Erinsborough Hospital
A groaning Chloe is wheeled in on a stretcher by a nurse. Nicolette, who is working and in the corridor outside, looks worried. Pierce turns up, explaining to Nicolette that Chloe was out walking alone, then started getting pains.
PIERCE: She thinks she's losing the baby. I don't know what to do.
NICOLETTE: Don't get ahead of yourself. Pain can mean anything. Wait until a doctor can examine her, okay?
Pierce wants to go in the room and be with Chloe, but Nicolette says it might not be possible right now, so goes in to check on her herself. We hear Chloe telling the nurse she's in persistent, severe pain. She looks tearfully through the glass at Pierce.

Rose comes in, giving Toadie her usual patter, but he's looking very angry.
TOADIE: Have you been using me to get information on your ex-husband?
He explains that he's been speaking to Hendrix, and hopes he's exaggerating. He asks Rose if James Solomon is her husband.
ROSE: ... Yes. But all of the information that I got is stuff that we probably need anyway. So no harm's been done, right?
TOADIE: You pretended to be me to get confidential information on my client! Harm has been done. And you were going to forge my signature on legally binding documents. That could cost me my licence!
ROSE: Okay, okay, I have done everything wrong. But you have to understand it's because I'm in the middle of the most terrible, horrible, ugly divorce. I would never, ever normally behave like this. But if I don't find out what James is hiding, he is going to walk away with everything, and leave me with nothing - not even my kids. They are with him now because I can't support them. If this goes badly, he is going to get to keep them permanently.
TOADIE: And that is awful. But what you have done and what you were planning on doing could ruin me.
ROSE: I know. And I'm so sorry. Because you are such a nice man. And I... I so like working for you. So if we could just sit down and sort this out...
TOADIE: No, Rose, there is nothing to sort out. You're fired.
Harold's Café
Dipi is in the kitchen when Shane turns up, claiming to have been getting cabin fever at home. He asks if she fancies a walk or a talk, but Dipi makes it clear she's very busy.
SHANE: It doesn't have to be right now. I just want you to know that I'm here, and I'm available, and I'm working on myself. I've got this journal, and I'm writing in it every day, and it's got thoughts and feelings and... it's really helping. And I want to share that with you.
But Dipi's clearly not in the mood for connecting with Shane, and says she's busy with party planners, so needs him to clear out. He says he'll grab a coffee for now and begins to say he'll see if she's less busy later, but the phone rings and she has to get it (it's Susan). Shane walks out sheepishly, feeling redundant.
The Waterhole
Toadie comes in with Karl; he's been telling him about the situation with Rose, and explains how disappointed he is in her.
TOADIE: I didn't think she was like that.
KARL: Mm. It is a huge betrayal.
TOADIE: Having to stand there while she packed up her stuff, not knowing what to say or what to do...
Karl tells Toadie he's lucky the whole thing's been nipped in the bud, though, or it could've been much worse.
TOADIE: I don't feel lucky. I feel like an idiot.
KARL: Come on, Toad - you couldn't possibly have known what she was up to. You didn't know her connection to your client, and she was very sneaky.
TOADIE: It's not the first time I've been sucked in, though, is it? It's like I've got a giant neon flashing sign above my head - 'con artists welcome'.
KARL: You're kind and you're trusting, and those are two very admirable qualities. The only person who should be hating herself right now is Rose.
Erinsborough Hospital
Chloe is lying in bed, her eyes wet with tears. Nicolette leaves the room to give Pierce an update; Chloe's going to be fine.
PIERCE: And the baby?
NICOLETTE: ... You should probably go in there.
Pierce obeys, and Nicolette closes the door to let them talk, but watches them through the glass. Chloe starts sobbing again as Pierce sits with her.
Rebecchi Law
An upset Rose rushes into the office to talk to Toadie. She understands she can't have her job back, but wanted a chance to better explain herself.
ROSE: My marriage to James was everything to me. I gave up my career; I stayed at home to raise our kids; but I also helped him to start our businesses from scratch. And I helped him make them successful. I deserve my fair share.
TOADIE: Then you should speak to a divorce lawyer.
ROSE: I have - several - but James is a vindictive man. He will just keep putting everything he owns into this shell corporation to avoid paying up. You have seen his paperwork. You know this is possible. But it's not about the money. It's about my kids. James will use my financial status as proof that I can't support them, so that he can keep custody. I can't... I will not let that happen. Surely you can appreciate that.
TOADIE: Not hearing anything new, Rose. So why don't we just cut to the chase, and you tell me what you want from me?
ROSE: I need you to promise that you won't tell James about this. TOADIE: You're in no position to be asking for any favours.
ROSE: I know. But if you tell James, then that's it, I'm ruined. He will just keep putting his assets where I can't get to them. My kids don't deserve to be without their mother. I'm begging you - if you can't do this for me, do this for them. Please. Please pretend this never happened.
The Waterhole
Toadie encounters Karl again, and updates him on the Rose situation. He explains he could feel himself getting sucked in again by her, especially when she said she could lose her kids.
KARL: Is that a real possibility?
TOADIE: I dunno. I couldn't listen anymore, so I asked her to leave. And that's when she gave me a parting gift - a whoopee cushion.
KARL: Right. That's, umm... thoughtful!
TOADIE: It's an in-joke. But I dunno, it might just be a tactic to get back on side so she can get what she wants. I don't know what to think anymore.
Karl asks if her ex really is hiding assets; Toadie says it's certainly possible, but how his client wants to handle his divorce is none of Toadie's business. Nonetheless, Karl says he can understand why Rose would be feeling desperate. Toadie agrees, but says she's put him in a very difficult position.
TOADIE: I'm getting paid by him. He's done nothing wrong by me. I should totally be on his side.
KARL: Except you're not. I know you, Toad - I can see it in your eyes.
Toadie gets a text from Yashvi, saying she wants him to pick up some milk. Toadie bitterly says she could have asked Shane, given he has plenty of time on his hands. Karl looks worried as Toadie leaves.
Harold's Café
Toadie finds Shane sitting at a table in Harold's, and pointedly mentions the milk, wondering why Shane isn't at home helping Yashvi with dinner. Shane explains he's waiting for some alone-time with Dipi, but that she's busy catering for Chloe's baby shower.
TOADIE: So you're just hanging around like a bad smell?
SHANE: Well, yeah. I don't want to get in the way; things are touchy enough as it is. But at least if I'm here, she can see that I'm serious about making things right with her.
TOADIE: Here's a different idea - why don't you offer to help? Might get you a few more brownie points than just sitting around on your backside.
SHANE: Nah. Nah, she'd probably just say no.
TOADIE: Try asking. And if she does say no, then you can come home and give me a hand there.
Shane takes Toadie's advice, and asks Dipi if she needs any help with anything. Dipi immediately guesses it was Toadie's idea. Shane says he's ready and willing, but she doesn't look too keen...
Erinsborough Hospital
Pierce is still sitting with Chloe, when Nicolette comes in. She says the doctor is on her way to talk Chloe through the next steps. But Pierce pleads with Nicolette to fill them in, since she's here already.
NICOLETTE: Chloe, from your ultrasound, we know you miscarried due to cervical insufficiency. But the ultrasound also showed that the miscarriage was incomplete, so we're going to have to perform a dilation and curette, which is really important or you could develop an infection.
Nicolette says it's a simple procedure and takes 15-20 minutes, but she'll need a general anaesthetic; patients can normally go home after a couple of hours. Nicolette goes to find the doctor for them.
CHLOE: So how long until you say, 'I told you so'? For leaving the house when you wanted me to stay home?
PIERCE: Hey - I don't blame you for what happened! I just hate that you had to go through it all alone. Must've been terrifying. But hey, I'm here now, okay? I'm not going anywhere.
Chloe doesn't look much reassured.
Harold's Café
Shane is making a nuisance of himself in the kitchen, loudly dropping pots and pans, while Dipi serves Susan with her takeaway order. Susan quietly asks if Shane's alright in the kitchen; Dipi explains he offered to help out because she was busy with the baby shower prep.
DIPI: I asked him to whip the cream, which I know he can do; but for some reason, he's been faffing about in there for ages.
SUSAN: Well, I'm sure the end result will be delicious (smells something) Unless whipped cream can burn?
Sure enough, Shane has set something on fire in the kitchen, and there's smoke everywhere. He insists it's all under control, but Dipi is annoyed.
Erinsborough Hospital
Jane comes to see how Nicolette's first day at work is going, and to offer to take her out for dinner. Nicolette explains that one of her patients has 'just had a procedure' and wants to stick around to see how she is before she clocks off. Jane senses something's wrong; Nicolette says she's fine, but that it's been a big first day.
Jane tells her to get an early night; they can do dinner another time. But before she goes, she asks if she will see Nicolette at Chloe's baby shower. Nicolette looks awkward, as she can't break patient confidentiality. She just says she's not sure.
JANE: Well, if it all feels too weird, I'm sure you'll let Chloe know in the nicest possible way. Last thing you want to do is spoil her happy day.
Jane leaves, and Nicolette looks upset as she looks towards the room where Chloe's being treated.
Rebecchi Law
We enter a musical montage; Toadie is working late at the office, but looks distracted, presumably because he's thinking about Rose and her situation.
Harold's Café
Shane continues to lurk about in the kitchen being clumsy, while Dipi looks increasingly frustrated. She goes to lock the door for closing, and sighs.
Erinsborough Hospital
A tearful Pierce waits next to Chloe's bed while she sleeps following the procedure. At reception, Nicolette is trying to work, but also looks upset.
Chloe wakes up as the music ends, and Pierce tells her they can head home as soon as she's ready. She asks for five more minutes. Chloe's phone rings; it's Aaron, but Chloe tells Pierce not to answer it.
CHLOE: It's the last night of his holiday with David and Mum. They should enjoy themselves.
PIERCE: Okay. But we should start calling people soon, and let them know that the baby shower won't be happening.
CHLOE: Let's wait until morning. Aaron and David will be back with Mum by then, and Hendrix will be around after Harlow flies out. We can tell everyone together as a family, face-to-face. That'd be best, especially for Mum (...) and we can message everyone else after that.
Pierce doesn't look convinced, but agrees 'if that's how you want to handle it'. Chloe has a distant look in her eyes.
Harold's Café
Shane tells Dipi that the kitchen is all tidied up now, but she can barely look at him as she puts chairs on the tables. He promises to replace the cream in the morning.
SHANE: Only this time when I whip it, I'll try not to do it with the caramel sauce!
DIPI: (...) You know what, Shane? I think you need to forget about trying to help me, and just focus on your recovery.
SHANE: Yeah, but that's what I was trying to do today. I wanted to talk with you about it, remember?
DIPI: And that's lovely, but I've got my hands full keeping our family financially afloat.
SHANE: Okay, that's not fair - you know I'd be working if I could.
DIPI: Yeah, and that's just it, isn't it? You shouldn't be working, or trying to help me, or even be here at all. You should be in rehab, getting help from professional people to keep you on track. I'm sorry, but you know this is how I feel. And right now, I don't have the time, patience or energy to keep fixing your mistakes.
Dipi walks off into the kitchen, leaving Shane perturbed.

The following morning, Nicolette asks Chloe how she slept.
CHLOE: Like a log.
NICOLETTE: Painkillers will do that. How are you feeling overall?
CHLOE: Honestly, I feel... empty.
NICOLETTE: Chloe, I am so sorry I left you alone yesterday.
CHLOE: Why? You had to go to work. I'm the one who wanted to stay and think about things.
NICOLETTE: I just hate that you had to go through it alone.
CHLOE: That's exactly what Pierce said.
NICOLETTE: Guess it means we both care about you.
CHLOE: Umm, those thoughts I was having about Pierce and the baby...
But Pierce comes in, interrupting, and Chloe changes tack.
CHLOE (to Nicolette): Thank you, for everything. You made a horrible situation way less horrible.
PIERCE: Yeah, sure did. I appreciate you helping me move all the baby stuff into the garage, too. And I'm glad that you're here today. I mean, not that anything else should go wrong, but if it did, I know Chloe would be in good hands.
At this point, Aaron comes in with Fay in the wheelchair, back from their break. Aaron goes off to unpack his own bags, promising Fay he'll see her later. Fay says she had a lovely time in the Whitsundays, but...
FAY: I just couldn't stop thinking about you and the baby. I may not be around to see the little one, but I am so happy to be here to celebrate with you both today.
Everyone looks awkward, and Chloe tries to speak, but Fay continues.
FAY: Every minute is precious. And I just want to enjoy this special time with you.
PIERCE: Well, actually, Fay, we were gonna wait for the rest of the family, but since you're here, I think you should know -
CHLOE: ... we're starting the pre-shower party right now! I want to enjoy this special time, too. You're here, you're excited - let's crack the champagne.
Fay looks thrilled, but Pierce and Nicolette look very worried.
