Recap
- Squealing. Janelle's going to be on Rove. You know, ROVE! Squealing again. Bree squeals, Scott squeals.Lyn had Charlie prayed for by a priest, so Steph squeals at her.Rove looks like Jon Stewart, and asks Breezer if she wrote the book. Bree looks very pretty in pink.
Will she ruin her mother's life? Let's find out...
AAAAHHH, Neighbours...
Rove Studio / No 26 / Erinsborough High where we Rove
Lyn runs into number 26. Well, not literally, but she opens the door and comes into the house anyway. Doesn't she knock?
Oh hang on, it's her house.
(I can't believe Rove is a name. Anyway.) Scott tells her that Janelle 'fessed up that Breezer wrote the book. No! Quick shot of the school where the kids are watching with Susan - why are they in school at night with school uniform on??
ROVE: Welcome back. Okay, Bree, let's not hide your light under a bushel. I did that once and got a terrible rash.
In the studio Janelle encourages Bree to tell the truth, and at the school Susan cringes at the screen and Rachel and Zeke call out helpful words that she can't hear. Cut back to number 26 where Lyn thinks that no-one but Rove can get people to open up like that. Okaaaay.
::whispers:: Try counselling, Lyn. You might get rid of your, like, you know, annoying habits.
Rove suggests winding up, but Bree shakes her head - her mother wrote the book, but she touched it up a bit. She apologises to her mother, and Janelle asks Rove what sort of woman she is. He doesn't know - they've only just met after all - and Janelle calls out a cute little love message to the camera for Kim. Apparently she calls him 'monkey,' and I don't wanna know why.
She tells Rove that she's the sort of woman who was prepared to take the credit for the book when actually it was penned by her 'brilliant young daughter.'
BREE: It's all true.
She's terrific! I think Sianoa's such a fabulous actress. Rove tells Bree that he wrote stories, too, when he was younger, and famous authors plagiarised his work. Apparently Dickens stole lots of his stories from him. Zeke laughs at school, as does Bree in the studio. Rove is disparaging about a few more writers and his words are bleeped out. Rove goes onto promote the book, and reminds everyone it was Bree who wrote it. Clapping at school, and clapping from number 26! Rove thanks Janelle for her honesty.
Cut back to the school where Susan manages to get a lecture and point of principle from the show, which is that Bree had determination, and now she's a published author and celebrity. Two mean looking boys at the back make fun of Bree, and MeanBoy1 comments that Bree's a loser.
Hey - don't talk about my little girl like that, you little BLEEP BLEE-EEEEP.
Susan asks MeanBoy1 (apparently called Kiefer, but he's no Sutherland) if he'd like to share the joke, but he doesn't. That's 'cause it's NOT FUNNY. Zeke rushes to Kiefer and starts to beat him. Go Zeke, go Zeke, go Zeke!
Ah, ah, er, um, I mean, no! Stop it, Zeke, stop it! Susan agrees - he really should stop beating this other boy up. Susan pulls them apart and sends the kids home, except Zeke, whom she gives TheLook™. Gosh, haven't seen that one since Karl last annoyed her.
No 32
Steph is talking to Stanno on the phone, and he can't look after Charlie for them whilst Steph and Max go to a Rock 'n' Roll AC-DC thing. Max didn't want to leave Charlie with friends until he was older, anyway, so he's not bothered.
Side note - what does it matter, family or friends? Family aren't necessarily any more capable of looking after babies than friends...you'd rather have Lyn?!
Steph defends Stanno - she knows and trusts him. Boyd, Susan, Lou, Harold - none of them can do it. She also stresses that Max and her need some sanity time. Good for you, girl! Max suggests Lyn...but Steph ain't having it!
STEPH: I'm not the one who started going all wacko!
Max thinks that Lyn's the best babysitter they could have, so Steph says she'll stay at home and Max can sell the tickets, then. Max tries again, but:
STEPH: No! The minute she's alone with Charlie she'll probably pull out one of those home-baptising kits or something!
Ha!
Steph concedes that AC-DC can rock on without them; she won't hand Charlie to Lyn.
Number 26
Janelle toasts Bree, along with Kim, Scott and Lyn, and they eat doughnuts. Scott asks her to come and talk to his uni class, tell them what it was like.
JANELLE: The best bit was when they shone the spotlight on you, my special little girl.
Overdoing it slightly, now, Janelle. Bree tells her parents she got her brains and talent from them, so really they all wrote the book. The phone rings and:
SCOTT: Ooh, that'll be Spielberg with rights to the movie!
LYN: Eh? Spielberg wouldn't watch Rove, would...? Oh, sorry...
Janelle thinks someone will offer Bree her own show, but the publishers are on the phone, and want to talk to her tomorrow about breach of contract.
Uh-oh.
Erinsborough High
Susan is disappointed with Zeke; she doesn't understand why Zeke reacted like that, and he won't tell her why, he's just sick of the things that Kiefer says.
Susan says that he has to understand the consequences, and suspends him for one week.
Cut to later and Zeke is scribbling on the table. There are some nasty words about something to do with Bree - and as Rachel comes in she realises that Zeke's scribbling them out, not writing them. Rach thinks that Bree's lucky to have him as a friend. Zeke says that Bree's only just got a confidence boost - she doesn't need to hear horrible things about herself. Aw, you're the cutest! Well, after Susie-Q and Breezer, anyway.
Outside in the corridor Bree turns up late for school and apologises to Susan. They chat about Rove, and Bree looks terribly pretty with her hair like that. She asks where Zeke is, and Susan tells her about the suspension. Bree asks to go and see him even though he's on detention - she could try and get to the bottom of things.
Susan tells her to make it quick! She's gone so soft as a teacher recently!
Back inside the only classroom, Zeke doesn't think that there's anything wrong in protecting Bree. Just then, Bree comes into the classroom - and she wants to know everything, and why Zeke is acting like he is?
But Zeke deflects it - how was Rove? Well apparently, Bree was in make-up, and Peter Helier said that he hates Rove and wishes he was funny. I'm guessing that's an in-joke for the Aussies, so I don't get it. And yeah, she is taller than Rove.
The Scarlet Bar
Max is showing some people out of the bar - telling them that he will keep his eye out for it. "Trigger" plays in the background. I used to love that song (used in 4420) until I realised what she was really singing about then it kind of put me off. Max approaches Stingray and asks him what he knows about pirated DVDs - because they're being sold to kids here and Scott's the only movie-mad worker that Max has.
Max warns him that he'll lose his job if it happens again. Max wanders off and Scott runs over to Kim who's just walked in - they need to talk.
The General Store
Paul is telling Lyn that he though he had her full commitment to the job, so why is he asking to do things several times over? She tells him that she's had a lot on her plate, and he doesn't want to sack her as well as Dylan.
Steph walks in with Charlie, and Lyn tries to make conversation with her, but she ain't really listening. In the meantime, Paul is staring at Steph's crotch, which seems a bit forward, and cocks his head to the side, looking thoughtful. Given up on Izzy so soon, Paul?
Steph isn't really interested in what Lyn has to say, and Paul tells Lyn to cheer up. He asks after the pouch/belt thing that Steph's wearing. Lyn tells him she invented it, and he looks thoughtful again.
The Scarlet Bar
Kim promises Scott he won't sell on the premises anymore, and Scott suggests he doesn't sell the pirated DVDs at all, as getting caught will mean prison. Kim needs to sell sell sell, though, to cover the wedding costs. Scott comments that he should just stop buying Bree presents, but Kim says he wants to spoil her occasionally.
Kim and Scott walk out as Paul and Steph walk in. Paul is complimenting Steph on her baby belt idea, and you know what? She's ducking her head and going all coy! No no no! I ship you not!
Paul wonders if she has plans to make any more, and the answer's no. Paul leaves it at that, and Max comes up to kiss Steph and say hi. Steph tells him that Lyn is pretending that nothing happened, and it's driving her up the wall! But hey, that's easily forgotten as she needs the bank card to go shopping. Max tells Steph that Lyn's just trying to be a good mum to her, and his wife should give her some slack. Is she paying you, Max?!
Steph leaves, and Scott returns saying that he has no idea what his dad goes on about most of the time. Max tells him that when he's a dad, he'll understand, but Scott has no plans for that for a LONG long time.
Erinsborough High
Bree has told Zeke all about Rove, and now she wants to know about his behaviour, but he ain't talkin' babe. Bree tells Zeke that she will dump him if he starts fights - that's not the sort of boyf she wants. See? I can do teenage talk if required.
Janelle turns up.
JANELLE: Hey, kidlets! Why aren't you outside in the sunshine, having fun?
RACHEL: Well, Zeke's on detention.
JANELLE: (Pause) Your point?
Love her! Bree asks if Janelle's going to prison for fraud, after the publisher thinks there's been a breach of contract. But, no! In fact, with the publicity from Rove, they have a best-seller!
JANELLE: It's all about you, you, you! You are gonna be a star!
Janelle hugs Bree hard, and her daughter grins delightedly over her shoulder. Seriously, Sianoa's looking so pretty in this ep.
Aw, Bree. If only your parents had been like this with you even before they knew you weren't theirs. Kinda puts a dampener on it.
The Scarlet Bar
...Kim's at a table, and Scott runs up to him - you see those people there? They're the undercover cops whom Scott recognises from the stuff he got into with Dylan. Kim scarpers.
Number 22 where Lyn is falling for Paul
Lyn comes in talking about business, but Paul wants to talk about the BabyBelt™. Lyn says that Steph gets her brains and stubbornness from her. Well, one out of two ain't bad.
Paul is willing to invest in such a business - it would be a shame to see such a good idea go to waste. And, you know, everyone involved would get a substantial amount of money. Oh, come on - how does he know that? He's done no market research, no cost comparisons of market value, compared to wholesale prices and production costs, and he's already making an assumption that there's buckets of money involved!
Lyn understands the hint - and she doesn't think that she should try and talk to Steph, particularly in her state of mind. Paul thinks it would be a good way to start talking to her again - it's business, neutral ground. Then Lyn can start working on the personal relationship with her daughter. Plus, Steph would make money, so why not? Lyn falls for it, and agrees to speak to Paul.
LYN: You know what? You are a lot wiser and more sensitive than people give you credit for.
Well, he used to be, at any rate. And my goodness, Lyn really is falling head over heels for Paul, isn't she? She almost gazes at him. Plyn? Lynaul?
Erinsborough High
Susan tells the kids to put their pens down and they leave the class, but Janelle comes in before they're all out - she and Bree have to get to a photo-shoot! They want a new jacket cover with Bree on the front.
BREE: No, I hate photos, I look yuk in 'em.
ZEKE: Hey, you were hot on Rove, and you'll be smokin' for this photo-shoot. You just gotta work it on out, Bree.
BREE: Okay, you know what? I'll make a deal with you. I'll go to this stupid photo-shoot if you come along and you promise to never, ever, talk ghetto.
Janelle wants to leave, but Susan stops them - he's on detention...and Susan's crumbling. The suspension still stands, but he can leave detention! Such a softie! Rachel stays and thanks her for being easy on Zeke. She tells him that Zeke's behaviour is because of Bree - some horrid things are being said of her, and Zeke's trying to stick up for her.
Susan's grateful that Rach told her what's going on, and Rach says that she only told her so that Susie doesn't think he's going off the rails because of a bad home life.
Number 32
Lyn has come over to talk to Steph. She says that the business opportunity is one in a lifetime, but Steph can't believe it - her mum not only works for Paul, but is now doing dodgy business deals with him?! Lyn defends him - this could help other young mums like herself.
But Steph sees through it - this is an opportunity to exploit her and others; her mother might have sold out, but she doesn't want to. Lyn wants the best for Steph, but says she knows she did the wrong thing with Charlie. She still maintains he should be baptised, though, and doesn't like to be painted as the evil mother.
Lyn does tell her daughter, though, that some of the young mums who used to come to the salon would kill for the sort of support she's trying to give her and Max. And she has always put her kids before herself - and Steph can't deny that.
Steph tells her to stop being a martyr. Lyn leaves - she won't hang around to be abused.
Number 26
Kim is apologising to some of his DVD customers, when Janelle and Bree get home. The photo-shoot went well, and Bree shows off some moves to her parents.
ZEKE: But then she found her inner Kate Moss!
JANELLE: Oh, not her, for God's sake.
ZEKE: Her Naomi Campbell?
JANELLE: Slightly better.
The kids go to walk Harvey, and outside the front door, Bree comments that she could lose a few pounds. Zeke tells her she's way better than any skinny model. Bree says that if she could re-print the book, she'd dedicate it to Zeke. Aw.
It's almost cute.
Back inside the house, Janelle tells Kim that Bree was loving the attention at the photo-shoot, and that they need to make a fuss of her. They agree to forget the 'other business' - wherever the OtherBree™ is, she's having a great life.
The Park
Rach creeps up on Scott, and he drops his beer, kicking it under the table so she can't see it. But she's already seen it, and she's worried about him. She thinks he has a problem with alcohol. Because he's having a drink?!
Line of the episode:
LYN: Eh? Spielberg wouldn't watch Rove, would...? Oh, sorry...
Best performance of the episode:
Sianoa - she was just fantastic in this ep, and looking terribly pretty.
Best 'Rock On' moment:
BREE: No, I hate photos, I look yuk in 'em.
ZEKE: Hey, you were hot on Rove, and you'll be smokin' for this photo-shoot. You just gotta work it on out, Bree.
BREE: Okay, you know what? I'll make a deal with you. I'll go to this stupid photo-shoot if you come along and you promise to never, ever, talk ghetto.
The scene that TPTB forgot to include:
The one where Susan tells the kids she wants to have them home again...
