Scummins'
Stinger tries to convince Dylan to drive to Colac pronto, but his brother doesn't see the big deal, as Janae is okay. Besides, he, ain't going near the grandparents! Bree also reminds the boys of Karl's hearing but as far as Dylan is concerned, he is guilty and deserves all he gets. Stinger isn't so convinced...something did happen, but nothing that dodgy. Karl just wouldn't do it! Dylan asks whether or not he believes his own sister...? Well, that is why they need Janae back ASAP, so she can clear it all up. Dylan relents and gets Bree to cover for them.
They go, and Bree turns to Rachel and Zeke. Right, it's time to get down to the important business...decide what they will do with the cheque!
Susan's
Suse and Karl have a relaxing cup of tea...but not. He is very anxious about the education board meeting later on but Susan tries to calm him down by stating they will give him a fair hearing. She believes his innocence, which is some comfort to him. He knows that the system is there to protect children and not trap innocent people and as a parent and counsellor he supports this. Just probably not while he's caught up in one himself. Suse reminds Karl he is a good person.
The General Store
Joe nonchalantly comes into the store, with Bouncer on his leash.
SKY: What are you doing bringing that dog in here?
JOE: Dog? What dog?
SKY: I was talking to Bouncer.
Cheek. But she is pleased to see him because she has a present for Bouncer. She comes back with a neat little doggie coat with a skull sewn across it. It's from Watler Mouse, FYI. Aww, he looks so pretty and Sky jokes if he can't run he may as well look good. ! Don't insult Bouncer. He's a great race dog. "Yeah he can run like I can kick a football." And it turns out she can. Sky was kicking footies way back before she became here and became 'all political'. Anyway, Joe has figured out Bouncer's problem: it is mental, not physical. He has been doing his dog research into canine hypnotism and will brainwash him into being a winner.
Colac
Janae takes a deep breath before entering her grandparent's house. She asks Nancy, the housekeeper, where her dad is. (okay, more like demands) Nancy is just pleased to see Janae, as it has been years and swears she has no idea. And her grandparents are away on a cruise. She feigns any knowledge of the Timmins' family gossip...but finally gives in. Nancy tells Janae her dad stayed here for a few weeks last year, but now, has not heard anything. Why does she want to see him? Is there a problem?
JANAE: I just want to know why he stopped loving me.
They go have a chat.
Scummins'
Janelle is understandably stoked to hear Janae is alive and well, and gets ready to chase after her. If only she had her keys...Bree has other ideas and calmly states the boys have it under control and there is no point in going too. Rachel and Zeke look on in concern. Janelle continues to hunt for her keys before realising Bree has hidden them. Yes, yes she has. It was only for her and Janae's own good. Janelle won't have a good scream and Janae will come back. Janelle is miffed she'd do that...she just wants to make sure her baby is okay! Besides, her grandparents will probably start brainwashing her. She starts going off at possible punishment consequences (being grounded for a year) but Bree will not budge. Fuming, Janelle storms off but not before swearing she'll come up with a good punishment. Bree turns to her audience and excitedly begins talking about the cheque once more.
Ramsay Street
Janelle puts the finishing touches her shaving-cream masterpiece: a few choice words all over Karl's car. Speaking of whom, Suse and Karl arrive just in time to catch her red handed. Not that she'd deny ever doing it, it's the truth. Susan is more upset about this, than Karl and expresses her anger towards Janelle. She believes in the principle of innocent until proven guilty. Janelle haughtily replies the truth will come out, when Janae gets back. Yes, she is alive and well. Karl wants to know if she has called the police, and Janelle takes this the wrong way. It is always about him and his own neck. She will call the cops when Janae is home safe.
Colac
Nancy first and foremost tells Janae that their dad loves them all. Very much but for as he left...she isn't sure she should be telling her this. Janae pleads she has only heard her mother's side and thinks she needs to hear the whole truth. Okay, well it turns out that her grandparents are financially very well off...but they refused to support Kim financially if he married Janelle. They believed she was after his money and didn't think they were well suited. And Nancy believes they were right as from what she heard, Janelle made their marriage a hell. Janae has a hard time believing this, as it was always her dad throwing away the money on the pokies but that's all Nancy knows. It seemed like Janelle was punishing Kim for losing the money. So he just disappeared? No. He would never leave unless he was forced out...by Janelle.
Dylan and Stinger appear at the front of the house and each play the 'I'm not doing it' card. Luckily they don't have to because Janae appears at the steps. She excitedly says their dad will be at a surfing carnival and they need to go there now! They can't, they need to take her home so she can fix the mess Karl is in. Dylan asks if she was telling the truth and Janae looks down before shaking her head. That is it, they need to go back home NOW. But their dad...? If they don't go, it will be too late. Well, Janae, it will also be too late if they don't save Karl.
The General Store
You are getting sleepy. Yes, very sleepy. Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy. Joe ah, hypnotises Bouncer with his mobile phone. (he lost his watch, but his mobile has a clock so it is the same thing!) Sky watches with much amusement at his technique (did he get it from a Wheetbix box?) as Joe continues his hypnotism session to make Bouncer a fast dog. He snaps his fingers and watches...Sky begins to run around the table - she can't help that her dad's power is too strong! She crashes into Karl who barely registers this and moves on. Joe and Sky sympathise, joking he should also be hypnotised.
Scummins'
Bree can't see what is so wrong with taking the blank cheque as they found it, but Zeke has a problem with it because it is STEALING! He continues: what if it is traced back to their bank account? Bree sighs, when someone knocks on the door. Janelle hurries to the door but it is only Susan. Susan explains if Janae comes back and says Karl is guilty, she will have her full support. If she doesn't return...well than how can they punish Karl for something? Janelle calls out to Bree they need Janae here so hand the keys over! Susan also adds this is important but Bree says the boys will take care of it.
Ramsay Street
Susan drives off while Joe and Sky walk back. They have been walking Bouncer, although Joe is fairly out of breath. He can't coach a dog to run if he isn't fit? Small details. Audrey cutely runs off down the street and this spark's B5's interest. He zooms after little Audrey and they both run after the dogs.
Dylan's car zooms into the driveway and Janelle runs out. She hugs Janae, as she was worried but Janae kind of brushes her mother's worries off.
Scummins'
Janae is aghast as Janelle lists all the things she has been doing to slag Karl off. She takes this as Janae being upset and soothes her, stating she won't have to face him. She can simply write down a statement and Janelle will read it. She goes to get the paper and the boys rush over. Janae couldn't tell her the truth because everyone will hate her! They don't care and she needs to tell the truth. Mum...
Erinsborough High
It is the board meeting with 3 panel members and the main guy asks Karl about the time he and Janae went to the theatre. He explains they were there, at the same time and it was not premeditated...at least not by him. The board asks about the 'inappropriate physical contact' and Karl explains his side again; that sometimes Janae needed to hug him and he did not refuse because she needed the validation.
Ah, but did the good doctor sometimes take this too far? He reads an excerpt from her diary:
"It feels so right with Karl. I love the time we spend together and I know he feels the same. He makes me feel like a woman."
Karl explains she is a teenage girl who admired him and thought of him like a father, perhaps she had a crush? He didn't eliminate the counselling sessions as he didn't want to be seen as abandoning her. She got quite distressed when he did mention it. Unfortunately for Karl, the board doesn't see his good intentions this way. The board has no choice but to terminate his employment, and ban him from working at any other school. Ever. Before we can all throw things at the tv screen, Janelle and Janae arrive at school.
Erinsborough High
Janae tearfully explains she would sometimes write in her diary, what she wanted to be true. She respected and trusted Karl a lot, he was like a father. And no, he never took advantage of her. The reason she told her mum he did is because she was angry. He was going to refer her to someone else, he didn't want to see her anymore. She apologises, not wanting for things to get this bad but she is thankful for his help. Karl knows this and simply nods, saying it's okay.
ATM (the only ATM in Erinsborough which is across from Bounce)
Bree slides the cheque into the machine and announces here is to easy money! Zeke grabs it and corrects her, it is not easy but quite physiologically difficult. Bree sighs, as they have been over this and inserts the cheque. She hands it over to Rachel to withdraw some money but she can't. It'll take at least 5 business days before the money can be processed. Bree hopes they're not lying to her (trick her into a false sense of security see).
Susan's
Susan answers and Janelle explains she washed the rest of the shaving cream away...then whispers if Karl is here. She walks in and apologises as she could see what she did could be taken the wrong way. No hard feelings...? Karl doesn't take this too well...to put it lightly. Janelle's campaign is nothing short of viscous. Sure, if something similar happened he would be angry, but he would not do that. She ruined him.
Janelle was looking out for her kids...no, Karl corrects, she was looking after herself. Susan tried to cut in, but Karl believes Janelle needs to hear this. He became close to Janae because of her poor parenting skills. He and Susan have at one time, or another nurtured her kids. In return, all they have received is jealously and contempt from her.
Janae has serious father issues which must be resolved and it is not about blaming anyone! It is about taking responsibility and it is Janae's job. Janelle is flabbergasted and angrily replies she takes care of her kids. No, it's not about material items, she needs to show Janae she loves her. That she is proud and is worth something! Janelle maintains she is her daughter and knows what is best. He knows nothing and she storms out.
Scummins'
Janelle berates Janae for causing such embarrassment to her. For all the lies she told, Janelle has demolished Karl and made a fool of herself in the process. Janae snaps she learnt from the best and what about all the pain she has caused them?! Without her, they might still have a father. Janelle wises up that she got all of this from the grandparents but Janae corrects her in saying she spoke to Nancy, the housekeeper. Same difference, they're all the same lies. Yes, there are lies...but the only liar is you dear mother. Janae asks why their dad left but Janelle won't say because it is apparently between them. If so, why does she always slag him off? It doesn't matter anyway because she will find her dad. And there is nothing Janelle can do.
