Harold's Café
Amy is positively giddy that Ned's decided to give their relationship another shot. She asks if he wants to celebrate after he finishes work, "something intimate, romantic and a little bit sexy". Ned says it sounds great, but his facial expression suggests otherwise.
Number 32 - David and Aaron's Bedroom
David is trying to sleep but keeps having flashbacks to finding Aaron injured, and then deciding not to help Gareth with the OPA before he died. Leo comes in to check on his brother after leaving Abigail and Isla with Terese. David says he's fine and is heading into work soon, so Leo says he'll drive him. He also thinks David should have a shower because he's looking a little worse for wear.
Harold's Café
Ned has summoned Kyle for a chat, telling his friend he did "something stupid" and got back with Amy. Kyle can't believe Ned changed his mind so quickly, but Ned says he was trying to get Harlow out of his head and Amy showed up, so he kissed her. "Now you've led her on," Kyle says, but Ned insists it's not entirely the case.
NED: I just don't seem to want it as much as she does.
KYLE: You know what you need to tell her, right?
NED: What?
KYLE: Well you want to tell her that you're keen to get back together but you don't want to rush into things.
Ned gets a text from Amy, who wants to meet him later at the rooftop pool. Kyle reiterates that Ned needs to have a serious talk with Amy - it's better to hurt her feelings now than down the track. "I'll say something as soon as I get there," Ned decides.
Erinsborough Hospital
David and Leo are visiting Aaron in his room. Aaron murmurs something about his left arm, and David explains to Leo that it's weak because his nerve cells aren't communicating properly yet. "But they will," he reassures Aaron. "It's not unusual with a brain trauma." Aaron wants to know when he can start going to the physio, but David says it won't be for a few more days until his ribs heal more.
AARON: How long until I'm normal?
DAVID: It'll take as long as it takes.
David spies Dean loitering outside the room and looks perturbed.
Number 24 Sunroom
Freya is giving the boxing bag a workout and is startled by Chloe, who is retrieving her jacket before heading to the hospital. Freya smiles and says her shift starts soon so she might see her around. Chloe nods but doesn't appear thrilled at the prospect.
Lassiters Rooftop Pool
Ned arrives to discover Amy has set up a little corner of tropical paradise for them by the spa. Noticing him, Amy strikes a seductive pose by the pool railing. She welcomes him to the tropical retreat, placing a lei around his neck with a grin. Amy explains she wanted to make up for the retreat experience he missed out on at River Bend.
NED: Where did you get all those tropical plants from?
AMY: I may have to return them to Vera Punt's patio before she gets back from the peninsula.
NED: Wait are you joking? I can't tell.
AMY: You're just going to have to enjoy the mystery, along with your very own signature cocktail. (She hands him a drink) Which I am calling 'the reunion sunrise'.
Meanwhile, Harlow, Hendrix and Mackenzie have arrived for a swim session. Hendrix asks the girls what drinks they want, but when Harlow sees Ned and Amy looking all cosy together her face falls. She tells Hendrix and Mackenzie they should head back to No.24 for a swim instead because the drinks will be cheaper. Mac and Hendrix are on board and Harlow gives an oblivious Ned one last downcast look before she exits.
Erinsborough Hospital
Chloe shows Aaron a 'get well' sign that Mark made with Freddie, but by the amount of glitter used she figures it was all Paige's doing. Aaron is attempting to sit up and eat some food, but gets frustrated with David and Chloe's offers of help when he's unable to hold onto his cutlery properly. Aaron shoves the food away, pretending he's not hungry. Levi drops by to give Aaron his backpack, which was left on the bus, and says when he feels up to it the police are going to need a statement.
DAVID: It's too early to be pushing him for that!
AARON: I remember him hitting me with a wrench.
DAVID: You don't have to think about that right now okay?
He tells Levi to give Aaron some space, and guides him out the door with a stern look.
DAVID: Before you come in next time maybe check with one of his doctors if he's ready for any of that.
LEVI: Yeah, will do.
DAVID: (irritated) Good.
Chloe tries to keep the mood light and says the family should stick to "staycations" from now on. Aaron mumbles that she'd get bored, but David thinks it sounds like a plan.
The Waterhole
Kyle doesn't look impressed when he sees Levi take Freya aside for a private chat. Levi lets Freya know he just spoke to the Echuca police and they tracked down the group of guys that Gareth was running with. "It turns out they're all involved in some sort of black market trade," he adds. Freya asks what kind of trade and Levi says things like guns and drugs.
LEVI: It might take a while to get the full picture but at least they're all in custody now.
FREYA: Hmm.
LEVI: What?
FREYA: Why haven't they told me any of this?
LEVI: I don't know, they're probably just waiting until they get the full story.
FREYA: Yeah, well, Gareth lied to me and he tried to kill my friends so I need answers, not to be babied by the cops.
She thanks Levi for keeping her in the loop, though. When she heads to work, Kyle approaches Levi and gives him a bag with his board shorts in it. He asks what the two of them were talking about, and becomes concerned when Levi says he was updating her on the case. But Levi tells him not to worry - Freya's keeping her distance. They then make their way to the rooftop pool to meet Ned. "He's having a weird day," Kyle reveals.
Erinsborough Hospital
Leo has brought Isla in for a visit but Aaron gets upset when he realises he won't be able to hold his daughter properly. David takes Isla from Leo and settles on the bed with Aaron so they can have a cuddle together. Aaron then gets exasperated when he sees Dean through the window, asking why he keeps hanging around. David hands Isla back to Leo and goes outside to confront Dean away from the room. Dean says he heard about Aaron's accident and wanted to see if David was okay.
DAVID: You just need to go.
DEAN: Did he make you say that?
DAVID: No. This is all me.
DEAN: Have you told him what happened between us?
DAVID: Nothing happened between us, so there's nothing to tell.
DEAN: It's understandable if you're afraid of him.
DAVID: What are you talking about? My husband is trying to recover from a serious brain injury; I need you to leave him alone. To leave both of us alone.
DEAN: If you say so.
Lassiters Rooftop Pool
Levi and Kyle watch Ned and Amy in the spa together, mucking around. Levi asks if they got back together and Kyle grumbles that it looks as though they did. Amy's having a wonderful time lounging around with Ned and tells him she hasn't had this much fun in forever. When she walks away to pay for their drinks, Kyle approaches Ned to see what happened to the 'tell Amy his doubts right away' plan. But Ned says that once he saw how much effort Amy had put into their pool date he couldn't do it.
KYLE: You chickened out.
NED: No, I realised I was being an idiot. Amy's amazing, I shouldn't be pumping the brakes on the relationship, I should be leaning into it.
KYLE: Dude you're giving me whiplash.
NED: I know, but now I'm sure.
Kyle doesn't appear to believe one word Ned says.
Ramsay Street
Hendrix, Mackenzie and Harlow go for a walk to the shops. They try to make a decision on what movie they're going to watch later. "Mackenzie, I love you, but we are not watching Hairspray again," Hendrix jokingly warns. Harlow notices Amy and Ned returning to No.30 and tells Mac and Hendrix she'll catch up with them in a sec. She overhears Ned and Amy plan a date for later, and when Amy goes inside the house, Harlow calls out to Ned.
HARLOW: Are you seriously back together with Amy?
NED: Yeah I worked out what I wanted.
HARLOW: After I told you she treats you like garbage?
NED: All right, Harlow, I think you might be getting a little bit jealous.
HARLOW: (scoffing) What, you think I'm just dying to have sex with you again? That you were so good that I lost my ability to be objective? I'm trying to be a good friend here, Ned.
NED: Okay well maybe you should stop giving me advice for a while.
HARLOW: Fine, go back to being her whipping boy. Just don't come to me when it turns out you're still not enough for her.
Erinsborough Hospital
Chloe tells David to call if he needs anything, even if it's the middle of the night. Chloe passes Freya on her way out of the reception area, and Freya is taken aback when Chloe doesn't return her greeting. Freya then notices how tired David looks and asks when the last time he slept was. "I don't have time to sleep," David replies. "Aaron needs me." Freya knows he can't keep this no-sleep schedule up, though, and guesses that he's been having nightmares.
DAVID: It doesn't matter if I'm asleep or awake, I can't stop seeing Aaron lying there. Or Gareth dying.
FREYA: Okay, well Gareth? He is not worth feeling this way. Everything that happened to him was a consequence of his actions. His choices, not yours.
DAVID: I don't know if the law would agree with you.
FREYA: You didn't kill him, David. You didn't. So don't let him ruin your life.
Vineyard Restaurant
Leo guides Amy and Ned inside to where he has a special table set up for them. Smiling, Amy says she didn't realise the vineyard did degustation, but Ned says he called in a favour. Leo gives them some space and Amy worries it'll cost Ned a fortune, but Ned jokes that he knows the owner. Amy then hopes she didn't pressure Ned into doing something extravagant because she was so "Amy" on the rooftop. "No, the only reason I'm doing this is because I want to spoil you," Ned reassures her, holding her hand.
Number 24 Sunroom
Mackenzie finds Harlow wallowing and tells her she's missing the movie. Realising her friend's in a weird mood, Mackenzie sits down and asks Harlow to spill what's bothering her. Harlow admits she's just a bit stuck on what happened while her and Ned were away. Mackenzie says it's understandable as the situation must have been scary, but Harlow tells her it was quite the opposite.
HARLOW: I knew I'd be okay as long as Ned and I were in it together. But as soon as we've come back things have been really strange between us. It's like we went through this massive thing together, and now we don't know how to talk to each other in the real world.
MACKENZIE: Maybe he's just not ready to go there.
HARLOW: Whatever it is it's driving me crazy.
MACKENZIE: You two spent, what, twenty-four hours straight in a life or death situation? It might be good for you two to get some space from that.
Erinsborough Hospital
Dean wheels his cleaning cart by Aaron's room and can't help going in when he realises no one else is in there and Aaron is sleeping. He notices a book sticking out of Aaron's backpack and discovers it's the 'Never Let Me Go' one he loaned David. Looking annoyed, Dean takes the book and throws it into his cleaning bin. David rounds the corner and is peeved when he sees Dean, asking what he's doing. Dean flat out asks why David gave his book to Aaron, but David's confused and says he didn't.
DEAN: (sighing) Then he must have taken it from you.
DAVID: I'm not having this conversation right now.
DEAN: David I'm really worried about you. Do you honestly not see how possessive he is?
DAVID: Aaron isn't possessive.
DEAN: You don't have to stand by him just because he's injured. He will be okay if you leave. Isla will be okay.
DAVID: (angry) You have no idea what you're talking about. Just leave us alone.
But it doesn't look as though Dean's going to cooperate.
Vineyard Restaurant
Amy can't help but wonder if Ned actually meant to kiss her today because he seemed surprised by his own actions. Ned confesses he didn't know he was going to kiss her, but he doesn't regret it, which makes Amy relieved. She tells Ned she doesn't want to mess things up with him - she knows she's asked a lot of him in the past and hasn't put him first at any stage of their relationship.
NED: Can I ask you something? If you could do it over again, would you choose me from the very start?
AMY: No - but I don't mean it like that. It's just, that would have been rushing things, and that's what I do. Like, you don't get married to a gay man on two separate occasions if you weren't in a bit of a hurry. I've rushed into business ideas, and motherhood, living situations, but not you. It has been a weird, wild, rocky road but I feel like that's let us really get to know each other. And that's how I know, without a doubt, I love you.
NED: (stunned) You do?
AMY: That's why I was going to River Bend to tell you. Yeah, I do. I really love you.
NED: (smiling) I love you too.
Erinsborough Hospital
David sees that Dean's cleaning bin is still outside Aaron's room. He rushes in when he hears Aaron yelling at Dean to get out. Dean yells back that Aaron "needed to know", but David angrily wants to know what Dean's gone and done. David's heart sinks when he sees that Aaron is crying.
