Outback
Melanie calls for help and eventually the others arrive to assist. Tess reports the police will be there soon while Haz immediately gets to work trying to stop the bleeding. Mackenzie briefly comes round and Haz tells her to hang in there.
Meanwhile, Toadie is still lying on the train track.
Number 22
Andrew updates the Kennedys, Paul and Terese about what has happened in the outback - about Mackenzie being shot (and that the paramedics are flying in to treat her), Heath is dead, Tess has sustained minor injuries however the rest are unharmed.
Given Toadie hasn't been mentioned, Terese raises his name with Andrew and the reply back is they've been unable to locate him however officers are out looking for him. Andrew does try to reassure her that he hasn't been shot, but given Toadie is out in the middle of nowhere, Terese is fearful that "anything could happen to him."
Moments later the kids come home and can sense the strange atmosphere. Innocently, Nell asks "who died?!" and its Hugo who asks where his dad is. Cue Terese looking at the other [adults] for help answering them!
Outback
Thankfully for Toadie, one of the police officers discovers him before the speeding train does!
Number 22
Terese tells the kids what has been going on and when Nell rightly asks why the weren't told sooner, it is Paul who intervenes to say they didn't want to until they "knew exactly what was going on." Moments later, Andrew comes into the living room area with the news Toadie has been found and he is going to be alright. Cue relief from everyone at the news he's alive, albeit severely dehydrated. He also updates everyone that Mackenzie is stable and is being flown back to Victoria.
While Terese takes the kids into the kitchen for some celebratory ice- cream, Andrew tells the Kennedys about Holly - physically she's okay but has "been though quite the ordeal" in the outback.
Outback
The local police get the RSRs ready to board the plane taking them back home. Tess isn't on the flight though; the police are interviewing her.
The Waterhole
Andrew updates more RSRs (Krista, Leo, Aaron, Wendy and Paul is there too) about what happened in the outback. He confirms that Holly won't be charged (Queensland Police see it as self- defence) but what has happened will "have a huge effect on her" he warns.
KRISTA: On all of them.
Andrew also confirms that Tess is in custody so hopes they will have answers soon and Paul is determined to get recuperate "every single cent she tried to steal." Andrew answers his wife's question that Tess wasn't involved in the ransom demand, "that was something that Heath improvised." On hearing about the ransom demand, Leo praises his dad for offering to pay the $5m but he is very much trying to play down being the 'hero'.
Number 22
With the kids settled upstairs, it's a relieved Terese who joins the Kennedys in the living room.
TERESE: I love him so much, and whatever's been going on, I'm going to fix it.
Penthouse suite
With things all settled down, Leo asks his dad about how things were with Terese. "She was incredibly distressed," Paul explains but that wasn't what Leo was meaning! "You were by her side all night," Leo reminds him but the only reply Paul is giving back, is that they cleared the air. Leo can sense there is more and eventually Paul opens up to tell him that Terese didn't know anything about the ransom demand because it arrived during the night.
PAUL: You know, for a moment, just a brief moment, I wondered what it'd be like if I didn't act.
LEO: What, you mean, not even tell the police?
PAUL: Mmm. And yeah, Toadie and Terese's wedding photo caught my eye. And I'm like… God, it's a horrible thought. I'm mean, I know that… I do, but… anyway, Andrew came in and I spoke up.
Leo tells his dad he "did the right thing" but Paul admits that when the opportunity arose [to get back with Terese] he went back on the new perspective he came back from New York with to respect her marriage to Toadie.
PAUL: I don't really know if I'd be free of this pull towards her.
Hospital
The RSRs begin to be taken into the hospital. Mackenzie is unconscious as she is wheeled into a treatment room (with Haz following her). Its huge relief from Terese as she spots Toadie being wheeled in and moments later the kids rush over to hug their dad.
Police Station
The Kennedys spot Holly and Melanie arriving at the station and Karl immediately goes to hug his daughter while Susan hugs Melanie. Karl thinks the pair should be at the hospital first but they explain that they've been checked over, however they will head there to see Mackenzie once statements are taken.
Melanie is full of praise over how Holly handled things in the outback, explaining she was the one who rescued Toadie and herself as well as doing what she did to stop Heath from carrying out whatever he was going to do next.
HOLLY: You saved my life too.
MELANIE: I guess we saved each other.
Karl reassures the pair they will get all the support needed and additionally, Melanie is to stay the night at #28 rather than being alone in her new home.
Moments later, Tess is taken into the station and immediately put into the interview room. Andrew reminds the pair they need to give their statements too - something Melanie questions given they've already spoken to the police in Queensland. The explanation is it's a joint investigation but he adds in that they've "got nothing to worry about."
Hospital
Remi is telling Mackenzie (and Haz) that the bullet hit nothing else as it went cleanly through her shoulder although the blood loss was a concern, hence the blood transfusion given although Mackenzie seems unawares of that thanks to the pain meds she is on!
Holly trades places with Remi and asks Mackenzie if she remembers what they talked about on the plane? That would be a "no" due to the pain meds, so Holly repeats what she said - she is so sorry for not listening to the warnings about Heath and is determined she isn't going to be that person anymore.
HOLLY: I'm going to get my act together.
Meanwhile, Remi is now happy with Toadie's vitals but wants to keep him in overnight for observation. Terese then enters his room and hears from Remi that he will be okay - the cut to his head was superficial, no stitches required and he doesn't have concussion either.
After Remi heads out of the room, Terese tells her husband how she thought she might not see him again. "Me too," is his reply back before she goes on to acknowledge that she "can't imagine what you've been through" especially from the limited information that was being fed back to them. Toadie admits that he is struggling to get his head around everything that happened and just as he is about to try and explain Melanie and himself, Terese quickly interrupts to say that can wait.
TERESE: Just know that I am… I love you and I trust you.
Terese then leans forward to kiss him but something must not feel right as emotionally she makes it clear that the thought of him not being in her life is "unbearable."
TERESE: But whatever problems that we've got, we're gonna work through them.
As the kids enter the room to hug their dad, Terese tells Toadie that "everything's going to be okay," but as the camera pans to her we can tell from the facial expression she doesn't believe her own words.
Police station
There is someone else needing answers as well as the police - Krista. Tess' justification for her role in the plan was that she didn't like how Reece disregarded her after being at Conrad's beck and call for 18 years.
TESS: No one was supposed to get hurt. It was just a crazy scheme that spiralled horribly out of control.
Krista is curious to know why Tess didn't leave Australia as it looked like she had and the reply is that she loved Heath and she though it was reciprocated, "but he was only in it for what he could get." Surprisingly, Krista doesn't think Tess is an idiot, rather describing the admission as "the most human that I've ever seen you."
TESS: I'm so, so sorry. I've treated you very badly.
KRISTA: If you really mean that, then you will take full responsibility for what you've done.
Tess simply nods her head in acknowledgement.
Hospital (next day)
Mackenzie and Haz make a deal each other - no more trips to the hospital!! The pair then receive a visitor - Toadie, to personally thank them for what they did. "We're just sorry that you and Melanie got caught up in it," Mackenzie replies back while Haz is taking a positive outlook.
HAZ: We're home now and the worst is behind us.
Number 28
The Kennedys are surprised to see Holly up and making the breakfast when they surface from their bedroom. "It's my way of saying sorry for everything that I've put you through," is her explanation but Susan is quick to point out that it's them who should be looking after her.
After Holly sends them out to set the table, when she goes to get the tea towel (its over one of the cupboard doors), rather than pulling clean, its stays put and the fabric rips a bit - this causes Holly to have flashbacks to all that happened whilst in the outback - the tarp started to rip when she was in the silo, Heath chasing her whilst shooting indiscriminately to her then throwing him into the river where he met his demise.
Holly is now quite distressed and its Melanie who rushes out of her [old] room to come and comfort her. "I'm fine," Holly protests, recovering quickly as she doesn't want Karl or Susan to see her upset.
MELANIE: They care about you. We all do.
Melanie asks Holly where she was and so Holly replies with what we saw [in the flashbacks] and finishes by telling Melanie it felt like she had to push Heath into the river but then starts to get really upset as she recalls the moments before his demise. When Melanie goes to comfort Holly, Melanie pushes her away because she is "fine.
MELANIE: You know what? You're not and neither am I. And that's okay.
HOLLY: But you didn't cause this situation. I knew that Heath was trouble and I still went for him.
MELANIE: (shaking her head) You are not responsible for this.
HOLLY: I didn't listen to anyone. And that led to him threatening Mack, and you and Toadie going to Tess' house.
Holly is starting to get really worked up and Melanie tells her to slow down but Holly continues and finishes with "everything that happened is all because of me!" Again, Melanie reiterates that Holly isn't to blame, she is "a victim in all of this" and just like the rest, needs support too.
Given Holly was supposed to be coming out and hasn't appeared, the Kennedys re- enter the house and see how upset Holly is.
HOLLY: I think I'm ready to talk.
Musical montage time
As the aptly named 'I was wrong' starts to play, Tess is publicly frogmarched in cuffs through Lassiters Complex with Leo, Krista and Paul silently looking on. At #22, the kids finish putting a huge breakfast together. Meanwhile at the hospital, Remi checks on how Mackenzie is doing as Haz sits by her side. While at #28, Holly begins telling the Kennedys (and Melanie) what happened in the outback.
Back at the Complex and Tess takes one last look at the place before Andrew puts her into the back of the waiting police car. The kids immediately rush to the door of #22 when they hear their dad (and Terese) arrive home before going to make a dent on the massive feed on the table. Remi leaves Haz and Mackenzie alone at the hospital while at #28, Holly goes to her bag and looks at the Lassiters spa and leisure club membership card she found. Back at #22, and the kids are very appreciative of their dad being home as they give him a hug before heading out of the kitchen.
Number 22
With the music montage finished, and the kids elsewhere, it's time for Terese to ask Toadie if he is ready to talk about what happened in the outback. She knows he went through "a horrible experience" so might not be ready to talk about it. Eventually he tells her that he "can't do this." Terese is confused so asks for clarification.
TOADIE: I've been trying to convince myself that everything's gonna be okay, but it's not… it's not. Terese, I can't be with you anymore.
