Lassiters Complex
Kyle's choking worsens as he collapses to the ground, unable to breathe, and yet David still doesn't spring into action. Freya passes by and is alarmed when she sees what's going on. She rushes over to Kyle and helps him until he eventually coughs up the olive he was choking on. David stands there staring, in shock.
The Waterhole
David hovers by the table as Freya brings Kyle some water. Levi arrives to check up on his cousin and immediately thanks David for being there, but Kyle chimes in that Freya was the one who saved him. "I was just quicker on my feet, that's all," Freya claims. Looking guilty, David says he should get the shopping home and quickly leaves. Levi thought David would be in a less stressed-out mood since the coroner's report was released. This is news to Freya, so Levi reads the email he received.
LEVI: Given the extent of his injuries and the time it took for the ambulance to arrive, it's unlikely Gareth would have survived. Case closed.
Freya nods, looking as though a weight has been lifted.
Later that night, Terese, Chloe, Leo and Glen have gathered for a meeting with Mick. They're all unsure when Mick mentions that Montana would love to see tiki torches around Lassiters, as they remind her of her first love. Mick thinks having an ice sculpture at the vineyard would be great too because "she's always wanted to go to Iceland". Terese says the ideas are ludicrous, while Chloe believes they can think of something more imaginative to impress Montana, but Mick says they need to shock and surprise his boss. Terese still doesn't think they can trust Mick, which he can understand, but he reminds them if they look good, he looks good as well. When Mick leaves, Leo says he actually sounded "kind of sincere". Chloe muses that perhaps they've been too conservative seeing as fashion is about risk-taking, but Glen says if they're going to dial things up they'll have to get onto it, pronto.
Harold's Café
Jane and Curtis meet with Aubrey and her grandmother so Jane can officially introduce Shannon to Curtis. Shannon can't help staring at Curtis's cochlear implant, so he explains that he's hard of hearing. Curtis then asks if they'd like to meet up tomorrow at 11. Aubrey starts to mention that she's got a doctor's appointment then, but Shannon, who has her head down, says it's fine. "Cool, totally ignore me as usual," Aubrey mutters. Curtis suggests they meet at pub tomorrow.
Chloe walks in and finds Zara, asking if she'd like to make fifty bucks before school tomorrow. "Is is legal?" Zara asks, bemused. Chloe says she needs someone to do flower arranging at the hotel. Zara's slightly distracted when she notices Aubrey sitting with Shannon, Jane and Curtis, but then tells Chloe she'd love to help.
Erinsborough Hospital
The next morning, David sits on the end of Aaron's bed while Aaron wraps up a phone call with Tyler. When he hangs up, Aaron wants to know why David has been stressed out all week, and why he acted so strangely with Freya yesterday. David pretends that Freya's just been helping him out because everything has been a bit hard lately.
AARON: Why didn't you just say something to me?
DAVID: You don't need my stress while you're recovering.
AARON: David I'm in here watching TV all day. Just because I'm in hospital it doesn't mean you can't talk to me. I'm still your husband.
Lassiters Hotel
Terese tells Chloe that Glen has gone to the vineyard and Leo has the ice sculpture sorted. Freya lets them know the flowers are all done in every venue. Chloe calls her a legend and that she'll leave Freya's cash behind the Waterhole bar later. Terese and Chloe then freak out because Montana has arrived at the hotel early. Montana steps out of the car, wearing black sunglasses and a scowl, as Mick stands by her side. Terese and Chloe rush out to introduce themselves and explain their plan for the morning, but Montana throws them into a spin when she wants to head to the Waterhole first. When Chloe and Terese walk off, Mick makes a snide comment about the tiki torches while Montana looks around the complex in disdain.
The Waterhole
Montana walks in alone, letting Terese and Chloe know that Mick will rejoin them shortly, he's just teeing up pitch meetings. Terese talks up how good the bar is, but Montana wants to know what happened during the recent storm and the tragedy that unfolded at the Flamingo Bar.
CHLOE: Lassiters was in no way at fault.
TERESE: But I'm sure you're aware of our other high-profile events. The wedding expo, the Shorts and Briefs festival-
MONTANA: Where was the baby stolen?
TERESE: Um, that was the film festival. But she's fine, she's well. I can reassure you that any setbacks we've had, it's just made us stronger.
She guides Montana over to the brunch table, but when Montana sees a vase of gladioli set down her mood gets frostier and she says she's lost her appetite. Chloe and Terese try not to freak out again.
Number 24
Freya is on the phone with David and says she'll talk about the coroner's report with him soon. She hangs up and opens the door to leave, but finds a woman on her doorstep. Freya soon discovers it's Emma, Gareth's girlfriend, and Emma is feeling some type of way after reading the coroner's report. She can't believe a nurse and a doctor were both on the scene and Gareth still died.
FREYA: If you read the report you'd know we did everything we could.
EMMA: Do you think I believe you?
FREYA: I don't really care what you believe.
EMMA: You let him die. You and your doctor mate. People are going to find out about this, and you know the sorts of people I'm talking about.
FREYA: Get off my property or I'm calling the police.
Freya shuts the door in Emma's face, but her bravado falls when she's alone.
Vineyard Exterior
Chloe and Terese present the vineyard to Montana and Mick, but the duo look bored and uninterested. That is until Leo appears and welcomes Montana to the 'Barrel Bash' they're throwing today. Lowering her sunnies, Montana appraises Leo with a smile. Chloe and Terese attempt to talk more about their plans for the fashion parade, but Montana would prefer to find a drink.
Around the side of the building, Glen offers Jane another gin. Jane gladly accepts and says if the whiskey turns out as nicely as the gin, she's going to look forward to her 'whiskey investment bash'. Glen smiles and says she'll have to make the most of her gin investment for now.
Things take an even worse turn for Terese, Chloe and Leo when Montana and Mick want to know why on earth Montana's being tortured with tiki torches, gladioli and ice sculptures. Chloe explains that they thought everything reminded Montana of the things she loved.
MONTANA: My true love left me at our wedding in Hawaii. He cheated on me with my cousin - they moved to Reykjavik.
TERESE: And what about the gladioli?
MONTANA: My wedding bouquet. But thank you for reminding me of the most tedious and irritating slice of my life.
GLEN: (bringing around a tray) Oyster?
MONTANA: (looks disgusted)
CHLOE: Let me guess, vegan?
MONTANA: (hissing) Anaphylactic.
Terese and Chloe stare daggers at Mick, but he quickly drags Montana away before they can give away his game. Chloe complains about Mick setting them up, but Terese says they need to forget about Mick and concentrate on winning Montana over.
The Waterhole
Zara collects her money from the bar just as Aubrey and Shannon arrive for their meeting. Aubrey takes a moment to speak with Zara, thanking her for putting in a good word with Jane, "it's more than I deserve". Zara asks how things are going with her gran. Aubrey starts to confess she's let her gran down and made her life ten times harder, but then stops herself from rambling and goes over to join Curtis and Shannon. Curtis chats with the teen and asks if she needs any more resources. Aubrey says she's okay, but then Shannon looks up from the pamphlet she's reading and asks the same question as Curtis. Shannon then mishears an exam date Curtis tells her, which earns a curious look from the teacher.
Lassiters Complex
David looks incredibly down in the dumps when Freya sits with him at a Café table. She notices he's been reading the coroner's report on his phone and asks how many times he's re-read it since last night. David admits it's been more than a few, but no matter what it says, they're always going to know the truth.
FREYA: The way I see it we have two options. We can either put this whole thing behind us and move on, or we can beat ourselves up forever. Now, I know what option I'm going with.
DAVID: Yeah, well, you only have yourself to think about.
FREYA: David you can't let this guilt eat at you. I might not be around the next time you freeze in an emergency.
Emma suddenly appears, introducing herself to David as Gareth's girlfriend. "Why didn't you save him?" she starts to yell, but Freya quickly strong-arms her away from the table and into a secluded part of the complex.
EMMA: I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what really happened. Gareth was the love of my life.
FREYA: (laughing) The love of-You knew him for what, like five minutes?
EMMA: He didn't love you the way he loved me.
FREYA: Gareth was a scumbag. If anything we did you a favour.
EMMA: (eyes widening) What's that supposed to mean?
FREYA: It means you're better off without him. Now leave, or I'm calling the cops.
Emma walks away but Freya knows she's definitely put her foot in it.
Vineyard Exterior
Chloe finds Mick and gets angry with him about setting them up. Scoffing a tray of snacks, Mick wishes her good luck trying to prove it. He then points out that Montana's looking pretty bored, which means she'll be leaving soon. Terese does her best to make Montana stick around, reminding her that she hasn't seen their pitch yet, but Montana snits that she's seen enough. Terese calls Leo away from schmoozing with Jane and some other investors so he can do damage control with Montana. Leo uses his charm and manages to convince Montana to stay and take a tour of the property with him.
Number 26 Backyard
Levi finds Kyle sitting outside with Gary the pigeon, looking quite glum. Kyle explains to his cousin that it's just been one thing after another lately with the cancer, the wedding and now this. He can't believe that David just stood there and did nothing. David suddenly turns up and explains to Kyle that there's been a lot going on in his mind lately, not that that's an excuse. "I'm sorry, I should have helped you," David says. "And I'll never forgive myself for that, but I'm just hoping that one day that you can." Kyle says at the end of the day Freya was there, so it all worked out okay.
The Waterhole
Before Shannon and Aubrey leave, Curtis can't help but ask Shannon if she's ever had any difficulties with her hearing. He knows how much she cares about Aubrey and her education, but she seems to be missing a lot of information. Shannon gets defensive and asks if he's been colluding with Jane, but Curtis says it's just from what he's observed. Shannon states that she doesn't have any hearing problems, so that will be the end of the discussion. Aubrey offers Curtis an apologetic smile as she follows her gran out.
Number 24
Freya is searching for 'medical books on guilt and trauma' on Google when there's a knock at the door. Levi has popped around to see if Freya wants to have a coffee to celebrate her being Kyle's hero. They head out, but not long after, there's the sound of someone trying to break into the back door of the house.
Vineyard Exterior
Montana is actually smiling and laughing when she returns with Leo, which Terese and Chloe find promising. Montana says the tour was the most relaxed she's felt in a while, but turns things on their head when she says she's still not interested in collaborating with Lassiters. She doesn't like the fact that they failed to mention all the terrible things that have gone on at the hotel. Chloe asks for another chance, but the only thing Montana enjoyed about the day was spending time with Leo. "My fashion week isn't going to be held at Lassiters," she says with a shrug, much to Terese's dismay.
Number 26 Backyard
Freya looks at Gary the pigeon in curiosity. "What do you mean he's your uncle?" she asks Levi, but Levi says it's a long story. Kyle joins them and is actually pleasant towards Freya, noting that the pigeon appears to like her.
FREYA: Well pigeons usually do. Seagulls not so much. Wait, does that mean Gary's your-
KYLE: Dad. Long story.
FREYA: So I'm told.
KYLE: Freya thank you for what you did. I really thought I was a goner.
FREYA: Right place, right time.
KYLE: Well you knew what you were doing so that was lucky.
LEVI: (teasing) Ooh, I think he likes you.
Freya then gets a phone call from Chloe and soon grows alarmed, saying her and Levi will be right there.
Number 24
Freya and Levi arrive to find Chloe standing in the middle of her completely trashed lounge room and kitchen. Levi asks if Chloe's okay, and Chloe says she's already had a pretty crappy day so this was the icing on the crap cake. Freya asks where Mackenzie is, but luckily she was at work when it happened. Chloe says that none of the bedrooms were trashed so maybe it was just kids doing a dare. The lock on the back door was smashed so that's how they probably got in. Freya then notices that her laptop has been stolen, so Chloe goes into her room to see if hers is still there. Freya gives Levi a grim look. "I know exactly who it was," she states.
