Lyn breaks away from Paul and wonders what the hell she's doing. Paul helpfully says it's what she always wanted to do, which goes down like a lead balloon with our Lynnie. Paul still maintains that she wants him – and she knows it. Lyn betrays her hostility by reaching over the counter to smack another one on him.
The resident psychologist, Dr Levi, spots that Karl's looking a wee bit tired and Karl admits that he's been going through a rather rough time of late. Levi suggests meditation but Karl's tried that and counted every sheep in New Zealand. He hasn't been taking another stronger than camomile tea but he might have to change that as his insomnia is beginning to affect his work.
Levi has an idea – a drug rep gave him a new syrup that's meant to knock one out for eight solid hours. Karl decides to give it a bash.
Steph finishes talking to Susan about the baby belt business; Susan, like Steph, can't believe that Lyn is still defending Paul.
Once Susan has left Izzy tells Steph that no one knows Paul like she does – they're soulmates. Steph says that's rubbish – Paul has no soul. Izzy says she'll make sure Lyn is compensated in some way. Steph thanks her but doesn't think Izzy can do anything about it. Izzy is all depressed about Paul and Steph tries to make her see the bright side – now she can look for ‘The Real Thing'. Izzy thinks she's never had that but then Steph points out she had Karl, who really did love her. If she had it once then she can have it again.
Rachel is going to watch a DVD with Boyd and Janae. Something's clearly up with Rachel and Janae tries to get her to spill. Eventually Rachel tells her that she's stuffing things up with Stingray by being immature and Boyd unhelpfully tells her to go and talk to him about it, which Janae disagrees with; Rachel should keep up with the silent treatment and Stingray will be over in a shot.
Boyd wonders why they're going to couples counselling when Janae appears such a whiz with relationship advice. He tells Rachel to go and see Susan, who's great with this stuff, but Janae says she can't ask relationship advice from her step-mum.
Toadie returns and Rachel dashes out of sight. They try to make excuses for the overturned bowl of ice cream at the table, quite unsuccessfully.
It's 10:29pm and Karl takes some of the sleep syrup.
He sleeps for a while then wakes up at 11:55. He goes and gets a drink then sits on the edge of the bed, sighing.
Susan has come round to have a go at Paul over the baby belt fiasco and is very surprised to find it's Lyn who answers the door. Paul chortles to himself as Lyn tells Suse that she's trying to work on Paul to get him to back down. Susan wants her to talk to Toadie to find where she stands legally. Paul is capable of anything. Lyn has some negotiating to do so Susan leaves.
Lyn grabs her stuff as Paul tries to get her to stay longer. She reminds him about the patent infringement, which might be in her name, but it's their problem, so Paul has to think of a way out of it.
LYN: Sweet dreams.
She leaves then smiles to herself as she closes the door behind her.
Janae wants to accompany Boyd to work but Boyd isn't so sure. Janae promises she'll find something to do so he relents. Rachel appears to ask if Toadie has already left (it looks like he has).
After the happy couple have left Rachel goes to the kitchen, listening to her iPod. A pair of bare legs appear up the hallway – it's Toadie, singing about being nude in his house. Rachel turns around in the kitchen to be greeted by the sight of a naked Toadie!! After they've both overcome the shock Toadie asks what she's doing there. Rach says she's over to borrow a DVD but Toad won't buy it. He's annoyed to find she slept in the cupboard and tells her to get back to Susan's – she can't stay here. Rach tells him to make her.
Yay, BikerChick Steph! Izzy brings her a cuppa as she annoys the neighbours by revving up the bike engine a few times over. Izzy admits the cuppa was to stop the noise, which Steph has a giggle at. But her chuckles turn to disgust when she sees Lyn across the street, talking to Paul.
Lyn is telling Paul they're going to the office to sort things out but Paul won't go there without an incentive. Lyn reminds him that if she gets burned by this then so will he – and with his history he'll be going to jail. Paul tells her that he wasn't alone in this – he had a partner, who's watching them from across the street. It was all Izzy's idea. Lyn meets Izzy's eye and gives her a nasty look.
Zeke scares the life outta Steph and Izzy by chucking a ball at them. Izzy chucks it away (but not before commenting on his growth spurt) and Zeke leads us to number 30, where Toadie is carrying Rachel (and her stuff) out of the house. Rachel pleads and pleads with Toadie not to make her go back but he continues steadily towards Susan's…
TOADIE: I found something in the fridge. I think it belongs to you.
Susan apologises to Toadie, saying it won't happen again.
Karl finishes off tending to Charlie, who Steph has sleeping through the whole night now. Karl only wishes he could get a straight seven hours a night. Charlie's been a brave boy, who thankfully doesn't take after Max when it comes to needles. Lyn, waiting out in the hall, is glad to hear his inoculation went well.
Karl has forgotten about a form Steph has to sign, so he goes off to find it. Lyn muses that he looks awful but Steph's more interested in why Lyn was with Paul. Lyn tells her that she's working on a solution with him but Steph tells her to back off, as it was Paul who got her into this mess in the first place. Look at Izzy….
Lyn informs her that it was actually Izzy herself who came up with idea of Lyn taking the blame. Steph asks how she knows Paul isn't just passing the buck. Lyn tells her she just knows – Izzy had a *big* part in it.
Coincidentally Boyd and Janae are here too. Janae surprises Boyd with the news she has a cleaning job at the hospital – part-time. Boyd is a bit taken aback as they don't really need the money. Janae squeals that they can have lunch together now. Boyd tries to look happy about it.
Zeke has a go at Rachel for being such a sulk. He tells her that Susan's been so good to her and loves her more than anyone else in the world (well, along with Zeke). Rachel says she's sorry and starts to cry. Susan hugs her and tells her how glad she is that she's back. She suggests they go out for coffee and cake but Zeke doesn't want to leave the house because of his moustache (which Izzy alluded to earlier). Susan and Rachel ask what moustache, smiling at each other.
Steph chucks some suitcases onto the pavement (two guesses who they belong to). Meanwhile, Janae and Boyd talk as they walk into the street; Janae is annoyed that Boyd isn't happy about her new job – they'll have so much in common now.
JANAE: We can talk about sickness and patients and stuff.
They wave to Steph, who's revving up her bike again.
Steph is making notes in a notebook when Izzy appears to find her bags on the street. Steph tells her she knows what she did. Izzy asks where she heard it; Paul is a master of shifting the blame. But Steph is certain it's true – she believes what her mum says. Izzy says (unable to look Steph in the eye) that it's all Paul's influence… and, besides, Max said she could stay. Steph doesn't care – she won't live under the same roof as her.
STEPH: What the hell are you still doing here, Izzy? GO!
Izzy is in shock.
Janae is still annoying Boyd with stuff from the hospital – she knows he stuffed up a blood pressure thingy and he's down about it. Boyd can't do this. He wants to spend time with her but he can't be with her all the time. Janae reminds him what the counsellors said about couples drifting apart but Boyd reminds her that doesn't apply to them – they don't have tons of other responsibilities that force them away from each other.
Steph appears and says it was Janae. Janae is confused as to what she's on about, as is Boyd. Steph goes on to tell them that she's had a second phone call from the council, complaining about her working on her bike. She thought they wouldn't have dobbed her in, given that she loves them and sticks up for them. She knows it was them is they were the only two people at home in the street at the time.
Apart from Toadie, who is evilly stroking his beard as he listens on the other side of the wall. Tsk, Toad, how could you???!!
Where Lyn and Paul are having champagne and being not very nice to Izzy. Paul thinks he's met his match in Lyn but she tells him not to be so silly – she's decent, for starters. She tells him she'll fight for her family to the death and she won't lose. Paul can see that.
Karl tells Izzy that he thought she and Paul were a match made in heaven. Izzy retorts that not everyone can be perfect like him and Susan. Karl wishes they were – but that's all in the past now. Izzy apologises, having not known, and offers to pour out the details of her sorry saga, which would surely send him to sleep in seconds. Karl isn't sure he's the right person but then decides he can lend an ear, if not a brain. Izzy looks well chuffed.
Rachel and Susan are having fun family time, playing cards. Zeke comes in, hands over his face, and reveals to them that he had a shave but gave himself a few cuts in the process. Rachel thinks it's hilarious, especially when clueless Zeke reveals he didn't use shaving cream or soap. Susan is beginning to think that maybe they do need a man around the house.
The one person who would be more than happy to take on that role is almost comatose as Izzy rattles off her life story. Karl's so drowsy that Izzy decides to drive him home.
Here's a place Izzy hasn't been to in a year or so. She tells Karl to take a seat while she makes up his bed. Karl apologises for being so sleepy and Izzy decides to make him a drink. She spots the sleep syrup and mumbles to herself about herbal stuff never working. She pours out a good drop of it into the glass and hands it to Karl, who gulps it down.
Karl's Flat again
Karl is sleeping and Izzy pops her head round the door to check on him. He opens an eye and we see that Karl is very drowsy indeed, so much so that he's almost seeing double. He focuses on a blurry Izzy, who then metamorphoses into BlurrySusan™!
Izzy tells him she's going to go but Karl tells her not to. BlurrySusan™ asks what's wrong and he asks her to stay. Izzy says she'll stay on the couch but Karl wants her to stay in here, with him. BlurrySusan™ smiles back as Karl keeps blinking, almost falling back to sleep. Izzy walks over the bed and kneels down beside him as Karl tells her he needs her.
KARL: If you stay, everything will be alright.
He kisses her. Izzy can't believe it, smiling as she tells him over and over that she's here. They kiss again…
