Outside No.28
Cody is very shocked to see Drew. She quickly bundles him back into the taxi before her parents can see him, getting in with him.
Across the street, Hannah has seen them.
No.28
Gaby and Doug have seen Cody going off in the taxi with the mystery man. Gaby thinks the bloke was dishy.
No.26
Debbie isn't eating much again and says she had something when she got up. Michael gets off the phone and tells them that the Brosnan Centre has accepted him - but he has to be there tomorrow.
MICHAEL: Danni's really special to me and I don't want to leave her. But anyway, that's history and I just want you all to know that this place seems alright and I'm sure I'll be able to handle it.
Hannah has been trying to get in for a while and says things have come true - Michael going camel riding in the Outback and Cody meeting a tall, dark handsome man. She lets slip about the s´ance and they make a sharp exit!
Outside the pub
CODY: She was my best friend and you just decided to have a fling with her! Just for the fun of it! How do you think that made me feel?!
DREW: Now, look. I'm not looking for an excuse, OK? But, the affair was Jessica's idea.
CODY: Oh, I thought it was all her fault(!) She seduced you by force, did she?!
DREW: Now, look, I didn't say that, alright? I'm sorry. I made a huge mistake and I'm sorry. But actually, that's the main reason why I've come here.
CODY: Oh, right, hi Drew. As far as I'm concerned you are dead(!) I want you on the next plane out of here.
DREW: So, do your folks know about us?
CODY: They know what happened, I told them the facts.
DREW: Look. I'd like to make it up to you, OK? No obligation on your part. I just don't want to be the enemy anymore.
CODY: I know how your mind works, Drew. What's the real reason you're here?
Just then, Gaby interrupts them and introduces herself to Drew.
DREW: She's told me so much about you! And all complimentary things I might add.
GABY:(surprised) Really? Wish I could say the same.
She looks at Drew expectantly.
CODY:(to Gaby). We're talking.
GABY: Fine.
She takes the hint and heads off.
DREW: Wait, hold on, I mean, I'm here for a few days, we'll get to that. I'd actually like to get to know your big sister a little more.
Gaby comes back.
DREW: From what Cody tells me, you guys have a very impressive family.
GABY: Well, we' like to think so! Why don't you join me for a coffee in the office.
DREW: Sounds great!
Cody glowers at him.
No.24
Michael has come to see Danni.
MICHAEL: I'm leaving tomorrow morning.
DANNI: Tomorrow morning?
MICHAEL: Dad's taking me first thing. I know, I didn't want it to be so soon, but it's going to be harder leaving you the longer I stay.
DANNI: I don't want you to go at all.
MICHAEL: It's only for maybe four weeks.
DANNI: But it won't be just four weeks. You're going to get good at this. You really want to go? Brett says you can finish school there if you want to.
MICHAEL: Even if I do stay, there'll be holidays. And I'll write every week.
DANNI: It's not the same. I need you.
Michael kisses her gently on the forehead.
MICHAEL: Look at it this way. At least it'll make your mother happy and it'll help her get better, faster.
DANNI: I suppose there's still today. And tonight I'll cook dinner, just for us.
MICHAEL: Do you really think they're going to let us eat dinner together?
DANNI: Lou and Brett will be at the hospital with mum. Yeah, it'll be like a special going- away dinner. I think I've got some candles somewhere.
MICHAEL: While you're checking out the romantic lighting, I've still got other people to tell.
DANNI: Well, don't be gone too long. I want to make the most of every minute you're still here.
They kiss, and Michael heads off.
No.26
Julie is not happy about the s´ance saying Hannah is at an impressionable age. Debbie says it was only a bit of fun and Julie should stop picking on her. Helen is measuring Debbie for her prom dress and observes that Debbie has lost an inch around the waist since last week. She asks if Debbie is dieting to impress Andrew, but Debbie says she thinks Andrew is a jerk now.
No.28
Doug is delighted to hear that Michael has got in to the building school. He gives Michael his prized hammer, as his own boys aren't interested in building. Michael is quite touched.
The Office
Gaby, Cody and Drew are having a cup of tea.
GABY: I don't believe I caught your name.
CODY: No, that's right, you didn't(!)
DREW: It's Drew. Drew Grover.
Gaby is stunned.
GABY: Drew Grover? Cody's old boyfriend from the States?
DREW: I thought you had figured that out.
GABY: No, I hadn't. (To Cody) This is him?!
CODY: Yes, Mr Sleazebag himself.
GABY: You're lucky you're not *wearing* that cup of coffee! If there's one thing I hate it's cheating boyfriends!
DREW: Why do you keep calling me a boyfriend? (To Cody) You haven't told her, have you.
GABY: Told me what?
DREW: I'm not just her boyfriend, I'm her husband. Cody and I are married!
Gaby is shocked.
No.26 (Tree- house)
Phil is trying to reason with Hannah about her premonitions. He suggests she could talk to an expert about it (if he can find one)
The Office
GABY: How could you get married without telling anyone?!
CODY: Because it was nobody else's business, alright?
DREW: Cody's right, you know!
GABY: You keep out of it! (To Cody) You're still at school!
CODY: You are *not* my mother.
GABY: Yes, well, I'm the next best thing while Mum's away!
CODY: Look, Drew, you're going to have to go, cos I'm going to have to talk to Gaby by myself.
GABY: Not so fast!
CODY: Gaby!
GABY: WHAT?! It's just as much his fault as it is yours!
DREW: Oh, look, it wasn't a mistake! Cody knew exactly what she was getting in to.
GABY: Well, I'd like to know why the hell you didn't *tell* any of us?! I'm sure my father would too. I think you'd better come around our house tonight.
CODY: NO!
GABY: Cody!
CODY: No!
GABY: Cody, you can't just ignore this! (To Drew) Eight o'clock?
DREW: Eight o'clock on the dot.
GABY: Good.
DREW:(to Cody) I promise to set all this straight, alright?
He leaves.
CODY: Just because you are in charge around here, it doesn't make you managing director of *my* life!
GABY: Where did you get married? Was it in a church, in a Registry Office?
CODY: What?
GABY: Well, think about it, is this marriage legal?
CODY:(angry) Oh, no, like it was in a casino and a pink little chapel where you just drive in and pay ten bucks for a licence and the next thing you know, you're hitched!
GABY: You can't be serious.
CODY: NO!
GABY: So, what happened, then?!
CODY: It was in a church, across the State Line. There were witnesses, it was all proper. Even bought myself an outfit.
GABY: I just don't understand how you could do a stupid thing like this, it's just not like you!
CODY: Because I was in love with Drew! He wanted marriage. People do these things, Gaby, like having a baby on their own!
GABY:(annoyed) I thought about this for weeks, it wasn't a ridiculous decision made in the heat of the moment!
CODY: Oh, right. I'm out of here!
GABY: Cody!
Cody stalks out.
No.24
Michael and Danni are looking at photos of their time together.
DANNI: Your mother's aged twenty years since I've been seeing you.
MICHAEL: Hmm, we haven't made it easy for them. It's funny how nothing else seems to matter, though, when I'm with you.
They look forward to their special dinner tonight.
No.28
Doug has now been told about the Cody/Drew marriage.
DOUG: Was it illegal? Were you in some sort of trouble?
GABY: Come on, Dad!
DOUG: Well, I'd like to know the whole story, Cody!
GABY: Well, there's no use us going round and round like this is there?
There's a knock at the door and Gaby urges Doug to remain calm.
Drew comes in with a bottle of wine.
CODY: Uh, Drew, this is my dad, Doug Willis.
DREW: Mr Willis, it's a pleasure to meet you.
DOUG: There are a few things I'd like to discuss with you.
DREW: Yes, Mr Willis, I know how this must look, but there were very unusual circumstances involved. Now, if you allow me to explain myself you might get to see the light a little bit.
DOUG: Try me(!)
DREW: Look, I've done the wrong thing. I'm guilty as charged. However, things back in the States were a little different than they are here. However, right now, the bottom line's the same for all of us.
DOUG: And what is the bottom line?
DREW: A divorce.
DOUG: Oh, terrific(!) Marriage, now a divorce? What other surprises have you got for us, Cody?!
No.26
Debbie is picking on Hannah again about setting the table. They are laying the table for a farewell dinner with Michael.
Michael comes in and is surprised to see the hive of activity.
MICHAEL: What's all this?!
PHIL: This is your surprise farewell dinner!
Apparently Julie has been working very hard in the kitchen. Michael asks if he can make a quick phone- call(!)
Pub
Drew and Doug are having a beer.
DOUG: I just want to hear your side of the story without those two busting in.
DREW: Yes, sir.
DOUG: Let's talk.
DREW: The fact of the matter is, it was a marriage of convenience.
DOUG: Whose convenience?
DREW: It wasn't like that. My parents were about to lose their property, you see, and Cody and I were getting on so well...it seems like the ideal answer.
DOUG: How did you two getting married help your parents?
DREW: Sorry. My parents had some really bad legal advice. They have their back taxes re- assessed, which would wipe them out. So, I put the house into Cody's name, which got them off the hook. But, it being the type of marriage that it was, I didn't take it too seriously. Which wasn't right on my part. And Cody felt a lot differently towards me, as I found out too late.
DOUG: We wondered why she came home so suddenly.
DREW: The thing of it was, I assumed it was convenient for her too. I mean, she talked about staying in the States and marrying me would have given her a Green Card.
DOUG: You should have made sure how she felt before you assumed anything.
DREW: Yes, yes, you're right, I misread the situation completely. Now all I want to do is just make it up to her.
DOUG: Talk to Cody about it, not me. Have your parents sorted out their problems?
DREW: Yes, they have, yes they have, it's all behind them now. And, if we can manage this divorce so as we can end good friends, I'd be a very happy man.
No.24
MICHAEL: I couldn't say no after all the trouble they'd been to! And there is no way they'd have let me see you instead.
Danni is disappointed, but she understands. They talk about Cheryl, who is doing OK. Danni says he still has to eat her dinner - all five courses!
They lie down on the sofa and kiss. Then Danni says she's got a Top 40 of their favourite songs together, like grunge and the Honey Pigs. They kiss again.
No.26, 6am the following morning
Michael is packed and ready to go.
PHIL: You nervous?
MICHAEL: I didn't think I would be, but yeah.
PHIL: You'll be fine.
Michael has a last look around and then exits the house. Phil is giving him a lift to the airport.
Just then, Danni comes along.
PHIL: What are you doing up so early?
DANNI: Saying goodbye to the man in my life. You don't mind, do you?
Phil makes himself scarce.
DANNI: You won't forget me, will you?
MICHAEL: I could never forget you.
DANNI: Just in case.
She holds something up.
MICHAEL: It's your favourite earring.
DANNI: Please?
Michael takes the earring about puts it in his left ear. (Eurgh, not very hygienic!)
MICHAEL: I love you.
He kisses her.
PHIL: Got to go, mate!
He gets in the car and Phil reverses out, then drives away. Danni sobs a little.
Lassiter's Lake
Macca is working on the council project when Debbie comes along.
DEBBIE: I'm not here bugging you, I just want to sort something out.
MACCA: Debbie...what's to sort out?
DEBBIE: I can make you happy, I know I can!
MACCA: No, you can't.
DEBBIE: Look, you're not being fair, you hardly even know me! How can you say it won't work for us?
MACCA: I'm absolutely certain. Do you want to know why I'm absolutely certain?
She nods.
MACCA: I'm gay, Debbie!
Debbie is shocked.
