Robinsons
Jim tells Lucy that if she says she didn't cheat, he believes her. Jim says he'll come with her when she goes back to school and sort it out between them. Lucy looks very relieved and hugs Jim.
While Lucy goes off to get her tennis racket, Beverly tells Helen and Jim that although Lucy didn't do it, it looks bad for her. Lucy overhears this and looks worried.
Mangels
Joe is drinking a beer and reading a book while Jane puts some flowers in a vase. Jane isn't looking forward to Mark's mother arriving, but Joe tells her to reserve judgement until she meets her.
Toby comes in and look a bit shifty. Joe asks him what's wrong but he says nothing.
Later at the Mangels
Joe answers the door to Edith Chubb who has come to complain about Toby. Apparently there's a hole in her knickers. Joe says it might be the way she sits(!). Toby comes in and looks sheepish. Apparently he was having a go at Todd's bow and arrow and he accidentally shot Mrs Chubb's laundry! Mrs Chubb doesn't believe him and Joe tells her to watch who she's calling a liar. Mrs Chubb rudely tells him that with Joe as a father she'd expect nothing else from Toby!
Mrs Chubb lets slip that she's talked to Nolene about Toby. Joe tells her to keep her stickybeak out but Mrs Chubb continues that she agrees with Nolene that Joe is unfit to be a father! She's willing to back Nolene up to the authorities too!
Robinsons
Lucy is still a bit down about the business at school. Todd and Lucy do the washing up and chat about the school stuff. Lucy can't see how she can clear her name, and Todd suggests she goes and sorts it out with the girl in question - she lives quite near to them.
Mangels
Joe is pacing around in intense anger. Jane tries to calm him down. Joe is furious that Edith Chubb is sticking her nose into his business. He insists that noone is going to take Toby off him.
Robinsons
Lucy has got the phone book out and is looking for the phone number of the girl (Carolyn). She calls and speaks to her mother and arranges to go around and see her tomorrow morning.
Mangels
Joe and Toby are eating breakfast in the sitting room. Jane comes in and complains about the state of the house - she only cleaned yesterday and now it's a tip again. Jane wants it to be tidy for when Mark's mother arrives tomorrow.
Jane answers the door to a smart lady - it's Mark's mother. Jane is in her pyjamas and the house is a nightmare!
Jane invites Mrs Granger to sit down and she looks rather stunned at her surroundings. She admits that she's been nervous about meeting Mrs Granger but Mrs Granger says that Mark speaks very highly of her.
A road
Lucy arrives at Carolyn's house. Carolyn's mother answers the door and invites Lucy in. Carolyn's mother goes off to work leaving Carolyn and Lucy alone.
Carolyn is not pleased to see Lucy but Lucy says they have to sort things out.
Mangels
Mrs Granger is talking about Long Island. Jane has changed and Joe has cleaned up a bit. Mrs Granger invites Jane to dinner and Joe invites himself along as well!
Mrs Granger's car arrives and she says she'll she Jane later and that she's looking forward to getting to know her better. She apologises for dropping by unannouned.
JOE: Ah well. It gave you the chance to see the real us.
MRS GRANGER: Yes, it certainly did!
When she's gone, Jane closes her eyes in horror, but Joe is oblivious.
Carolyn's house
Carolyn doesn't want to tell the truth - it would break her mother's heart. She says they're not rich and her dad walked out about four years ago - her Arlingwood scholarship is her only chance at a decent education. Someone stole Carolyn's assignment, so she had to steal Lucy's so she could get something in to be marked - if her marks slip she'll lose her scholarship to Arlingwood. She begs Lucy to help her.
