Garage
Mark tells Bea that Elly's been struggling to contact her but Bea says she hasn't got her phone back from the cops yet. Mark offers to drive Bea home to her motel but Bea wants to stay at the garage and do her TAFE work. Once Mark leaves, though, Bea locks up the garage and hops into the work van outside to sleep.
Number 30
When Sonya arrives home, Toadie doesn't waste any time asking her questions.
TOADIE: Have you found Andrea? Please don't lie to me, Sonya.
SONYA: Did the police call you?
TOADIE: No. Lyra recorded your conversation.
[Hearing its name, Lyra turns on]
TOADIE: Lyra cancel.
Toadie asks Sonya how she found Andrea, but Sonya says Paul's PI located her in a psychiatric ward. "The doctors think she's suffering from some kind of post-natal psychosis," Sonya explains to Toadie, who then asks if Andrea's OK.
SONYA: She's barely coherent. I mean she didn't even recognise who I was.
TOADIE: Hang on; are you saying you flew down to Hobart when you told me you were at the floral expo?
[Sonya's silence confirms his question]
TOADIE: So you find out where she is and you don't tell me? You jump on a plane, you fly to Tasmania and meet with her, and you still don't tell me?
SONYA: I was gonna tell you.
TOADIE: You find her in a psychiatric ward psychotic, whatever, you still don't tell me?
SONYA: I wanted to tell you it's just that Paul...
TOADIE: (raising his voice) Why are you even speaking to Paul about this? You should be talking to me; I'm your husband!
SONYA: (yelling) Well I don't know, I was terrified you were going to run down there!
Hugo starts to cry and it puts a pause on their fight. Sonya reiterates that she was going to tell Toadie the truth because the police would've eventually contacted them; she was just hoping to hear about a final diagnosis on Andrea first. Sighing, Toadie says he's going to sleep in Hugo's room tonight, "You shouldn't have kept it from me at all."
The Shed
The next morning, David's helping Aaron with his sit-ups but Aaron's annoyed Sonya hasn't sent any flower photos through yet. David tells Aaron to chill and to enjoy the silence before the wedding mania truly kicks in. They continue exercising with David rewarding Aaron with a kiss for every sit-up he does.
Chloe's meant to be spotting Ned over at the weights, but she's too busy listening to an entrepreneurial podcast. She's trying to think up ideas for a "side hustle" so she can pay her mum back faster. Ned suggests asking Terese for a raise but Chloe says she couldn't even get a fake Christmas bonus out of her.
NED: You need something not everyone can do. Something people will pay a premium for.
CHLOE: This is good, keep going!
NED: What are your skills? Anything you can sell?
CHLOE: I'm creative, I'm good with people... as long as they're not annoying.
NED: OK?
CHLOE: Plus I'm adaptable.
NED: Bit hard to monetise that though. Be more specific.
CHLOE: I'm across trends and fashion, I'm strong on social - borderline influencer. Plus my personal brand is solid.
NED: (smirking) You got all that from the podcast didn't you.
CHLOE: No! Maybe. Just lift your weights.
Ned gets back to exercising while Chloe puts her thinking cap on.
Number 30
Sonya wakes up to find Toadie just about to head to the Botanical Gardens with Hugo to meet Shane. Sonya wants to talk but Toadie's not in the mood. Susan pops by with some excess broccoli from her garden and notices the weird mood between Sonya and Toadie. When Toadie leaves, Susan asks Sonya if everything's OK. Sonya says they're fine, and that Susan's been through enough recently so she doesn't need to hear about their problems. But this just makes Susan even more concerned. Sonya sighs and says, "I've just done something really stupid."
Erinsborough Hospital
Mark walks Elly out after David gives her the OK to leave. Elly thanks Mark for picking her up but tells him she doesn't want to head home yet, she wants to check on Bea. Elly's worried about Finn still being on the loose, but Mark assures her that Bea's actually been doing OK.
The Handywoman/Garage
Amy asks Yashvi to keep an eye out on a delivery for her because she needs to pop into the retreat and make sure things are OK for Gary. There's a blanket caught in the garage van's door that catches Amy's eye, and when the girls go over to investigate they're stunned to find Bea sleeping inside. Amy tells Yashvi she's going to call Elly.
A short while later Bea's startled when Elly and Mark yank the van door open. Amy and Yashvi head back to work, and Mark lingers behind while Elly and Bea talk. Elly's concerned and doesn't understand why her sister won't stay at #28 but Bea says she feels safer in the van.
BEA: Stop pretending like you want me there. You've never cared before!
ELLY: I'm not pretending! I know I've been a terrible sister. I've been selfish and preoccupied, and you can hate me for that if you want, I get it.
BEA: Good we're on the same page.
ELLY: Yes, but sleeping in a van is dangerous. Finn could be anywhere. You know what he's like, you know what he's done to us and he could do it again. So be mad at me all you want but don't put yourself in danger over it. Just come home! You don't even need to speak to me, just come home where you're safe.
Elly hopes she's said enough to get through to Bea.
Gardens/Number 30
Shane tells Toadie of his latest woes with Flapper while they toss the footy back and forth but Shane can see Toadie's mood's done a 180 since last night. He asks his brother what's wrong.
Back at #30, Sonya admits to Susan that she hated lying to Toadie but she wanted to see Andrea for herself first.
SUSAN: And she honestly didn't recognise you?
SONYA: Apparently not. But this is Andrea we're talking about.
Both Susan and Shane are surprised to learn from their respective Rebecchis that Sonya took Paul's advice to keep things quiet from Toadie.
TOADIE: We've spent months in counselling peeling back everything, all the crying, all the shouting at each other, and the one thing to come out of all of that - be honest! And now we're exactly where we shouldn't be, lying to each other.
Toadie goes to check on Hugo in the pram. Shane says that Sonya must have been pretty scared to even consider lying to Toadie in the first place.
Susan tells Sonya that she got pretty bad advice from Paul, but Sonya says she has to take responsibility for her own actions. Susan says Toadie will get past this once the shock subsides, but Sonya says it's more about the fact that she wasn't honest.
Toadie thought that after everything that happened last year, if Andrea ever turned up again they'd be all right. But now he doesn't know.
Lassiter's Hotel
Terese asks Leo if he wants to stay and listen to Chloe's business pitch but Leo says he's got more Kris Kringle stuff to organise. Chloe gives Terese a pretty good spiel about weddings being held at Lassiter's, and how the hotel doesn't see much of the money. So she wants the hotel to have a wedding planner on hand and offers herself up for the role. Terese is a bit iffy given Chloe's lack of experience, but Chloe says she wants to use David and Aaron as a test couple to show she's right for the job. Terese is intrigued and says she'll give Chloe a chance to prove herself.
Gardens
Shane plays devil's advocate and asks Toadie if Sonya might have been right in not telling him about Andrea straight away.
SHANE: What was your first impulse when you heard about Andrea? Catch a plane straight down to Tassie, right? Maybe even after all the counselling, Sonya's scared that you haven't changed. That you're still the guy who has to go down and fix things.
TOADIE: I still deserve to know.
SHANE: And Sonya and Nell deserve your full attention. Hugo too.
TOADIE: Yeah of course they do.
SHANE: So accept that's why Sonya didn't tell you. You denying it, blaming her, locking her out, that's an ironclad guarantee to end your marriage.
The Waterhole
Chloe's told Aaron and David all about her wedding planner idea. Aaron appears to be on board but David is concerned there's a catch, "I know Lassiter's, you don't get nothing for nothing." Chloe says the only perk for Lassiter's will be good PR and a few photos on the hotel's website. Aaron says it sounds good to him and reminds David that they can go somewhere amazing for their honeymoon with all the money they'll save. David's final plea is that he wants something "elegant, modern and classy", which Chloe agrees to. They seal the deal with a group pinky swear.
Number 28
Elly brings Bea home and Susan greets them, letting Bea know her room's all set up. Elly offers to show a wary-looking Bea the way. Elly and Susan share a nervous look between them, both hoping that Bea will make herself at home.
The Waterhole/Lassiter's Complex
David tells Leo he doesn't want his wedding splashed all over social media, especially if it's tacky, he just wants something that's going to celebrate his love with Aaron. Meanwhile, Chloe's outside on the phone wheeling and dealing with people to get better prices on things, and the payoff appears to be including brand exposure in David and Aaron's social media photos.
Gardens
Shane tells Toadie that he's got a decision to make and wonders if Toadie's strong-willed enough to go to Tassie and not fall into his old patterns. Toadie hopes he is.
TOADIE: Andrea is always going to be the mother of my child.
SHANE: And you'll always have Hugo in common.
TOADIE: Yeah so if Andrea is unwell, how can I look him in the eye in years to come and say that I did nothing?
SHANE: So you'll be going down for him?
TOADIE: And Willow, yeah.
SHANE: What about your marriage? How can you look Sonya in the eye and tell her Andrea's more important?
TOADIE: Mate, it's never been about that.
SHANE: If Andrea's in hospital she's getting the help she needs. You don't have to be the one to go down and fix it.
Number 28
Susan and Elly offer Bea some chocolate cake (with broccoli in it) to go with her tea, but Bea's more concerned about where the tea chest she gave them is gone. Susan and Elly let her know that Finn had hidden cameras in it filming them. Elly tries to invoke a happier mood and reminds Bea of the day they went to the movies to see Easy A but they got kicked out for causing a ruckus. Elly smiles and says they could watch it again today, but Bea's not in the mood for nostalgia.
BEA: Wow, you managed to think of literally the only time we've had fun together.
ELLY: That's not what I'm doing, Bea.
BEA: You think that's going to make up for telling mum that you didn't want me around?
ELLY: But I didn't say that.
BEA: (sighing) Enjoy your broccoli cake.
Bea leaves and Susan looks concerned.
Number 30/Psychiatric Ward
Toadie arrives home with Hugo and Sonya's relieved when her husband immediately draws her in for a hug. Sonya apologises for not telling him about Andrea, admitting that she was terrified about how he was going to react.
TOADIE: I get it, but I have to go to Hobart. You know that. [Sonya nods] But I want you to come with me. And I'll call Willow and we can all go together.
SONYA: Of course... Are you sure?
TOADIE: I'm in a no-win situation really, and so are you. To the point where you feel like you have to lie to me, and we promised that we would never do that to each other ever again.
SONYA: I'm so sorry.
TOADIE: So am I. But this is for Hugo and for Willow. I have to do this, but I'm going into this with my eyes fully open.
SONYA: We're going to be OK aren't we?
TOADIE: Yeah of course we are.
While they've been talking, we've been shown the ambiguous 'special appearance by Madeleine West' character sitting on her bed in the psychiatric ward, brushing her hair and smiling contentedly at her reflection in the mirror.
Number 28
Susan appears to have sat Elly and Bea down in the lounge room for a mediation of sorts. Susan thinks that deep down Bea really wants to work things out with Elly or else she wouldn't be here. Bea says she's only staying because of Finn, but once he's found she'll be out of their hair.
SUSAN: You don't need to put up a wall. Whether it feels like it or not, you are part of this family.
BEA: I haven't felt a part of this family since mum kicked me out. [She looks at Elly] You might be happy to forget the past but that's because you've got everything you want.
ELLY: But I didn't want mum to kick you out.
BEA: I don't expect you to admit it, Elly.
SUSAN: Whatever happened that made you feel as though you weren't wanted, it happened in Sydney didn't it? And you obviously blame Elly for this.
ELLY: (frustrated) But I don't remember doing anything to cause mum to make you move out!
BEA: That doesn't mean it didn't happen!
SUSAN: There are so many things that are unresolved between you two.
BEA: Well we can't exactly turn back time can we.
SUSAN: No we can't, but we can talk to your mum.
BEA: No that's not happening.
SUSAN: She might be the only person that can help sort this out.
BEA: I'm not calling her.
SUSAN: I already have. I've asked her to come here.
Bea's outraged and Elly looks uneasy, especially when Susan says it's too late to change plans. Karl's already picked her up from the airport and they're on their way back now. Bea runs off to her room, ignoring Susan and Elly's pleas to stay.
