Rocco tells Lou that the best way to gain money fast is to fix a horse race. Lou worries about going to jail, but Rocco tells him that it's the smallest of their worries. Summer tells Gus that it would be great if he and Izzy got together, and starts to brainstorm ideas about the wedding.
Steph and Max are trying to convince Summer that she won't be able to taste the anchovies that they are about to put in the dinner. Gus walks in and admits that he doesn't like them either, so Max decides to leave them out. Steph invites him to say for dinner, but Gus tells them that he came by to drop off some old photos of him and Max during their time on the rigs. Steph starts to look through them and comes across a photo of a girl kissing Max. Max claims that it was just Cint who was a young girl from the local pub, he doesn't make much of it, but Steph seems jealous.
Lou worries about the proposition Rocco is putting forward and how they might get caught out. Rocco assures him that his horse is a close enough match to the race horse and runs at a fast enough pace to insure them the win. He tells Lou to stop worrying about what might happen with officials, and more about how it will get Rocco off his back.
Lyn and Valda worry about the amount of dust that is around the house, and Lyn worries that if it continues much longer it might end up giving Oscar asthma. Valda reminds her that Sindi said it would only last another week, and then they'd be getting their TV debut. Lyn says she's looking forward to it, and wonders about how popular it will be. Wandering into the living room, Valda trips on a dust sheet and falls over. Getting up she realises she's sprained her ankle, and Lyn tells her she'll call Dr Lester. Valda tells her to ring Karl, but Lyn says they don't go to Karl anymore, so she'll have to get someone else to take her.
Lou asks Harold for some assistance with his latest business deal - $1,000 to help him get it started. Harold reminds him that he owes lots of people lots of money due to his latest scams with all the electrical equipment. Harold also reminds him that he has a family to look after and has offered to help David out with some payments. Lou tells him that the business deal is all legitimate, and that it will bring him the money he needs to pay back his friends. Harold agrees.
Lou hands drinks around to Rocco and his gang and informs Rocco that he's placed all the necessary bets for the race. Returning to the bar, he turns on the radio. Max inquires as to why he's listeing to the race, but Lou tells him it's just a business deal of Rocco's. To their wishes their horse wins and Lou secretly celebrates, while Rocco drinks a toast with his gang.
Valda calls Jack in Bendigo to try and get him to come and give her a lift to Karls. Lyn picks up the phone on the other line and tells him not to worry about them, but to keep lending a hand on the farm instead. Valda asks for the number of a cab, but Lyn finally gives in and tells Valda she'll take her.
Rocco and Lou are celebrating in the office with a bottle of champagne. Rocco tells him that he should be happy now he is able to pay of his debts to him, though he was suprised he managed to loose it so quickly and he shouldn't have lent him the money in the first place, as they are friends. Max comes through and asks them to move to the bar, Lou agrees, but afterwards Rocco tells him he should stick up for himself, or people will think he's a pushover.
Izzy gives Steph a twirl in her outfit and Steph reassures her that she looks great for her upcoming date, she goes to finish getting ready, and Steph returns to look at the old photo's of Max and Cint. Gus arrives and gives Summer a sweet for being quiet. He notices Steph looking at the photo's and appologises for bringing them along and stiring up old memories. Steph tells him not to worry and leaves him in the kitchen to wait for Izzy, picking up the car keys on her way out.
Karl informs Valda that she has only sprained her ankle and that he can strap it for her. lyn says she'll wait outside. Karl tells Valda he was suprised to see them in his surgery, but Valda tells him that Lyn is quick to hold grudes but that she doesn't feel the same way.
Izzy comes and find Gus in the kitchen, he tells her she looks a million dollars in her outfit. Summer wanders in and Gus asks her what she's got planned, she says she'll probably go and see a movie with Steph, but Gus invites her to come with him and Izzy instead. Izzy doesn't seem very pleased, but Summer accepts.
Steph tells Max that she just wants to clear the air over the matter of the photo. Max says he understands and tells her that after Claire died he, Gus and a few other mates from rigs used to go out partying as they didn't have any homes to go to. Jacinta was there for him as a friend, but he was still coming to terms with Claire's death. He tells Steph that he never loved Cynthia and it was only when he met her that he learned he could love again. Steph tells him she forgives him, and explains that Gus appologised loads for brining the pictures. Max agrees that he is a good friend to him.
Gus and Summer discuss the movie. Izzy asks why they left half way though and Gus and Summer tell her it was because the whole stoyline was so predictable. Summer goes to buy milkshakes for her and Gus, leaving Gus to ask Izzy why she looks so miserable. Izzy tells Gus she thought it was just a date between him and her. She asks him why he's so interested in the kids and he tells her they are like family to him. She reminds him that they are Max's family and not his, but he tells her that he thought Steph might like to spend some time with Max without Summer. Izzy comments about the strong relationship that Steph and Max have.
Steph tells Max that she managed to have the afternoon off as Summer went to the movies with Gus and Izzy. He tells her that he agrees with it being a good idea. As they walk along, Steph tells him that she is so happy with life and makes him sit on the bench. She asks him to remember the time when he asked her to marry him, and he says that she said no. She tells him she wasn't ready too then as she didn't know about her future with the cancer and wanted to concentrate on getting better. She gets down on one knee, and Max begins to look nervous. Steph asks Max to marry her, and he agrees. They embrace.
Steph asks Lyn why she's crying, and Lyn tells her that it's because she was remembering when she was so high, holding out her hand at knee height, and how time has flown. She tells Steph to cherish every moment. Over at the bar, Steph interrupts Valda is giving Max advice on how to be the best husband. Max asks Gus to be his best man as they go back so far, and Gus agrees. Karl comes over and congratulates them. Summer says she's happy as Steph is going to become her step-mum. Lyn arrives with the camera and they pose. Karl overlooks as Gus cuts himself on a piece of broken glass. He starts to give advice from the other end of the bar, but Gus tells him to back off and lets Izzy tend to him. Valda tries to appologise to Lou for being unfriendly earlier, but he ignores her efforts. Karl and Lou watch as Harold takes pictures of Max, Steph, Lyn and Summer. Karl asks Lou how things are going, and Lou admits that it's not all great at the moment. Karl gives him inside knowledge about the latest research with periwinkle powder and that it may soon be hitting the market. He lets Lou know that it is the right time to buy shares in the company as they will be making the announcement soon, Lou thanks him. Izzy watches Karl as he leaves.
In the offfice, Lou orders someone on the other end of the phone to buy $50,000 worth of shares in the pharmacutical company, telling them that he'll wire the money through. Max walks in on him and asks about his latest scheme, but Lou tells him that there is nothing dodgy with his latest one, announcing that Lou is back.
Karl is resting on the medical bed when there is a knock. Izzy walks in claiming that the door was open. He asks her why she isn't at the party, but she tells him that she doesn't feel like it. She goes on to tell him about her unsuccessful date with Gus, and Karl tells her that he doesn't care. Izzy asks him why, and he tells her that she deserves more than Gus as doesn't think Gus is worthy of her. He tells her he doesn't like to be used to pick up the pieces, and she asks him what he means. He tells her that he wants her.
