Nick tells Hilary that it's not what she thinks - they weren't doing anything wrong. Hilary says that Sharon is out of bounds to him and she's going to keep them apart permanently. Nick wants to know what's wrong with him anyway.
When Nick has gone, Sharon shouts at Hilary but she's unmoved - she agrees with Mrs Chubb's view of Nick. Hilary says Sharon is grounded until she can behave herself.
Robinsons, the following morning
Madeleine comes out in her dressing gown to find Jim telling Nick he'd better keep away from Sharon. Todd and Katie want Jim to help them apologise to Hilary about the funny photo competition and drag him off. Nick asks him to put in a good word for him too, but Helen tells him that one man can't work miracles(!)
Scott comes in and Madeleine tells him they have to get straight to work, the police sergeant who worked on her father's case has agreed to an interview. Scott is wary because of what happened with Mac, but says he definitely wants to talk to him.
Jim, Todd and Katie knock on Hilary's door. They tell her they've come to apologise for the picture. Hilary is unmoved and Jim tells her she's overreacting. They start to bicker and Hilary slams the door. Jim, Todd and Katie walk away sadly.
Police Sergeant's house
Madeleine is quizzing the police officer. He says that the girl wasn't dead when the police arrived and what's more, Madeleine's father confessed to him that he killed him. But after talking to his lawyer he changed his whole story. Madeleine starts shouting that he's a liar.
Sharon has come round to see Nick - she says she's got an idea - they could get Harold to talk to Hilary for them. Nick says that Harold hates him too and won't go into bat for him. But he agrees to try anyway. They agree to meet in an hour down at the lake.
When Nick has gone, Helen says she's not taking sides but Hilary is making the rules and Sharon has to respect them.
Jane has come to see Mike (Jenny is lying down). Jane is surprised to see Mike cooking but he says it changes you when you've got someone to look after. Mike asks if Jane is sorry that she didn't marry Mark. She says she isn't sorry, but admits she's not over Des and says maybe she should have stuck with Mike after all(!)
Todd and Katie are making a cake when Madeleine and Scott charge in. Madeleine says that Scott won't make a good reported if he can't spot a liar. Scott doesn't think he was lying, but Madeleine rants at him and tells him to keep his opinions to himself.
Jim, Todd and Katie knock on the door of No.30 again. They give her flowers and a cake. Unfortunately Jim trips on the step and his face goes in the cake. They all start laughing but Jim does not look amused.
Scott is fed up. He tells Helen what happened with the police sergeant and how Madeleine went mental. She won't take his evidence for the book and Scott is very concerned - she's writing a whitewash. Helen says Madeleine has a hidden agenda - proving her father's innocence whatever the truth is. Scott thinks about this and says he must make Madeleine face the facts. Helen says he must stand up for his principles.
Jim has washed himself out and they are all getting on much better. Todd says she's a local star for the photo, not a laughing stock. They agree to forgive and forget. Sharon tells Hilary that she's off to a friend's house to work on a project.
Sharon and Nick meet up. Harold was no help to Nick at all when he asked him to have a word with Hilary. Sharon thinks Nick will go off with someone else while she's stuck at home. He tells her to close her eyes and he gives her a present. It's a beautiful necklace that belonged to his grandmother. Sharon is very touched and says they'll stick together forever no matter what anyone says.
Madeleine asks Scott to go over some notes so Helen makes herself scarce. Scott tells Madeleine that she's obviously not happy with his work and she might be better working with someone else. He says he wants to quit because of her questionable journalistic methods. Madeleine says that Mac and the police sergeant are out to get her father. But Scott says what she's doing isn't honest. Madeleine suddenly becomes very cold and asks if Scott is calling her a liar. She says she knows a lot of people in the journalism industry and that she'll blacken his name to everyone if he leaves.
