Recap
Boyd on the phone to Steph but Janae getting jealous thinking it was a female from Uni as Boyd runs out on her.
Janelle proposing to Kim.
Max telling Boyd to move aside so he can talk to Steph and Boyd trying to stop him.
Ramsay Street
Max tries again to get into see Steph but Boyd steadfastly refuses telling him to give Steph time. With Janae now observing from a safe distance, Max says that he's given Steph enough time, but enough is enough, then reiterates that Boyd should back off and let him into HIS house to talk to HIS wife. They glare at each other for a moment before Boyd steps aside to let Max through. Boyd spots Janae and she gives him a small wave but chooses to ignore her and follow Max inside.
No. 32
As Max comes to the door, Lyn opens it but keeps the safety chain firmly on and tells him to leave. With Steph playing with Oscar in the livingroom but listening to what is being said, Max says he just wants to talk to Steph. Lyn tells him to respect Steph's wishes - she doesn't want to talk to him.
Poking his head through the door, and with puppy dog eyes, he calls out to Steph that he loves her, but gets no reply. Lyn tells him to give her a minute as she shuts the door.
University
Sky arrives for her first day at Uni accompanied by Dylan. No he hasn't suddenly got a place at Uni - he's there to check out the best place for selling his Dyldogs. Sky is so looking forward to the term starting and meeting like-minded people since Uni is now at her level unlike school. Some random students arrive and Sky tries to make conversation with them but they blank her.
No. 32
Boyd keeps Max company as he waits outside the front door begging Steph to give him a few minutes to explain what he's realised over the past couple of weeks. Steph, Lyn and Oscar listen from the livingroom and Lyn hugs Steph and asks her daughter to give him a few minutes. Steph relents and Lyn goes to let Max in.
Max and Boyd enter and there is a bit of awkwardness so Lyn and Oscar decide to make themselves scare and Boyd says he'll wait out the front as Max starts.
MAX: It was always about your health Steph, that's all that mattered
STEPH: That's not all that matters
MAX: Yeah but to me it followed that if you're well, Charlie's well, then all's well. I was wrong to force you to have the treatment. I know that it was stupid, it was idiotic, but I though that was what you wanted. Look I knew your conscience wouldn't let you take the slightest risk with Charlie, I knew that but I though that subconsciously you wanted that decision taken out of your hands. I know it was just delusional but I was just seeing what I wanted to see. (Going towards her on the couch) Please Steph. Steph you've got the biggest heart of any woman I know, can you not find a little bit of room to let me back in?
She looks at him questioningly as they cut away.
No. 26
Janae comes home telling her parents and Bree of how Boyd brushed her off when she waved to him. Janelle says that Boyd is just following his male instincts and is starting to wonder because she is enforcing the ban of nothing physical. Kim scoffs at Janelle's theory as Janae says that if Boyd loved her then it wouldn't make any difference to their relationship.
JANELLE: Sure in a perfect world we'd all like to think that but you can't fight nature and men have needs.
JANAE: And so do women!
JANELLE: Yes but we are much better at controlling them because...we have bigger brains.
KIM: You wish!
With Janelle safely in the livingroom, Kim puts forward his own theory - Boyd is dealing with family stuff and that she should give him her understanding. Janae seems to live this version judging by the smile on her face.
University
Sky asks a random student who has just signed up to something about where she can find out details for the various groups normally associated with a university (political action groups, societies etc) because she wants to start her own group - a 50s film appreciation group. Random student informs Sky he's signed up to a pub crawl which Sky is less than enthusiastic about. She asks him to point her in the right direction of the SU but random student informs her that she is wasting her time as nobody goes to things like that because there is too much partying to do!
He leaves and Kim comes in to flog some Dyldogs with Dylan in hot pursuit of him because Kim should be selling them outside from the cart not indoors from a cardboard box. Kim ignores what Dylan has just said and goes off sell the Dyldogs as Dylan asks Sky how Uni is going. "Yeah, so far so good," replies Sky but her face would suggest otherwise.
Ramsay Street
Boyd is sitting on the steps outside No. 32 as Janae approaches him. She sits down next to him and without saying a word, they wrap their hands round each other.
No. 32
Max repeats that his priority was always her. Steph replies back that stupidly or not, she still loves him and he says he loves her too. She then goes on to say that the thought of giving birth and having the treatment without him scares her and that she'd prefer not to go down that route but informs him that she doesn't have a choice. Max says that she does.
STEPH: No I don't. You tried to have me locked up.
MAX: Because I thought that was what was best for you, but I've learnt my lesson there now.
STEPH: Have you? I asked you to stay away from me.
MAX: Yeah but I had to come here today so we could talk, to try and make things better.
STEPH: That's assuming that you could do that, that the power's all yours.
MAX: No, Steph...
STEPH: No Max, I asked you to stay away from me, but you didn't care about that, how can our relationship possibly survive if you don't respect me or what I want?
MAX: Steph I just want what's best for you.
STEPH: Yeah, well I've got news for you Max from now I decide what's best for me.
MAX: Fair enough, that's what I want...
STEPH: No, this is just one time too many. Form now on it doesn't matter what you want, we're over.
Max looks shattered as we head into the first commercial break.
No. 26
Janelle calms Lyn down (she's stressing out over Steph and Max separating) by forcing her to sit down on the sofa. She then tries to reassure her that things will be fine and so too will be Steph. Lyn says that the health retreat did Steph the world of good but at the end of the day she agrees with Max - she wants Steph to have the treatment - but given Steph's refusal of that, adds that she is trying to keep things peaceful instead.
As they are chatting Bree announces that she wants to go to school (Janelle is allowing her to skive to write more of her book) but Janelle initially refuses until Lyn sticks up for her. Bree also asks Janelle if she has done her homework! Seems only fair I suppose given Bree is writing her book.
Lyn has a quick peek out the window before saying that she needs to see Gino later to get some more time off work. Janelle reminds Lyn about how much time she's had off lately and that Gino won't like her asking for more time off. Lyn says that "Gino might have to lump it," because this is family and it is "life or death". Janelle then reminds Lyn that she needs her wages from the salon to survive on and wonders about her job with Paul. Lyn says that may have to end, so Janelle asks one thing from her - make sure she tells her when so she can avoid the fallout! Lyn is quite nonchalant about telling him because she's been there 7 years and considers herself to be part of the furniture!
No. 32
Boyd decides to let himself in as its all gone quiet. He finds Max sitting quietly on the sofa and Max tells him sadly that he is about to packs his belongings. He adds that Steph will remain in the house even though she offered to be the one to go and he'll move elsewhere and once Charlie is born they'll sort things out permanently. Boyd cuts Steph off as she tells him that she wants No. 32 to be his home to tell them both that he won't let them break up. Max tries to say it has been decided.
BOYD: The only issue here is whether or not you two still love each other.
MAX: That's beside the point mate.
BOYD: That is the point. Everybody says that you two are made for each other, so what is so hard to work through? What is it that you can't find your way through? Look (turns to Steph) Dad is freaked out because he's scared (turning back to Max) and Steph is feeling railroaded because you doesn't trust her but you love each other. Work it out for god sakes!
He leaves to head to Uni as Max and Steph share a lingering look, because they both know it's the truth... then Max says he'll pack his bags.
Ramsay Street
Boyd exits the house and spots Janae waiting for him. She asks how it went - they are both too stubborn to listen replies Boyd. Janelle approaches them to see if they've seen Bree who has absconded to school (they haven't) before she asks why isn't Janae in school. Janae is miffed that her mum thinks it is okay for Bree to skive school but not her. This starts Janelle off on how Janae is going to survive in the real world since she isn't using her female assets to get by. Boyd tries to stay out of the argument but does tell Janae that she needs to get to school as it is a hard year which doesn't go down too well with her.
No. 26
Lyn returns home and spots Steph on the sofa with Oscar. She asks how it went and Steph tells her that Max is packing his things and asks if she can stay until he has finished. Lyn hugs Steph and agrees to Steph's request. Steph heads for a rest with Oscar and Lyn heads into the kitchen. Janelle assures her things will work out fine before asking if Lyn saw Gino. "Oh yes" replies Lyn before telling Janelle that she's been replaced at the salon! Janelle offers to go out on strike with Lyn but she says no because she needs Janelle's rent money. Lyn wonders who will give her a job now since she isn't exactly flush with skills outside of hairdressing and Janelle promises to stand by her as we head into the next commercial break.
University (outside)
Kim is trying to flog Dyldogs and Dylan objects to the offer Kim is trying to run (become a member of their club and get one free Dyldogs per week if you buy one every day). Kim reminds Dylan they need to generate business to make money. Random students laugh and joke as Sky makes her way to where the cart is. When she gets there, she moans to Dylan about the students in their tribal groups so Dylan tells her to go and join them. She flatly refuses because she isn't out to impress anyone.
Dylan goes to feed the meter and Kim takes the opportunity to ask Sky if the behaviour Dylan is showing is typical of when he works. Sky then tells Kim what Dylan gave up to give him a job and Kim looks either shocked and or impressed.
University (inside)
Boyd spots a relived Sky (she's found someone she knows) and they hug each other. He's surprised she hasn't made loads of friends yet as he enquires if she's signed up to the pub crawl yet because that is a good way to meet new people. The idea of going on a pub crawl isn't top of Sky's 'to do' list and thinks there must be a better way to meet people. Boyd doesn't think so and asks her for directions to where he is meant to be.
As Boyd heads off a random girl tells him she'll see him in bio-chem and Boyd replies that he wouldn't miss it for the world. They begin to chat about their studies and guess who is ear-wigging on their conversation - yes you've guessed it Janae (she's hiding behind a corner). Once they've finished talking, Janae reveals herself and gives the random girl some advice - back off because he's taken and if necessary can provide the muscles of her two big brothers to back her up. Janae's parting gift to the now shocked random girl is for her to spread that news around the campus. Charming!
No. 26
Lyn is trying to talk Steph out of the separation but Steph reiterates that the baby is her number one priority and that Max trampled all over her. Lyn says that Max took a gamble because he wanted to save them both. Steph replies that he had no right to gamble with their baby's life, and proves that the baby always came second to him. Lyn pulls the maternal-instinct-is-stronger card, and Steph cuts her off,
STEPH: Mum please, I'm trying to be strong.
LYN: But you don't want to? You want to work things out with him? Is that it?
STEPH: Well if he can't respect me as his wife and an equal then I'm better off going it alone.
LYN: Whoa, are you sure about that? Don't you need to give yourself just a little bit of time?
STEPH: (shaking her head) I have to do this now, before I change my mind.
They're both teary and they hug.
The General Store
Boyd and Janae come into TGS and he comments to her that he is puzzled by the girls now suddenly avoiding him in the corridor, especially the random girl who Janae warned off. Janae tells him to snub them back and she can come home to her every night because she won't snub him and besides he's only got to put up with them for a couple of years. "More like six," replies Boyd which completely freaks Janae out.
Sky comes over to take their orders as Kim and Dylan walk in and call the pair of them traitors for eating at TGS instead of having a Dyldog. Janae says that is because she's fed up of eating them and as Kim and Dylan go to get their drinks out of the fridge, Dylan tells his dad that the whole brood will back him every time. Kim then tells Dylan he knows about knocking back Paul's job offer to help him out and adds that the two of them are going to make one hell of a team working together as we head into the final commercial break.
No. 26
Steph's sitting at number 26 as 'Arithmetic by Brooke Fraser' and it's very poignant lyrics start and goes to the window, looking forlorn as she watches Max pack his things into the car. Max stops, looks up and sees her, giving her a longing look before giving up and walking inside.
No. 32
The song continues as he pulls a Pink Floyd CD out and throws it in a box, when there's a thud...It's the front door and there's Steph standing in the hall.
MAX: I was just going.
She shakes her head, about to cry.
STEPH: I can't live without you. I just can't.
They kiss and hug both smiling teary like.
