Recap
- Pilot telling Air Traffic Control he can't make it to Stanley, as he doesn't have enough fuel then Paul saying the fuel has run out.
- Stu telling Janelle, Stinger and Bree that the plane has gone down in the Bass Strait with everyone onboard.
- Connor telling Serena they need to get out of the plane and to do so they need to remove their lifejackets.
Bass Strait
Connor and Serena make it out of the plane and they cling to each other both extremely cold. Serena asks if he's seen her parents and he tells says yes, that they are alive and well and that they're coming to pick them up in a rescue boat.
Scarlet Bar
Karl comes in to moan at Max about the message Izzy left and Max tells him about the plane going down (the emergency services have just called him). Karl's first thoughts are for Susan.
Bass Strait
Connor and Serena are still clinging together for dear life but Serena is getting weaker and Connor tells her jokes to keep her alert.
The General Store
Harold is setting like he is in shock and Lou tries to make positive comments about the situation but Harold goes into defence mode - by going to washing the dishes even though Lou thinks he shouldn't. In the end he gives up protesting and gets a towel to dry them.
No. 26
Janelle and Bree arrive home but it appears that Stinger has been put into remand and she seems more annoyed about that than Dylan. Just as Janelle switches on the lights, we see Joe who has obviously been sitting in the dark. Janelle eventually starts to break down but Joe tries to offer her some reassuring words just as a happy and joking Lyn, Zeke and Rachel come in.
They eventually notice the sombre mood and Joe tries to have a work with Lyn in the kitchen and tells Bree to take Rachel and Zeke into the bedrooms but she blurts out that there has been an accident. Janelle quickly heads off very upset in the direction of the bedrooms and Bree lies by saying B5 has peed all over Lyn's cushions. Zeke isn't happy with the answer given how upset Janelle was, so she tells them Joe had a go at Janelle and also about Stinger being taken away for armed robbery but quickly adding that he is innocent.
Joe and Lyn come back from the kitchen and Zeke tells Joe off for having a go at Janelle. Lyn diffuses the situation by saying they should all go to bed (and Bree too once she and Joe have had a chat) although Rachel isn't exactly chuffed at being sent to bed early.
Bass Strait
Connor and Serena have found something to hold onto but Serena is getting very weak. She asks him to tell her parents that she loves them and is sorry. Connor tells her that she can tell them herself when she sees them before telling her that he loves her.
No. 26
Lyn tells Bree that they'll tell Rachel and Zeke the truth in the morning so not to worry them unnecessary since they are bound to be found during the night. She tells Bree that she and Joe are going to go and see Harold and Bree asks if she can come too because she wouldn't be able to sleep. Lyn agrees as long as she checks with her mum. Bree adds that she'll ask if Janelle wants to come too.
Bass Strait
Dylan struggles in the water.
No. 24
Lyn, Joe, Janelle, Bree, Lou, Max and Karl gather to wait for news each buried with their own thoughts. This scene was done with no dialogue.
Bass Strait
Connor hangs on but realises there is no sign of Serena and starts shouting her name getting extremely worried because he can't see her.
Time for a tissue break
No. 24
The gathered wait for information. Lyn is now wondering if she should have told Zeke and Rachel the truth given that they've probably sussed that something is up but Joe thinks they've done the right thing.
Lou is on the phone to the authorities and hangs up to tell them that a full rescue operation is ongoing in the area they think the plane has come down in. Joe thinks it is good news but Janelle says they can't wait until daybreak, as the water temperature is extremely low and they won't survive until then especially given the clothes they were wearing. She then announces that they are all dead and Harold quickly shouts to tell her to "shut up" before calming down again. Janelle tells them about her vision of Dylan and that he'd come to say goodbye and she knows that she won't see him again.
Island (early next morning)
A very cold Connor has made it to shore alone.
No. 24
Lyn is reassuring Joe that Sky will be alright when the news comes on and everyone heads through to the living room to listen to it.
The report says that a rescue operation is ongoing but poor weather is hampering it and the fact that the wreckage is spread over a wide area. There is good news though - Paul has been picked up and is on route to hospital with minimum injuries given the conditions. The report goes onto say that they aren't sure what caused the accident but they are treating it as suspicious and this surprises them all.
Janelle jumps to the conclusion that it was a bomb and that terrorists were involved but Max thinks that suggestion is ridiculous. Karl backs him up and Harold tells them to stop speculating and to keep hoping and praying and Harold asks if they'd like to join him in a prayer. Nobody responds but he goes ahead anyway.
HAROLD: Dear Lord. We pray for the lives of our families and our friends. Please, we know you'll look over them; you'll protect them and send them back to us safely. Amen.
Island
Connor goes exploring the island he's been washed up onto and spots someone lying half in and half out the water - it's Dylan! He rushes to him and drags him properly out of the water and Dylan comes to with a bit of a cough and splutter asking Connor if he's seen Sky. Connor replies no and asks if he's seen anyone else and Dylan shakes his head. Connor tearfully tells him that he had Serena in his hands before they hug each other for comfort both deeply upset.
No. 24
The gathered listen to another report and there is more good news too - Elle and the now 28 year old Izzy have been rescued. Max breathes a big sigh of relief and the rest seem happy for him but an upset Karl wants Harold's options on why God chose to save Izzy and not Susan. Karl goes on and in his upset demeanour says that Susan is worth a thousand Izzy's, which Max reacts to by trying to punch him and Lou and Harold have to separate them. Harold then has a go at Karl for what he said (that one persons life was worth more than another) and to get praying even if you don't believe it for those still struggling for their lives.
Time for another tissue break
No. 26
Bree arrives home and Rachel wants to know why everyone else was at Harold's last night before announcing she's going to phone her dad's mobile. Bree tells her not to, "why not" says Zeke, and she replies that he is not there. A knock at the door interrupts the conversation and Bree answers the door to find Karl. He rushes in and tells the kids that Alex has survived. "Survived what" says Zeke and so Bree and Karl fill in the details about Alex but adds that Susan is still missing. They wonder how their dad will cope without Susan.
No. 24
The gathered are watching a television news report of the crash now, each still buried in their own thoughts.
Island
Connor forces Dylan to stand up and walk to keep warm. As they walk, Dylan tells Connor that he might not end up in jail but Connor couldn't care less because he's stuffed up with Toadie. He adds that Serena forgave him but isn't sure why and Dylan replies that she wouldn't lie to him because Serena loves him but Connor isn't so sure. Connor hears a noise and takes off in the direction of it but Dylan runs after him and physically stops him.
No. 24
Lou wishes he was on the plane and hadn't given Serena his ticket until Harold points out that he'd then be awaiting rescue. Another news report comes on with news of 4 more survivors - two that I presume are the pilot and co-pilot although they are both in a bad way. We don't hear who the fourth is because the third name is Sky's and there is great relief to hear she has been found with minor injuries. Harold thinks that Dylan must be all right too but Janelle is still sitting very quietly and Lyn tells her that perhaps her vision was Dylan telling her that he was all right and not saying goodbye.
Island
Connor wants to know why Dylan hauled him back and he replies that he can't go back and tells Connor to run to the end to get seen. Connor takes off but Dylan tells him that he never saw him and his family will get over him when Connor asks what about his family. Dylan then asks Connor what he has and Connor says Maddie, so Dylan tells him to go. Connor starts to go but turns round to tell Dylan that he is worth more to Maddie dead than alive because of life insurance (aren't we all!). Dylan tells Connor that if they don't appear she'll be taken care of and that is also worth more than him serving a jail sentence too. He also adds that his life is worth nothing without spending it with Sky and what he has in store for him back in Erinsborough.
