Lassiters Complex
A male stranger stands looking at the 'business for sale' sign outside Harold's as Amy passes by him to head into the store but discovers its locked. "You're up early for a public holiday," David points out as he spots her but turns out she hasn't been to bed (Elly/Paige went home early but she was enjoying herself too much to go home) and is now in desperate need of some coffee! David wants them to walk and talk as he's something to tell her but she isn't in a fit state to absorb anything, however does tell him about Leo buying her out of the backpackers. This is news to David and he wonders where Leo got the cash from.
AMY: It's amazing how much you can scrounge up when you really don't want to work with someone!
Backpackers
Tyler is surprised to hear that Amy is no longer doing any maintenance when he brought something that needed fixing to Leo's attention before he rushes out of the place.
David swaps places with him and wants to chat about Amy's sacking, however Leo isn't in the mood to chat about that nor about where he got the money from to buy her out. Leo does however want to chat about David coming out though and who is next to be told (Amy and Paul) but isn't too impressed to hear that it was Paul's chat with David that gave him the push to come out. "It helped didn't it!" David replies and Leo tells him to look after himself, he will be fine.
Number 28
Ben is narked at his grandparents for forcing him to study (he's got a tutoring session lined up with Finn) in preference to spending his holidays at the beach with Xanthe/Brooke.
SUSAN: You'll thank us later.
Tyler drops Ben in it by coming around to drop off some textbooks he left at the backpackers, earning a scowling look from his grandparents! Ben asks how the garage is (busy) and is positively drooling over some ye olde car that Tyler has at the garage needing repaired but which is sadly for him off limits and this time it's he who scowls at his grandparents as they sit down to breakfast when Tyler leaves.
Harold's Cafe
Elly tells Finn he should be enjoying the holidays when she walks into the store and spots him prepping for some new stuff he wants to try with the kids (mindfulness/meditation) which he thinks might help the school's dropout rates. She does though seem interested in that and suggests talking to Susan since she's always under pressure from the Board about kids dropping out of school before they get to Year 12.
Number 24
Steph drops off an Easter card for Mark that Nell did as Sonya apparently wasn't too keen on bringing it round. She is curious to know why he's avoiding the house and Mark comes up with the excuse that because of what they've been through, they pull each other into "a sadness spiral". Nell is missing him though, so she invites him along to the lake where they're having a big Easter picnic for her to show Nell that they are all still there for her. "Are you sure Sonya wants me there?" Mark tentatively asks and Steph reassures him she does "because she wants what's best for Nell." Despite the prospect of Toadie being there, Mark is still keen to go for Nell's sake,
STEPH: You're family.
MARK: (muttering to himself) Not sure Toadie will agree with that.
Ramsay Street
Steph is doing her best to persuade Toadie to come along to the picnic even if Mark will be there.
STEPH: Come on, her mum's sad most of the time. Her dad's not even living with her anymore and the guy that she's always seen as her uncle is turning into a ghost. Nelly's really missing him.
Toadie asks if it's not her that is missing Mark and she concedes she is but reminds him that he's the one that put that suggestion in her head and Aaron also mentioned Mark's confused about his feelings for her. She does add thought that it's too soon to be brought up with him.
TOADIE: And are you sure there is nothing going on between him and Sonya?
STEPH: (puzzled) Why would you say that?
TOADIE: Because she slept over the other night.
Steph looks stunned at what Toadie has just told her and he repeats what Mark said to him (that they were just talking about the baby) but he couldn't get a straight answer out of Sonya. "They've barely seen each other since then," Steph points out, including Mark not visiting #30, hence the picnic. "I'm am in," Toadie replies and agrees to bring along Easter eggs too on one condition.
TOADIE: That these two aren't together.
STEPH: No. No, of course they're not.
TOADIE: Fine, then I'll put on a happy face.
STEPH: Good on you.
Lassiters Complex
Paul is after Toadie to do some legal work for him because his own lawyer is too slow - he wants his will changed to include David/Leo in his will even though it now means less cash for his other kids. Toadie agrees to do the work once the holidays are over.
David spots his dad for a chat and mentions to him about Leo buying Amy out. Paul isn't too surprised to hear that news and agrees to do some digging as to how Leo got the money to buy Amy out as David is fearful Leo has gone to a loan shark.
Backpackers
Paul decides to go chat with Leo about David's concerns but his questions are met with silence. Leo eventually finds his voice when Paul offers to pay them off but it's not to thank his dad for his kind offer, instead it's to blame Paul for getting him into this mess because he got Kim pregnant and apparently, she kept quiet because Paul didn't want kids. "I actually did care about your mum," Paul tells him but Leo doesn't buy it especially as he didn't even check-up/call on Kim.
PAUL: Leo, I'm sorry. Alright I'm sorry for everything.
LEO: It's too late. I never wanted to know my father and that hasn't changed.
Lassiters Complex
And it would appear that Amy did have a rather big night out as Jack tells her she texted him at 3am wanting him to join her! Jack's offer of shouting her brekkie, as a thank you for yesterday, also comes with a subtle chat too about her partying. Amy explains that "this is my time" as she's now making up for never having the "crazy party time" in her 20s what with raising Jimmy, helping her mum's mental issues, getting into debt thanks to her ex then paying it off for him. Jack asks if she's got room for the church and Amy explains that she just wants a rule free life.
JACK: I guess I can still be your friend.
AMY: Then prove it! I want bacon and I need a lot of it!
Number 28
Despite the animation with the uneaten Easter eggs, Ben isn't engaged at all in the study session with Finn. Eventually he apologises for not being in the mood and explains that he's missing the garage. Finn asks if he's talked to his grandparents yet (no) and puts his foot in it when he asks if Ben's talked to his dad (he explains he died when he was a baby). Ben contemplates sucking it up and just finishing the year since he doesn't actually hate school.
FINN: What happened to your dad proves we only get a tiny moment to make a mark on this planet. If you really want to be a mechanic, go be a mechanic, don't waste time being half-hearted.
The Waterhole
"He blames me for everything," Paul tells David over a coffee but knows the reason why - because he was selfish.
PAUL: I mean I'd like to think I was supporting your mum but there was a part of me that didn't want to know whether you were mine.
DAVID: At least you're being honest with yourself, it takes serious guts.
Amy arrives and apologises for being incommunicado, she was screening her calls. Now they are both there, David tells them he's got something big to say to the before he loses his nerve.
DAVID: You two are my family now, so I want you to know I'm gay. I know you probably already knew but it's taken me ages to get here because I really wanted to be normal... whatever that means! Hiibaachan knew and she told me my life would be easier if I was straight but it's harder to live a lie and I hope that the people I love will accept me for who I am.
"Of course we will," Amy replies with a big smile on her face then hits her dad on the arm when he asks if there's "anyone waiting in the wings."
DAVID: Let's just take it one giant leap at a time shall we.
PAUL: You'll get no pressure from me.
AMY: Or me.
Number 28
Thankfully the noise Susan is making is thanks to a shoulder massage from Karl and not something else!!! She is also very complimentary of Finn for voluntarily taking over the Schools Community Engagement Committee which means no more meeting local Councillors from the Principal.
Ben interrupts to ask for a family meeting - he thanks them both for what they've done for him, Karl especially for the work experience at the hospital, although he's still not happy Ben bypassed the tonsillectomy!
BEN: Point is, that experience made me realise I shouldn't do something just because I'm good at it or because I'm smart enough. I should do it because I'm passionate about it and that's mechanics. I've always been interested in it but I've really started to love it lately. I've realised I want to make it my career, just like dad did.
Both of them are stunned at what Ben's said to them and Susan is the one to say they will support him however they can. He's also looked into what certificates he'll need and the Eden Hills TAFE has that covered. She's impressed at him doing his homework and gives him her blessing to "go for it" once he's finished Year 12 and suggests having a word with Lucas about an apprenticeship. Ben then drops the bombshell - he doesn't want to wait that long.
BEN: I'm quitting school.
Lassiters Park
Mark finds Sonya skiving from her paperwork because she's thinking of Caitlin. Both admit to missing each other and Mark adds that he misses Nell too and loved the card he got from her that Steph delivered. Mark thanks her for the invite to the picnic as he's looking forward to seeing Nell again. Sonya confesses that she's been avoiding him after the kiss and he admits he's been thinking about it too.
SONYA: And?
MARK: I can't separate my feelings at the moment, I don't know what's real and what's grief.
SONYA: I... I just... I want you to know that it wasn't unwanted. I kissed you back because that feeling, that closeness... for a few seconds I mean that took away the pain.
The pair start kissing each other, watched on by the guy who was looking at the 'business for sale' sign outside Harold's earlier.
Once they pull away though, both realise that "something isn't there" and agree to go back to simply being friends although when they hug, Mark doesn't seem as happy at being just friends as Sonya does from the look on his face.
Number 30
And talking of that guy, Steph answers the door and finds him on the doorstep.
STEPH: Can I help you?
MYSTERY GUY: Yes, I'm looking for Jarrod Rebecchi, you maybe know him as Toadfish.
STEPH: Yes, I know him well. He's living next door at Number 28.
Mystery guy apologises for not knowing that and Steph asks if she can pass on a message but he replies no because he'd "rather surprise him." As he goes to head off, Steph tells him that he won't find Toadie at #28 because he's out with his daughter. "I can wait," he replies before heading off.
The Waterhole
Elly is stunned to see Finn actually taking some time off (he's playing pool) and agrees to go out with him to the city later that night. She then gets a text saying Ben is dropping out of school so goes to rush off home and the date is now a "maybe" and she also turns down spending time shopping with Amy.
Finn gets out his iPad and updates his 'dossier' to write up about Ben leaving school.
Ramsay Street
Toadie tells Nell about the picnic they are going to have as they walk up the street. He then spots mystery guy sitting by his car and from both of their expressions, they recognise each other as they make their way towards each other.
MYSTERY GUY: You know who I am, right?
TOADIE: You haven't changed that much.
MYSTERY GUY: You sure have! Guess it's been a while since we were face to face?
TOADIE: Twenty years.
MYSTERY GUY: Yes, about that.
Mystery guy then looks down to where Nell is standing.
MYSTERY GUY: This must be Nell? Pleased to meet you little lady.
TOADIE: Nellyfish, this is my older brother Shane, he's your uncle.
Both shake hands with each other while saying hello.
