- Lori wishing that she could get out of the hospital and go home.
Alex/Steph
Alex and Steph are cooking dinner on an open fire at their campsite. Alex tends to ponder over his maps, trying to decide what route to take next. Steph pokes fun at him, saying that he has a strange obsession with maps. He laughs and decides that it would be better to take the back road for a while, see some of the more unknown parts of Australia. Steph sighs and tells him that she's heading off to bed to give her weary bones a rest. He protests, saying that she hasn't helped pick which route yet... it was part of the deal remember? Steph just heads back to the tent calling out 'surprise me.'
A restless Steph was tossing and turning in her sleeping bag. Alex wakes up and offers something to put under her pillow, and asks if she has actually slept so far. She shakes her head and lays her head on the jacket or coat, some piece of clothing like that. Alex asks her if she is having 2nd thoughts, but Steph is fast to deny it. Alex reminds her that she won't have a good time until she lets Ramsay Street go.
When the two of them wake up the next morning Alex offers Steph a cup of tea. Steph looks into her tea and sighs, reminding him that everyone in the house would be getting ready for work or school. Alex tells Steph to cheer up, because he has a surprise for her. She looks up and he tells her that there is a place a mile up the highway that rents out canoes, and that they could rent one out for a couple of days. Steph starts making excuses, but Alex just looks at her and says 'trust me.'
Steph and Alex have rented out the canoe and are paddling up the river. Steph stops paddling, and Alex yells at her joyfully 'keep paddling Scully' and splashes her with the paddle. Steph laughs and splashes him back, saturating him from head-to-toe. They begin to have a 'splashing war' looking like they are having the time of their lives.
The Scullys
Lori, Michelle and Jack are at the Coffee Shop having a meal, Lori still in her wheelchair. Jack makes a joke about Harold's food being better then any food at the hospital. Lori just smiles. Jack then looks around the Coffee Shop uncomfortably, and tells Lori and Michelle that people should stop staring. Michelle looks around and announces that nobody is staring. Jack says that it feels like it, and Lori looks uncomfortable through this whole conversation.
Karl is talking to Lyn and Joe about changes that have to be made in the home to suit Lori's needs; ramps, handrails etc. Karl then excuses himself, leaving Joe and Lyn alone. Lyn asks Joe if they are ready for such a commitment, but he tells her to settle down and just to have a look at what needs doing.
Lyn, Joe and Michelle then sit Jack down and tell him about the changes they need to make to the house to make Lori comfortable. Jack disagrees with them, saying that she won't be in a wheelchair forever, and that those kind of thing would upset her and she doesn't need to think about right now. Joe tells him to get his head out of the clouds and come back to reality. She may never recover, so that's why they need to be prepared.
Lyn and Michelle are getting the wheelchair out of the car while Jack and Joe get Lori, and place her in the wheelchair. All this is done in chaos. Jack welcomes Lori home, and she smiles and replies that it's good to be home. Max then sees Lori and asks if she needs any help. She shakes her head and he reminds them to call if they need anything, before leaving. Then there was this awkward silence broken by Lori who looks at the ground and says 'I forgot you had stairs.' Karl then walks up to the Scullys and welcome them home before noticing Lori and the front stairs. Karl looks at them and asks them if there is any easier access from the back, but Joe says that they will fix it themselves and Karl takes the hint and leaves. Jack then picks Lori up and carries her up the stairs and inside and is followed by Michelle, Lyn and Joe.
Everyone is fussing over Lori, giving her videos to watch, paper to read and other things to do. Jack subtly asks them to stop it. They leave Jack and Lori alone, and Lori confides in him that she hates turning everyone's lives upside down, just for her. She also wants Jack to go to school, because he has missed so much already. He agrees in the end, promising to ring during lunch and he leaves. She then wheels herself beside the phone and dials, answering 'hi mum.'
She apologies to her mother for not ringing earlier, and how terrible she feels. Tells her to give her father all the best and she will ring tomorrow. Jack stands quietly in the doorway as she hung up. Lori turns around in surprise, asking how long he has been there. He looks at her and asks if her dad is sick again. Lori looks at him with tears in her eyes and tells him that her father had another attack and was admitted to the hospital last week. Jack asks if she told them about her accident, but Lori shakes her head saying that she couldn't. It wasn't like she didn't want to, but there was so much happening already, she didn't need to worry them. Jack gently tells her that she has to tell them, but she looks terribly confused. She feels that it is unfair to Lyn and Joe for looking after her, and with the baby on the way they don't need so much burden. He tells her that it will all be ok and that is handling this amazingly. She smiles and tells him that she is a wreck, but she'd be worse if it wasn't for him. He puts an arm around her and she looks a mixture of frustration, hurt and confusion.
Lyn and Joe come home early to find Lori patting Harvey. Lori looks up and tells them that they are 'firm friends.' They show Lori what they have bought for her, to make things easier for her. She shakes her head and tells them that they shouldn't have to change the house for her, and that she will pay them back for all the money they have spent on her. Lyn and Joe say that it is fine and money isn't a concern, but Lori insists. Jack then walks in and hears the end of the conversation and jumps to conclusions. He bursts out angrily 'Why should Lori pay for it? I'll pay for it if I have to!' They both look hurt, and Lori starts to explain that she offered to pay, it's not their fault. Joe asks what has got into Jack but he just storms out.
Jack is sitting under the pergola and Michelle sits next to him. He looks at the ground and tells that he made a pretty big fool of himself. She smiles, but them tells him that he better go home and apologize as Lyn and Joe don't deserve that treatment. They have gone out of their way for him and Lori and he shouldn't shrug it off. Jack shakes his head and tells her that he doesn't deserve it. Michelle looks confused and Jack looks at her and tells her that he has done something, and it includes Lori. He makes her promise that she will not tell before admitting that he has been cheating on Lori with someone else. Michelle looks shocked.
The Pub
Valda's 'Japanese theme' is still doing fairly well at the pub. Valda shows Lou what she has just bought; another twelve souci sets, and Lou is fairly angry. He thinks that Valda's ideas are ridiculous and asks what on earth is next... Oktoberfest? She thinks that it is a great suggestion and goes off to think about it. Lou storms off. Max and Connor look amused, especially when Connor tells Max about the $100 bet with Lou; that he will blow his stack, and perhaps fire Valda in less than a month. Max thinks that Lou might make it but Connor shakes his head and says 'no hope'
Later that day Lou asks Valda where she has been. She is carrying shopping bags and announces that she has been running around. She produces a shopping bag just for Lou, saying that for one Lou is going to shine... and be the centre of attention; so close your eyes! Lou closes his eyes and opens them to see a yellow diaper. He can't believe it and asks what is it. Valda stands there and replies that it is a sumo wrestlers outfit you silly twit, and to try it on. Max and Connor are highly amused. Connor tells Valda it is a great idea and that Lou should go for it. Serving raw fish in the raw. Valda walks away to leave Lou to get changed. Lou gives Connor the $100 and calls Valda back. She comes back to see Lou not changed into his 'diaper.' He tells Valda that he has had enough and she is fired.
Valda knocks on Lou's office door later on, but Lou tells her that it is no good, she's not getting her job back and that's that. Max interrupts, but Lou tells him to let him finished saying that there will be no more 'hair brained schemes' but Max interrupts saying that the restaurant takings are up 25% since Valda started and that the figures have never been better. That stops Lou talking and he announces that there must be a mistake. Max shakes his head saying that he has checked three times and Lou even has a look, and is shocked. Valda is standing in the hallway looking quite smug. She tells him that since he has fired her, she won't come back cheap but Max tells Lou that they need to hire her again.
Afterwards Michelle comes in and asks Connor and Max if she could see Valda. Connor tells her that she is negotiating with Lou out the back so she may be a while. Michelle asks him to see if she has an idea of something to cook for Lori's welcome home. He says that he'll pass it on and Michelle leaves. Connor sighs and asks Max if he has really done the right thing by dumping Michelle.
