Recap
- Cody thinks it would be easier to cut Drew out of her life, but it's hard.
- Danni and Brett are bickering
- Phil is on the phone to Julie - Debbie is in hospital
- Cody finds loads of junk food in Debbie's chest (covered in ants). She realises that Debbie has bulimia.
No.26 (Outside)
Hannah is confused that Debbie is suffering from malnutrition because she "eats all the time".
HANNAH: Once I saw her eat a whole fruit cake, all by herself!
BRETT: You're kidding.
HANNAH: No, so she can't be sick cos she's starving. I'd better tell Mum and Dad.
CODY: Oh, I don't know...
HANNAH: We have to, so they can tell the doctors.
BRETT: Look, Hannah, they're pretty worried about Deb as it is. Telling them might make it worse.
HANNAH: If we don't, Debbie's never going to get better is she?
Cody reassures Hannah that Debbie will be OK. She asks Hannah to keep this a secret until she has a chance to talk to Debbie.
Brett heads off and Hannah tells Cody she's read about "psychic detectives" who can make weird things go away.
No.24
Lou is moaning that nobody has done any laundry since Cheryl has been in hospital. He decides to draw up a roster for chores and make pocket money dependent on it!
Outside the Coffee Shop
Cody and Brett are discussing Debbie's potential bulimia.
CODY: Look at the facts. She hardly ever eats in front of anybody, and when she does it's a pig- out. You can't do that and lose weight at the same time.
BRETT: Yeah, but don't these girls go off and throw up all the time? I've never seen Deb do that.
CODY: They get pretty clever about it. She's got a shocking self- image, she's always going on about how fat and how ugly she is.
BRETT: But she's not.
CODY: We know that, but she doesn't.
BRETT: Well, I reckon we should tell her folks.
CODY: No! You know Julie will get all hysterical and that's not going to help Debbie feel any better about herself.
BRETT: Well, what do we do?! We tell the doctors?
CODY: Maybe? But, then, bulimics are like alcoholics, unless they admit that they've got a problem, you won't let you help them!
BRETT: So, we talk to Deb, make her see she's in trouble.
CODY: Yeah...
Cody is meeting Drew tonight, but they decide to go to the hospital before.
No.28
Doug hasn't been sleeping very well because he has to keep getting up to go to the loo. He tells Lou he wishes he'd been more sympathetic to Pam over her menopause.
Hospital
Cody and Brett have arrived.
BRETT: Deb...we know what's wrong with you.
DEBBIE: Yeah?
CODY: Yeah. Yeah, we found your stash and Hannah's been telling us how much you've been pigging out.
BRETT: But you're getting thinner.
CODY: Deb...are you bulimic?
DEBBIE: Hannah's going to have you believing in pixies next!
BRETT: Look, it's OK, there's nothing wrong with telling us, we're your friends.
CODY: Yeah. We just want to help.
DEBBIE: OK. Look, I've had a few problems, you know? With Andrew and Year 12 and I haven't been eating right.
CODY: That's an understatement.
DEBBIE: But, I'm OK now. Really. I'm going to start eating properly and looking after myself. I might even try your Qigong.
BRETT: Yeah?
DEBBIE: Yeah, if it worked for Gran, it can't do me any harm!
CODY: That's good.
DEBBIE: Um...you didn't tell mum and dad about what you found, did you?
BRETT: No.
DEBBIE: Oh, good, because it'd only upset them, and there's no need. OK?
BRETT: Er...do you want me to pick up some assignments from school so you don't fall behind while you're in here.
DEBBIE: Oh, no, don't worry. I'm going to relax while I can!
No.24
The roster is up on the fridge and it seems to be working. Brett says it's similar to what they had at boarding school and he likes it.
Lou goes off for a shower and Danni tells Brett off for sucking up to Lou.
DANNI: I don't like being told what to do.
BRETT: Oh, what a rebel(!)
Brett tells her make an effort, like she promised. Just then, Lou comes back out and tells Danni that she's ticked off jobs she hasn't done. She petulantly tells him that he's not her dad!
No.26
Hannah wants Phil to get a psychic detective in to get rid of the poltergeist. He is dubious(!)
Phil and Julie are off to visit Debbie in the hospital.
Pub
Cody is having a drink with Drew. He invites her to go to Hawaii with him in December, but she doesn't want to.
DREW: Why not? You can call it an early graduation present.
CODY: ...
DREW: Look, it'll be alright. You know, I can afford it. Besides, the way we feel about each other...
CODY: You're getting married to somebody else for heaven's sake!
DREW: I explained all that, now didn't I!
CODY: Assuming I give you your divorce papers, that is.
DREW: OK, OK, look, look, look. What if I were to buy you a place here, hmm? You go to college, have no money worries and I can come out and see you whenever I could.
CODY: I don't think so!
DREW: Why are you being so difficult?!
CODY: Do you honestly think that you can buy me?!
DREW: No! But that is not what this is all about, now is it?
CODY: Oh, I think it is. I just don't know *why* yet.
DREW: I told you, Cody...I just want to make things up to you.
Cody scoffs.
DREW: Look, I didn't come all the way out here now to lose you. I think you're special.
CODY: You are so full of it, it's coming out of your ears! Look, I'm not for sale. Not to you, not to anybody, OK?
She gets up and leaves.
Hospital
Debbie is packing her bag to come home when Julie and Phil arrives. Phil guides her back to bed and says she's not ready yet, despite her protestations that she's fine.
Julie pulls Phil aside and wonders if there's something wrong with Debbie's metabolism.
DEBBIE: Mum, I'm OK, really, I just got a bit stressed out, that's all. I'm going to take it easy, I promise.
JULIE: I don't know.
DEBBIE: Dad, please?
PHIL: ...Helen's going to be home most of the time, she'd keep an eye on her...
DEBBIE: Yeah, I'd do what I'm told. I'll even eat all of my meals, as long as you don't feed me spinach(!)
JULIE: Well...you certainly seem to be a lot brighter.
DEBBIE: Please? I just want to get on with things, OK?
PHIL: Yes, alright.
Pub
Rick gives Drew his tip back saying he "doesn't take tips from scum"(!)
RICK: She deserves better, you know.
DREW: Probably, but she doesn't know the whole story. It's...complicated. I guess I just made things worse.
RICK: Yeah? How's that?
DREW: Look, man. I couldn't explain it her and I'm not going to try to explain it to you.
RICK: Cool. Suit yourself.
He goes back to the bar. Drew follows him over.
DREW: You're good friends with Cody, right?
RICK: Yes, yes, we're pretty good mates.
DREW: Look, do me a favour. Well, not me, really, her.
RICK: I'm listening.
DREW: Stick by her, alright? I mean, things can get very messy around here, she's going to need a good friend.
Rick looks a bit worried.
Hospital
The doctor doesn't want to release Debbie to go home until she's had the test results - they still don't know what caused Debbie's malnutrition. Phil insists that they feed Debbie properly at home, but the doctor is more concerned about the atmosphere at home lately.
DEBBIE: Oh, I do, I want to go home.
DOCTOR: Well...given what I know now, I'd say you're a candidate for an eating disorder. Anorexia, bulimia...
JULIE: I'm sure it's nothing that serious, doctor. We take good care of our children.
DEBBIE: Mum, it's not your fault. Look, I got myself into all sorts of emotional knots, you know? I just wasn't looking after myself.
PHIL: Maybe you should stay.
DEBBIE: No. But when I fainted, it scared me. I'm not going to do anything like that again.
DOCTOR: I wish I could be certain.
DEBBIE: You can. (To Julie) Tell her.
JULIE: Doctor, if Debbie would be happier at home...
PHIL: We'll take good care of her.
DOCTOR: I can't force you to accept treatment. But I want to talk to you again when the test results come in.
DEBBIE: OK, whatever you say.
Ramsay Street
Cody is telling Doug about Drew. She's not sure why he's even in Australia - he could have done the divorce through a solicitor.
When he's gone off in his ute, a car arrives in Ramsay Street. It's a man looking for Cody Willis.
CODY: That's me.
JUAN ESPOSITO: I'm Juan Esposito, I work with your husband. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this, but...
CODY: Do what?
JUAN ESPOSITO: I think we need to talk.
No.26
Lou apologies to Danni for acting like her father. He explains that it's hard with Cheryl in hospital, but someone in a household has to be the boss.
LOU: What I would like is for us all to co- operate and work together, that's why I made up a roster. To avoid arguments.
BRETT: Yeah, well, it's no problem for me.
LOU: Danni?
DANNI: Yeah, yeah, OK.
No.28
Juan tells Cody that Drew is a very promising politician, and they want to avoid a scandal. Ohio is very conservative and they want his and Cody's marriage hushed up.
CODY: After all these lies and everything, what makes you think I'd *want* to keep quiet? This man should be exposed!
Juan says that Cody should protect herself from the press - if she tries to hurt Drew, it could rebound on her.
JUAN ESPOSITO: My advice, Miss Willis, is for you to keep a very low profile.
Doctor's Office
Doug is surprised that Dr Dawson isn't there - he's going to see Dr Powlaski instead. Doug sees her coming out with her previous patient and she's clearly formidable, so Doug does a runner! (Well, as much as he can on his crutches!)
Ramsay Street
Cody is shooting basketball hoops in the street. Brett invites her to come to see Debbie, but Cody doesn't think she'd be a lot of help.
Hospital
Doug speaks to Doctor Sung and asks her if he can see a male doctor instead. She tries to reassure him, but he heads off.
No.26
Debbie is eating a sandwich when Brett comes to see her. She tells him she's fine.
BRETT: Bulimia's not something that goes away overnight.
DEBBIE: Who said that's what I have?
BRETT: Well, you've got all the classic symptoms.
DEBBIE: Oh, I keep forgetting you're a doctor.
BRETT: Covering up, keeping things to yourself. That's what got you into this mess to start off with.
DEBBIE: Look, I'm not in a mess, OK! I just got stressed out and over- tired, but tere's nothing wrong with me. Not even a cold, and especially not bulimia.
BRETT: I'm just worried about you.
DEBBIE: Yeah, you and half of Erinsborough. I wish you'd stop. I just want to forget about it and get my life back.
BRETT: OK. But if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'm here, alright, any time.
DEBBIE: Yeah, well, I won't, but thanks. See, I'm eating and everything.
BRETT: Alright, I'll head off.
DEBBIE: See ya.
When he's gone, Debbie puts her sandwich down and calls out to Julie. Julie doesn't answer, so Debbie quickly puts the rest of her sandwich into a plastic bag and hides it under a cushion.
Pub
Cody comes in and asks Rick if Drew has been in - she's looking for him.
RICK: What do you want him for, I thought he was history.
CODY: He will be soon(!)
She explains about the political angle and tells Rick that she's fed up of Drew's lies. She wants to get even.
