Bree is going to divorce her parents
Janae is scared that when her relationships get tough she has to turn to the physical side of things to save them.
Karl tells Susan that they will get Zeke through his grief together.
Janelle leaves Kim to raise the kids
Kim is telling Janelle how to drive the combi, which really annoys her. Our attention is slightly diverted by the excellent episode title – I hope they never run out of clever puns. Kim jumps into the combi and tells her to get out as she's so rubbish at driving the van despite his excellent instruction. She ends up falling out and onto the ground. Kim tells her that she's never understood the van – or him – because she never bloody listens! He drives off, showing everyone just how easy it is to drive the combi.
Janelle thinks they're better off without Kim. Bree arrives and Janae tells her the news. Bree doesn't care as she's divorced him. Janae thinks divorcing your parents is a fab idea. Janelle eavesdrops as Janae says that they should look out for themselves from now on. Kim and Janelle are too immature to make up, and don't give a rat's about the kids.
The only doctor in Erinsborough, Karl Kennedy, is checking Rose Belker's injured wrist. The nurse arrives and it's Katya Kinski – what a small world. Karl grumbles about her late timing but she wishes he would pay her some professional courtesy. They continue to give each other nasty looks as they tend to Rose, who seems to like Katya much more than Karl (no doubt to his chagrin).
Dylan and Sky talk about Kim leaving while Dylan pushes his hot dog cart around. Dylan spots his dad sitting in the combi: Kim is thoughtfully looking into nothing, tears in his eyes. He tells his son that he wanted to stay this time – for real - but he's fed up with Janelle's behaviour towards him. Dylan argues that all she wants is for him to have a job and hold it down – not very much to ask. Kim's tried but he doesn't know what to do now. Dylan suggests he cut out the blubbering and try again. He can give them a hand or sit and sulk like a little girl.
Janelle is telling Susan all about Kim's behaviour and Susan wonders why Janelle's telling her. Probably 1) it's not her day off like it is Lynnie's and 2) ‘Susie Q is good at dealing with blokes'. Susie's flattered. Janelle wants to know how she forgave the blokes that wronged her: Karl, Alex, that bloke who was a priest… Rachel appears and she and Susan have that often repeated teenage/parent quarrel about teens going out without saying where they're going. Zeke takes over counselling Janelle, using one flash card, and makes her realise that she loves Kim – Zeke's the next Dr Phil! Janelle leaves and Susan tries to smooth the waters with Rachel by suggesting veggies for dinner but all she gets is an stroppy and unenthusiastic ‘fine'. Teenagers – honestly!
Karl finds out that Katya's transferred to be closer to Rachel and Zeke. Katya's surprised to hear that Susan and the kids are back from their trip. Susan tried to contact her but they didn't have her number. Karl's excuses don't do much to console Katya, who would've worked a different shift had she known. She walks off in a huff as if it's all Karl's fault. He tries to argue Susan's corner but Katya reminds him that the kids have a big sister and she's going to be there for them.
Janelle finds that Kim is helping out on the hotdog stand and being very enthusiastic about it (it's just a hotdog, for heaven's sake!) It makes her smile though. Sky shares a smile with Dyl. Janelle materialises to talk to Kim just as their customers magically walk away – that's timing for ya! She tells him that the one thing wrong with them all these years was that they never had a full-on romantic wedding and she reckons it's time they did something about it. She gets an onion ring and gets down on one knee.
JANELLE: Kimbo Timmins, would you marry me…again?
Kim still hasn't made up his mind – he's thinking. But then he says yes and Janelle slides the onion ring onto his ring finger (lucky that Kim has on gloves on – otherwise it would be lovely onion scented hands for a week). Dylan urges caution as they ‘can't stand each other' but Janelle and Kim are all gooey and think they can do it this time, despite Dyl's misgivings.
Boyd isn't happy about the ban – it makes him want to do loadsa housework (good for the occupants of number 32, whoever's living there these days…). Janae wants to make plans about them living together and Bree would have to come too as she's not leaving her with ‘those two psychos' I.e. Janelle ‘n' Kim. Janelle bursts in and announces the happy news, although Bree guesses that it's Bradgelina who are getting married before her mother corrects her (ugh – I'm still so not over Brad and Jen.) The girls both have the same OMG reaction but Bree is happy while Janae is horrified.
The Smith-Kinski clan are sitting in silence until Susan mentions the atmosphere. Cue Suse vs. Rachel: the rematch. Rachel thinks Susan's being all uptight like her dad. Susan's not the enemy – with freedom comes responsibility. Katya appears and the kids are delighted to see her. Katya isn't happy when she finds Zeke isn't talking.
Janelle and Bree indulge in wedding talk. Kim and Dylan return with some bubbly. Scotty isn't present as he's
having a day off working on his film. Janae isn't impressed with the celebrations and storms off. Dylan follows and points out that as long as their parents are happy, as they are now, they'll stick together. He urges her to give it a chance.
Katya talks to Zeke and Rachel about their trip and Zeke still isn't talking. Alone, Susan tells Katya that the kids were a bit panicked when they couldn't reach her. Katya wants to know about Zeke and isn't happy with Susan's proposal for him to have counselling sessions with Karl. Katya says that she's their sister and, while Susan welcomes her input, she still thinks that she makes the decisions. But Katya wants a say in their lives – a big say.
Oh it's Valentine's Day (not like you wouldn't know) and Dylan and Boyd are being slaves to commercialism by giving pressies to their special someones. Bree gets some flowers from Zeke, but it doesn't mean that they're back on together. Kim's going for a surf and pretends to have forgotten about the significance of this day. But then he jumps on the Hallmark bandwagon: he's arranged to go surfing with Janelle and has a nice board with a red rose decal on it especially for her. How romantic.
Janae thinks her parents' lovey-doveyness is ten times worse than gross – she gives it a week.
Number 24 – By the Swimming Pool
Sky's put in a notice in the paper for Dyl: she loves him that much - ‘A Valentine's notice in the paper: I would only be this daggy for a very special guy. I love you, Dyl'. Dylan's well chuffed. They run off to check out the Spirograph set that Dyl got for Sky (‘It's just so seventies), leaving Boyd and Janae alone.
Boyd kisses her, deciding that he wants a half-time break in the ban as it's Valentine's Day. However it doesn't work that way. Janae doesn't know how long it will last but hopes they're still alright. Boyd thinks they are then hurriedly jumps into the pool.
Katya and Karl have another run-in: this time Karl's having a coffee when he was meant to be at an obstetrics meeting. He argues the meeting times are fluid as doctors are sometimes doing other important things
like drinking coffee. Katya points out the double standards with him getting at her for being late yesterday. She tells him to practice what he preaches, taking him down a notch. Karl's a bit annoyed looking.
Bree mistakes Kim's attempt to unzip Janelle out of her wetsuit for amorous murmurings. But nothing will work – they'll have to cut her out, using some shears.
Sky and Susan are hanging out and Dyl's making some conversation with Zeke – the hand movements are working well. Sky and Susan laugh about the Valentine's Notices in the paper. Then Susan goes all serious and Rachel finds that there's a notice from Alex, telling Susan to ‘ask Lizzie'. Susan retrieves a book from her bookshelf, knowing that ‘Lizzie' refers to Lizzie Bennett. She finds up folded up letter:
And so it goes that death has parted us. I suppose then, that I have discharged the vow I made on our wedding day, to love you until death do us part.
How I ever thought that the love we share could be so short-lived, I don't know.
So if it's alright with you, I will break my vow and love you forever!
She tearfully tells the kids that Alex was a wonderful, wonderful man.
Janelle seems to have had an accident of some sort, which Kim is currently explaining all about to Katya. The shears they were using to free Janelle are now stuck ‘somewhere she doesn't want to know'. And Janelle's now got a busted bum to boot, thanks to her little accident with the combi yesterday. Katya sends them to emergency.
Who should appear but Katya's arch-nemisis, Dr Karl with the pastel striped shirt. He says they got off on the wrong foot – it would be better for Rachel and Zeke if they got along. She tells him that he won't be counselling Zeke: she isn't comfortable with his reputation. She doesn't want him to use her little brother to get back with his ex-wife.
KARL: That is ridiculous!
KATYA: And, as for some ongoing connection, don't even begin to imagine that you're going to be some father figure in their lives. My father had his faults but he was still ten times the man you are. So, as far as I'm concerned, you'll have absolutely nothing to do with my brother and sister.
Karl stares at her until the dramatic music comes to an end.
