No 32
Ned is still asleep on the couch as Scarlett makes scrambled eggs the next morning - she's rather ominously wearing a 'pick your poison' T-shirt! Ned wakes up, and she explains she's making him breakfast to say thank you for staying the night; she says she was so much more relaxed knowing he was here.
Ned looks at his phone and sees that Yashvi texted to say she was coming over, and asks if Scarlett heard her knock.
SCARLETT: No, I drifted straight off. Slept like a baby.
Ned is keen to go and see Yashvi to fix things, and bails on breakfast despite Scarlett's protestations. David appears and offers to help her eat it instead! Scarlett thanks Ned again for looking out for her. David asks what's going on...
No 22
Harlow is annoyed by the mess Roxy has made of the house, and tells her to clean it up, reminding her that Paul and Terese will be back in a few hours. Roxy would really prefer that Harlow do it all, and they argue about it - but at that moment, Terese and Paul come in having caught an earlier flight, and are appalled at the state of the place.
Harlow apologetically tells them they were just about to clean up; Terese notices one of her vases is missing, and Roxy explains about Sheila's birthday party.
ROXY: You know how rowdy the over-60s get.
Harlow says they'll replace the vase and clean the place up - but a tetchy Terese tells them not to bother; she'll do it herself. Paul shoos the girls out of the house.
No 30
Yashvi is pacing around the house when Ned turns up, explaining he's just seen her message from last night. He asks why she didn't come round like she said.
YASHVI: I did.
NED: Oh. Sorry, I mustn't have heard you knock. I crashed out on the couch pretty early.
YASHVI: Yeah, I bet you did. Wore yourself out with Scarlett - am I right?
NED: ... Sorry?
YASHVI: I saw you, practically naked on the couch with your arm around her. It was pretty obvious what you two had been up to.
NED: Okay - nothing happened between me and Scarlett. I just went round there to keep her company.
YASHVI: Oh, is that what you're calling it? (!)
NED: Yeah. Yeah, because she was freaking out because her ex-boyfriend was sending her threatening messages. She didn't want to be in the house alone.
YASHVI: She lives with Aaron, and David, and Kyle. They couldn't protect her?!
NED: They were out. And I crashed on the couch - and she slept in her own bed. Whatever you think you saw, you're wrong.
YASHVI: Seriously, you're gaslighting me now?
NED: What? No! Hey, look - I came around here because I was hoping we could sort things out.
YASHVI: Yeah, you wanted that real bad, didn't you? (!) So much so that one flash of Scarlett in her bikini made you forget all about me.
NED: This is ridiculous!
YASHVI: You've been caught out, Ned - why can't you just be honest?
NED: Because you're acting crazy, that's why.
YASHVI: Okay, how's this for crazy? We're done. Not a break. Done.
NED: Yashvi...
YASHVI: I want you to leave.
NED: Don't do this.
YASHVI: ...
Ned eventually does as he's told, and goes.
Ramsay Street
Roxy and Harlow are in Hermione, discussing where to go. Harlow is feeling bad for not staying and helping Terese with the cleaning. Ned approaches, and Roxy invites him to come and see a movie with them. Ned distractedly says he has to go to work.
Meanwhile, Amy and Kyle are returning from their luxury night at Lassiter's, courtesy of Scarlett's freebie voucher. They've had a great time, but Kyle mentions that the hot water in the hotel room wasn't working this morning.
AMY: I think you needed a cold shower anyway, babe!
Back in the car, Roxy is accusing Harlow of having her 'jocks in a knot'. Harlow asks if it doesn't bother Roxy that Terese is upset with her; Roxy retorts that people are usually upset with her for way worse than this. Amy and Kyle approach, and are told the story of Terese being mad about the messy house. Amy offers to go back in with the girls and say hello, so they can sort things out.
No 22
Terese is cleaning, but Paul is keen that they don't waste the last few hours of their leave on housework - so they start to kiss instead. Enter Amy and Kyle, and behind them, Roxy and Harlow, who offer to shout Paul and Terese lunch at The Waterhole while they clean the house. Paul and Terese decide to take them up on this, and head out for lunch.
ROXY: Don't go too crazy on that order. And use staff discount!
No 28
Bea and Finn are gardening, when Yashvi turns up, looking upset. She explains she's broken things off with Ned, because she found out he hooked up with Scarlett. Bea is sceptical that Ned would cheat, making Yashvi even more upset, as she knows what she saw.
YASHVI: I thought he respected me more than that.
BEA: I'm so sorry, Vee.
Bea hugs a tearful Yashvi.
YASHVI: I loved him for so long. I thought we were in love. But he didn't care. He just threw it all away for her.
Lassiter's Complex
Ned is coming out of Harold's, and runs into Scarlett on her way to work. He explains his plan to patch things up with Yashvi didn't go so well - adding that she thinks he and Scarlett have been fooling around together.
SCARLETT: What?! She's being paranoid. Wait - this isn't because you stayed at my place last night? Oh, I knew it was asking too much.
NED: No, this is not your fault. She should trust me, not jump to conclusions.
SCARLETT: (...) Oh, Ned, I'm so sorry for all of this.
NED: Maybe this just proves that she is too young for me. I just wish I'd seen it before this.
SCARLETT: So, things are over between you two? Like, for good?
NED: She made it pretty clear.
SCARLETT: Well, then, I am getting you a tub of ice-cream. What's your flavour? And don't turn me down like you did with breakfast, or you are a dead man!
But Ned has to get to work. Scarlett looks scheming.
The Waterhole
David is getting a coffee and spies Paul and Terese coming in. He looks frustrated but puts on a smile for them, welcoming them home. Paul invites him to join them for lunch, but David says he has to keep moving. Paul asks if he's heard from Leo - David says not for a couple of weeks.
TERESE: I just can't get over how sudden it was.
DAVID: Well, the more I think about it, the writing was on the wall. He was so down about the bar, and he hated himself for helping Elle. But I never thought he would've left. Otherwise I would've done something.
PAUL: Are you okay?
DAVID: ... It's been a tough adjustment period.
David rushes off, and Paul admits to Terese that he feels awful for David, but that he gets why Leo wanted to leave.
PAUL: All my kids leave me in the end. It's just the way it is. I guess, in hindsight, I could've been easier on Leo. I certainly came down too heavy on him about the bar. But it still hurts that he teamed up with Elle, you know? (...) I thought that would be something we'd be able to sort out when I got back. But now he's gone. Not exactly the welcome home we were expecting, is it, eh?
No 28
Yashvi is still in the garden with Bea. Yashvi admits she's overthinking all that's happened since Scarlett arrived; she's worried Ned has been into her the whole time.
BEA: I think it's more like the other way round. And this whole time, she's been working her way into Ned's life. I mean, she literally chased him here.
YASHVI: For all I know, they've been secretly hooking up behind my back for weeks.
BEA: I know this sucks. I don't think Ned would go this far, though. And the more I think about it, the more it seems like Scarlett's making a serious play for him.
Finn appears, and questions Bea's interpretation. Bea says it's just weird that everything Scarlett does gets her closer to Ned - the job at Lassiter's, moving onto the street. Yashvi mentions the creepy texts Scarlett's supposedly been getting from her ex.
FINN: You think she's lying?
BEA: No. But she's using it to her advantage to keep him close.
YASHVI: Yep. And it totally worked.
No 22
David, Kyle and Amy have all joined Roxy and Harlow, who have now tidied the house and are throwing a surprise get-together for Paul and Terese. Terese apologises for being a bit grouchy with the girls earlier and all is forgotten. There are belated wedding presents to open, too.
KYLE: This one's made out to a Mr and Mrs Robinson - is that what we call you guys now?
TERESE: On social occasions. But I'm gonna stick to Terese Willis.
PAUL: Yeah, for now. We're still in negotiations.
TERESE: It is my professional name, and the name of my children.
ROXY: And niece!
They get started opening the presents.
Lassiter's Lake
Scarlett is writing her latest entry in the Creepy Scrapbook™, which reads as follows (with ellipses standing in for where the text goes off the page)...
'Our first sleepover. Nothing untoward, nothing denigrating, he was the perfect gentleman. He took the couch. It's too adorable. He likes it that way, taking things slow. It's why I love him, even though it drives me mad sometimes. A stolen moment, nestled under his arm, the slight smell of chlorine still on his skin, smooth and sun kissed. I wish I could say... as I imagined, but it wasn't... more real, more immediate... stay in that moment... down to that. No ... aren't made for... How he can... fit perfectly...'
But as she's writing, Yashvi approaches. Scarlett snaps the book shut and puts it in her bag.
YASHVI: Hey! You've been sneaking around behind my back, lying to me this whole time!
SCARLETT: What are you talking about?
YASHVI: I saw you last night with Ned!
SCARLETT: Yeah, he came over because I was scared.
YASHVI: Right - so scared that you had to cosy up with him half-naked.
SCARLETT: Wh...?
YASHVI: On the couch!
SCARLETT: Oh, god. We were talking - I was exhausted. It had been a very stressful day. I literally fell asleep for, like, one second!
YASHVI: Give me a break! You've liked him this whole time, haven't you? Is this the first time you've got cosy with him, or has it been happening for a while?
SCARLETT: Yashvi, you're being ridiculous. I literally fell asleep for a minute, and then went back to my own bed.
YASHVI: I don't believe you!
SCARLETT: You know what? This is so unfair. Especially seeing as I have tried *so* hard to protect you.
YASHVI: What's that supposed to mean?
SCARLETT: You make out like I'm some kind of vixen trying to seduce Ned. But you've got it the wrong way around.
YASHVI: What are you talking about?
SCARLETT: Forget I said anything.
Scarlett walks off, leaving Yashvi fuming.
Lassiter's Complex
Outside Harold's, a still-furious Yashvi tells Finn and Bea that Scarlett said Ned was the one who had been pursuing her, and that she'd been putting the brakes on. Bea says that doesn't sound like Ned.
YASHVI: I don't know what to believe anymore. I just... want this whole mess to be over.
BEA: You don't deserve this. And he should know it.
Seeing Ned shifting bags over by the hotel, Bea takes it upon herself to go and 'rip him a new one for hurting my friend'. Yashvi insists she doesn't need to, but Bea ignores her. However, as she approaches Ned, Scarlett beats her to it. Scarlett is upset about something, and Bea, Yashvi and Finn gather around to listen to what she's saying to Ned.
SCARLETT: Oh my god, it's him. He's here, he's here. I know it's him.
NED: Who?
SCARLETT: My ex. I just got back from my break and that was in my locker.
She shows Ned a photograph of herself with the eyes gouged out.
SCARLETT: It's from a trip we went on together. I know he's here - he's here, somewhere.
Ned tries to calm Scarlett down, during which she hugs him frantically. Bea, Yashvi and Finn look on with bemusement as Ned leads Scarlett inside.
No 22
The family gathering continues, as Terese asks Roxy for details about her relationship with Mark which she's heard about from...
ROXY: Sheila?
TERESE: Yeah, who else? I didn't really see you and Mark as a combo.
ROXY: Yeah, well - turns out he couldn't, either.
TERESE: And it's definitely over?
ROXY: Absolutely. And you can wipe that look of pity off your face. Because I can and I will do better.
Meanwhile, Paul is telling Kyle, Amy and Harlow about all the highlights of the London trip - but that probably the most surprising part was meeting Harlow's mum. Harlow looks worried.
HARLOW: Really?
PAUL: Yeah. I mean, you two - you're just so different. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but you two are in completely different orchards.
HARLOW: Yeah, well - we're the exception that proves the rule, I guess.
Aware of why Harlow is uncomfortable, Amy intentionally diverts the conversation elsewhere. At this point, Ned comes in with Scarlett, and introduces her to everyone. Harlow asks if Yashvi is coming, and Ned tells them all that he and Yashvi have broken up.
ROXY: So, what, are you two together now?
NED: No, no, Rox. We're just friends.
Ned explains to Terese that Scarlett has joined the porter team at Lassiter's. Terese welcomes her on board. Scarlett says she's really enjoying it.
No 28
Bea and Finn are discussing Scarlett's performance outside the hotel - or rather, Bea thinks it was a performance.
BEA: You don't think that maybe she was a bit over-the-top?
FINN: Well, she's scared.
BEA: Yeah, but I feel like she was playing up that whole damsel-in-distress kind of thing
FINN: Or maybe you're looking for reasons not to trust her. I get that you think she's been trying to break up Ned and Yashvi. You have every right to be upset about that. But you've been through rough times. Surely you must have sympathy for her.
BEA: Yeah, I'm not trying to victim-shame her.
FINN: Whatever you think about her, she's in a tough spot.
BEA: Yeah, I guess.
Finn reminds Bea to think of herself, not Scarlett - as Bea's barely out of hospital. Bea agrees, but looks worried as she hugs Finn.
No 22
The family gathering continues in the kitchen, and Scarlett goes to take a seat in the living room alone, behind the pillar. Ned offers her another drink; she thanks him for bringing her. Ned notices she's shaking - Scarlett admits she can't stop thinking about her ex and what he might be planning. Ned tells her she's safe here.
Terese drags Ned away, ostensibly to ask him questions about work; Ned tells her about the hot water problem and minor damage in one of the rooms, which Amy is coming to deal with tomorrow. But the conversation is a pretext for asking how Ned is after splitting with Yashvi. This chat goes on on the other side of the pillar, from behind which Scarlett is listening, Nanny Alice-style!
TERESE: You must be so upset. Things were going so well.
NED: Yeah, they were, at first. And then... I dunno, I guess the cracks started showing.
TERESE: And Scarlett?
NED: She's just a friend. Actually, it's a pretty crazy story. I met her at Sydney Airport when I was coming up to see you.
TERESE: What, she followed you here?
NED: No, she's doing a tour of Australia, trying to find somewhere for a fresh start. Guess I made Erinsborough sound pretty good.
Ned goes on to explain how he put her onto Chloe when they were short-staffed, who gave her the job. Ned assures Terese that Scarlett's a good worker, then drifts off - and Terese beckons Paul over. Scarlett is still listening from behind the pillar.
TERESE: What do you think about Scarlett, Ned's friend?
PAUL: I dunno, I barely said two words to her. Why?
TERESE: I dunno. I just think it would be a good idea to keep an eye on her.
PAUL: Well, she works for us, so shouldn't be too hard.
Scarlett looks worried as she overhears.
Later, Paul and Terese are relaxing on the sofa, impressed at the effort the girls went to for them - although the house is now pretty messy again following the gathering! Paul gives Terese a foot massage as a reward for being such an "amazing wife so far".
TERESE: So far?!
PAUL: Yeah. I don't see that ever changing. Mind you, you never know, do you?
TERESE: Yeah, well don't expect to get *your* foot massaged.
PAUL: I'm okay with that. Your company's enough.
Terese and Paul kiss, but at that moment Terese's phone rings - it's work, and they know she's on leave so it must be an emergency.
TERESE (on the phone): Right. We'll be there as soon as possible.
Lassiter's
Terese and Paul meet with Charlie Waugh, the plumber who has been servicing the hot water, presumably in the room Amy and Kyle were staying in. Charlie explains that he found some untoward cables in the access panel, which led him to locate a small camera that had been installed in the wall - pointing straight at the bed.
