No.26
Lyn walks into the kitchen trying to avoid the subject of Valda's pregnancy. "I didn't know Valda had kids." says Max. Lyn tells him Valda just doesn't talk about it much. She keeps changing the subject and asks Max if he wants a cup of tea. Max decides he should go home and check on how Steph is going with Summer. He wishes Lyn a happy birthday for the next day, then he leaves. Joe tries to talk to Lyn about Valda. She avoids the subject and decides she doesn't need a cup of tea and she'll go and have a bath. "But Valda was pregnant." Joe says to himself.
No.32
Steph is telling Boyd off for letting Summer take the blame for stealing Max's money. "That is really low Boyd." she tells him. Boyd is getting sick of Steph interfering and tells her he doesn't care what she think. Steph tells him that maybe he will care what his dad thinks. Boyd isn't happy and tells Steph she doesn't have to tell his dad because everything is ok now. "I'm not going to tell him. You are." Steph replies. Max comes in and tells Steph about Valda being pregnant on the home movie. Steph tells him it would have been Connie who was pregnant. "No, it was definitely Valda." Max insists. Steph looks worried and goes home to find out what's going on.
Erinsborough Hospital
Jack visits Valda in hospital. He asks her how the food is. She tells him it's alright. Then she changes her mind and says it's horrible and they can't even scramble an egg. Jack tells her he's sorry she's having a bad egg day. Valda tells him he has nothing to be sorry about and it wasn't his fault the food was bad. Valda seems to know Jack is feeling guilty. She tells him he doesn't need to visit her just because he feels he has to. Jack tells her it isn't that and he says sorry. "Your sorry for an awful lot of things today aren't you?" she says with a smile. "Yeah, sorr..." Jack starts to say. Then he laughs. Valda smiles and thanks him for coming to visit her.
No.26
Steph is trying to ask Joe what's going on with Valda when Lyn walks in. She continues trying to avoid the subject of Valda. Steph tells her that Max said Valda was pregnant in the movie. Lyn snaps at Steph that it's none of her's or Max's business. Steph looks worried and makes an eye gesture to Joe to come and talk with her privately. She asks him what's going on. Joe says he doesn't know and he thinks they should just leave it alone until Lyn is ready to talk about it. They go back to Lyn and Steph says she needs some advice on Boyd, how he let Summer take the rap for what he did. Lyn starts rambling on about how Boyd shouldn't be allowed to get away with it and that's it's the principal of the thing. Steph and Joe both look worried at how Lyn is acting.
No.32
Max is angry that Boyd let Summer take the blame. "You can forget about keeping those shoes now." he says. "Whatever." Boyd replies. Max tells him he's running out of choices and wants to know why he is acting surly all the time. He asks Boyd if he's acting like this to get back at him. Boyd tells him it's not always about him, then he asks if he can go. Max has had enough of him and tells him to go to his room. "Where else would I go?" Boyd says as he walks out.
No.26
It's late and Lyn is watching the old home movie again. Joe comes out of the bedroom and yawns. Lyn is trying to convince herself that Valda isn't her mother. "Valda must have lost the baby, the poor thing." she says. "Or maybe it's really Connie." Joe tells her it's Valda. Lyn still tries to escape the truth. She says the film is so grainy that you can't tell and that it's so blooming old. Joe starts to tell Lyn that she should consider the fact that Valda's her mother when Jack comes out asking if everything's allright. He looks at the movie. Surprised, he says, "Valda pregnant?" Lyn says that everything is fine, she just can't sleep because the baby keeps kicking her. She goes off to get some warm milk for everyone.
Erinsborough Hospital
Valda wakes up sounding distressed like she has just had a bad dream. She turns on a light next to the bed and looks at a framed picture of the Scullys. She picks it up and hugs it.
No.26
Jack walks in the kitchen with a present for Lyn. "Where's the birthday girl?" he asks. Steph tells him she must have gone to work already. Steph is worried about how Lyn is acting and asks Joe if Valda is Lyn's mother. "Yes, it would seem that way." Joe replies. Jack looks shocked at what he's just heard. Steph is worried about Lyn not facing the truth about Valda. Joe tells her that Lyn will face it when she's ready. He then tells both Steph and Jack they need to be there for Lyn.
Erinsborough Hospital
Valda is getting ready to leave. A nurse comes in and is surprised she's still there. Valda tells her she won't be there much longer and she'll be picked up very soon. Valda is looking at her present for Lyn, when Lyn walks up and looks through the door at Valda. But she turns around and walks back before Valda sees her. Valda looks at her watch and says they should be there by now to pick her up.
The Hair Salon
Lyn walks in and sees baloons everywhere. "Allright girls. She's here." says Gino. The other hair dressers come out and they all yell, "Surprise!" Lyn tries to look happy, but she isn't really in the mood. "Happy Birthday, old girl." Gino says as he hugs Lyn. "That's enough of the old, thanks." says Lyn, half laughing. Gino jokes that he won't ask her age because then he will have to tell her how old he is. "Well, you're only as old as you feel." Lyn says. Lyn tries her best to look happy and tells Gino it's great and she thanks everyone for the birthday surprise.
No.32
Step is upset and is confiding in Max about Valda. She tells him she doesn't know who her real grandfather is, just as Lyn doesn't know who her real father is. "Yeah, this is big." Max says. Steph thinks her mum shouldn't suffer alone and says she should go and see her at the salon. Max tells her that maybe she should let Lyn have some space for ce for a while. Boyd comes in and tells them that if they are going to talk about him, they should atleast wait until he's out of the room. Steph is more upset and tells Boyd they were talking about Valda, not him. Max's patience is wearing thin and he tells Boyd to get outside.
Ramsay Street
Outside, Valda pulls up in a taxi outside the Scullys as Boyd and Max walk out. Max tells Boyd he sick of him being a self-centred prat and he's had a gutfull. Boyd says nothing. "You had better smart up now rather than later, understand?" Max says. "Yes, Dad I hear you." Boyd replies. "Good." Max says. "Now go in there and apologize to Stephanie." Max and Boyd go back inside as Valda gets her things out of the taxi and heads to the Scullys.
No.26
Jack is writing on a birthday card for Lyn when Valda walks in. She asks where Lyn is. Jack tells her Lyn's at work. Valda says that's good because she'll be able to prepare a surprise party for her. She asks Jack if Stephanie's around. Jack tells her she isn't. Valda is disappointed because she needs a hand to prepare a party. She asks Jack if he's got any plans. "No....Yes, I have to get the cake." Jack replies. Valda tells him not to worry about that because she's going to make one of Lyn's favourites. Jack tells her he has to go and he'll be back later.
The Hair Salon
Joe comes in and Gino tells him he told Lyn she could have the rest of the afternoon off, but she wants to keep working. Joe goes over to Lyn and asks her why she's still at work. She tells him she has clients all afternoon. Joe says that Gino has said she could have the rest of the afternoon off. Lyn doesn't seem to want to leave and tells him she can't just leave when she has all these clients. Joe tells her she should come home on that day of all days. But Lyn insists she has to stay and tells Joe she'll see him back at home that night.
Lassiters Complex
Joe walks out of the hair salon and sees Jack. He looks worried about Lyn. Jack asks when Lyn's going to say something about Valda. Joe tells him he doesn't think Lyn is ready for that yet because she's angry with her. Jack think that the longer Lyn leaves it, the worse it's going to get. Joe agrees with him, but thinks it's wise to let Lyn talk when she's ready. "What are we going to say to Valda?" Jack asks. Joe doesn't know, so he doesn't answer.
The Pub
Max and Steph play darts, but Steph isn't really in the mood. She tells Max that Flick and Michelle rang up that morning and knew that something was up and that she was hiding it. She thinks that it's up to her mum to tell Flick and Michelle, but she doesn't know if she will tell them. She tells Max she's sorry for burdening him. Max says it's fine and he's glad after all the trouble with his family that the focus has shifted for a change. He hugs her and says, "Burden away." Steph smiles. "I don't know what I'd do without you, anymore." she tells him. "Me either." he says.
The Coffee Shop
Boyd tells Summer off for taking the blame for him. She tells him she was just trying to stick up for him. He tells her that next time, not to bother and he wish everyone would just leave him alone. He leaves just as Max is walking in. He can see Summer is upset about something and asks her what's wrong. "Boyd hates me." she says. Max tells her Boyd doesn't hate her, he's just working through some stuff. "But he was really mean." she says. "That just happens sometimes." Max says. "You should have seen some of the fights me and your aunt used to have. But we never meant it. Boyd will come around soon. You'll see."
No.26
Joe and Jack come in and Valda is getting the party ready for Lyn. She is surprised that Lyn still hasn't come back from work. Joe tells her that Lyn still has a few clients to go. Valda shows Joe that she's made a jam roll for Lyn because she loved them when she was a kid. She tells him she's making another one as well for a picnic the next day. Joe tells her he doesn't think a picnic is a good idea. Valda asks why not because Lyn always loved picnics. Joe explains that she won't want to go on a picnic because they watched the home movie from Easter, 1957 that Henry sent down. Valda suddenly looks very worried. Joe tells her they know she is Lyn's mother.
