaughter charge. Steph is in denial about that, and rightly so - hello! In the words of Janelle: pick up the clue phone, guys! We *all* know the reason he had to get away was to appear in the Edinburgh festival. He's on a plane right now.
The Timmins' House
Janae tells Boyd she knows what he's going through, and I love her hair, despite the fact that it's been straightened (so very unnatural to straighten hair). Boyd can't believe that she's comparing Kim to Max.
JANAE: He wasn't that bad.
BOYD: Yeah, he was Janae.
JANAE: Well maybe Max is like my dad. Maybe he doesn't wanna be found.
Yeah. Or maybe he had a better offer with a script that didn't involve persistent crying and nervous breakdowns and require the ongoing use of sad underscores.
Boyd declares that he'll bring his dad back, no matter what the cops say. His dad has always been there for them. He's a great dad. And Janae agrees.
The General Store
Carmella and Rosetta - looking frighteningly like sisters, which is good, given that they are - sit at a table and make themselves comfy when Ned and Katya wal...
Carmella tells Rosie that she and Ned once 'thought about it' (giving up the day job, perhaps?) and announces that she's going back to the convent! Hurrah! NunCarmella! She was fun. Plus it makes life so much easier for the Wardrobe department.
Rosie can't believe it, and thinks that maybe having a relationship with her sister was too much to hope for. Carmella gazes at Ned who is cuddling in the corner with Katya at th...
Ros suggests that Carmella run workshops in the art of 'moving on'. Carmella tells her sister that the decision not to be with Ned wasn't entirely her own, and Ros tells her to find her fighting spirit. Why? Why? Why would you do that? Give up, I say. You're better off.
Pepper runs in wearing a top that makes me feel ill, and announces that she's had five coffees and is useless until she's had six. She's also annoying. She has a job interview and is very nervous about it. She bounces off Tigger-like to get coffee for her and Ros. Ros tells Carmella to listen to her big sister right now: write Ned a letter and tell him everything. After all, she can't go back to the convent with lustful thoughts about men.
In the background, there's a cute extra sitting at a table, and Ned and Katya continue to cudd...
The Scarlet Bar
Boyd is on the phone telling a creditor that Max will be back soon. Frazer and Will are wanting a drink but Boyd walks off, so they sit at a table and talking betting. Frazer tells Will that his gambling is a business (although Will points out that it doesn't pay taxes, so...), and shows him his tools of the trade. Three mobile phones - business, pleasure and a direct line to his betting agent. He likes it when they all ring, especially pleasure - but then picks up the betting agent phone when he says it, so that didn't quite work.
Anyway. He asks Will if he'd like to make a bet; it's all very scientific, after all, and nothing to do with luck. You've got to do your research, apparently. Will refuses to make a bet, but asks how much money Frazer will throw away today?
FRAZER: Well, that depends how much you - out of the goodness of your heart - decide to lend me. I'm down to my last twenty.
If Will's got money, then Frazer can promise him the ride of his life.
Ramsay Street
Carmella has written Ned a letter and is about to post it in his letter box, but she's scared. Ros makes her do it. Katya is washing her car and watching from a distance.
As Carmella wanders off, Steph runs up to Rosetta - apparently things could get much worse for Max and she's all a-fluster. The police think that Max has done a runner, but Rosetta is confident - they have some great medical stuff to back up their argument, and she's not worried about it.
As Steph and Rosie walk away, Katya seductively eyes up the letter box in a make-love-to-me-right-now look that should be reserved for Susan and Karl only.
The General Store
Rosetta thanks Pepper for the pep talk (it's worked in as a really bad joke, that one) about standing up to her mother; it's worked wonders! Pepper thinks that Will is the hottest thing ever, but Ros reminds her she's engaged to be married.
PEPPER: And your point is?
Rosetta has clients to meet, and runs into Susan who approaches Pepper and comments that she hears she's applied for the Fizz Head job at school. Phys Ed - Fizz Head....geddit? This is so bad.
Pepper tells Susie that she's settling in great except for one neighbour. She thinks his name's Karl.
PEPPER: What a boring whinger. He's such a George Clooney wannabe. You know, he was moaning about the noise we were making...
Susan interrupts and tells her she looks forward to the interview. Over lunch at her house?? Number 28!
Number 32
Boyd is missing and Janae and Steph are worried. He's gone looking for Max, and Janae tells Steph not to go too hard on Boyd. Janae tells her the story that one of the med students called Max a loony, and Boyd pretended that he didn't know him, so now he feels awful and needs to make up for it all.
Sydney
Toadie is celebrating a big case win with a beer when he gets a call on his mobile from Steph. He family's falling apart and she doesn't know what to do, and her mum's in America. Toadie calms her down - they're going to deal with it. Good ol' Toad.
Number 28
Susan is rather unconventionally interviewing at home and it's all a disaster.
SUSAN: Okay, so tell me. You've got a class full of kids who are unco-ordinated, unfit and overweight. Where do you start.
PEPPER: Well, I'd get them in a line, face down, doing push ups. Then I'd run a mile in the other direction. Too hard.
SUSAN: ...
Pepper says she was kidding and starts her little passionate plea about why she wanted to do Phys Ed. 20% of kids are out of shape; it's a big problem and it's getting worse. If kids are fit they feel good about themselves, then everything else works. Mmmm. Not sure its *that* simple. But hey.
Pepper sees a picture of Karl on the dresser in the corner...
SUSAN: Was my husband, now my partner...
Pepper freaks out and runs through the door. In this case, quite literally, but it's closed, so instead she runs into the door and hurts herself. Susan is bemused and concerned all at the same time which comprises a funny look on her face.
The Scarlet Bar
Frazer and Will are listening to a bet; Will thinks they've lost, but it turns out that they've won six hundred dollars. Not bad for a day's work. Janae asks if they've seen Boyd anywhere, and they haven't. Steiger springs the boys, and wants to know if they've seen his daughter - they tell him she'll be at the job interview. Steiger then sees Janae at the bar who denies that she's working, so Will leaps behind the bar and tries to cover for her by offering Steiger a drink. Luckily he doesn't, as it turns out that Will doesn't know how to pull a pint.
Number 32
Toadie turns up on Steph's doorstep and she's thrilled to see him. He tells her that Sydney is overrated, and wants to know the whole story. Toadie promises to find him and get the help she needs.
The Scarlet Bar
Pepper has told Rosetta what happened, and can't believe what she said about Karl to Susan. And she really wanted the job! Susan appears out of nowhere - NinjaSuse - and Pepper says she was coming to apologise to her...
Susan then inexplicably gives her the job. With no knowledge of her whatsoever. Is she crazy? She tells Pepper she was the best candidate. Based on what, exactly?? Has Susan lost her mind? It's not that I dislike Pepper, but you don't as an authority figure working with kids give someone a job on that basis. You just don't.
Pepper goes to get drinks, and Frazer and Will are at the bar (Will is behind it) and she tells them she got the job. They are too focused on the betting to really hear her news.
PEPPER: Honey, I got the job! I was such a professional.
Number 30
The letter to Ned is on the table. Katya paces round it like a Cheetah waiting to pounce on its prey.
She pounces.
She reads the letter from Carmella wanting to talk about 'us'. Carmella has asked Ned to meet her at 1930 at the lake. Toadie and Ned return and Toadie's surprised to see Ned and Katya together. He's even more surprised to hear that there is actually no room for him to stay in his house any more as there are more people there than expected. He'll stay at Lassiters tonight, but that's it!
He leaves, and Ned says he'll go find the others. Katya's not happy about that - she wants Ned to stay here so she can seduce him - and keep him away from Carmella, apparently.
Lassiters Lake
Carmella waits by the lake, then spies Boyd. She asks after Max, and admits she's waiting for someone who's not gonna show.
BOYD: Guess that makes two of us, then.
Carmella tells him to go home to his family. They need him, and he needs them.
The Scarlet Bar
Steph thanks Will for coming to Janae's rescue earlier. She gives him a job. There you go. It's a day for just giving and taking jobs, apparently. Frazer and Pepper sit in The Scarlet Bar and wait for Steiger to join them for a meal to pretend to be one big happy family. Pepper makes an excuse to leave them to it, and Steiger warns Frazer that he doesn't like him, and he and his colleagues will be keeping an eye on him. Frazer denies he's done anything wrong, but Steiger's playing Dad and wants his little girl treated well...
Toadie appears and runs into Rosetta, before speaking to Steph. Steph offers a room at hers - she could do with the company. He agrees.
Number 32
Boyd returns home and Janae is thrilled to see him. Boyd isn't so thrilled to see Toadie, though, and accuses Steph of trying to shack up with her 'boyfriend' whilst Max is gone. Steph drags her step-son into the hallway and demands an apology from him, but Boyd starts to cry. Steph tells him that Max knew he loved him. They agree to continue to keep looking for Max together.
The Scarlet Bar
Pepper tells Rosetta that her father made Frazer feel awful after the grilling he gave him, but Ros is distracted by Carmella's arrival at the bar. Carmella approaches Ned and Katya who are having a drink.
Ned asks if she'd like to join them, but confused, she declines. Ned doesn't get it, so Katya tells him that Carmella is a complex person.
Carmella sits with her sister, and after Pepper leaves, she tells her that Ned stood her up. And then acted like there was no letter at all. Rosie clicks - maybe Katya saw them putting the letter there and took it out...
ROSIE: I think it's time to take the gloves off. You're not in the convent anymore, kiddo.
*I've never been to Cuba. Bam, bam. BAM.*
