Pierce's Hotel Suite
Chloe tries to pretend she's there to surprise Pierce with a "booty call" but he can tell she's lying. So Chloe outright asks what Pierce's contract with Paul is about. Pierce admits Paul wants him onside as a partner to then oust Terese by getting a majority vote from the investors. Chloe's appalled but Pierce is more concerned with gifting Chloe with another pricey bit of jewellery - this time a sparkly diamond bracelet.
CHLOE: You could buy a car with this! What's it for, my silence?
PIERCE: It's to show you how much I'm enjoying our arrangement. And I hope that we can keep it up.
Pierce puts the bracelet around Chloe's wrist while she stands there looking conflicted.
Number 22
Leo and Terese are cuddled up on the couch together. They talk about Piper and how much stress she's been under lately with Tyler and Cassius.
LEO: You seem a little stressed out yourself. Maybe a foot rub will help?
TERESE: That's a little too like your father's signature move.
LEO: Wow, OK, I'm going to scrub that from my mind and my repertoire.
They're able to laugh about it, but the mood turns serious when Terese gets antsy over hearing back from Chloe about Pierce. Terese knows something's fishy between Paul and Pierce, but Leo says no major changes can occur without all the investors on board.
TERESE: Yeah but money talks. And if they're going to line up against me I have no hope.
LEO: Come on, you're just as wily as they are. You'll learn to survive anything they throw at you.
TERESE: Well I certainly won't go down without a fight.
LEO: Good. I want you to know that whatever dad dishes out, I'm here with you all the way.
Leo gives her a reassuring smile and Terese smiles back at him.
Lassiters Complex
The next morning Sonya and Toadie are walking with Nell and Hugo, trying to divvy up how they're going to look after the kids. Toadie's got meetings and Sonya needs to get a ton of admin done but they're going to try and make it work. Toadie heads to his office while Sonya takes the kids to Harold's for some food.
Terese runs into Paul on her way to work and tells him that she knows he's up to something with Pierce. Paul looks smug and won't give Terese the answers she's looking for, making her infuriated.
TERESE: Can't we just work through this like adults? I mean this game playing is getting really boring.
PAUL: Yeah it might be for you but that's because you know you're going to lose.
Number 24
Elly implores Chloe to tell Terese what's going on with Pierce, but gets distracted by the bling on Chloe's wrist (that she's wearing with her pyjamas because she's not done admiring it yet). Elly's concerned about Chloe being "super comfy" with the jewellery and sex arrangement she's got going on with Pierce. Chloe says, "It is what it is."
ELLY: So is that bracelet going to make it really hard for you to dob him in to Terese?
CHLOE: Well he never directly asked me to keep it secret.
ELLY: You don't think that he would expect it? I know you want to sell the bracelet to get money to give to your mum, but if that means selling out Terese...
CHLOE: You and your pointing out ethical dilemmas.
ELLY: Chloe you need to give it back.
Mark returns from a run and tells the girls he wants to take Tyler's chair and some of his clothes down to the Goodwill bins. Tyler's moved on, so they should too. He tells them to leave out any stuff they want donated. Chloe quickly takes her bracelet off and shoves it in her robe pocket to hide it from her brother.
Harold's Café
Sonya's in stressed out mum mode with Hugo crying and Nell restlessly pulling on her arm because there's a line at the counter. A lady in line behind her introduces herself as Alice and strikes up a pleasant conversation with Sonya and Nell.
Number 24
Chloe's freaking out because she can't find her bracelet but Elly thinks Mark must have collected the robe along with the clothes to be donated. He's on his way to the charity bin now. Chloe's in a pickle because she's late for work and pretty much guilts Elly into helping her get the bracelet from Mark, without letting him know of its origins.
Charity Bins
Elly races past the Garage to the end of the street where Mark's just dumped the bag of clothes into the Goodwill bin. Elly asks him if he saw a tennis bracelet with diamonds on it, concocting a story about her mum giving it to her for her 21st. She makes out she was hiding it from Chloe because she's always stealing stuff without asking. Mark suggests they have a look in the bin for the clothes.
MARK: It might be within reach.
ELLY: Yeah, should I jump in?
MARK: I'll give you a boost. Do you think you'll fit?
ELLY: What?
MARK: Nothing.
Elly awkwardly slithers her way into the bin, complaining that it smells like bananas. She wriggles down further, causing Mark to lose his grip of her legs. Elly now lives in the bin.
Harold's Café
Nell needs to go to the bathroom but Sonya has to pack up first and can't leave Hugo unattended either. Alice overhears their predicament and offers to take Nell to the loo. Sonya politely declines at first, which Alice completely understands, as Sonya doesn't know her from a bar of soap. But when Nell continues to squirm, Alice says she could stand outside the cubicle near the door where Sonya can see her. Not having a better option, Sonya accepts and thanks Alice for her help.
Lassiters Complex
Chloe tells Terese and Leo about Paul's plan for Pierce, which will culminate in Terese most likely losing her job. Terese is annoyed and Leo gets angry, ready to barge over to the hotel and give Paul a piece of his mind. But Terese says that will just make things worse - she'll find a way to deal with it.
Charity Bins
Mark tries to help Elly get out, but the bin flap won't swing back enough for Elly to fit through properly. It appears she's well and truly stuck inside. Mark sees a sticker on the bin with an emergency contact number and says he'll call it. Hopefully someone will have a key to open it for them.
Harold's Café
Alice is now sitting and having a coffee with Sonya. She explains she used to be an early childhood worker, "preschool, day-care, in-house nanny you name it." Toadie walks in and introductions are made. He lets Sonya know that he can't look after the kids like he thought because something's come up at work. Sonya's stressed because she needs to finish her BAS statement at home. Alice pipes up and says she can look after the kids while Sonya works - she'd love to be of use. Toadie looks wary having only just met her but Sonya looks as though she could be swayed.
Pierce's Hotel Suite
Chloe tells Pierce that she's going to return the bracelet because she told Terese about his deal with Paul. Pierce says that the bracelet was a gift, not a bribe, and that he doesn't want it back.
CHLOE: Terese has been a good boss to me. I won't let her be hung out to dry.
PIERCE: It's fine. She'd have found out when we told the other investors anyway. Matter of fact, she just called and wants to meet up.
CHLOE: You're not going to?
PIERCE: What for? Paul and I know where we stand. I get a share in Lassiters and he gets rid of a bad manager.
CHLOE: Terese a bad manager? Is that what he told you?
PIERCE: Yeah well according to Paul she's wildly incompetent.
CHLOE: He's got a personal grievance. Terese has poured her heart and soul into this place. And she's had to fight Paul every step of the way. She's not the problem: he is. Plus he's not above changing loyalties when it suits him. If I were you I'd hear what Terese has to say.
The Penthouse/Terese's Office
Paul gets ready for his meeting with Pierce, but becomes concerned when the business mogul doesn't turn up. That's because Pierce has taken the meeting with Terese, who is very pleased he's going to hear her side of the story.
Number 30
Susan pops by to see how Sonya's getting on, but everything is calm and lovely now that Hugo is napping and Alice is looking after Nell. Susan and Alice are introduced to one another and Sonya says they met at Harold's and Nell instantly hit it off with Alice.
Charity Bins
While Mark and Elly wait for help to arrive they have a chat with one another - Mark sitting on Tyler's old chair and Elly sitting on the last remaining dregs of her dignity in the bin. Mark wants to know what's going on in Elly's life since there's been "one Brennan drama after another" lately. Elly starts to tell him about a kid at school when Chloe rings to ask about the bracelet.
Lassiters Terrace
Chloe feels bad when she hears where Elly's stuck and promises to call her back later. She meets up with Pierce and is pleased when he says he liked how upfront she was about returning the jewellery. Pierce tells her about his meeting with Terese and that there's definitely more to her than Paul let on.
CHLOE: Like I said he's got his own agenda.
PIERCE: She told me about that also. I've changed my mind.
CHLOE: You mean...
PIERCE: Your boss's job is safe. I'm not teaming up with Paul.
Chloe smiles and puts her hand over his, thanking him.
Lassiters Hotel
Paul's leaving Pierce a voicemail when he sees Terese and Leo coming out of the elevator. Terese is very pleased with herself and informs Paul of what went down.
TERESE: In the interest of transparency I think I should tell you that your little gentleman's club has been blown wide open.
PAUL: What are you talking about?
TERESE: Once Mr Greyson found out that he was the stooge in your dummy spit he had a change of heart.
PAUL: Is that so?
TERESE: It seems he doesn't do business with people who base their decisions on personal revenge. Or anyone with a reputation with dodgy dealings like yours!
PAUL: Yeah, which you were only too happy to feed I'm sure.
TERESE: Well I must have said something right because he's sided with me.
Terese smirks and walks off hand-in-hand with Leo, leaving Paul wallowing in his misery.
Number 24
Elly and Mark return home from their bin adventure and find Chloe... wearing the bracelet. Mark gets annoyed with her for stealing Elly's stuff and Chloe picks up on enough to play along with the lie Elly told. When Mark's out of earshot, Chloe sheepishly explains she found the bracelet in the washing machine. Elly's rightfully annoyed and tells Chloe that she doesn't want to keep any more secrets from Mark.
Number 30
Nell's back to asking Sonya questions while she's trying to work, so Alice offers to feed Hugo and get Nell to help her out so Sonya's left in peace. When Sonya goes to finish her work in her room, and Nell heads to the fridge to fetch the baby food, Alice starts chatting to little Hugo...
ALICE: Oh my darling boy, you are even more adorable than I imagined. And this place is exactly as described. It won't be long before our little family's safe and all together.
She gives Hugo a kiss on the cheek but stops talking when Nell looks at her.
