Des and Jane rush in and Mrs Mangel hits Des for checking for broken bones(!) She only recognises Jane out of all of them, but asks her where her glasses are. Also she thinks that Jane is 16 instead of 18. Des suggests that they take her to the hospital.
Scott and Charlene are messing about in a children's play area. They have a pash on the swings and tell each other that one day they'll be together. They run off under the climbing frame(!)
Madge is telling Helen that her engagement is off and Helen is very sympathetic. Jim is cross about Madge's decision to allow Scott and Charlene to move into the Ramsay house together. Jim says that Helen has overstepped the mark with her suggestion. He says that he's interested in Scott and Charlene's happiness too - but happiness in the long term. He wants Scott to have a career and not rush into things. Madge thinks what Jim says is sound and wishes that Harold had explained it in the same way, instead of being pompous.
Daphne and Mike are waiting for Des and Jane to get back from the hospital. Mike says it's his fault tha tthe accident happened because Bouncer is his dog and he should have looked after him better. He's glad it wasn't Daphne on the ladder - she could have lost the baby.
Jane comes in and tells them that they don't know if the memory loss is permanent or not - they're keeping Mrs Mangel in for observation. Mike cuddles her.
Madge and Charlene are discussing the ring incident and Madge tells her that the engagement is off. Madge starts to cry over the washing-up. She says that they only broke up over her and Scott moving in to the Ramsay house. Charlene is delighted for an instant, but Madge says that after speaking to Jim, she's changed her mind.
Jim and Scott are sulking, letting Helen talk to herself. Jim tells Scott that the principal has phoned and he's told him that he'll be back in school shortly. They start to shout at each other and Scott says he's not going back to school, he's going to get a job instead. Scott says that the insurance for his car will take months to come through. Jim says he'll make a few enquiries on his behalf, but not having a car won't help Scott to move out. Jim tells Scott that there is too much competition for jobs out there - it would put too much pressure on his relationship with Charlene. Jim asks him what happens if Charlene gets pregnant - his life will be thrown away. But Scott says he'll be throwing his life away if he can't be with Charlene.
Des is making breakfast. Daphne is feeling amorous and gives him a pash. Des is hoping that Mrs Mangel will forget what an old dragon she was and just remember the good bits of her personality(!)
The Coffee Shop
Mike is opening up the shop and Charlene and Scott sit at a table. Scott tells Charlene that he's got a job interview. Charlene does not look enthusiastic - she says explains that it's their fault that Madge has broken off her engagement with Harold. They agree that they'll have to wait for a while before they can move in together. Scott says that the one thing people can't take away is the way they feel about each other.
Mrs Mangel has gone missing from the hospital - Des, Daphne and Jane can't think where she could be.
Mrs Mangel walks confidently up to a house and takes the newspaper from the letterbox. She is confused that the garden is messy and says to herself that she'll get Len on to it straightaway. Her key won't fit the door. A woman comes to the door and Mrs Mangel demands to know what she's doing in her house!
Charlene is detailing a car when Jim comes up. She is frosty with him. She asks Jim why he hates her. Jim says he doesn't, he just doesn't want her and Scott to make a mistake. Charlene tells him that they've decided to wait awhile before moving in together. Jim asks her to persuade Scott to return to school and she agrees.
Mrs Mangel's Old House
Mrs Mangel is demanding that the woman gets out of her house. The woman is trying to explain that Mrs Mangel sold the house to her last year. Luckily Jane, Des and Daphne run up at that moment and lead Mrs Mangel off. Mrs Mangel is upset and confused. The woman asks Des if he's Mrs Mangel's doctor, but he says no, he's a bank manager(!)
Scott comes in and hugs Helen - he is very cheerful. He's managed to get a job as a kitchenhand at Lassiters. Helen says that it won't pay much but Scott says it's a start. Helen's reaction is diplomatic, but she clearly doesn't think it's a good idea.
Des, Daphne and Jane have brought Mrs Mangel home. She can't believe that No.32 is her house. She also has a persistent headache which she can't shake. They explain to her that the doctors think she's lost two years of her memory. Mrs Mangel asks if Len is off on one of his business trips and Jane agrees vaguely that he is. Mrs Mangel thinks that Des and Daphne are a bit strange(!) Jane leads Mrs Mangel off to have a liedown. But she can't remember the way to her bedroom. She starts to cry and begs Jane not to leave her on her own.
