Number 30
Jack and Steph burst in with a bunch of flowers to congratulate Sonya on the liveability win. Sonya says they deserve just as much thanks for helping her in the first place. She then encourages Steph to put a proposal in for the wellness centre to try and obtain a share of the prize money. On the topic of money and the wellness centre, Steph voices her concerns about where Amy's gained the 50k.
STEPH: I found a business card for a lingerie cleaning service.
JACK: That hardly explains the 50k. Surely it doesn't pay that well that quickly?
STEPH: Unless she's doing more than cleaning...
SONYA: Stephanie Scully!
STEPH: I know, I know! I don't like to think it either.
SONYA: I'm sure there's another explanation.
Jack heads off home to get some rest for his first day on the job, while Steph admits to Sonya that she knows the only solution to her problem is to speak to Amy directly. Sonya agrees but warns Steph to tread carefully.
Lassiter's Complex
Mishti and Leo are acting all cutesy and smoochy with one another when Dipi comes out to clean the tables. Leo offers to come back home with Mishti to "keep her company", but Mishti says the house is a bit crowded for that. After Leo leaves, Dipi has a chat with her sister.
DIPI: Mish, you don't have to keep him away from the house to protect the girls you know. Unless that's not the reason?
MISHTI: It's been a long day.
DIPI: Evasive non-answer, interesting.
MISHTI: There's nothing to discuss!
DIPI: Well duh, I know there's not because you're stalling the relationship. What's the problem?
Mishti admits that she's got someone doing a background check on Leo and she feels like she can't proceed with things until she's got the full story on him. Dipi says that Mishti has suffered enough for a lifetime so it's good to play it safe.
Number 22
Jack has popped in to see Gabe before he heads off to work that morning, but is perturbed to see a shirtless Mark bounding down the stairs after Paige. Jack looks even more put out when Mark says he just put Gabe to sleep with a bottle. Paige offers to drop by the school at recess with Gabe so Jack can see him, which placates Jack for now but he still doesn't seem enthused with the routine change.
Penthouse
Paul acts snidely when Steph comes to visit him, thinking she's there to 'beg' him to invest in the wellness centre again. But Steph's actually there to chat about Amy (what happened to asking Amy directly, bud?), and tells Paul she's worried Amy's lingerie cleaning again. Paul's up like a shot, wanting to confront his daughter, but Steph tells him to back off. She just wanted to chat to him first to see if he thought Amy had been acting differently lately, not to go all "gung-ho". But Paul decides to go and confront her anyway. So yeah, good job, guys. This will end well.
Harold's Café
Jimmy makes his weekly two-second appearance before heading off to school, leaving Paul free to chat to Amy about the sudden influx of cash and her possible return to her old job. He claims that he's not here to throw around accusations, but he said he'd always look out for her and thinks the cleaning business is a bit drastic. Annoyed, Amy tells him that she's not cleaning again.
PAUL: So where did the money come from?
AMY: I was backed into a corner. One that you weren't willing to help me out of, which is when you lost any right to ask me any questions about how I conduct my own business. Just know you couldn't be further from the truth.
The Waterhole
Courtney has called Paige in on her day off to moan about the staff costumes Terese has chosen for the gala. She wants them to be "sexier". Paige is like, 'couldn't you have just told me this over an email?' and explains she wants to spend time with her son (who is being bounced around by Mark in the background).
COURTNEY: Um, the gala's going to be over in a couple of weeks and you're going to have that baby forever. Or until you kick it out. [She casts a sly eye towards Mark] I will say, however, you make having a baby look really good.
MARK: ... Thanks.
COURTNEY: I do like a man who knows what to do with his hands.
Paige looks ready to throttle Courtney, even more so when Courtney suddenly wants to reschedule their chat until after she's had her facial done.
Erinsborough High
Elly tells Jack that his contract is just until the end of the year initially; in the hopes that his trial goes well and he'll be given a full-time job next year (and that hopefully they can score some of the liveability winnings too). The students are acting a bit chaotic because it's the Year 12s last day, but Elly explains to Jack that they're trying to re-brand 'muck-up day' as 'celebration day' so there's less pranking and more cheering. Jack notes that he's got an appointment with Kirsha today and Elly informs him about Kirsha's anxiety issues. Meanwhile, Li-Kim and a few of the female students are checking Jack out and liking what they see.
Wellness Centre Reception
Steph's on the phone to Paul, who has told her that Amy's swears she's not cleaning, but Steph still isn't 100% convinced. Paul says Amy's not impressed with him, and he accidentally dropped Steph in it as well. Steph stares at the business card she found of Amy's, mulling over her next step in finding out the truth about the money.
Erinsborough High
Elly's trying to teach a lesson about Macbeth but her class are pretty much zoning out. She catches Li-Kim gossiping, but Li-Kim manages to convince Elly that she was just venting about how stressed she is about exams. Li-Kim then also manages to convince Elly that she needs to make an appointment with Jack right this second during class for a counselling session.
The Waterhole
Leo wonders why Mark's picking up a lunch order for Courtney, but Mark says he's just trying to help Paige out. Although he's regretting it with the sheer volume of "aggressive flirtation" Courtney's been throwing his way. Leo says she's engaged so she shouldn't be acting that way, but Mark thinks that for Courtney, flirting is just like breathing. Leo processes this information.
Harold's Café
Mishti tells Dipi she just got the all clear about Leo from her old police work colleague. Dipi asks if that means she's going to make her relationship official and Mishti nods: now she just needs to tell Leo.
Steph finds Amy, who tells her they need to clear the air before Steph goes off and tells anyone else untrue things about her. Amy doesn't get why Steph went to Paul, but Steph says she didn't know how to broach the topic and thought Paul would have some insight. Amy explains that she had the cleaning business card because she was exploring her options but she didn't go through with anything. Steph's still concerned about just where the money has come from, but Amy pleads with Steph to trust her that the donor wants to remain anonymous and to just leave it be. Steph pretends to accept this response but she's still suss. And Amy still looks troubled.
Erinsborough High
Paige pops in with Gabe to see Jack but runs into Elly instead. They're still not 100% back to the friendship they once had, but they're finding it easier to talk about Mark. They notice a long line of students lining up to talk to Jack, and Paige decides that she doesn't want to disturb Jack while he's working.
Number 30/Lassiter's Lake
Sonya tells Steph that she's already received twelve proposals for the liveability money. Some of them are OK but some of them are ridiculous.
SONYA: Check this one out: 'break the human pyramid world record'. How does that even cost any money? [She notices Steph looking perturbed] Steph please. There's some quality ranting going on here and it's being wasted on you!
Steph admits she's still stewing over the whole Amy thing. She doesn't like how evasive Amy's being, and that if Amy's doing something that's bad for her she will find out. Sonya tells Steph that she doesn't think she has anything to worry about.
Meanwhile, Amy's at Lassiter's park on the phone to the donor, letting them know that Steph is being very persistent in finding out their identity. Amy thinks she's thrown Steph off the scent for now, though.
Erinsborough High
Jack's counselling Kirsha about her anxiety triggers and encourages her to make a list. He also encourages her to choose music as an elective next year since she enjoys her guitar lessons so much. Kirsha says she was going to choose metal work because that's what her dad likes, but Jack says that all Shane wants is for Kirsha to be happy so she should choose what she wants. Kirsha thanks him for listening and says he's easy to talk to. Elly has been listening in and is pleased with Jack's progress, noting that he already has a loyal following with the students.
The Waterhole
Leo chats with Paige, wanting to get her take on Courtney and Paul, and Courtney's tendency to flirt. Paige feels that since Courtney's never been in a long-term relationship before she's just trying to figure things out. Paige admits she was surprised to hear about the engagement at first because monogamy has never really been Courtney's thing, but people can change. Leo still wishes he could get a definitive answer for Paul's sake and Paige jokingly wonders how: "It's not like you can force the issue". Her smile fades when Leo contemplates her words and reiterates that he definitely cannot force the issue. Is Leo gonna listen though? Survey says no.
Number 22
Jack apologises to Paige for not being able to see her and Gabe today but Paige thinks it's nice the students feel comfortable chatting with him. He's ready to see Gabe now, though, but his timing sucks, as Mark and Paige are just about to take Gabe to rhyme time at the library. Paige can see that Jack's disheartened and invites him along but Jack says he needs to head back to school for an appointment. Jack then says they should talk about setting a more definite routine for themselves and Gabe, which Paige agrees to. Jack leaves, but not before casting one more vexed look Mark's way.
Penthouse
Leo's acting all 'nice' (read: smarmy) with Courtney. He hopes they're still 'all cool' after his overreaction the other day. Courtney says they're fine, but she's in for a rude shock when Leo keeps acting flirty towards her before sidling in to try and kiss her. She very quickly shoves him away, rightfully outraged - just as Mishti emerges from the elevator and witnesses the ordeal.
