Number 28
The K's are back from the police station after Susan got bail and Karl tries to reassure his wife that they will get through this. Susan isn't worrying too much about herself, she's more worried about the girls and that they could be charged yet too. Karl though is worried about his wife and admits that he wishes she had thought twice about going to the police.
Terese's office
Terese, Leo and Amy discuss the plan they've put in place for Paul, hoping that it comes off.
TERESE: This is exactly what Paul needs.
AMY: He just doesn't know it yet!
And that plan would be inviting Jane Harris back to town as she arrives promptly as scheduled at 2pm!
Number 28
Bea arrives home and ignores Susan asking about her, to ask instead how she is holding up. Susan tells her about Karl wishing she'd kept quiet, but Bea gets why she said something.
SUSAN: No, it would have haunted us for the rest of our lives.
BEA: Yes, and I could have lived with that.
Susan though couldn't and feels accountable for what happened to Finn and is hopeful that Toadie can get the DPP to reduce the charge to self-defence. "Its going to be fine," Susan tries to reassure her niece with, adding that she isn't "going anywhere."
The Waterhole
Sheila and Xanthe are at loggerheads over Susan's actions and how the lass has been caught up in the mess. Gary is firmly in Susan's corner, as she helped protect Xanthe's life by pushing Finn off the cliff.
SHEILA: Saved her?! The police are after her with a murder charge. What if Xanthe's next?
Xanthe tries her best to reassure her Gran that she is fine and can handle things however Sheila is concerned that if something does happen, Xanthe could end up not getting into medical school.
GARY: Lay off mum.
SHEILA: Don't you get it?! Or has Saint Susan sucked you in as well?
XANTHE: Gran, you are the one that doesn't get it okay. Susan was a hero and if you can't see that, then I don't want to talk to you!
Terese's office
Jane explains that despite the short notice, she is happy to be back, especially given her quick departure the last time after hearing her Nan had died.
Paul does a double take when he eventually notices who is sitting on the sofa after barging into the office and asks why she is back. Turns out Terese has invited Jane back for the holiday season re-launch of the face of Lassiters campaign. "Why wasn't I informed of this?" Paul asks, and Jane assumed that he did know and Terese muffles a response to say there was not the time to brief him.
Leo and Amy are asked to help get Jane and her luggage to her room but apparently there has suddenly been an electrical issue with the 5th floor and while everyone else has been relocated, there isn't a room for Jane! Jane offers to go to another hotel, but Leo thinks she should be staying at Lassiters, given the job she is there to do and while trying not to be subtle as a brick, Terese wonders if Paul can host her in his penthouse suite?!
PAUL: The penthouse? What my penthouse?
Terese thinks that there is plenty of room for her there given that his kids have moved out and eventually Paul comes on board and invites Jane to stay with him.
Lassiters foyer
The trio are bringing Gary up to speed on their plan and their rationale for doing it too. Terese thinks they can't lose but Gary is fearful for Jane if things go belly up.
Penthouse suite
Over a glass of wine, Paul is more than happy pleased to see Jane back in town especially since she has dusted off the 'Plain Jane Super Brain' look. He also reassures her that she is more than welcome to stay.
Garage
Ned comes by for a chat with Bea to see how she's coping. He reveals that he knows what is going on too, Piper has brought him up to speed.
BEA: The situation got way out of hand.
NED: Sounds like hell.
"How's your head?" he subtly asks and after she initially said yes, makes on if he were in her shoes it wouldn't be. Bea reveals to him that she cannot get out of her head the stuff she did in the cabin with Finn. He now gets why things were awkward between them however, he does offer her his full support and that she can call on him if she needs any extra support. "I might take you up on that offer," she replies before getting back to work.
Ramsay Street
With the school still closed, the Rebecchi's are unsure whether to approach Susan or not, given what has happened, to ask for a progress update. Dipi is very anti-Susan over what happened (whereas Shane thinks they should be applauding her for what she did) especially since Kirsha got sick on Susan's watch. "Its not her fault," Shane tries to point out but Dipi isn't listening and indeed wonders if Finn would try something again if he wakes up?
The Waterhole
Gary wants Sheila to call Xanthe to apologise but before that happens, they spot Susan walking into the bar.
GARY: (to Sheila) Just be nice!
Susan comes to the bar for a coffee and after asking how Xanthe is (good considering) she apologises for getting the lass mixed up in things. Despite the warning from Gary, Sheila doesn't mince her words by telling Susan that she has no idea how Xanthe manged to hold it together to get through her exams and is potentially facing charges. "She's a strong girl," Susan acknowledges and doesn't think the lass will face charges. Sheila isn't taking that, nor the compliment Susan dished out lying down, she is fearful that it ruins Xanthe becoming a doctor.
SHEILA: I know, nobody wants to hear my opinion, but this is the last thing Xanthe needs!
Penthouse suite
Paul is showing Jane, with the help of his telescope, where the new Robinson Pines development is going to be (right next to the Heights one apparently). She is pleased with the tribute Paul is paying to his dad, 25 years after his death.
Their chat is interrupted when Ned arrives to bring them some canapes to sample (a new creation by the Head Chef) and Jane is looking forward to sampling them. Before he can escape in the lift, Paul manages to trick Ned into revealing that there has not been an issue on the 5th floor (Terese said it was electrical while Paul tricked Ned by asking about the plumbing).
Harold's café
Kirsha doesn't seem too enthralled to hear that the school is being reopened tomorrow and Dipi concedes into letter her stay home for one more day.
Away from Kirsha, Shane doesn't think its right to keep her off school longer, pointing out she has to go back at some point. Dipi is holding firm thought until she is sure everything is okay and knows who will be running the school too.
Meanwhile, Xanthe and Bea are hanging out at the café because they are trying to avoid Sheila and home respectfully. Bea comments on how well Xanthe held out without cracking but she explains that in her mindset, they did nothing wrong, Finn got what he deserved. Xanthe admits that it's the not knowing (if they too are going to be charged) that sucks most! "I wonder why they're holding off?" Bea wonders and Xanthe's best guess is they are waiting to see what happens with Finn.
XANTHE: You know, it's funny, before this, I was hoping that he'd never wake up.
BEA: Yes, well it would be a lot easier, but now we just have to hope he pulls through, for Susan's sake.
Lassiters reception
Paul tells Terese to "cut the act" when he gets evidence via the reception computer to show that she's up to something (there were free rooms available for Jane). She concedes she was up to something but before she can explain fully, he lets rip at her for accusing him of being "shallow and one-dimensional."
TERESE: I thought the two of you got along rather well the last time.
PAUL: Oh great, so that's a yes eh?!
Paul assumes that Jane is in on it too and she explains that Jane is oblivious, its all down to Leo, Amy and herself.
TERESE: Look, you've been punishing us because I'm with Leo and you can't handle Amy being with Gary. You've been relentless, but you've been hurting yourself as well, and the more you chase us, the more unhealthy it is for you.
PAUL: Oh what, so this is all for my own good is it?!
TERESE: No, we did it for us... but what if it worked for you?
PAUL: Yes well, we'll see what Jane has to say about your little scheme shall we?!
Number 28
Susan is working on the handover notes for Elly, so she can take over as acting Principal when Karl tells her to stop. She wants to continue though so Elly has all the necessary info, but Karl asks what happens if Elly is also arrested. "I don't know," she replies and continues working on.
It looks like Susan's work was in vein though after she gets a call from the department. They inform her that they've taken over control of the running of the school until further notice and banned Susan from contacting staff or students. "Can they even do that?" the newly arrived home Bea asks, and Karl point out that her case hasn't been heard yet.
SUSAN: Oh wait, it does get better. Apart from being "unfit to run the school" they've also overturned my decision to appoint Elly as acting Principal.
Karl wants to know who is taking over but she doesn't know other than she won't have any involvement in it.
SUSAN: Honestly, I've just made a complete mess of everything.
Erinsborough Greenway
Ned and Bea are out for a walk, after she called him, and they chat aimlessly about how their day went.
The Waterhole (exterior)
Amy finds her dad sitting quietly drinking a whisky. "Taking a break from Gary," he taunts her with when she approaches him. She asks if Jane knows what their plan was (no) but he plans on informing her when she gets back from having dinner with Clive.
PAUL: Amy, you brought her out here under false pretences, she doesn't deserve that.
AMY: But she's happy to be here and you like having her around.
PAUL: So, it doesn't change the deception.
AMY: She will only find out if you tell her.
PAUL: Ah, so that's why you're here!
AMY: No dad, you have made our lives unbearable for the last month and telling Jane to get back at us will only hurt her.
PAUL: Might make me feel better though.
AMY: It won't! Can you honestly say you're happy with being awful with the people you love?
PAUL: Hey, Leo and Terese, you and Gary Canning, I and didn't start any of that.
"No," Amy acknowledges but tells him that he can "end it."
AMY: I'm sorry we lied to you but if you don't change, you will never be happy, and I don't want that. I want my dad back and I want you to have a chance with Jane. Can't something good come from all this?
