Recap
Toadie and Dee pronounced husband and wife - The car plunging off the cliff and into the ocean
Beach
The wedding flowers are floating underwater. Toadie comes up gasping for air, and calling out for Dee. He panics and dives under, swimming around the car but only seeing their suitcases in there. He comes back up, upset, and screaming out for Dee. He goes back under.
Road
Stu and Stonie are driving along, and they spot the broken road sign. They stop to see what went on, and see Toadie flailing about in the water. They hurry out of the car.
Beach
They see Toadie dive under, and Stonie tells Stu to call someone as he races down the hill. Stu asks for the police and an ambulance on 000 as Stonie rushes into the water. He gets to Toadie just as he's about to dive under again, and tells him to float. But Toadie says he can't find Dee, and they both dive under.
Stonie and Toadie look in the car, come back up for air, and go under again. Toadie tries to bust the door open in frustration but Stonie pulls him back up. He makes Toadie float and starts to guide him back to shore.
Stu yells into the phone for them to hurry up, and runs into the water to help. Stu and Stonie help Toadie walk, but Toadie is yelling out asking where Dee is, and tries to run back in.
Stonie pins him down so Toadie can catch his breath, saying he can't look after both of them. Stu rushes into the water to keep searching. Toadie says to Stonie to find her, and Stonie runs in after Stu. Toadie is lying on the sand crying.
Some time has passed, and the police and search & rescue teams have arrived and are combing the water. Someone puts a blanket around Toadie, as Stonie and Stu wearily traipse out of the water. Stu tells Toadie that the police ordered them out, and they'll take over.
Toadie shakes his head in disbelief. "Where is she?" The diving crew are searching in the water. He tells Stu to tell them to hurry up because Dee will be getting cold. He gets upset again. "Make sure they find her." Stu says he will.
Angie and Kev, and Karl, Susan and Libby pull up, not knowing what's going on. Karl yells to Susan to get his bag out of the boot and rushes down to Toadie. He asks if he's okay as the rest of them run down after him. Angie panics for her boys, and Stonie says they're fine. She then asks where Dee is. They all turn to look at the divers. Toadie's eyes go wide and he tells everyone to shush because he can hear something. They all scramble up listening intently, but it's the rescue helicopters.
Karl takes Stu aside and asks what happened. Stu tells him that Toadie ran off the road, and Dee's missing. He says they dived in so many times, and the police have been searching for close to an hour. Karl goes over to tell Libby and Susan what happened. The rescue divers jump in from the helicopters, as everyone on the shore looks on.
Beach
There's choppers, boats and people everywhere. Everyone is staring solemnly at the search efforts. Libby slowly walks over to where Toadie is sitting on the sand, crouches down and hugs him. A diver strides past, and says it looks like the cops are going to call it a day. Toadie scrambles up after the guy, and says they can't. His eyes are all red and wet.
TOADIE: She's a good swimmer, she's gonna be on the shore somewhere isn't she? I mean, that's probably where she is. She's probably hiding or something, and playing a stupid game, then she's gonna come back and then's she's gonna be in big trouble.
He bursts into tears, and yells that he's going to wait for her. One by one the choppers and the boats leave, leaving Toadie sobbing on the beach.
The Pub
Taj walks in, wearing his work uniform and sees Libby at a table. He goes over to her. Taj says he's meeting some mates to play pool and asks how the wedding went. She starts to cry and he asks what happened.
Number 30
Stu and the Rebecchi's walk in forlornly. Angie says she'll put the kettle on. Toadie leans against the wall.
Dee and Toadie's Room
The camera pans up from a photograph of Dee and Toadie on the dresser. Toadie says he'll have to give the blanket back to the Ambo's in the morning, but Angie says there's no rush. They sit down on the bed. Angie tries not to get upset, and says that Toadie might have to face the facts. Toadie nods and says he knows what she's going to say, but he believes Dee will be fine. He says she'll be cold and miserable, that's all. Toadie says that if anything had happened, he'd feel it in his heart, but he doesn't. He thanks Angie for her support, and asks if she minds if he was left alone for awhile. She gets up to leave. "Mum... thanks for a beautiful wedding." Angie starts to cry as she goes out.
Toadie looks around the empty room and sees Bob under the bed. He pats him and says they've lost Dee. He begins to cry, saying they've looked and looked. Toadie puts Bob down and lies back on the bed. His eyes cast over to the pillow next to him and he sees an envelope.
He quickly sits up and rips it open to find a letter. It starts off as Toadie's voiceover reading it, then it transforms into Dee's voice.
Dee's Letter
My darling, darling one I'm alone in our room because you've just gone to the pub... how unusual!
It's suddenly quiet for the first time in months it feels like. Tomorrow I shall make my public promises to you, my darling. And we will be joined together, forever and ever, and I can't wait.
Did you know that when I see you unexpectedly, like around the corner or across the street, I get a little gasp and my knees go to water. Just for a tiny moment. It's getting worse everyday. What am I going to be like when we're sixty-four?!
Your mum's calling me, so I'll finish for now. Maybe I'll slip this under your pillow tomorrow, after you leave for the wedding. Like the tooth fairy.
All my love for all my life, my darling Forever, Dee.
Toadie's lip trembles as he fights back tears.
The Pub
Libby is telling Taj about how long she's known Toadie for, and that he used to live with them. Libby gets upset saying she was watching Toadie today, shivering on the beach staring out to sea like he could make the waves part. Libby remembers looking at Drew like that in the ambulance, thinking, "As long as I'm looking at you, nothing can happen... and then they took him away." She wants to know how she can tell Toadie that all the love in the world can't stop terrible things from happening. Taj says that losing Drew must have been hard, but she's pulled through. Libby says the truth is that she's weak. She just wants to escape to a bright, happy place. Taj says that happens right there. She makes things happen for people, and she should take some of that for herself. Libby smiles and says he makes it sound so simple. He says it is. "We're alive. Let's live."
Number 30
Stu answers the door to Karl, Susan and Ben. They ask if there's any news, and how Toadie is. They speak with Angie and Kev, and Susan asks if Angie minds if she sees Toadie. Angie says it's fine, and Karl says he'll be there if she needs any help.
Dee and Toadie's Room
Susan knocks on the door and says she's coming in. She asks if Toadie's alright. He nods, then makes room for her next to him. He plays with the letter, and Susan takes his hand. He says to Susan that he thinks Dee is still alive, and holds up the letter.
TOADIE: Now you tell me, how somebody who could write this, is just gonna give up on life? Not till she's a hundred at least.
Susan starts to cry and hugs him.
Outside the Kennedys
Libby thanks Taj for walking her home. She spots the Rebecchi's car, but says that it'll just be bad news which'll still be bad news in the morning. Libby says that she doesn't want to go inside and face everyone yet. Taj says she can come back to his place if she wants, saying his mum and dad are away for the weekend. Then off her look, he assures her he's not hitting on her. He just thought she might want to talk some more. She says she believes him, and asks why he's so nice to her. Libby puts her hand on his cheek and kisses him. Taj kisses her back.
Dee and Toadie's Room
Toadie is lying on the bed with Bob, holding the letter. He looks at Dee's pillow and gently places the letter on it. He switches the lamp off and lays there staring at the paper.
