Paul and Gail's
Ian is apologizing for what just happened with Rob but a relentless Gail insists that it should be Rob who's apologizing. Paul suggests that Gail should run after Rob but Gail only wants to go upstairs to rest. Ian asks Paul if Rob usually reacts this way to ‘life's little problems' and Paul replies that sometimes he can fly off the handle a little but his reaction is understandable since he always thought that Gail was his little girl. Paul hopes that Gail won't be too hard on him but Ian says that he deserves everything he gets.
A fitness trainee is explaining to Scott and Pete how the special mats they're standing on measures the forces exerted when someone lands and takes off and how other video equipment will allow them to see what exactly is wrong with Pete's leg. Pete run's off to get ready for the sprint/jump while the institute trainers set up the equipment. Pete takes off and runs over the hurdles like instructed and then confides in Scott saying how he expects to be asked to go home any time now. Scott attempts to comfort him but Pete is still blaming him for the fact that everyone knows about his leg injury. Scott says it's probably for the best as they would have found out sooner or later. Pete says that he's a failure but Scott insists that he's going to ‘make it' and if he doesn't make it he really doesn't want to wait another four years.
Paul and Gail's
It's the middle of the night and Gail is pouring herself some hot milk when Ian comes over and asks if he could have one. Gail begins to tell Ian about how Rob used to read her a bedside story until she ‘dropped off' and says that he is probably feeling terrible about the way he left so he'll probably be round to apologize in the morning. However, Ian thinks that Rob is feeling insecure about everything after all these years but Gail tells Ian that he is her real father after all. Ian says that he feels sorry for Rob as he did bring Gail up and read her bed time stories although he does still want to be close to Gail. Gail clutches his hand and says that she wants to be close to him too. Awww
Madge and Harold's
Madge is telling Charlene how thoughtful Harold was this morning bringing the news paper in. Charlene gives her some breakfast she can have ‘on the way' but Madge wonders if Charlene is trying to get her out of the house early as she still has a while before she has to be at work but Charlene reminds her that she has to pick up Harold's vegetarian sausages. Madge thanks Charlene for reminding her and rushes out the door whilst assuring Charlene that Scott is coming home today so she shouldn't be so edgy. When Madge goes out the door Charlene ring's up Rob and explains that she won't be going into work today as she's feeling ‘crook'.
Rob comes in and asks Paul how Gail is doing and Paul responds saying that she has been door slamming and very angry which no one can hardly blame her for . Paul reminds him that he probably isn't Ian's favorite person but Rob says that he doesn't give a damn. Gail comes slamming in and demands that Rob go and apologize to Ian but Rob says that he was asking for trouble. Gail says that Ian has much better manners than he has. She doesn't want to make comparisons but she doesn't want to see him again until he apologizes to Ian. Ian storms off after saying that Gail will be waiting for the ‘cows to come home' before he apologises. Gail sits down trying to calm herself when Paul remarks how he thinks she was being hard on him but Gail thinks that he deserves it.
Charlene walks towards the river side over to Steve who is lying down on some decking. When Charlene arrives Steve asks whether her boss believed her story. Charlene seems hesitant, keeping her arms crossed, avoiding eye contact and talking quietly. Steve tells her that there's no point in having a day off if she's miserable but Charlene just tells him to ‘rack off'. She then goes walking across the decking and reminds Steve that Scott is coming back tonight, but she wouldn't be here if she didn't want to spend time with him. She says that she feels like ‘a rat' so Steve picks her up and teases her by swinging her over the water. Charlene is laughing and wants to be put down but Steve comments on how great it is to see a smile on her face.
Scott asks Pete how his leg is this morning but Pete says that it doesn't matter as he'll never make the team now. Scott says that him and Mike are going home later on and suggest that Pete should go with them but Pete tells him that he is yet to be ‘officially told'. Scott tells him that even if his leg is fine he's unlikely to be on the team because of his ‘lousy attitude' and he's letting down everyone else because of it. He should wait until the x-rays have come through before jumping to conclusions. Mike and Rachel come along and can tell that Pete is still annoyed with Rachel but Mike insists that she did the right thing in telling the coach about Pete's injury. Pete gives in and says there are no hard feelings.
Steve and Charlene are on a boat which Steve is moving with some paddles. Charlene tells him to put some muscle into it as they've only hired it for a day and he's been going round in circles for the last hour. Steve decides to challenge Charlene to paddle the boat so they change positions, as they do Steve goes into kiss Charlene but Charlene backs away which rocks the boat. She begins to paddle while Steve, who is laughing his head off at Charlene who obviously can't paddle, takes a rest.
Paul and Gail's
Ian opens the door to Rob who storms in. Ian says that he doesn't want any trouble but Rob just comments on how he is ‘sweet as pie' when Gail is around but he doesn't fool him! Rob tells Ian that he doesn't like him or the way he is trying to worm his way into Gail life but for her sake he is going to make an effort. Rob accuses Ian of wanting him out of Gail's life but Ian insists that he doesn't want that to happen but he's glad that some of Rob's manner's haven't rubbed off his daughter. Ian tells him that he has to face up to it – he is not Gail's father.
Scott and Pete are walking into the train station by the Institute while Scott is telling him that he needs a good angle for the story he is doing on him. Pete suggests, “Pete Baxter, the guy who almost made it”, which Scott doesn't seem impressed about. Pete wonders where Mike is but Scott thinks that he's probably snuggled with Rachel somewhere saying goodbye. The fitness trainer manages to catch them in time and let's Pete know that the x-rays show that he does have a fracture. Pete thinks that it's probably time to say goodbye to ever going to the Olympics but the trainer says not to give up hope and that he should stay at the institute, and they'll see how it heals. The trainer also wants to address another problem, his attitude. If he listens and follows advice then he has a good chance of joining the team, fracture or not. The trainer leaves and Pete suggests another headline for Scott, “Pete Baxter – gold medalist”.
The Coffee Shop
Gail and Paul are at a table when Rob comes in and asks to join them. Gail says that she is only going to talk to him if he's apologized to Ian, but Rob says he tried to but only ‘copped abuse'. Gail says that he has to apologize otherwise she's not going to talk to him, so they leave. Outside, Paul attempts to stick up for Rob but Gail says that he needs to stop treating Ian like an ‘outsider'.
Madge comes in and tells Rob that she hopes him and Gloria are very happy which Rob thanks her for. Rob goes to leave and asks Madge to give Charlene his love and suggests that maybe she should go and see a doctor because the flu going round seems ‘pretty nasty'. Madge seems surprised and tells Rob that she didn't seem her usual self this morning which she thought was excitement over Scott coming home but it must have been because she was ill.
Scott is trying to hurry Rachel and Mike who are saying goodbye to each other. Pete gives Rachel a kiss and thanks Rachel for helping him out as now he's staying at the institute. Mike takes aside Rachel and they discuss how it's been a great ‘holiday romance'. Rachel tells Mike to get over Jane and they kiss which Scott breaks up, attempting to get home as soon as possible to see Charlene. Apparently she is going to kill them if they miss that train!
Charlene and Steve are just getting of the boat they have just finished hiring, laughing and teasing each other about how naff they were a controlling it. Steve grabs Charlene's waist and goes into kiss her but Charlene moves away. Steve has wanted to kiss her all day and asks her if she's thinking about Scott. Avoiding the question she asks what time it is, ‘Crikey!' its three-thirty, Scott is going to be home soon. Charlene goes off running and Steve asks her if she wants any support for when she tells Scott how they feel about each other but Charlene says there's nothing to tell him.
STEVE: Make up your mind, is it Scott or me?
CHARLENE: You've asked me to decide and I have . . . Bye Steve.
STEVE: But what about me?
CHARLENE: What about you? It was just a silly mistake and I shouldn't have let it happen. If your going to be so heavy about it. I don't care if I never see you again!
