Number 22 Backyard
Terese has been looking after Gabe while Paige had a lie-in. Paige is quite cut up about Mark but her mood lifts when Lauren pops out and surprises her. Lauren's doing a quick fly-by visit for Gabe's naming day and has left Brad at home to take care of the café. She can see something's wrong with her daughter, though, so Paige has to deliver the news that Mark broke up with her, "and it's all my fault."
Harold's Café
Amy tells Leo and Mishti that Wayne's been liking a lot of her photos on social media, even going as far back as 2001, and it's creeping her out. Leo says Wayne must like her a lot, but Amy says she only has eyes for one guy - Gabe - and proclaims she's going to become his "favourite godmother". Mishti asks Amy if she's got someone looking after the building site while she's busy today and Amy says it's all under control. They've been super vigilant since the inspection. Meanwhile, Rafael emerges from the toilets and is horrified to see that his new police pal Mishti is cuddling up to his enemy's son.
Lassiter's Complex
Rafael exits the café without looking and runs straight into Dipi, causing her to drop the tray of dishes she'd been holding. Rafael apologises and says he'll pay for damages, but Dipi is weirdly aggressive and OTT towards him. She first threatens to sic Sheila on to him and mess up his work life, then floats the idea of letting Mishti know what happened like he's committed a murder and not just accidentally broken a few plates. Luckily Aaron is loitering around and defuses the situation, offering to clean up the mess. Rafael rushes away and Aaron finds Rafael's wallet left on the ground.
Number 22 Backyard
Paige cuddles Gabe while she fills Lauren and Terese in about the Mark and Jack saga. She understands that she broke Mark's trust but she doesn't get why he's convinced that her and Jack are meant to be together.
LAUREN: Do you love Jack?
PAIGE: I did. But he chose the church. And then he chose the church again and again and again...
LAUREN: I remember.
PAIGE: There's only so much someone can take of that...
LAUREN: ... before you give up on them.
PAIGE: And I shut Jack out! I did. And I fell in love with Mark, and I love Mark.
TERESE: But you've still got feelings for Jack.
PAIGE: He's the father of my child, of course I do.
LAUREN: Does Jack still have feelings for you?
PAIGE: I know he does.
Paige then tells them that Jack wants to try dating again and Lauren wonders if this time Jack will be able to follow through with it. Paige sighs and says she has no idea, so Terese suggests they just put it to one side for today and focus on Gabe.
Number 24
Terese stops by to see Piper, but has a chat with Mark first, letting him know she's sorry about him and Paige. Mark dejectedly says that Paige deserves a chance to see if she wants to be with Jack. When Piper emerges from Tyler's room she's less than enthused to see her mum, but Terese just wants to make an appeal to Piper to come to Gabe's naming day despite their strained relationship. Piper's incredulous and says she's not about to miss her nephew's big day, "this has nothing to do with you." Piper walks out leaving Terese looking quite stung.
Erinsborough Pavilion
Amy's practicing her speech on Elly, encouraging her to laugh at the 'funny bits', even though it's nowhere near funny, so that Gabe knows she's cool. Elly reminds Amy that Gabe's only a baby but Amy's like, "It's being filmed!" Meanwhile, Terese is getting angry with the caterer on the phone and then hands out a revised ceremony program to the girls. Amy's annoyed to learn she's not speaking last anymore, which in turn annoys Terese, so Gary pulls her away to calm down. Gary says he knows Terese must be upset about Piper, but reminds her that she can be a bit short with people when she's trying to control situations. Terese angrily retorts that she's not controlling, she's not upset about Piper and that she just wants the day to go well, dammit!
The Waterhole
Aaron returns the wallet to Rafael, who is grateful. He's also thankful to Aaron for "hosing that lady down". Aaron says that Dipi's fine - when she likes you - and wonders if everything was OK earlier.
RAFAEL: In a nutshell, someone I thought I could trust ended up in bed with someone I hate.
AARON: Hey you are new around here, aren't you?
RAFAEL: Yeah why?
AARON: I'm just wondering how you've had the time to hate anybody?
RAFAEL: This guy, we've got history.
AARON: It must be pretty bad for it to be getting under your skin.
RAFAEL: It never goes away.
Aaron then introduces himself properly to Rafael and says he owns a local gym, suggesting it might be a way for him to take his mind off things for a while. Rafael thanks him but says he has someone else in mind that might be able to help.
Erinsborough Pavilion
Amy tells Terese that she'll hold Gabe during the ceremony because Terese will be preoccupied with her speech, but Terese ignores her. Lauren catches up with Jack and asks how fatherhood's treating him. Jack says it's amazing and that he didn't know he could be so happy outside of the church. Paige is surprised to see Mark make an appearance but Mark says he loves Gabe and didn't want to miss it. Paige looks sad but says she's really glad Mark came. When Mark walks off, Jack asks Paige if Mark wants to join them up the front, but Paige brusquely says no and that they should start proceedings.
Paige and Jack stand in front of everyone with Gabe while Jack reads a passage about Gabriel from the Bible, and then words from the heart.
JACK: This little guy saved my life when I didn't even know my life needed saving. He was sent to me to give me a deeper purpose. A family, a true selfless love that I didn't even know existed until now. And for that I will be forever eternally grateful.
Mark looks quite forlorn during the speech, watching Jack and Paige act like a family. Amy then makes her speech and isn't subtle about egging Elly on to laugh at her bad jokes, which Elly duly complies with in all her terrible fake laughing glory. Amy then says to "Gabey baby" that she'll be there for him whenever he needs her, and Gabe very cutely babbles back at her in response.
Terese then takes her turn to deliver her godmother speech, and Piper could not be more scathing about it, choosing to glare at her mum and then let out an obnoxious scoff when Terese says to Gabe: "you can come to me whenever you like, if you're sad or happy. I'll be on your side no matter what." Terese is shaken by Piper's interruption.
Later, Gary tries to gather everyone together for a photograph. Poor little Gabe's sound asleep after a big day, which everyone coos about. Mark wisely bows out of being in the photo, but then Piper also declines being in it, which Terese isn't happy about. After the pic is taken, Terese approaches Piper to voice her disappointment.
TERESE: Piper.
PIPER: What? Sorry, are you honestly surprised by this?
TERESE: I am actually! Is it really that hard for you to stand next to me for one second? I care about Gabe and I care about you and I love you.
PIPER: Oh mum, seriously, if you cared about me you wouldn't have put me in the position I'm in right now.
TERESE: Your position? What about my position? I mean was I just supposed to sit there and watch you and Tyler run off never to be seen again?
PIPER: Mum, we would have found a way to stay in touch!
(Terese softens her anger and tries to get closer but Piper's not having it)
PIPER: Don't! I cannot be around you right now and I don't know if I'll ever be able to again.
Piper walks away and Terese is so overwhelmed by everything that she picks up a glass of champagne and practically downs the whole thing.
While everyone's mingling, Mark finds Paige alone and says he's going to head off but that he left a present for Gabe. Jack and Lauren watch their interaction from different vantage points at the party. Mark then tells Paige that he'll still be around to help Gabe put the present together when he's a bit older and they both look a bit melancholy. Once Mark leaves, Lauren checks on her daughter.
LAUREN: Some things hurt, even if they're for the right reasons.
PAIGE: Mum how could I be so stupid to even consider something that failed in the past?
LAUREN: You're not stupid. Look at what happened with me and your dad.
PAIGE: Oh yeah, but Jack hurt me, mum. And now look what I've done, I've done the exact same thing to Mark.
LAUREN: Paige you deserve to be happy. And as horrible as things are now, maybe some good can come out of the situation?
PAIGE: Maybe. But I can't make any decisions now.
LAUREN: I think that's a good idea. But if you do decide to do something with Jack I'm sure it'll be different this time around.
Paige frowns, not entirely sure what to think right now.
Harold's Café
Dipi asks David how the naming day went. David says it went well and that Gabe's lucky to have Paige and Jack as parents. Rafael appears to ask Dipi how much he owes for damages, but Dipi's suddenly done a 180 on her mood and tells Rafael not to worry "your apology was enough". Rafael then apologises to David for his recent behaviour and says he's been out of sorts lately. He says he'd like to try another date and lets David know he's free that afternoon. David smiles and says that would be great.
Erinsborough Pavilion
Gary invites Lauren to kick on with him and Terese but Lauren says she has a flight to catch. She thanks Terese for looking out for Paige and Gabe in her absence but Terese drunkenly says she can't do what Lauren does because she's "perfect" in every way. Lauren and Gary are both worried about Terese drinking but Terese retorts that she's allowed to enjoy herself on her godson's big day. She totters off to chat with Amy, Elly and Leo leaving Lauren and Gary to look on in concern.
LAUREN: How long has this been happening?
GARY: Well it hasn't been happening. Not during the cancer or the treatment, unless she was drinking in secret but I reckon this is about this business with Piper.
LAUREN: I didn't realise it had hit her this hard.
Lauren then offers to stay the night and help look after Terese but Gary says he's got things under control, just as Terese loudly announces to everyone that they're all going to The Waterhole "for a couple of drinky-poos."
The Waterhole
Paige goes into the office where Jack's settling Gabe to sleep in his pram. She finally tells him that she and Mark broke up and says they were probably kidding themselves to think they could get past the cheating.
PAIGE: Mark was right about you and me. There'll always be something between us.
JACK: Yeah we've got a long journey ahead with this little guy.
PAIGE: Not just Gabe, Jack.
JACK: Are you suggesting that there's hope for us?
PAIGE: I don't want to say that yet. I can't.
JACK: For the record, I still feel the same way about you.
PAIGE: When we were first together you didn't know who you were. And when you remembered you had a whole life to get your head around.
JACK: I know who I am now.
PAIGE: Then maybe we could start from the beginning?
JACK: Is that what you want?
Paige smiles and takes Jack's hand to hold.
Lassiter's Complex
Gary is trying to encourage Terese to skip the pub and go to her office instead where she can have a cup of coffee and maybe even a nap. Terese looks at him like he's crazy and keeps stumbling through the complex, telling Gary to stop smothering her. She suddenly sees Piper across the way talking to Leo and Mishti and makes a beeline for her over the little bridge out the front of Harold's. But Terese is way too drunk to be coordinated and takes a tumble into the pond embarrassing herself in front of everyone.
