The Vineyard
In the bar, Glen is stocking the fridge. In its door he sees a reflection of Kiri, who's working at one of the tables, looking uncomfortable. Leo, who is also working nearby, senses the tension in the atmosphere. Kiri asks Leo if he minds her working from home for the rest of the day, saying she'll be able to concentrate better there. Leo agrees, and Kiri leaves, saying she'll return for the staff meeting later.
As she exits, there's an awkward moment between her and Glen at the door, who's carrying boxes through. Leo looks concerned.
Power Road
Toadie is waiting for Melanie outside Grease Monkeys, and she emerges with potato gems as comfort food.
MELANIE: Can you blame me?
TOADIE: You know, I hate that you are feeling this way. And that's on me - I am sorry.
MELANIE: Okay. Score one, Mel. What now?
TOADIE: Well, first up - no more cocktail chats with Amy. More cocktails with you.
MELANIE: It's not a her-or-me situation, Toad. I get that your friendship with Amy is important.
TOADIE: Well, you're more important.
MELANIE: All I want is to be... considered, and included more.
TOADIE: That's fair enough.
MELANIE: You may say that. But there's still parts of your life that I know nothing about. I've never met any of your family besides Nell and Hugo.
TOADIE: Keeping you away from the Rebecchi clan is an act of love, trust me! Oh, come on, babe - you know how much you mean to me, right?
MELANIE: Well, I know how much you say it. But I'm still waiting for you to show it.
Melanie walks off, leaving Toadie concerned.
The Waterhole
Levi sits alone at a table, while Corey and Harlow get takeaway coffees at the bar. They're just on their way out when Aaron and David come in; David asks Harlow if she has time for a chat. But she says they're going to see a movie, and Corey adds that they're running late.
HARLOW: Thanks for covering, but did you see that? He just completely ignored you. That's so rude.
COREY: It's okay. I'm just sorry he doesn't like me.
HARLOW: I just... I don't understand why.
COREY: Hey - why don't we go away this weekend? Get a bit of a change of scenery, and forget that everyone else exists. Sorry - is that too much?
HARLOW: No. No, I'd actually like to. I just... I need to check the roster at work.
Meanwhile, David is talking to Levi about Corey, and the fact that his shoes matched those visible in the dashcam footage of the person who vandalised Amy's van.
LEVI: I am not gonna arrest Corey based on his shoes, David.
DAVID: I just feel like it's too much for it to be a coincidence.
Levi says he'll chat to Corey about it, though, and see what he was doing at the time. David explains Harlow said they were having lunch at the time, but that he doesn't believe it.
DAVID: Corey is manipulating her; he's setting her up.
AARON: he's been on her side ever since they met. Why would he be setting her up?
DAVID: Good question.
AARON: It doesn't make sense.
LEVI: I want this cleared up as much as you do, mate. I'll follow up on the shoe thing, follow up on his alibi, but I cannot arrest Corey based on a random hunch.
David looks frustrated.
Harold's Café
Chloe is surprised to find Kiri working at a table; Kiri explains she's asked Leo if she could work remotely. Chloe guesses that this is because of Glen.
Lassiter's Complex
In the car park, Glen tells Terese that Kiri can barely look at him at work.
GLEN: She practically begged Leo to let her work from home.
Harold's Café
Kiri says it's not just because of Glen that she's struggling with work; she got in touch with her mum Barbara this morning, and says she and Alan are working through things slowly, but that it's not been easy.
KIRI: I just have so many questions.
CHLOE: There is someone else you can ask.
Lassiter's Complex
Glen tells Terese that, when he spoke to Kiri the other day, he was under the impression she might be willing to have some sort of relationship eventually - though it was more of a gut feeling than anything concrete she said.
TERESE: Well, hold onto it. I mean, you and Kiri have a natural bond. That's not gonna go away.
GLEN: Thank you.
TERESE: What for?
GLEN: Being you. Being here.
They kiss, just as Paul emerges from the hotel. He looks very upset.
Harold's Café
Kiri has to get back to work, but thanks Chloe for making her feel better. They laugh together. Nicolette, who is on duty behind the counter, looks forlorn, especially when Chloe touches Kiri on the shoulder as she leaves.
Lassiter's Hotel
Paul is in the office, and losing his temper with a laptop computer which isn't cooperating! Chloe comes in.
PAUL: Where have you been?!
CHLOE: On my legally sanctioned afternoon break. I'm assuming that's not a problem?
Paul tells Chloe he's just had an email from the Fair Work Commission, the workplace tribunal; Katrina Marshall, the maid suspected of sabotaging Amy's fashion show with the projections of Harlow and Ned, is alleging that she was unfairly suspended for weeks without pay.
CHLOE: She was caught on video outside the tent where Ned and Harlow were.
PAUL: Okay, so she did it, case closed.
CHLOE: Well, she's denying it, Paul. She was suspended because she blew up at Terese when we questioned why she was outside the tent when she shouldn't have been.
PAUL: Really, and how's that investigation going, then?
CHLOE: It's not. When Terese was fired, it was another thing that fell through the cracks, I guess.
PAUL: Oh, well, you'd better get onto it ASAP, then.
CHLOE: Me?
PAUL: Yes, you! Just talk to the people involved, write up reports - do whatever you have to do to back up the suspension.
CHLOE: I'm not sure that's something I'm qualified to do.
PAUL: Just do it, will you?
Chloe fumes silently.
The Waterhole
Christabel, Corey's creepy colleague from the Restoration Order, is at the bar getting a drink, when Freya comes in. Christabel tells her she's joined the volunteer list at the Sonya Foundation. As she prepares to leave, Christabel also asks Freya if she's had any thoughts about attending the seminar she mentioned.
FREYA: Oh, nah. I, umm... I'm a bit low on cash at the moment.
CHRISTABEL: Oh, yeah, I was totally in the same boat. But they're... they're actually really good about that stuff. The first seminar's free.
FREYA (bluntly): Yeah, I'm actually not interested. Sorry.
CHRISTABEL: Sure. That's fine - yeah, it's not for everyone. Umm, well, if you change your mind -
Christabel tries to hand Freya a leaflet.
FREYA: I won't. I won't.
CHRISTABEL: Can you keep it, please? I've got so many taking up space in my bag. You can recycle it, if you don't want it.
Freya reluctantly takes the leaflet - which is headed 'everyday empowerment - find your super you' - and puts it in her bag once Christabel has gone.
The Penthouse
Chloe comes in and finds Harlow with Corey. Chloe wants to talk to Harlow about Katrina Marshall. Harlow asks whether Chloe changed the work roster, as she'd previously wanted Harlow to cover Katrina's shifts. Chloe says she found someone else when Harlow said she was feeling a bit off.
But the reason Chloe wants to talk about Katrina, she explains, is because she's picking up the investigation into the fashion show sabotage. Corey looks nervous, as Chloe goes on to say that the evidence against Katrina is pretty loose.
CHLOE: Was there anyone else around I could talk to?
HARLOW: Umm... uh, Terese. And Corey was there.
CHLOE: Well, do you remember seeing anything suss at that time?
COREY: Uhh... not really. Aside from the fact that she had a go at Harlow. That was pretty out of line.
CHLOE: But did you see her hanging around the tent before the breakfast?
COREY: ... No. Sorry. Although it makes the most sense that it was her.
CHLOE: Possibly.
Chloe leaves to talk to other people who were at the scene, saying as she goes that Harlow should call Terese, as she's worried about her. Harlow immediately goes to call Terese, but...
COREY: What are you doing? (...) Don't you think that if she was really worried, she would've called? Or at least texted?
HARLOW: Well, she's probably busy.
COREY: With what? I mean, it's not like she's working. She's just spending all her time with Glen.
HARLOW: ... Yeah, I guess.
COREY: Don't you think that if she *really* cared, she would've come in person?
HARLOW: ... Mm.
Harold's Café / the Vineyard
David and Freya are having a discussion about something Toadie has asked for as regards their charges surrounding Gareth's death. Freya doesn't want whatever it is to hurt David's chances, but he can't see how it will, and seems to be on board with it. Freya gets a message, asking her to do an orientation for a new volunteer at the Sonya Foundation, and is annoyed about it.
DAVID: You're not feeling charitable?
FREYA: Not with Christabel. She keeps trying to, like, lure me into some women-in-business seminar thing (...) I don't know what it is about her. She just - she gives me a weird vibe.
David gets a call from Leo, who's at the vineyard, prompting Freya to leave. Leo explains he's working hard trying to launch his new product, but that Glen and Kiri can't even look at each other. Leo's been trying to give them the space to figure things out, but it's reaching a point where something has to give.
Lassiter's Complex
Levi is talking to Amy about the vandalism of her drinks van. Amy is absolutely convinced that Harlow is to blame, but Levi says she now has an alibi and thus he has no grounds to keep investigating her. He's still on the case of finding the culprit, though, so promises to keep her posted.
As Levi walks off, Toadie joins Amy, and she updates him on Harlow's alibi. Amy asks if Toadie's managed to work things out with Melanie.
TOADIE: Uh, yes and now. It'd be more 'yes' if you said yes to the huge favour I'm about to ask you...
The Waterhole
Corey and Christabel convene at a table, to discuss their respective new recruits for the Restoration Order. Christabel admits she'll have to adopt a different approach with Freya, but insists she'll get there. For his part, Corey says things are progressing well with Harlow...
COREY: ... except the hotel is launching an investigation into the projector incident, and I can't be a hundred percent sure that it won't blow back onto me.
CHRISTABEL: Well, make sure that it doesn't.
COREY: I suppose I could try to get her to leave tomorrow.
CHRISTABEL: Yeah - don't try. Make it happen.
David walks in, and sees Corey with Christabel, albeit at this point he doesn't know who she is. He looks suspicious; and once Christabel has left, David asks Corey who she was on his way out.
DAVID: It seemed pretty intense.
COREY: Okay, can you please move?
DAVID: What are you still doing here? Your conference finished ages ago; don't you have a life to get back to in the UK? A job, family, friends?
COREY: David, I know you have some sort of personal vendetta against me -
DAVID: Yeah, you're right. It *is* personal. If you care so much about Harlow, why are you keeping her from her family?
COREY: You know what? Instead of harassing me with your false accusations, why don't you focus on getting yourself off your murder charges?
Corey walks out, leaving David looking angry.
The Vineyard
Glen is at work indoors when Kiri turns up. She awkwardly asks if Leo's around; Glen says he's outside. Kiri's about to go and find him, but then pops back in and says...
KIRI: Hey, umm... how long were you and your wife friends with my parents?
GLEN: Uh... a while.
KIRI: Yeah, Mum said you were the only one she could speak to when things were going badly with Dad. If you were all friends, why didn't she talk to your wife?
GLEN: I... I guess because we ended up spending more time together. I was going through a rough patch, and your mum convinced me to join a recovery programme she ran through the church.
KIRI: Uh... then what?
GLEN: I'd stay back, and help pack up. We'd talk - well, mainly she would, about the situation she was in. I gave her a shoulder to cry on. We bonded, I guess. Then, one day, after a meeting... uh, it went further. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have -
KIRI: No, no, I can't hear anymore. Ever. I can't be around you.
Kiri leaves, flustered.
Lassiter's Complex
Melanie is outside the pub when Toadie and Amy approach; Toadie's asked Melanie to meet her, and she seems put out that Amy is with him. Toadie tells Melanie that Amy has something to say.
AMY: Look, I'm... I'm really sorry, Melanie. I know I use Toadie as an emotional crutch, and I just didn't realise how that would affect your relationship.
MELANIE (to Toadie): So after I spoke to you confidentially, you went straight to Amy and blabbed?
AMY: Please, don't get angry at him - you know, cos we couldn't fix it unless he told me.
Toadie gives Melanie a wallet containing plane tickets to San Francisco, for her, him, Nell and Hugo.
TOADIE: We're gonna go visit Callum.
MELANIE: Are you serious?
TOADIE: Well, our other option was a road trip to Colac, but I thought I'd save that for Christmas, for maximum Rebecchi clan pain and suffering!
MELANIE: This says the flight leaves tomorrow!
AMY: Yep, and you go for two weeks.
MELANIE: Well, I can't. What about the van?
AMY: No, seriously, you have done enough, okay? It's on me now.
A grateful Melanie comes over all emotional.
MELANIE: I think this deserves a really big group hug!
Amy and Toadie gladly oblige!
Harold's Café
Freya walks in and is disconcerted to find Christabel at the counter; Christabel acknowledges that Freya will be doing her orientation at the Foundation, but it's clear there's an atmosphere in the air after their last encounter.
CHRISTABEL: I, umm... I think I might owe you an apology.
FREYA: For what?
CHRISTABEL: I saw your face just now when you saw me. I was a bit full-on about the seminar, wasn't I?
FREYA: Oh, I... it's just not really my thing, that's all.
CHRISTABEL: That's - I totally understand. I just... I dunno, I get excited about what I am excited about! Anyway, it'd be really great if we could start again?
FREYA: Yeah. Yeah, I, umm... I'd really like that.
Christabel thanks her, and says she'll see Freya at the foundation - then smirks to herself as she leaves.
No 22
Glen comes in and finds Terese just about to leave; she's hoping to go and catch up with Harlow. Terese asks if all is okay with Glen; he tells her to go and see Harlow, and that they can chat later. But Terese presses him, and he admits Kiri asked him about his affair with Barbara.
GLEN: I think she's gonna leave the vineyard.
The Penthouse
Corey suggests to Harlow that they leave for their getaway tomorrow, and make an extra-long weekend of it. A drowsy Harlow says she's rostered on to work, other than on the weekend itself. Corey suggests she could talk to Chloe or call in sick, but Harlow says she's too tired and wouldn't be much fun. Paul emerges, and Corey explains he's trying to convince Harlow to come away with him for a mini-break.
PAUL: You know what? Maybe you should go away. It could be good for you.
HARLOW: I can't, Grandad. I'm working, and I don't want to let Chloe down.
PAUL: I will take care of the roster; don't you worry about that. No, I think Corey's right; I really think you do need this. Besides, you deserve it.
Harlow asks Corey to help her pack.
COREY: Of course. We'll leave first thing tomorrow.
The Vineyard
The next day, Glen and Leo are at the bar when Kiri arrives for work.
LEO: Glen's just told me that you're planning to resign?
KIRI: Glen should've left that for me to say, but... yes, I think it's for the best.
LEO: No, it's not for the best; and sorry, I'm not accepting your resignation.
KIRI: Okay, I don't think you really have a choice.
LEO: Can you just hear us out, please? I think Glen's come up with a possible solution.
GLEN: (...) You keep working here in the restaurant, and I'll base myself in the shed office and do all the outside work.
LEO: He'll be flexible with start times, finish times and breaks as well.
GLEN: We never have to see each other... I don't want you to leave because of me.
KIRI (to Leo): And you're okay with this?
LEO: If it's the only solution, yeah. It'll have to do for now.
KIRI: If you can make it work, so can I.
Lassiter's Complex
Corey is loading up the car, and Harlow tells him she's glad he pushed her into going away; she thinks it will really help.
COREY: I know it will. Come on; a brave new world awaits.
HARLOW: That's really corny, but I like it.
An ominous underscore rises as Corey and Harlow drive away from the hotel...
