- Ben wondering who is saying he's sending dodgy photos to Xanthe.
- Yashvi wanting to talk to Ben... and he kisses her because he thinks she likes him!
- Aaron wondering where the missing ace of spades card is?
- A stranger playing, and then complimenting Tyler on his pool skills.
- Tyler talking to this stranger about fatherhood.
- The stranger introducing himself to Tyler and him realising that it is his father.
Number 24
Hamish seems somewhat surprised that Tyler knew in advance about him, but Tyler makes it clear he isn't interested in the man and sends him packing. He hopes thought that Tyler will change his mind and make contact, saying that he will be staying at Lassiters.
Mark and Aaron are surprised at the stance Tyler is taking but his explanation is, "the guy is a stranger."
Number 28
Ben apologises for getting his wires crossed and kissing Yashvi. Both realise that they would rather remain friends, so Ben asks what Yashvi was going to say but she replies that it can wait. Yashvi seems relived when Elly comes out into the backyard (to get some herbs) so that she can head home.
Number 24
Tyler tells his brothers how he met Hamish in the bar earlier but is adamant that the guy has wasted his time coming to Erinsborough.
MARK: You're really not curious?
TYLER: No.
AARON: Not at all?
TYLER: I only just started getting used to the idea that we have different dads and now he's here. What am I meant to do with that? Okay? I don't want to be his son or his mate. I just want to pretend that we never met.
Mark and Aaron are definitely more curious than Tyler, but he's had enough talking about it but is off to have a word with whom he thinks brought Hamish to Erinsborough.
Harold's café
And Tyler finds who he was looking for - Piper. She denies that she was the one that got Hamish to Erinsborough; she wouldn't do that without his say-so.
Meanwhile Yashvi tells her mum about the misunderstanding kiss with Ben and makes it clear that she doesn't "like him like that!" When Dipi hears that she hasn't told Ben, she warns her daughter that she can't keep on delaying it.
YASHVI: I don't want him to hate me, Mum.
DIPI: He won't. Just go back, tell him the truth and be done it.
It looks like telling Ben is going to wait as Freya and her sidekicks come in and Yashvi is dragged away to hang out with them.
Back with Tyler and Piper, and he isn't a believer in coincidences, given he was talking about Hamish only a few days ago, and now he is in town.
TYLER: Someone has to have told him about me.
Piper is in the dark about it too, just like his brothers.
Number 24
Mark finishes calling his mum and informs Aaron that it wasn't her. Like Tyler, Piper is the next name but Aaron says a text from Tyler has ruled her out. The brothers are really at a loss to work out who informed Hamish. "Maybe they're just trying to help?" says the newly arrived David but given how upset Tyler is, that definitely isn't the case.
Aaron then misinterprets David saying he is sorry, until he makes it then clear that he was the one that contacted Hamish.
(Later)
Commercial break later and David explains why he contacted Hamish - he's been in Tyler's shoes.
MARK: Your situation is a little bit different than his.
DAVID: But it's the same dilemma, when you have no idea where you come from, you question who you are.
MARK: He knows who he is, he's one of us.
AARON: Even if he didn't, how would it making him face the guy actually help, huh?
David does concede that he didn't expect Hamish to actually show up especially since he didn't actually mention Tyler's name to Hamish. Mark wants to know what he did tell him and David replies that in the email he said he was "a friend of the Brennan family, that something had come to light since Russell's passing that he may want to discuss, that's all." Mark thinks Hamish connected the dots with the mention of their surname. David is still looking on the bright side though given how his life changed on finding out Paul was his dad.
DAVID: Tell me you understand.
AARON: No. We don't.
Someone is wanting answers though - Mark and he heads off to find Hamish.
DAVID: Please don't be upset with me.
AARON: No, you made the wrong call.
DAVID: You think that now, but you might not later.
AARON: David, you had no right to make this decision. All right? This is my family.
Lassiters foyer
Mark waits until Paige has finished chatting with Hamish (asking how his stay is) before going over to talk to him. He properly introduces himself and Hamish tries to be friendly with him but its business only from Mark, beginning with what Hamish wants with Tyler.
HAMISH: I want to know my son. When Fay told me I wasn't the baby's father, I took her word for it but then I got an e-mail from a doctor in Erinsborough.
MARK: David Tanaka.
HAMISH: And he mentioned something about the Brennan family which concerned me. It made me rethink everything so I decided to get on a plane and come and meet Tyler and see if he was my son.
MARK: Did you ever consider that he might not want to meet you?
HAMISH: Of course. That's why I didn't introduce myself when I first approached him. Look, I know I did this wrong but if you were to find out that you were the father of someone, wouldn't you do anything to see them? Mm? I got the message. I won't bother him again.
MARK: Once Tyler's had some time to get his head around this, there's a chance he might want to talk to you.
HAMISH: You think so?
"It's not my decision to make," Mark replies and Hamish hands Mark his business card for when that moment comes.
Number 32
"Why doesn't this family listen to me?" Dipi bemoans after finding Clancy has chewed another pair of her shoes! Mishti guesses she is annoyed with someone else and Dipi replies Yashvi and tells her sister why.
MISHTI: You've been hanging for the girls to open up to you and now you're complaining about it?
DIPI: I don't understand why she's talking to me if she's not taking my advice.
"Maybe she just wants a friend," Mishti suggests then adds that if she want Yashvi to keep talking to her, "you need to let her make her own decisions and mistakes, that's what being a teenager is all about."
Harold's café
Tyler can't believe that it was David who was responsible when Mark tells him. He also apologises to Piper for accusing her but given the circumstances, she lets him off the hook. "I just want to forget about him," Tyler says but Mark wonders if that is the case and then says he met him, doing his "protective brotherly instinct" routine. That information has Tyler curious and wants to know what Hamish wants but is told to go ask him himself, and Mark then hands over the business card Hamish gave him.
MARK: If getting answers is going to help, what's the harm in a five-minute conversation?
Piper agrees with Mark and he suggests taking her along too but if Hamish says one word he doesn't like, then simply walk away.
TYLER: Why are you pushing?
MARK: Because pretending he doesn't exist isn't helping anyone and I want you to move on from this. This isn't about him, this about you.
The Terrace
A nervous Tyler (and Piper) have arrived at The Terrace to meet Hamish. Hamish has his back to them so can't see that they have arrived and eventually they make their way over to Hamish's table and the introductions take place.
Harold's café
Mark explains who it was that Tyler (and Piper) were meeting to Paige - she had spoken to him twice without realising who he actually is. Paige confirms Mark's thinking that Hamish is a nice person and then informs him that he is a "massive property tycoon," one of the biggest VIPs they've had stay at the hotel. Mark isn't interested in that, just as long as he treats Tyler right.
Meanwhile Freya is after details from Yashvi about her and Ben when the boy in question appears in the café. Freya invites them to her after-formal party because, "it's a must for all couples." Ben puts his foot in it when he innocently says they aren't a couple, but she insists that they must go besides, "who else would you take?" Yashvi suggests to him that they go as friends and Freya doesn't realise that it's simply 'innocent' friends Yashvi is meaning, but whatever, they have to go because the "formal after party's going to be so big."
Freya heads back to her silent sidekicks and Yashvi apologies to Ben but as he points out - they are friends, do have fun together, "so why not?"
The Terrace
Hamish explains that Fay told him that he wasn't the daddy as the dates didn't match, plus she wanted to make a real go of things with Russell too, so decided to end things. He does though admit he did to having "never stopped thinking about her or that baby."
The pair then tentatively start quizzing each other on what they do, although Tyler has had a head start thanks to Piper Googling him. While Hamish has been lucky in business, it was less so in his personal life - he never married nor had children just like his own father said to him. Given the (bad) relationship Hamish had with his own father, he isn't willing to push Tyler although he does seem happy when Tyler (and Piper) agree to stay and chat longer.
Number 28
David is over seeking solace from Elly over how Aaron was with him and wonders if he wants to call things off. "It's one fight," Elly reminds him and there are likely to be lots more and tries to reassure him that he is making mountains out of molehills.
ELLY: Look, contacting Hamish was the wrong thing to do, but your intentions were good and Aaron will see that eventually.
"What do I do now?" David asks and Elly's advice is nothing, he needs to let Aaron cool off and then offers him some personal advice - lay off the self-help books!
The Terrace
Continuing the catch up, Tyler tells Hamish that his mum lives in Adelaide now and that he is very close to his brothers, something Hamish has already got! "Don't apologise for having people in your corner, it's a gift," Hamish comments and sings Piper's too.
Before he leaves to attend to a business matter, Hamish apologies to Tyler for the position he put him in in the pub and wishes that he had been upfront "but I wasn't quite sure how." "I guess it was a shock for you too," Tyler replies and invites Hamish along to The Waterhole to join him for dinner. Hamish is up for that and Tyler will check to see if his brothers want to come along too.
Number 24
Tyler obviously made the call as Aaron wonders how it has gone from him not wanting anything to do with Hamish to having dinner with him! Mark reminds Aaron that he did encourage them to talk, although does add that he isn't going to dinner with him (still bitter about him splitting up his parents). "It wasn't just him," Aaron reminds his brother and also adds that this is a big deal for Tyler and that they should be there to support him.
MARK: And I'm guessing you feel a little responsible for the way that David behaved?
AARON: Oh, yeah, wouldn't you?
MARK: Probably. Doesn't mean we have to have a meal together.
AARON: Erm, yes, it does, especially because you went and pushed it along, so now suck it up and get ready!
"Alright," Mark replies as Aaron goes to the door to talk to David... or not because of course, he is heading out and literally closes the door in David's face!!
Harold's café
"I don't Like what you're doing Yashvi," Dipi says after Yashvi brings her up to date on what is happening. Dipi guessed she was down so the lass updated her mum on the Ben developments or not (since she hasn't actually managed to tell him) and the post-formal party invite. However, after a silent signal from Mishti in the kitchen, she softens her stance to say how she knows about it being easy to get caught up into something.
YASHVI: Yeah, and I hate that I'm caught up in it all, but when I'm hanging out with her, people suddenly respect me.
DIPI: Is it worth sacrificing Ben for?
YASHVI: Maybe he'll never find out.
DIPI: Look, if you don't want to tell him about starting the relationship rumours, that's your call. But the truth will come out sooner or later, so you need to be prepared for that.
The Waterhole
Its Tyler's turn to quiz Hamish about his relationship with Fay, and he tells everyone that they had a strong connection - he used to travel to Adelaide every weekend in his boat. Given who he is sitting with, he then apologises for his behaviour, putting it down to being, "young, thoughtless, selfish."
Hamish asks Mark if he saw Russell before he died (no) and is curious about the playing card when Mark mentioned it. "Yeah, we still haven't figured that one out yet," Aaron adds in. Hamish tells Mark that he never met Russell and apologises again to them all but is happy with the Tyler he has now met.
HAMISH: Tyler, you seem like a fine young man.
(Later)
We re-join the group later and it's a much more relaxed affair now - there is even some laugher... mostly at Tyler's expense though over his nickname! Eventually though, Mark decides its time to go home but before he does, Hamish sincerely thanks them, he "never dreamt today would go as well as it has." Tyler invites him to stick around, which he will and heads to the bar to pay the bill.
When Hamish is at the bar, he pulls out his wallet and in it we see who has the ace of spaces card the boys are looking for - him!
Unmissable Neighbours!
- Aaron refusing to let David out of the doghouse.
- Hamish letting slip that he appeared to know Russell.
- Karl wanting to start a revolution!
- Sonya agreeing to go along with a plan.
