City police station
Steph says yes and confirms this when Woody asks her. He wonders about her family though and Steph says he can phone and write to them until it calms down enough for them to return. Woody asks if he's pushed her into it but she tells him it was meant to be and she just wants to be with him.
No. 26
Joe wonders if Steph has said goodbye to Woody yet but Lyn isn't so sure she is going to and takes out her frustrations on the bin before going to answer the ringing phone. Michelle gives Joe a list of the people to invite to Flick's party when Lyn hangs up to collect Flick from the station.
City police station
Woody and Steph discuss how they can stay safe outwith witness protection and he suggests going to the outback. Steph puts on the realism hat and asks how are they going to get jobs if they are far from civilisation. Woody tells her they'll have enough money to get started but the detective calls time on their meeting and they hug each other.
No. 24
Paul and Tad are giving Michelle's list the once-over and remove unsuitable persons. Tad asks why Larissa's name isn't on it and begins to squabble with Paul over who is on the list. Michelle takes her chance to escape as Lou arrives to ask Harold a favour - a roof over his head for a few nights because his house has sprung a leak under the stairs and is in the middle of being repaired. Harold agrees if he can put up with the racket Paul and Tad are making.
City police station
The detective is stunned at Woody wanting to leave witness protection and reminds them that Kev Kelly is still after him and asks if they are still prepared to take the risk of going it alone without any backing from the police. After looking at Woody, Steph tells the detective to make the necessary phonecalls to get Woody out of witness protection. Woody tells Steph he'll need to return to where he's been living to tidy up the loose ends and tells Steph to say her goodbye's too and next week it will just be the two of them alone but together.
No. 26
Flick is back from camp and tells the family how it went before asking about Steph. They are a bit vague and mention to her that Steph may be upset when she returns. Flick asks if they've seen much of Joel and they say every now and then but she's off to see him now. Michelle then tells her parents that Flick isn't going to be happy when Flick discovers Joel is away with Dione!
No. 30
Flick knocks on the door and shouts Joel's name but gets no answer, so she leaves a flower on the doorstep.
No. 26
Steph arrives home and as Lyn goes to console her, Steph tells them Woody is leaving witness protection so they can be together, and that she is going away with him. Joe and Lyn are stunned at this news.
No. 26
Lyn is now going mental at Steph's news saying it is ridiculous to choose a life on the run just to be with him. Steph tells Lyn that it is her decision and Michelle joins in with telling Lyn to calm down but she is firmly told to leave it to them. While Michelle storms off to her room, Lyn asks Steph if Woody knows what he is asking her to do and Steph angrily replies back that he does. Lyn can't believe this and asks Steph if this is how she wants to lead her life. Steph decides that she's had enough of this and walks away from her parents, not that Joe can get a word in edgewise like. Finally Joe shouts "Lyn" and she replies what are they to do - never see their daughter again? Steph reassures Lyn that she will see her again once everything has calmed down. Lyn tells her things will never calm down because they won't stop until they find him and that is why he was in witness protection in the first place. She asks Steph if this is the life she wants to lead, always having to watch her back.
LYN: If Woody really loved you, he would never let you do this.
STEPH: Mum.
LYN: He just wouldn't.
Lyn leaves the kitchen crying and Joe holds Steph back from following her. Joe asks her if he can stop her.
STEPH: I know how you feel dad but I have to make my own decisions.
She now bursts into tears and Joe consoles her.
No. 24
Tad brings Flick up to speed on the latest news about Tess and Darcy and sarcastically Flick asks if she is upset. Paul then lets slip that Toadie and Joel have taken her away! Flick is stunned by this news but thinks it is a housemate's thing until Tad tells her that Toadie isn't there!
No. 26/Ramsay Street
Flick watches at the window as Joel and Dione arrive home.
Outside in the street Dione thanks Joel for being a friend whist they were away and kisses him on the cheek - observed of course by Felicity.
No. 30
Dee and Joel are thankful to be home when Flick arrives at the door and looks down to see the flower she left has been trampled and hearing Joel and Dione being extremely friendly. She knocks on the door and Joel is pleased to see her as he invites her in. They ask her how study camp was and where they were. After telling her, Dione makes a subtle retreat to make some coffee. Joel says they are just friends and goes to hug her but she isn't exactly happy.
No. 24
Harold gives Paul the delightful news about what they are going to be watching on telly - a documentary about geese. Oh how wonderful! Tad comes home with a video and is told of the viewing choice for the night. Lyn and Joe bring round some food for Flick's party. In the kitchen Harold observes that Lyn is a little bit down and asks if there is anything he can do to help but Lyn replies that she is fine.
No. 26
Michelle comments to Flick and Steph that she's never seen Lyn so quiet before. Flick asks Steph if she is intent on going through with this and she says that there is a lot of things to do and notices Michelle getting upset. She tells her that she will see her again, even if it is in secret and jokingly suggest they could even dress up in different disguises! Changing the subject completely, Steph asks Flick what Joel has arranged for her birthday and she remarks back that it depends on what Dione has organised! Steph wonders what she is going on about but given the sombre atmosphere she doesn't explain further, instead going to over to sit next to Steph on the sofa where the 3 sisters hug each other and tell Steph how much they'll miss her.
No. 26 (next day)
Flick opens he birthday presents when Jack calls but before he gets to speak to Flick, Steph subtly tells him that he may not hear from her for a bit and she'll write to explain further. Flick now gets to speak to her brother as Joel arrives to give her a birthday hug and kiss. Once off the phone, Joel invites her to spend her birthday over at his place and they leave. As soon as she's out the door they quickly get the place ready for the party.
No. 30
Joel and Flick enter and he gives her a proper birthday kiss but she wants her present! Joel says that he did what she asked and didn't make a fuss but Flick tells him that she was lying. After a tense few seconds, Joel hands over her present - a CD voucher (last of the big spenders eh!), just as Dione comes through asking why his dirty undies are in with her washing. She wishes Flick a happy birthday before departing and Flick asks if they can go for a walk. Joel announces that they can't as his knee injury is playing up and she could watch a Jacques Cousteau documentary he taped with him instead! What a lovely way to celebrate your 18th as they settle down to watch it.
No. 24
Harold and Lou are arguing about movies and reminiscing about Madge when Tad and Paul come through to tell them they'll be late for the surprise.
No. 30
Flick is bored out of her mind watching the doco but Joel replies that there is still more to go yet but promises her that once they've watched it, her day will get better! Flick wants to know what is going on and he denies there is anything going on, which of course she doesn't believe. She asks him if he has anything to tell her, he doesn't, and then asks why he went away with Dione. Getting slightly annoyed, he tells her that there is nothing going on between Dione and himself, so she asks why go away then. Getting even more annoyed, he replies that it was due to Dione being upset and wanting to comfort her. Flick thinks there is more to the comforting part and Joel wanting to avoid an argument asks if they can talk about it later. Flick sarcastically asks if it is so they can get their stories right and angrily, Joel asks her to drop it. She takes this as a statement of guilt, which Joel denies, but she thinks that she is right. Angrily, Joel tells her that she doesn't know what she is talking about and warns her again to drop it. Flick is annoyed at being threatened like a kid comments that does he think she is stupid? Putting his big feet in it, Joel tells her no...up until now. With Dione listening in the background, she accuses Joel and Dione of being up to something when they were away and Joel tells her he was just being a friend to Dione. Flick now thinks he wants her to react and get upset so he can call it off and get back with Dione. Eventually Joel agrees with her that he does want out and Flick storms out despite Dione calling after her to wait because she has the wrong idea.
No. 26
Operation surprise party is just about complete now when Michelle notices Flick approaching the house. Everyone is told to be quiet, and on the doorstep, Flick tries to wipe away the tears that have formed before she enters the house. She enters the house and everyone shouts, "surprise" and goes to hug her but she just heads straight for her room and when she reaches its safety, breaks down crying.
No. 30
Dione is laying into Joel for what he did, but he already feels guilty. He tells Dione that Flick was being immature and Dione gives him what for, for doing it on her 18th. A knock on the door interrupts them - it's Joe!
JOE: Have you any idea of what you've done to Felicity?
JOEL: Look Joe I know this is bad.
JOE: No save it. You've put my family through hell. Now I thought you know, I'd got you all wrong, my gut instinct was out.
JOEL: I really think this is none of your business.
JOE: What sort of a man are you Joel? Oh that's it. You're not a man. You're a little boy... a self-centred little boy.
