Recap
- Rosie tells Max she has to go to Sydney for briefing on cyclone relief in New Guinea.
- Steph tells Alex she'll go with him on the trip.
Dee and Darcy get home (we saw the outside for the first time) in the early morning. They agree it was quite a night as he waves a big bundle of money around. He rubs her feet for her as she lies back on the lounge saying her feet are killing her. He describes big money plans for travelling the world in luxury. She has her eyes closed and he moves in until he looks as though he'll kiss her, but without realising it, she sits up, saying a girl can't survive on fantasies and goes to make breakfast.
Summer talks to Steph while she's cleaning her bike in the street. Summer talks about getting a bike like hers when she grows up. Steph says her dad won't like that much, so Summer replies quietly that her dad doesn't know what he likes. She's surprised to learn that Steph will be packing later as she's leaving the following day. Steph assures her she would have called to make her promise to write to her and she plans to send Summer a card from every town she goes to. At the mention Of Alex's e-mail address, Summer's voice goes dead 'Oh, Alex.' Steph reminds her she should be getting to school.
Lou's talking about how much money you can get for bits of old metal or wood from a bushranger's hut, tips for Alex on his travels. Lou insists Steph wouldn't be leaving Erinsborough with someone who's just a mate. Summer arrives to ask Max for $20 for an excursion.
Over breakfast, Dee and Darcy discuss last night and the fear he felt. She tells him it didn't show and she's going to have to think twice before believing him from now on, as his poker face is so good. He promises her an unforgettable day.
Lou's arranging to have old 1930s barbed wire sent to him and gets Alex to promise to send him things they find along the way. Alex calls them 'scams', Lou calls them business opportunities.
Max asks Alex to look after Steph, as she's not as wordly as she seems. Alex looks thoughtful as it's so obviously important to Max.
At the Coffee Shop, Dee tells Darcy he didn't have to buy everything she said looked good on him. While Darcy's off answering a phone call, Harold asks if something's going on as they're spending so much time together, but Dee says they're just good friends. When she mentions the card-game, Harold goes quiet and won't accept her reassurances that gambling's harmless fun. He disagrees and says he hopes it's the card-game's a one-off. He gives Dee an enormous parcel as a 'little token of his appreciation', a gown she'd been saying she needed.
Rosie comes to see Max and is on a high because she has just had an amazing experience and is going to New Guinea in a day or so. She has volunteered for three months for starters - her idea for redeeming herself for her recent poor behaviour and because she'd remembered that she first joined the church to help people in need.
Max comments that it's quite a week as Steph's going too. She tells him that he could maybe make Steph change her mind and says again that he shouldn't be deciding for Steph that she should go, but should tell her how he feels and let her decide. Alex comes to say that the Primary School has rung so Max wonders what Summer has done now.
In Ramsay Street, Summer has made Steph a gift of a picture-frame containing a picture of the two of them and she runs over to give it to her when she rides into the street. Summer apologises for not seeing her so much because of Alex. They hug and say they'll miss one another.
Just as Steph's asking whether she should be at school, they see Max and Rosie drive up. He realises the excursion money was for the materials to make Steph's frame and softens rather than telling her off much.
Rosie takes Summer off for lunch and Max and Steph talk. He thinks she needn't take the frame but she says she wants to and will really miss Summer. He says they'll all miss her, he'll miss her and then tries to play it down by saying he's always running into her in the street and the pub etc. She tells him that she and Alex are just friends and when he says Alex said that too, teases him for talking about her. They reluctantly say goodbye.
She admits to feeling nervous about the trip but says it's a time to take opportunities. He adds that there's 'a time to stand back' and says goodbye.
At the pub
Summer's worried about Rosie going into the wilds and says she doesn't want her to go. if she'll have an e-mail address so she can write to her as she will Steph. Rosie promises to send an address as soon as she has one and to keep in touch regularly so they know she's safe. Harold comes to talk to them so Rosie calls Lou over, saying she has some rather exciting news.
Dee thanks Darcy again for the beautiful gown and tells him some people are getting the wrong idea about them and since she's not over Toadie yet, she doesn't want that. He replies that nobody's getting the wrong idea about Toadie and Sindi. She thanks him for what he's doing when he claims to be trying to make up for what he did in the past.
Joe finds Steph up late as she can't sleep. She's nervous and having misgivings because she doesn't even know Alex very well. Joe points out that there's no shame in changing your mind and gives her a Who tape to remind her of home. He tells her to follow her heart and do what's best for her. She's to take care and remember that they're always there for her.
Very early in the morning, Lyn and Joe are outside to say goodbye to Steph and Alex. Summer runs out to wave, followed by Max, who just looks as they ride out of sight.
