- Jim gives Helen a bridging loan for the cottage.
- Barbara visits Terry and claims to have left Charles.
- Daphne is suspicious of Barbara's motives.
- Charles terrorises Terry on the phone. Shane comes round unexpectedly and Terry flings herself into his arms.
Max has managed to make some pasties for dinner. Scott and Danny look at them very suspiciously(!) Scott and Danny have been rehearsing for their audition.
The phone rings and it's Shane calling from No.30. He tells Max that he's staying out tonight - he's staying with a friend. Max tells him not to be ashamed(!) Shane says it's all above board.
Shane is not impressed that he's had to lie to his family to protect Terry. He thinks Terry should go to the police, or Paul, at least. He'll stay one more night, but that's it. Terry starts to cry and says that she thought Shane was her friend - after all, he was the one who helped her when she first came to Ramsay Street.
SHANE: The best friend you've got is Paul! Just keep remembering that.
Scott is chatting to the paperboy about the audition. As he does so, he catches sight of Shane coming out of Terry's house. He is shocked.
Max has made kedgeree for breakfast, much to Danny's amazement(!)
Scott starts to tell Jim about Shane, but Jim says it's none of his business.
Danny and Max are washing up and discussing how much board Danny will be paying(!) now he's earning. Shane rushes in to iron his clothes for work.
Danny is just off to the bank. Scott says that he can't make the audition this afternoon - he can't concentrate. Danny is not impressed and tells him he'd better be there or else.
Ramsays - lunch time
Danny has popped home to change for his audition. Danny has his first pay packer - $138.25 after taxes. Max has been doing some calculations on the household bills. Danny turns a bit white when he sees it - it's $109 a week! That leaves Danny with $25.29 a week - he's worse off that he was at school!
A lady comes to the door looking for Jim - she's come to apply for the housekeeper position. She's not impressed to see Scott wearing a loud shirt and practising his guitar. She seems like a very prickly person.
Jim comes in and the woman immediately starts bossing him around(!)
Shane and Max are discussing the board and lodgings - he thinks Max is being a harsh on Danny. Max says that it's cheap compared to what they'd be playing elsewhere for the same standard. But he's decided that Danny will only pay $40 a week.
The would-be housekeeper (Mrs Newton) is behaving as if the job's her's already(!) and starts tutting when Danny arrives with his guitar.
MRS NEWTON: The blackest day was when they abolished National Service. Would have made men out of those two. Goodbye!
JIM: Bye, Mrs Newton.
Jim closes the door in relief!
In what looks like an abandoned warehouse, a Talent Quest is taking play. There is a magic act on before Danny and Scott, then a guitarist. The judging panel are very unsympathetic.
Shane comes in and Harry asks if he's seen Daphne. The phone rings and Harry answers it - Daphne has been delayed. He begs Shane to look after the shop until Daphne gets back. Before he can answer, Harry has gone!
Danny and Scott are playing their songs for the judges. They barely get 6 bars in before the judge shouts, "Next!" Scott refuses and insists they want another go. But the bloke shouts, "Next!" within 4 bars this time.
The next act is Harry! The judge tells Harry to make him laugh, so he tells some jokes which go down like a lead balloon. Even the dog wearing sunglasses looks bored.
A young, pretty would-be housekeeper (Eva Thomas) comes to the door. She seems to be a bit psychic and correctly guesses Jim's star sign and analyses his character. Jim is very nervous. Eva reckons that even if she doesn't get the job, they're bound to become friends(!)
Scott comes round to see Terry. He confronts her about Shane - he saw him leaving No.30 at 7am. Just then, Shane himself arrives. Scott is very frosty towards Shane. Terry says that Scott must have been mistaken - Shane is not impressed and says that Terry knows "damn well" that Scott wasn't mistaken. Then Paul arrives home and asks what's going on.
