- David flatlines while Aaron is visiting, and doctors work to resuscitate him
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul and Aaron are frantic with worry in the corridor, as the doctors do all they can to resuscitate David. Karl administers a shock to restart his heart, and administers adrenaline...
A road somewhere
Kyle insists to Amy that he'd know if he'd hit someone in the ute. But she says the headlight wouldn't be smashed if he'd only hit the kerb. She asks if the possibility occurred to him when he heard about David, but Kyle insists he didn't know David was hit on Power Road.
KYLE: Do you think I'd hide something like this?! Oh, I've just been so tired lately! This could just be a coincidence, okay? Let's go down to Power Road, and we'll check if there's anything -
But Amy has found some orange paint on the front of the ute - and points out that David's bike is painted orange...
Harold's Café
Gary is fixing Dipi's coffee machine, but says the boiler on it needs servicing. Meanwhile, Shane brings Toadie a box of files for the lawsuit and asks if he needs any more help. Conscious of what Dipi's said to him, Toadie says he's all good now; Shane is probably needed here. Toadie leaves.
SHANE: Did you say something to him?
DIPI: Well, you weren't listening to me, so I asked him not to ask you for any more help.
SHANE: Dipi...
DIPI: No, you don't seem to understand. His lawsuit is threatening our livelihood - my business, your job.
SHANE: I'm not an idiot. I understand.
DIPI: Really? Then why are you always helping him, whilst poor Gary has to look at the coffee machine?
GARY: (...) Yeah, I'm happy to help. I don't like to see any businesses struggling, but this whole situation is messy.
DIPI: Thanks Gary, and I appreciate that. It's nice to have some support for a change.
SHANE: I would've got around to it.
DIPI: Really, just like you got round to putting in the soya milk order?
SHANE: Sorry, I forgot.
DIPI: Again.
SHANE: Well, you're not the only one under pressure! Toadie's stressed out of his mind.
DIPI: Well, I am your wife. I'm the one you should be prioritising.
Feeling awkward, Gary leaves them to their argument.
SHANE: Please don't do this.
DIPI: Do what? Tell you that I'm upset?
SHANE: Play the martyr. I'm stuck in the middle trying to please everyone, and I can't win (...) I don't know what you want from me!
DIPI: I just want you to be on my side! Just one time - be on my side! I'm gonna get the soya milk.
She walks out.
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron and Paul are still waiting in the corridor. Karl emerges, and tells them they've resuscitated David successfully, and that he's stable. The relief is palpable.
Power Road
Kyle is trying to piece together what happened last night.
We see a flashback to him turning the corner of Power Road in Amy's ute in the dark. He nods off at the wheel, and the ute smashes into David. When Kyle wakes up and comes to a halt, he checks the road behind him in his mirrors, but can't see anything. Kyle gets a text from Amy, asking where he is - so he starts up the ute and drives on. We pan across to David, lying unconscious in the road.
Back in the present, Kyle looks guilty
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron and Paul are by David's bedside, Aaron stroking David's hair.
Erinsborough Police Station
An emotional Kyle is giving his statement to the police.
KYLE: I turned down Power Road - I was so tired. I know I shouldn't've been driving. But I fell asleep. And next thing I know, I felt a jolt. If I knew that I'd hit someone, I never would've left.
Erinsborough Hospital
Karl comes in to check on David, who's still unconscious. Paul and Aaron stand by.
Erinsborough Police Station
Amy is waiting for Kyle when he comes out of the interview room. They look at one another sadly.
Erinsborough Hospital
Karl explains to Aaron and Paul that David went into cardiac arrest because of residual trauma from the accident and the operation, but he's fully stabilised now.
AARON: So it's not gonna happen again, is it?
KARL: I wish I could say it won't. But he's getting the very best of care; we're doing everything that we can for him.
PAUL: Yeah. Thanks, Karl.
Karl encourages the pair of them to rest and eat something. Aaron doesn't want to leave David, so Paul goes to fetch something from the Caféteria for them. Karl leaves too, promising to check in later. Still tearful, Aaron kisses David on the forehead.
AARON: You've got to pull through this, Boo. You've got so much more to give.
As Aaron holds David's hand, it starts to move, and David opens his eyes...
AARON: David?! ... Hey!
Aaron laughs with relief.
Lassiter's Complex
Kyle tells Amy that the police are testing the paint on the ute to see if it was from David's bike. After that, he'll be charged with dangerous driving and failure to render assistance.
KYLE: It'll be upgraded to culpable driving, if David...
AMY: You came forward as soon as you realised.
KYLE: It doesn't change what I did.
Amy gets a text, telling her David's awake. Kyle gasps with relief. He says he wants to be the one to tell David and Aaron that he was responsible.
AMY: Kyle... Dad's gonna find out, too.
KYLE: Yeah. I know.
The Waterhole
Dipi is at the bar chatting to Sheila. Gary comes over, and offers to drop a spare part in for her coffee machine later. She thanks him, and apologises for him getting caught in the middle between her and Shane earlier - as well as offering her condolences over what happened with Prue, saying he deserved better.
GARY: Let's face it, it's the story of my life. So how are you holding together, since Kirsha flew the coop? I know you still miss her.
DIPI: Yeah - that, and a bunch of other things that'd take an afternoon to explain.
GARY: Oh, I've got an afternoon if you have. I'll tell you what - I'll even buy the drinks, eh?
DIPI: Ah, I've got to get back to work... No, you know what? Someone else can handle it.
She joins Gary at the bar.
Erinsborough Hospital
Terese comforts a tearful Paul in the waiting area.
PAUL: I honestly thought I was watching my son die.
TERESE: Hey, he's going to be fine. That's all you have to focus on.
PAUL: Yeah. You know, whatever happens, I will be there for him all the way.
TERESE: And I'll be there for you.
PAUL: Oh, Terese, I'm so sorry I didn't notice what the stress of the past month was doing to you.
TERESE: How could you have known?
PAUL: Because it was partly my fault. Everything that's been going on at the hotel -
TERESE: Was all on me. Owning up to the hidden cameras was a relief, Paul. And if I'm gonna recover from this relapse, then I need to own it. I can't blame anyone.
PAUL: Alright. Well, as long as you know you're not gonna be doing it alone, okay?
TERESE: Thank you. Because I can't.
Susan arrives to offer her help, and Paul goes to see what the latest is with David. Terese asks Susan if she's free later today. Susan says absolutely - whatever Terese needs.
Harold's Café
Toadie comes in for a coffee from Shane.
SHANE: Sure. Just don't ask for soya milk.
TOADIE: Why would I?
SHANE: Dipi went out to get some, and she never came back.
Shane shows Toadie a text from Dipi, saying she's taking the afternoon off in The Waterhole. He explains that they argued over Shane helping Toadie, and it all blew up - and now Shane's stuck here with the leaky coffee machine!
SHANE: I made the mistake of trying to please everyone.
TOADIE: See, that's where I think you're going wrong, mate. I'm with Dipi; she needs a bit of love right now. This class action is messing with everyone's head, and it's just gonna get harder before it's over.
SHANE: Which is why you need my help.
TOADIE: No, I will manage. You need to look after your marriage. Fix things with Dip.
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron, Paul and Terese are chatting to David. Paul explains that the police haven't found person responsible for knocking him down yet, but that he's on the case - they'll get to the bottom of it. David himself can't remember anything, but says he knows Terese found him, and thanks her. Paul gets a call from his contact in the police, and Karl comes in to check on David.
Karl explains that they need to do some more tests on David before they consider discharging him, so he'll probably need to be here for another week. Paul comes in again; he says that somebody's come forward to the police about hitting David. They haven't given him a name, but he's going to head down to the station to push for more information.
DAVID: Dad...
PAUL: See you soon.
TERESE (to David): It's okay. It's just his way of showing you how much he loves you.
KARL: It's good that someone's come forward.
AARON: Yeah. But look, you're okay - and that's all that matters to me.
The Waterhole
Gary and Dipi are having a good old chinwag over drinks at the bar, while Sheila serves tables in the background. Gary invites Dipi to come and see 'the bats flying over at dusk' tonight, whatever that means, and she agrees.
GARY: Thanks, Dip - this is exactly what I needed.
DIPI: Same.
As Gary heads to the bathroom, Shane comes in. Dipi explains she just needed some time out, and Shane says it's fine; he's asked Yashvi to cover at the café tonight, so that the pair of them can go to a bar Dipi wanted to visit, where they play show tunes on the piano.
DIPI: You really want to do that?
SHANE: For you? Course I do!
DIPI: Well, that's really nice, Shane. But actually, I've already made plans.
SHANE: Oh, right, with Sheila. Yeah, okay.
DIPI: Actually, no, I -
SHANE: No, no, it's probably good for you to have a girls' night out. Bit of champers, bit of gossip - I'm okay with that.
DIPI (annoyed): Oh, you - you're okay with that? Well, I'm glad I've got your permission (!)
SHANE: What? No -
DIPI: Yeah, what a lucky wife I am to have a husband who lets me spend time with my friends (!)
SHANE: Hey, no, I didn't -
DIPI: Yeah, don't worry. I won't stay out past curfew (!)
Dipi walks off, wielding her cartons of soya milk passive-aggressively as she goes. Shane looks bewildered.
Erinsborough Hospital
Kyle and Amy are visiting David. Kyle has told him and Aaron he was responsible for hitting David.
AARON: I don't even know what to say.
KYLE: David, I'm so sorry. I was just so tired; I just... I shouldn't have been on the road. I've got no excuse.
AARON: How did you not know? Did you not get out of the car when you stopped?
KYLE: I didn't see anything. I just... I thought I'd hit the kerb, or something. I'm doing whatever the police tell me to, and I'll take whatever charges I get.
DAVID: Thank you for telling me. I need some time to... process.
KYLE: Yeah, course, mate.
Amy says she's going to stay here for now - she's not ready to leave yet. So Kyle heads out into the corridor alone, just as Paul's turning the corner. Paul grabs Kyle by the collar, and Amy rushes out to separate them.
PAUL: You! You nearly killed my son!
AMY: Dad! This is not the time or the place!
Amy marches Paul out of the building, as Kyle walks guiltily in the other direction.

Terese admits to Susan that she's started drinking again, as a means of dealing with her stress. Susan says it's understandable given all the pressure she's been under.
TERESE: The temptation never went away. And in the past, I... had Sonya.
SUSAN: Yeah, well - she was certainly a rock.
TERESE: She used to always say the right thing at the right time, and stop me from lapsing.
SUSAN: I suppose that's what a good sponsor does. And you haven't had another sponsor since Sonya?
TERESE: I wanted to, umm... I wanted to do it myself. I thought that I could, anyway.
SUSAN: There's no shame in asking for help.
TERESE: No, I know that. But it has to be somebody that I respect. And trust. Somebody like you.
SUSAN: Me? But I'm not from AA. I mean, surely you'd be better off with someone who understands your problem first-hand?
TERESE: But I'll still go to meetings. And I might even sign up to a day programme. I just need somebody who's close to the home-front.
Lassiter's Complex
Shane tells Toadie how he put his foot in it with Dipi, and that she's going out with Sheila tonight. At this point Sheila turns up, makes a crack about Toadie's lawsuit chasing away her customers, and denies that she has any plans to go out with Dipi - she's having a night in with Clive instead. Shane is baffled.
No 22
Terese is telling Susan about how Prue got to her when she was vulnerable and blackmailed her over the drinking. Susan says Harlow's a mature girl - she's sure she'll forgive Terese for letting Prue manipulate her.
TERESE: Well, I wouldn't blame her if she didn't. I mean, it got to the point where even I was convinced that Prue was right.
SUSAN: Well, she's not right! Harlow belongs here.
TERESE: I've been living in such a fog lately. Making one bad decision after the other. And even with David... I just... I could hardly focus, and I dropped my phone and it broke. I mean, that could've cost him time that he -
SUSAN: David is alive, because you found him and you acted. That's all you have to focus on.
TERESE: You know, Susan - losing my job was a massive blow. My work meant everything to me.
SUSAN: I think we all know that. Have you thought about getting another job? Clearly, not working is a trigger for you. So if you found something to focus on, to occupy yourself, that fog might start to lift.
Harold's Café
Gary and Dipi come in, having just been to see the bats. Dipi says she loved it; she'll bring the family next time. Dipi's surprised to see Shane behind the counter; he explains he told Yashvi not to worry when he learned Dipi had other plans.
SHANE: Would've been nice to know what those other plans were.
Gary gets a call from Amy, and has to rush off, leaving Dipi to talk to Shane.
DIPI: I never actually said I was going out with Sheila; you just assumed that.
SHANE: You didn't correct me.
DIPI: Well, not after you'd been so patronising towards me, no. If you'd known I went out with Gary, you wouldn't have been okay with it. You've already made it clear that you just tolerate him.
SHANE: The guy attracts trouble.
DIPI: Do you still think that?
SHANE: Well, he might be on the straight and narrow now, but for how long?
DIPI: You really need to get over this! You've stopped me talking to Gary before because of the issues it'd cause -
SHANE: Yeah. And now we've got issues, you're spending time with him instead of sorting them out.
DIPI: But you caused those issues - you and Toadie. I have no-one. I need an escape. And right now, that's Gary.
Shane looks unimpressed.
No 32
Kyle comes in, looking exhausted and distraught. He drops his keys on the table. There's a knock at the door; it's Sheila and Gary.
SHEILA: Have you eaten, love?
GARY: Amy called and told us, mate.
Kyle immediately breaks down in tears.
KYLE: I could've killed him, Dad.
SHEILA: Oh, love.
Cue a Canning family hug, as Kyle sobs on their shoulders.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul, Amy and Aaron are still with David. Paul is ranting about Kyle. David tries to stop him going on, but Paul reminds him that Kyle nearly killed him; if there's any time for Paul to overreact, it's now!
Karl comes in with some test results for David. He explains that, while they've removed one of David's kidneys because of damage sustained in the accident, the other kidney is now starting to fail.
PAUL: So what exactly does that mean, Karl?
KARL: Dialysis will be necessary.
DAVID: I need a transplant.
Everyone looks worried.
