Recap
Jack telling Steph he's going to try to turn his life around.
Svetlanka's offer of $100,000.
Bishop House
Lil, David and Serena discuss the offer in the kitchen. Lil wants to know why David didn't answer to the offer. David says it's because they are in so much debt right now. Serena says Svetlanka is only trying to help them. Lil can't believe they're both siding against her and says that they can take money from Svetlanka over her dead body. In the lounge room, Harold offers to walk Svetlanka back to the hotel while the others talk it through. The rest of the family continues to argue about the money. No one is changing sides. Lil believes she is only trying to buy her way back into the family, and she won't have that. Serena says that Svetlanka is lonely, and Lil says it's her own fault. Serena tells her she saw some pamphlets on retirement homes, and she doesn't want her grandmother to live in one. Lil tells David she thought he would have had too much pride to accept the money. David says he doesn't have much pride left. He's sick of working for peanuts, sick of feeling like a loser because he still lives in his father's house. Lil asks if taking a bribe from his mother-in-law will make him feel like a winner, and storms off.
Pub
At the conclusion of a mature age students meeting, Karl and Susan have a little chat. Susan mentions Karl having to leave class early one day because Izzy had a spider in the house. Karl argues that it was a big spider, and that he's not at her beck and call. Suddenly his mobile rings, and it's Izzy. She wants chocolate, so he tells her he'll pick some up on his way home from the meeting. Susan comments to Karl afterwards that he missed a few little words when he described the student meeting he was at, and corrects him: "It's a mature age student meeting with your wife, but I suppose Isabelle doesn't have to worry about those little details, does she?"
Bishop housev David and Serena are sitting on the lounge. Lil comes in and asks to talk to David alone. Serena protests and says she's part of the family too, but Lil tells her it's something the two of them have to work out themselves. Lil asks David why he didn't tell her it was getting too much. David didn't want to admit failure again. He and Lil have both been working their butts off for months and it has barely made a difference. Lil suddenly changes her tune, and tells him that Svetlanka has come in with her poison apple, knowing it's the one thing that will drive them apart. David argues that it could be the one thing that frees them. Lil says she never thought he would side with her against her mother. Lil says she doesn't know if she can respect him if he chooses money over his family.
Coffee Shop
Harold and Svetlanka talk about her meeting with her family. Svetlanka says it wasn't what she expected. Harold tells her she should have known it wouldn't have been easy. Svetlanka wonders if she'll end up dying knowing Lil hates her. Harold tells her she doesn't hate her, and she was only taken by surprise tonight. Svetlanka says she saw hatred in her eyes and it broke her heart. After six months of separation, she still wants nothing to do with her. Harold tells her that he and David were like that for years. Svetlanka says it was Harold who gave her the courage to try and mend things with her family. Harold tells her it took a lot of listening, understanding and forgiveness. Svetlanka asks Harold to help her make Lil see that she is only trying to make life easier for them, and she wants nothing in return. Harold says he'll do what he can, but that doesn't mean he condones what she did in the past. Everyone deserves a second chance. Svetlanka tells him he is a wise good man.
Pub
Karl tells Susan he didn't appreciate her comments. Susan says he should learn to take a joke. Karl tells her he doesn't joke about her and Tom, or any part of her personal life. He says that he has a right to move on without her ridicule. And she has no right to make disparaging remarks about Izzy. Susan says Izzy can take care of herself. Karl informs her that she is extremely distressed at the moment, thanks to Darcy. Susan tells him not to drag him into it. Karl argues that he has traumatised his fiancé. Susan tells him it's interesting that he can have a fiancé, considering he still has a wife. Not for much longer, Karl says. The divorce will be a relief.
Pub (the next day)
Max and Summer arrive at the pub. Lou give summer a package that Caleb has sent with Roger's hotel promotion stuff. She starts to open it. Max jokes that it's another attempt to buy her affections. In the office, Lou and Max talk about Summer. Max says that he doesn't like the hold he has over her. Lou suggests that Max is just finding it hard to accept that his daughter is growing up. Max says she'll ask him to put a padlock on her bedroom door soon enough. They walk back out into the pub. Summer is admiring the present Caleb sent her: a glass mobile thing. She tells Max that he also sent her a letter, but she'll read it when she has some privacy. Lou tells her perhaps she should consider putting a padlock on her bedroom door. Summer says it's a great idea.
Bishop house
Lil offers Serena a lift to school. Serena tells her she'd rather take the bus. David tells Lil they need to make a decision about the money before Svetlanka comes back. Lil tells him she's her mother so it's her decision. Harold tells her everyone else is entitled to their own opinion. He tells her Svetlanka admits she made a mistake, she feels terrible, and she wants to help her family out financially. He doesn't see that it's a terrible thing. Lil laughs and says it's just as well she didn't waste any time getting to Harold. Harold tells her that being cut off from her family made her realise that if she doesn't change she'll be a very lonely woman.
Hoyland House
Steph and Jack have just come back from their little trip. Steph tells Jack that Max has taken Summer to school. Jack jokes that he should use the time to escape. Steph reminds him of his decision to not run away from things, and to stay positive. Steph tells him he just needs to think about what he wants and stick to it. It makes it easier if he writes a list of goals. Jack asks Steph what would be at the top of her list. Steph tells him she wants a baby.
Lassiter's hotel
Svetlanka is in the hotel lobby, talking to someone on her phone. Serena, walking past, hears some of the conversation: "Luka, that's terrible. Arguments in the family are such a sad thing. Believe me, I know... I'll talk to them when I come back, but you know, they only want what's best for you. Just as I do..." When she hangs up, Serena asks who she was talking to. Svetlanka tells her it was the son of a friend of her's. He was asking for advice. Serena wonders why he would call her. She hugs her grandmother, and Svetlanka says it's good that someone loves her in spite of everything.
Hoyland house
Jack tells Steph that she's bound to get pregnant soon enough. He asks if they have had any tests to make sure it's possible. Steph tells him that Max believes conception is something that should happen naturally. Jack says that Max shouldn't worry; he's already got two kids. "Which means it's probably me," says Steph. Jack tells her it might not be either of them, but it's worth finding out. Max comes home, and Steph tells him that they have both come back with positive attitudes.
Erinsborough High
Summer, finally alone, reads Caleb's letter. However, it's not the great letter she thought it would be: Caleb is dumping her for some other girl. She bursts into tears.
Hoyland house
Steph and Jack tell Max about their holiday. Steph starts to tell Max about a little incident Jack had, where he must have been dreaming about something good, because his pillow got a large collection of drool. Jack jokes that they are no longer related. The phone rings, and Steph leaves the room to answer it. Max asks Jack if the break made a difference. Jack says it did. Max tells him it's a good first step. He says that Steph's gone to a lot of trouble for him, and asks that he doesn't let her down. Jack scoffs. Max tells him that nothing seems to have changed; Jack still thinks he knows everything. Jack tells him that he thinks it's Max who corners the market on that one, and asks him to take some tests to find out why Steph can't get pregnant. Before either of them can say more, Steph runs in excitedly. Apparently a friend of her's had a baby girl. When she sees their reactions, she asks them what's going on.
Coffee Shop
Karl talks to David about the divorce. He says he's trying to make things easy for her, and if he wanted to play dirty he could. The solicitors have said that she's entitled to half the medical equipment, but not the goodwill. David suggests he could see the equipment, pocket the cash and Susan would have nothing to claim. Then he could use the money to set himself up again. Karl says he could never do that to Susan. David warns him to watch his back; women can be unpredictable when it comes to money.
Ramsay Street
Summer is looking at Caleb's present. Jack says it looks nice. "So nice I could shatter it into a million pieces," Summer says. She explains about Caleb dumping her. Jack tells her that some guys can't be trusted; they like to play the field. He tells her to take it from an expert, he's probably scared of commitment, and has a new girl every week, and doesn't care if he stuffs up other peoples' lives. Jack tells her that if he's going to hurt people like Summer, she's better off without him. To take her mind off it, they start a game of one-on-one soccer.
Coffee Shop
Harold offers Svetlanka some slice. She flatters him some more, saying he's a good cook, as well as so wise and caring. The women of Erinsborough must be blind. Talk soon turns to Lil and the money. Harold tells her she might still come around. Lil suddenly comes into the shop and Harold tells her it might be her chance now. She places her order, and noticing Svetlanka trying to catch her eye, she tells her she can't stop to chat, she's got a mountain of paperwork. Svetlanka asks her to at least sit with her while she waits for her food. Lil does, because she wants to tell her something: no matter what David says, they are not taking her money. So she might as well go home. If she cared about them, she would leave them alone. Svetlanka says she can't leave with the way things are between them. She admits it was wrong to offer them money, but she didn't know how else to show how sorry she was, and to beg her forgiveness. Lil says she wants to believe her, but she's done this with her too many times before, and at the end of the day she just thinks she can manipulate her to get what she wants. Svetlanka tells her that no matter what she thinks of her, she always loved her. She wants her and Serena back in her life, and she begs Lil to let her see them again. Meanwhile Harold has heard the whole conversation.
Hoyland house
Steph is getting clucky again, having just purchased some baby booties for her friend. Max tells her he's getting a drink, and asks if she wants anything. "Other than my own baby?" she asks. Max assures her that it will happen. He soon brings up the fact that Jack mentioned fertility tests (or lack thereof) to him. Max tells her he thought they agreed to let nature take it's course. "I know all about nature," Steph argues, "nature gave me cancer. What if that's the reason I can't conceive?" Max says that she doesn't know that for sure. Steph says that she wants to know, so even if he doesn't want to, she's having the fertility tests.
