Joe thinks Mary has been conning him.
Mary says that she hasn't been taken advantage of JOe - things came back to her gradually. She says she would have told him eventually, but wanted to spend a bit more time with Joe and his family - her son won't let her do anything. Apparently he started giving Mary pills all the time and she got very confused. When Joe and Toby picked Mary up, she was only too glad to see them. Mary felt part of a real family again and wante dto stay with them. Joe tells her sympathetically that she can stay on for a bit until they work out what to do.
MARY: I wish you really were my son.
Joe says there might be something Mary can do for him in return.

Joe suggests that Mary could do some darning for him and she enthusiastically agrees. There's a knock at the door and Joe goes to answer it. Katie and Joe whisper about their biscuit trade.

Paul and Gail's
Gail tells Paul that if he needs any help he should call her in to the office. Kerry calls round and tells them that she's going to be selling red clown noses for the cot death appeal and asks if she can collect at Lassiter's. Paul agrees.
Gail makes Kerry a coffee and tells her that she's not going to work because she's so forgetful. Kerry says that she was the same during her pregnancy. She suggests that Gail spends some time around kids and suggests that Gail could babysit this morning while she and Des are looking at reception places.
Joe and Mary are discussing horses. Mary is obviously an expert on the subject. He asks her for her opinions on the races then gives Mary some money to go to the betting shop. She is chuffed to bits.
Todd and Katie are selling Mary's biscuits. Mike sees them and tells them to go back to the primary school. Katie gives him a biscuit and asks him to buy some(!) so under pressure, Mike does.
Sharon comes up and tells Nick that he shouldn't have been so aggro with Matt. She says that Matt isn't trying to show him up and Nick should give him a break. Nick isn't impressed.

Joe is trying to give his mate a tip on the horses but he's not interested.
There's a knock on the door and it's a boy with a skateboard looking for Toby. He says he's come to get some more biscuits - the ones that Toby sells at school. The penny drops and Joe says that the biscuit factory has been closed down!
Joe has a right go at Toby and Katie over the biscuit selling enterprise and tells them they're rip-off merchants. He tells them they should be ashamed of themselves. Toby says they were saving up to buy Mary a dress of her own. Joe is quite touched. The kids have already bought the dress and present it to Mary when she comes in. She is very pleased.
Mary tells Joe that none of his horses won, but her own did!
Sharon tells Matt that Nick is still irrationally upset with him.
Paul and Gail's
Gail is trying to clean Sky's handiwork off the walls when Paul comes in. The place is a tip and Gail is frustrated - kids are like army ants and she felt so hopeless. She doesn't know how she's going to cope with three kids. Paul says they'll both learn what to do soon enough. Paul asks Gail to manage the gift shop until they can get a new manager. Gail isn't sure, but agrees.
Everyone is writing furiously. Everyone except for Nick that is. Matt passes Nick some answers but Nick tells him to forget it. Mike is invigilating and sees them passing a paper (it has equations on it). He comes over and reads the paper. He tells Nick and Matt that they've both failed.
