They lean in to kiss again but have to stop and act like nothing happened when Jane suddenly arrives home. Nicolette asks how her mum's check-up went ("Fine, everything was good," Jane replies), then goes to her room to get dressed. Noticing the weird vibe, Jane quietly asks Chloe if she and Nic had a fight. Chloe claims everything is great, but Jane doesn't appear to believe her.

Kyle's in a much better mood now he's on anti-nausea meds and wants to have a look through bridal magazines with Roxy while he has the stamina. Roxy is unsure about stressing him out, but Kyle claims he only has to get through a few more bouts of chemo then they can start looking at wedding venues. Sheila joins them and Kyle asks her to find his suit so he can wear it to the upcoming Police Ball. Sheila and Roxy are worried about him making it through the night, but Kyle's determined to support Levi and treat Roxy to a nice evening. The women feel somewhat better when Kyle says David will be there to keep an eye on him.
Number 30
Toadie and Mel arrive home with the kids after going to the park. Mackenzie has a chat with Nell and notices her dress is a little grubby, offering to wash it for her. "No, mummy wants me to keep it on," Nell replies, much to Toadie and Mel's concern. While Mackenzie keeps the kids occupied in the lounge room, Toadie and Mel have a chat in the kitchen about Nell's behaviour becoming unhealthy. Melanie thinks Nell might just need a little more time to move on, but Toadie's not so sure.
Number 32
Chloe explains to David and Jane that she came over to mind Isla while Nicolette showered and changed, but Nic's been in her room for a long time now. Jane goes to check on Nic while David observes how twitchy Chloe's acting. "Did you and Nic have a fight?" David sighs, much to Chloe's chagrin. "Why does everyone always jump to that conclusion?" Chloe retorts. She explains that Nic kissed her, which surprises David. They pause when they hear an exasperated, "oh, Nicolette!" from down the hallway, Chloe surmising everyone knows the truth now. Chloe also feels like she shouldn't leave until she understands how Nicolette's feeling. Jane and Nicolette return to the kitchen and Jane feels as though she and David should give the girls space. But Nic says she'll go for a walk with Chloe instead.
Ramsay Street
Toadie and Melanie are having a picnic on the #30 front lawn with Nell and Hugo. Forming a plan, Toadie gets a piece of cake for Nell and 'accidentally' drops it on her dress so they'll have to wash it. But Nell claims it'll be fine. Melanie then thinks they should play her favourite game - taking turns saying something they've learnt recently, and something they're grateful for. Nell goes first.
NELL: I learnt about renewable energy, like the wind and the sun.
TOADIE: Wow, I'd like to hear more about that.
MELANIE: And what are you grateful for?
NELL: (taking the crystal ball out of her bag) I'm grateful for getting to talk to mummy with this.
Toadie and Mel swap uneasy looks.

Hendrix and Mackenzie are showing Susan and Karl photos of their trip when Kyle calls in. He's there to ask Hendrix for a favour; "I need you and Mackenzie to go dress shopping for me." Kyle explains that he wants to buy something fancy for Roxy to wear to the Police Ball. Susan thinks the whole night sounds so romantic, but Karl bluntly replies that ticket prices are astronomical. Hendrix is happy to help Kyle but is not sure where to start, so Susan suggests a place called Estella's in Eden Hills. Mackenzie asks if Kyle knows Roxy's size, but Kyle's brought over one of Roxy's old dresses for comparison. He then hands Hendrix his credit card to use.
KYLE: Please just keep it under five hundy, all right? I wrote the PIN code on the back: it's 1111.
HENDRIX: (blinking and nodding slowly at Kyle's choice of PIN)
Susan tells Kyle that Roxy is going to love this thoughtful gesture of how much he loves her. "Any woman would," she adds, turning pointedly to Karl before leaving the room. The remaining trio also give Karl a look. "Something tells me that Susan wants to go to the ball," Mackenzie smirks, but Karl is adamant he won't be spending so much on one night of frivolity.
Lassiters Rotunda
Nicolette makes small talk with Chloe as they walk across the bridge, confessing that she's trying to work up to discussing the kiss. Chloe says she was surprised they kissed that quickly, but she's definitely on board if Nicolette wants to be together again. Nicolette is grateful they're being honest with each other, but in the spirit of honesty she admits that the kiss was a one-off for her. Confused, Chloe says that Nic was the one who initiated it, but Nic says she's been struggling with how she felt and thought she'd seize the moment to find out.
CHLOE: What about how I feel? What we had we can get it back.
NICOLETTE: No we can't.
CHLOE: I disagree.
NICOLETTE: (gently) You can't disagree, Chlo. I'm telling you how I feel.
CHLOE: (getting teary) So that's it?
NICOLETTE: We'll still be in each other's lives because of Isla and our friendship.
CHLOE: But nothing more?
Nicolette shakes her head and Chloe tries to remain stoic about it all.
Number 28
Mackenzie pours herself and Hendrix a red wine while Hendrix puts the finishing touches on the pasta he's making. Karl and Susan are out for dinner at Lanzinis. The teens are pleased with their efforts on purchasing Roxy a dress earlier and clink their wine glasses together. Some alcohol spills on the floor just as there's a knock at the door. Mac answers and she and Hendrix are confused when a guy delivers a dress from Estella's. Hendrix thought he put the delivery down for #26 but figures he made a mistake. While Mac unzips the garment bag to have another look, Hendrix dishes up the pasta. But when he brings the bowl over to Mac he accidentally slips over the wine and throws the pasta onto the dress. Hendrix and Mackenzie are horrified.
Ramsay Street
Toadie packs up the picnic with Nell while Mel and Hugo are inside. Approaching the crystal ball topic with caution, Toadie admits to Nell that sometimes adults are wrong about some things. Like when Mel was at the Christmas party, she was only pretending to talk with people through the crystal ball and she thought everyone understood that.
TOADIE: I just want to make sure that you understand that we can't talk to mummy through the crystal ball.
Nell doesn't respond, but looks a little bit sad.
Number 28
Hendrix and Mackenzie have owned up and shown Kyle the damage they did to the dress. Kyle asks if it can be washed, but Mac says the stain trio of oil, red wine and tomato would be pretty hard to remove. Hendrix can see how annoyed Kyle is and apologises for being a clumsy idiot.
HENDRIX: Maybe she can wear a chunky necklace or a scarf or something.
KYLE: (opening the garment bag to reveal the crime scene that is the dress)
MACKENZIE: I think she'd need a poncho.
Kyle frustratedly says that treating Roxy to one good night was going to be a bright spark in the worst week of his life. Hendrix tells him that it might take a few weeks but he'll pay him back every cent.
The Flamingo Bar Interior/Number 32
Chloe sits by herself in the bar with a glass of wine. She looks at photos on her phone of herself and Nicolette in happier times.
Meanwhile at #32, Nicolette tells Jane, David and Aaron that she made the right decision about Chloe. "I don't want to get back together," she says, earning a look of surprise from Jane. Nic says she'll always love Chloe, but that part of their relationship is over. Aaron asks how Chloe took the news and Nicolette admits it's not what Chloe wanted to hear, but eventually she'll see it's for the best.
Looking miserable, Chloe wipes away some tears and wallows over her wine.
Number 30
Toadie and Mel are trying to encourage Nell to eat her dinner, but she refuses. She can't even be swayed with a bribe from her dad, choosing to go to her room and read instead. Mel tells Toadie she feels awful and wants to fix things, but Toadie says Nell is confused enough already so maybe they should leave things for now.
Number 26 Backyard
Sheila tries to tell Kyle the ruined dress is only a small setback in the grand scheme of things. Kyle says he might have been a little bit tough on Hendrix, but Sheila's sure he'll understand. Roxy suddenly races into the backyard wearing a yellow dress and her ugg boots, delighted that Kyle surprised her with a gown. Kyle and Sheila are bewildered when they see the dress is in pristine condition, but are just stoked that Roxy is stoked.
Number 30
Toadie tells Melanie he managed to convince Nell to put on her pyjamas so he could wash the dress. But Nellyfish may not be so happy in the morning when she learns Toadie took away the crystal ball. Melanie would still like another chance to speak with Nell tomorrow because she understands why she's clinging onto the idea.
MELANIE: It's not just about Sonya. She's a dreamer, I was the same when I was a kid. She's looking for connections and signs and things to explain the world. Whatever you've tried hasn't worked, please let me have a go.
TOADIE: The poor kid has been through so much losing her mum. I'm worried that she's going to feel like she's losing her all over again.
MELANIE: Well if that happens we get some professional help.
TOADIE: She has responded well to that before.
MELANIE: So is that a yes? Do I get to try my way?
TOADIE: She might wake up in her pj's and just be completely over it.
MELANIE: But if she isn't?
TOADIE: Let's just wait and see.
Harold's Café
Aaron has taken Isla to check in with Chloe, but Chloe tells her brother she's fine. It was a shock to have her hopes raised then dashed again, but she'll just have to accept it and move on. Aaron gets she's being really courageous about it all, but if she needs a shoulder to cry on he's there. Nicolette and Jane suddenly appear, so Chloe puts on the stoic act again and tells Nic she's glad she was brave enough to call time on everything. Nic says she just wanted to preserve the friendship, which Chloe agrees with. Jane wonders if they should all have a coffee together, but Chloe says she's got a big work day tomorrow and needs to head off. When she reaches the safety of the door she lets her guard down and her forced smile fades into a despondent look.
Number 28
Hendrix and Mackenzie are mystified when Kyle drops in to thank them for restoring Roxy's dress. He's thrilled to bits and gives them both a high five for their efforts. When he goes, Mac and Hendo are even more confused and wonder if someone else fixed the problem. The Kennedys arrive home from their dinner and the mystery is suddenly solved when Karl asks if something was delivered today. Turns out Karl had decided to take Susan to the ball after all and got a dress for her from Estella's. He's upset when he sees the state the dress is in, but Susan's positively giddy that Karl wanted to surprise her. She drags him off to the bedroom, much to Hendrix and Mackenzie's mortification.
Number 30
The next morning Nell rushes out into the kitchen and asks Toadie and Mel where her dress and crystal ball are. Toadie explains that the dress is in the wash, and there was no way she'd sleep well with the ball in her bed. Nell says she needs the items, then realises Toadie has put the ball on top of the fridge. She gets a chair so she can reach it, but Toadie grabs the crystal ball away from her. He accidentally drops it in the process and it smashes on the ground. Heartbroken, Nell kneels on the floor and yells out for her mum.
