Madge tells Ray that it's over - she won't make the same mistake with him that she made with Fred.
Ray tells Madge that even if he does remind her of Fred, if she took another look she'd realise they he and Fred are not alike at all. He tells her she can either stick her head in the sand or pick herself up and dust herself off. Ray tells Madge that since he first set eyes on her he's known she was someone special. Madge says she feels the same, but everything is moving too fast.
Ray lightens the mood by saying he can be slow and moves in slow motion! He asks Madge to think about it. She relents and says she will think about it while she's in Adelaide.
Madge is still worried about leaving Charlene on her own for two weeks while she does the course. She decides to ring Paul and tell him she's changed her mind.
Laura tells Jim that she and Helen are going to go shopping today. Helen gets off the phone and says her old friend Grace Barnet has turned up out of the blue and is staying at Lassiters! Helen has invited her over for lunch, but Laura says Grace was more Helen's friend that hers, so she'll go shopping instead. But Helen won't hear of this. She invites Jim to stay and meet her too.
HELEN: Grace Barnet! It's been so many years.
LAURA: Yes. Yes, it has, hasn't it?
Charlene is trying to talk Madge into going on the course saying that Madge doesn't trust her. She eventually talks Madge around saying that she's already agreed with Madge that she'll study hard this year. She walks off.
Madge admits to Ray that she's terrified about the course, but Ray says that Madge has been through so much, the course will be easy. Eventually Madge changes her mind (again!!) and decides to go on the course. Charlene overhears and is very pleased.
Helen is waiting for Grace to turn up, but Jim has to go to work. Helen tells Jim that she, Bill and Grace grew up together in the country - and Grace was more a member of the family than a friend.
Just then Grace arrives and Helen hugs her tightly. Helen introduces Jim and Scott who's just come in. Laura comes in and greets Grace somewhat coolly.
Grace says she doesn't know how long she'll be around yet, she's "foot-loose and fancy-free" these days.
Helen, Grace and Laura are having a cup of tea and enormous slices of cake(!) Grace is telling them about her travel experiences.
HELEN: I could never understand why you left so suddenly! You, Bill and I were such friends!
Laura looks at Grace knowingly, but Grace says she just wanted to travel. Helen tells Grace that she's missed her so much and they have a lot of catching up to do. Laura still looks troubled.
Madge is giving Charlene last-minute instructions and generally panicking about leaving (her flight is at 5pm). She goes to see Helen to ask if she'll keep an eye on Charlene.
RAY: At least she worries about you, love. Better that than the other way round.
CHARLENE: How soon's five o'clock?!
Shane is unloading some plants and tells Scott that he's going freelance - he's storing some plants at Lassiters.
Madge is asking Helen to check up on Charlene and she agrees. Helen says that Madge will be wonderful on the management course. Madge says as long as there are no computers involved she'll be fine! Helen says that she's really pleased to see Grace - it's like 30 years haven't gone by at all. Helen tells Madge that she's seriously thinking of going to New York to see Rosemary - it would give Jim and Ruth some time to spend together.
When Madge has gone, Laura joins Helen in the future. Helen starts reminiscing about Bill saying she couldn't have wished for a better husband. She determines to visit his grave and have a chat - she hasn't been there for ages.
Shane is bringing in some more plants. Ray is impressed at their quality. Ray tells Shane that Madge has left some ground rules for Charlene - she has to study, not have friends round and be in bed by 10pm! Charlene claims this is just a guideline(!) but Shane says the rules will be rigidly enforced! Ray wishes Shane luck!
Outside the pub
Jim and Ruth are having a quiet drink. They are getting on well and holding hands. Jim tells Ruth that he was quite flattered that she wanted to stay so much that she lied to him! (not sure how that works, Jim!) Ruth says she doesn't want to spoil his relationship with his family, but Jim says the kids love her. Ruth isn't sure - they might love her as a guest, but might not accept her as something more permanent. Jim invites her to dinner tonight so they can tell everyone.
Charlene tells Scott that she's got two whole weeks of freedom without Madge. He is very pleased and is looking forward to some quality time with Charlene(!) Charlene offers to cook him dinner tonight.
Madge's cases are packed and she's fussing over everything. She hugs Charlene and Shane goodbye. When she's gone, Shane takes his shoes off and puts them on the sofa. Charlene gets some wine out and pours herself a glass(!)
Helen walks through the deserted graveyard with some flowers. She reaches Bill's grave and is surprised to find there are already some flowers on it. A card with them reads, "To my dearest Bill, with everlasting love."
