She asks Doug about the Felicity Brent job he's doing and he tells her it's very slow as Felicity is overbearing. She tells him to keep it strictly business. Cody comes out of her room saying it's nearly 6pm and runs to the tape recorder, takes out Adam's tape and puts hers in. Adam is annoyed but Pam tells him to leave it as She and Todd promised to listen to the same thing at the same time every night. She only tells him when he promises not to laugh – it's a song she and Todd used to listen to and the promised to listen to it at 6pm every day so they could think about each other. He tells her it's romantic except there's a half hour time difference so they're not really doing it at the same time. She's horrified and says she'll have to play it again. Doug moans in disbelief. He tries to reason with her saying he'd rather not listen to it all the time. He gives her a portable tape player so she can listen to it in her room. She heads to her room. He asks her why they picked the song body heat. She gets annoyed and runs off. Pam makes him finish the onions off.

He tells her to leave it. Amber feels completely responsible. Matt tells her to shut up and that she'll be fine. Madge enters. She just shakes her head, Amber realises she's died and breaks down. Matt is shocked. Tobes runs out and Madge hides her tears and tells him that Joe is with Harold and will be home soon. He asks if Kerry is still in jail. Matt gets him to leave again. Matt asks if he should tell the kids the truth. Madge says it's a bad idea and best to leave it to Joe. Madge says he's in a bad way.
Harold and Joe sit in stunned silence. Joe cries uncontrollably. He says he doesn't know how to feel. Harold tries to reassure him. Joe thinks of Toby and wants to tell him but Harold sits him down. He doesn't know what to tell the kids saying they won't understand. Harold doesn't understand. He says she was bright and alive that morning, but now she's gone. Joe says he wishes it was a dream and that she will wake him up. Harold says there's no reason that it's happened. He can't believe it's possible. Madge returns. She tells them everything is ok with the kids. Joe asks if they know. Madge says they don't. He says he'll do it now to get it out of the way. Madge says it's a bad idea as he's in not state to tell them.
Dinner's ready. Pam snaps at Adam but apologises. Bodyheat is driving everyone up the walls. The song stops and everyone is thankful for the peace. Adam suggest a distraction for Cody to keep her busy. He can't acutaly think of any off the top of his head though. The song starts again and Pam tells him to make it quick.
Matt is reading to Kerry. Toby is being a pain and won't do what he's told, saying he doesn't have to. Matt tries to reason with him. Amber loses her temper and tells him to do as he's told or he'll get a smack. She apologises but he's twigged something's the matter and asks when Kerry's coming home. Joe arrives gives him a hug. Harold is with him. He calls the kids over and they ask about Kerry and when she'll be out of jail. Matt explains Toby's thinking and Joe tells them that's now how it is. Amber thinks they should wait but Harold says now is the time.
TOBY: What's happened to Mum?
Joe looks shell shocked.

Doug says they should have them over for a BBQ. Pam wants to get to know Kerry better. Cody and Adam arrive but she's not too hungry. Cody accidently pours the sauce onto the potato. Adam makes another remark. Doug tries to talk to her and suggests she could make some tapes to send to Todd instead of writing to him. Adam says she can borrow the walkman. Cody asks why they're all being so nice to her. Adam says he knows what she's going through and that it's the pits to break up. She yells they've not broken up and goes off in a huff. Doug asks if there's anything worse than a lovesick teenager. Pam says there is – a son who won't give her a break.
Joe is starring at his beer as Amber and Matt watch. Matt tries to get him to stop drinking but Joe doesn't hear him. Matt offers to take time off work to help him. Joe thanks him. Matt says he's very sorry and doesn't know what to say. He can't believe she's gone. Amber says she knows it's hard to see anything good out of Kerry's death, but at least she lived a life doing what she believed in and to die for it. Joe is enraged at this and tells Amber it's all her fault. He throws her out and Matt hugs him as he is numb in shock.
