Warrinor Prison Exterior
Dan finds David sitting outside alone and joins him for a 'friendly' chat. He tells him about a fellow inmate called Rick, who killed another prisoner because he thought he stole his smokes. Turns out the guy just picked up the cigarettes by accident. "Misunderstandings happen all the time," Dan says. "Someone sees something they shouldn't, or they say something they shouldn't. Never ends well." David freezes in fear when Dan says he'll tell Gareth's mates hello from the doc when he sees them.
Number 30
Still upset, Mel tells Amy that being in Sonya's shadow is too much to handle. Amy had no idea Mel felt that way, but Mel says it only escalated when she moved in because there are so many reminders around. Amy realises this is why Mel took all the photos down and why she was acting weirdly in the drinks van near the mural.
MELANIE: I've been here before too.
AMY: What?
MELANIE: With my ex-husband, Joe. His wife before me, Kerry, also died.
AMY: I really think that you need to talk to Toadie about this.
MELANIE: That would be the worst thing that I could do, and please don't say anything to him.
AMY: I reckon that he'd understand though.
But Melanie decides to go for a walk instead to clear her head.
Harold's Café
Nicolette finishes a phone call with Leo, advising him on what Jane needs to do for Isla when she wakes up from her nap. Kiri pops in and asks how Nic's going, but Nic is stressed because Paul and Aaron just got a "desperate" phone call from David. Nicolette is also feeling guilty for encouraging David to go out on the boat, but Kiri says Nic can't dwell on that and needs to find peace.
NICOLETTE: Any suggestions? I'm desperate, I'll try anything. Except yoga, I hate yoga.
KIRI: The only thing that ever really worked for me was going to church.
NICOLETTE: I've actually never been inside of a church.
KIRI: Wait, like ever? Not even for a wedding or a funeral?
NICOLETTE: I always thought I'd be struck down by lightning.
KIRI: There's less lightning and more just a deep sense of peace. Your problems might not disappear but they're put into perspective.
Nic is surprised Kiri stopped attending if it's that good, which gives Kiri pause.
Number 30
Toadie arrives home with Zara and Amy does a weak job of 'hiding' the framed photos behind her back. Toadie wants to know why Amy's acting so strangely, so Amy blurts out that Mel took the frame down.
TOADIE: Why?
AMY: She was just having a little bit of a freak out about Sonya.
TOADIE: What?
AMY: It's because she just moved in. Y'know how she was married to Joe and his dead wife, I can't remember her name.
TOADIE: Kerry.
AMY: Yeah, and she's just having memories of that.
ZARA: How do you know all of this?
AMY: She told me.
TOADIE: Where is she now?
AMY: She's gone for a walk to clear her head.
Number 24
Freya notices Chloe fretting and says they should try and stay calm about David until they know more information. Chloe says she can't just switch her brain off and not worry, so Freya suggests she get active instead as a distraction. Kiri arrives home with a cake from the Café for Chloe, but Chloe has other things in mind. Namely encouraging Freya to head out so she can have alone time with Kiri to go skinny-dipping in the pool.
Warrinor Prison
David has a visitation with Aaron and Paul and tells them about Dan, and how he's taunting David about members of Gareth's gang. Paul wants to call Georgia because he believes that's reasonable grounds for him to be relocated. "Solitary confinement sounds like bliss right now," David stresses. "I've never been so scared in my life." Aaron tells David they'll do everything they can to get him out. Meanwhile Paul has noticed Holden Brice waiting out in the corridor and echoes to David they'll certainly do everything in their power to help.
Erinsborough Police Station
Aaron and Leo tell Andrew about members of Gareth's gang being in the prison with David. But Andrew doesn't think that's correct - situations like this are taken into account when prisoners are processed. If there were known associates in the same facility as David the system would have flagged it. "Well someone has stuffed up!" Aaron retorts. Andrew says he'll double check, but Leo doesn't know what David is supposed to do in the meantime. Andrew reminds them his powers are limited but he'll do what he can and get back to them straight away.
Number 24
Chloe and Kiri walk back in from the pool, towels wrapped around them, but things didn't go according to plan. Chloe says it was her fault as she was desperate for a distraction, but Kiri also admits she wasn't really in the mood.
CHLOE: And that's fine, nobody should have to force anything.
KIRI: No but I still want to make you feel better about David. Maybe we could have a cup of tea and some cake?
CHLOE: I should probably go and check on Aaron, see if there have been any developments.
Kiri's on board with that as she's supposed to meet up with Glen soon. There's more awkward conversation before Chloe heads off to have a shower.
Number 30 Sunroom
Mel didn't expect to see Toadie home for lunch and is blindsided when he says he wants to talk about Sonya. Mel's irked that Amy spilled the beans about her feeling uncomfortable. Toadie wonders why Mel's bottling things up and Melanie reminds him the last time they spoke about Sonya, they agreed to keep her in their relationship.
MELANIE: (getting upset) Me dragging all this up again doesn't seem fair.
TOADIE: Well that agreement was made a while ago.
MELANIE: So?
TOADIE: So a lot has changed since then. You're living here, and if you are feeling uncomfortable because there are too many reminders of Sonya in this house, well then I need to know that.
MELANIE: So if I asked you to maybe put some of her photos away you wouldn't be upset?
TOADIE: Why would I be?
MELANIE: Because it feels like I'm asking you to chose between us and I never wanted to do that.
TOADIE: Mel, I love you. And yes I will always love Sonya, but equally I want you to be happy. (He looks down at his hand) And my wedding ring, it's probably not helping, is it. I never thought I'd take it off, but then again, I never thought I'd meet someone like you.
He starts twisting the ring off his finger and Mel is touched, knowing how much it means to him. But Toadie just wants Melanie to feel happy and secure.
TOADIE: I love you.
MELANIE: I love you too. But just to be perfectly clear, I don't want you to remove Sonya entirely.
TOADIE: Well that's good. We've got this.
Number 30
Zara's concerned that Amy threw Mel into the deep end with Toadie because she secretly wanted to sabotage their relationship. But Amy insists that's not what is happening. Mel and Toadie return from the sunroom and sound as though they're in a good place, but when Toadie heads out to pick up the kids, Melanie tells Amy that she's extremely disappointed she betrayed her confidence.
MELANIE: You're just lucky Toadie's an understanding guy. What if you'd blabbed and he'd gotten angry with me?
AMY: I'm sorry, what was your grand plan? Were you just going to lie about where the collage went?
MELANIE: Well that is not your problem, Amy. I spoke to you in confidence. I expected you not to betray me.
AMY: I'm really sorry, Mel.
But Mel's not in the mood to hear it. Zara gives her mum a pointed look.
Warrinor Prison
David is reading a book in his cell when Dan saunters in and takes it off him, setting him on edge. He asks what he's reading and David cautiously replies that it's a book about Oscar Wilde, who also spent time in prison. Dan shrugs and hands the book back, making David flinch. Laughing, Dan asks if David thought he was going to belt him with it. "You're pathetic," Dan smirks. He walks out leaving David deeply worried.
The Waterhole
Paul tells Leo and Nicolette that Georgia got back to him and she thinks they finally have an argument to get David out. Leo and Nic want to know when they can get the ball rolling, but Paul says Georgia needs hard evidence first. They're hopeful when Andrew and Levi pay them a visit, but it soon deflates when Andrew informs them that there's no one with known links to Gareth in the facility with David.
LEO: Why was he told that then?
LEVI: It was probably for intimidation.
NICOLETTE: But that's just as bad.
LEO: Yeah, people still know who he is and what he's done. He'd still be a target.
PAUL: He should at least be removed from the general population. David said he'd be happy to go into solitary.
ANDREW: I'm sorry, there's nothing more we can do.
Levi and Andrew leave. Leo thinks that means Georgia won't be able to do anything either. Paul says there might be one more avenue he can try, however. If it works out, he'll let them know.
Number 22
Glen has filled Kiri in on Paul's latest divorce settlement offer with Terese. Kiri figures if Paul's not going to drag out the divorce at least that's good for Glen and Terese moving forward as a couple. She then jokes she must be boring Glen when he starts yawning, but Glen says his sleep schedule is just out of whack since he went cold turkey. Kiri says she'll go so he can nap, but Glen wants Kiri to keep talking with him.
KIRI: I did have a very interesting conversation with Nicolette this morning about going back to church.
GLEN: Really?
KIRI: Yeah, it was weird but good. It kind of made me realise how much I miss it.
GLEN: Does that mean you're ready to go back?
KIRI: I'm still thinking about it but it's good to know I haven't closed the door on it. And I'm not angry like I was.
GLEN: That is good.
KIRI: My goal right now is to just make peace wherever I am.
Warrinor Prison
Holden is positively delighted to have a visitor request from Paul Robinson himself. Paul admits he was just as surprised he accepted, but Holden retorts that Paul's rich so he'd be an idiot not to at least be curious.
HOLDEN: What gives?
PAUL: My son, David Tanaka, has been moved here on remand.
HOLDEN: I know who he is.
PAUL: Okay, so you'd also be aware that there may be people who wish him harm.
HOLDEN: Yes.
PAUL: All right. I want protection for him inside. Very, very handsomely paid protection.
HOLDEN: (bursting out laughing) You must be seriously desperate, Paul.
PAUL: I'd be lying if I said this wasn't a last resort.
HOLDEN: Then let's negotiate my price.
Harold's Café
Nicolette finishes up her shift and finds Kiri, who asks how things went with David. Nic admits it's complicated, so Kiri has a "bit of a crazy offer" for her. She asks if Nicolette wants to come to church with her as she's a bit nervous about going back. Nicolette asks if she's ready, but Kiri says she's had a few conversations today that make her think she's on the right track.
NICOLETTE: Well our conversation earlier really got to me as well. That deep sense of peace you were talking about? I need some.
KIRI: So does that mean you're going to come?
NICOLETTE: Will you shield me from the lightning bolt?
KIRI: I have a feeling you'll be okay.
Number 32/Warrinor Prison
Aaron and Leo cannot believe that Paul made a deal with Holden - the same guy who double crossed him over Brent. Leo asks how Paul is so confident Holden won't double cross him again, but Paul figures Holden always looks out for himself and the money's too good to pass up.
Holden strolls into David's cell to say hello, but tells him not to stress, he's not there to hassle him. He just heard they have a mutual hate of Dan in common. David mutters that hate is a strong word, but he's certainly not his favourite person. "Oh man, you're way too polite but I like it, it's funny," Holden laughs. He offers out his hand for a fist bump, introducing himself as 'Brice'. David cautiously returns the gesture.
Aaron angrily says he still wouldn't trust Holden, but Paul says they tried going through all the proper channels and it got them nowhere. "Come on, let's give Holden a try," he urges.
Holden tells David he heard about Dan giving him a hard time, so he's got some advice for the doc: "He's only targeting you because he can smell your fear." David says it's because Dan truly scares him. Holden gets it, but says in prison it's all about attitude. If David stands up to Dan, he'll back down. He might even respect him.
DAVID: I think it'll be easier if I just stay out of his way.
HOLDEN: Mate this is prison, there's no hiding from anyone. Or haven't you figured that out yet?
DAN: (wandering in with two mates) Who are you hiding from? Not me I hope.
Aaron and Leo really hope that Paul hasn't made things worse by getting Holden involved. But Paul is one hundred per cent certain Holden will help this time.
Heeding Holden's advice, David stands up and defiantly tells Dan to leave his cell. Dan just cracks up laughing, and when David goes to grab his heavy book for protection, Dan shoves him onto the bed and starts punching him. The two other guys join in while Holden just sits back and lets it happen.
