Dee's room, Robinsons motel
Toadie turns down the offer of another drink from Dee and suggests instead they do lunch tomorrow with Sonya but she turns the invite down as she has other plans, but is a bit evasive as to what they are.
Number 30
Steph answers the door to a rather drunken Mark (he was unsure whether to use his key or not) and she tries to get rid of him because it's late and suggests they chat in the morning instead. "I really miss you," he says and Steph replies goes to say that now isn't the time.
MARK: Why don't you want my baby?
STEPH: I never said that.
MARK: I know that's how you feel. I accepted Charlie like he's my own kid.
Steph would rather they have the deep meaningful's when he is sober and somewhat reluctantly he heads off but not before making it clear he wants to have the baby with her.
Sonya comes through from the bedroom just as Steph closes the front door and has it confirmed that it was Mark who called and looks concerned after Steph said that Mark wasn't okay.
Number 24 (next day)
Tyler doesn't think too much about the apology that Mark gives him for what happened the previous night. He then tells his bother that he needs to deal with it "if things aren't working out with Steph."
MARK: And you're a relationship expert all of a sudden are you?! Last time I checked, you were shacked up with your school-aged girlfriend.
TYLER: Well I heard Steph called off the engagement. Doesn't look good.
MARK: You're in no position to offer advice!
TYLER: Really? 'Cos I almost lost my job because of you and that puts me in a pretty good position, and the next time you want to blow off some steam, do it somewhere I'm not working because I'd like to stay employed!
Number 30
Toadie wakes Sonya up by placing a chocolate heart on her face but their early morning is interrupted when he gets a text from Willow asking if he knows what Dee is up to today as she is worried. Toadie explains a bit more to his wife (about the secret mission Dee is doing), and she suggests he should check up on Dee, for Willow's sake if anything.
Dee's room, Robinsons motel
Turns out that it wasn't Willow who sent the text, but rather Dee as we cut to her motel room and can hear that Willow is in the shower. A text is sent back to Toadie, indicating that Dee is on her way to Harold's. And of course Willow will be none the wiser about the texts sent as Dee has deleted them from the phone.
Lassiters Complex
Ned stops during his run when he spots Elly sitting outside Harold's but the poor lad would have been better to have kept running as she has a right go at him for winding Mark up when they were out last night. He reminds her about what Mark did to him!
NED: Still I have to say, for a guy with a rod up his butt I thought he'd have more self-control, even Tyler wouldn't back him up.
Steph catches the tail end of their conversation and Elly explains that Mark/Ned had a bit of a disagreement last night, quickly confirming that was just words only. "Honestly, it wasn't a big deal was it!!!" Elly adds while giving Ned a look that says 'agree with me'!
Their chat is then interrupted when Steph moves away to read a text she's just got from Victoria saying I know it's wrong, but I can't stop thinking about you.
Lassiters car park
Dee is waiting around for Toadie to arrive then when she spots him arriving in his car, gets into a waiting taxi. As soon as the taxi moves away, he pulls out of the parking space and starts following it.
Werribee Mansion
Turns out Dee has headed back to the venue where she and Toadie married in 2003. Dee pretends to be surprised when Toadie arrives and explains why he's here (the text from Willow).
TOADIE: What are you doing here?
DEE: I wanted to see the place where we were married.
She admits that the secrecy was in case he felt weird now he's married to someone else.
TOADIE: Despite anything that's happened afterwards, it is still one of the most important days of my life... and yours.
Dee admits that as she gets to know him again, the gaps in her memory are being filled in, although there is still so much more to remember especially around the day of the accident hence the visit to see if it will trigger anything. Toadie admits he was going to suggest it but didn't think she'd want to come, whereas for Dee it's something else that she needs to know.
TOADIE: Okay, let's go back to the day we were married.
Robinsons motel
Mark drops by to apologise to Steph for his behaviour last night and wants her to take a break so they can chat, but Steph replies she can't as she is too busy servicing a unit.
MARK: And I need answers Steph. You say that you haven't given up on me and the baby, even though you broke off the engagement, but you're so distant.
Steph doesn't want to chat, which riles Mark up, including the fact she is ignoring him trying to contact her and that she can't even look at him. "I don't know what to say," she eventually comes up with and Mark pleads with her just to be honest.
MARK: Do you still love me?
STEPH: Yes.
MARK: Do you still want to make a family with me and the baby?
STEPH: I don't know.
MARK: I get that you're worried about your mental health, and the effect that this change will have on it, but once the baby comes, once it's ours.
STEPH: Yes, I know, I know, I know. That's when things suddenly become perfect again. What if they don't?
MARK: It will. I'm committed to you for the long haul.
Mark then stops as he gets a message from work and asks that she comes over to his for lunch, which she agrees to. As soon as Mark leaves the unit, Steph goes into her pocket and gets out a bottle of meds before taking one of the tablets.
Erinsborough Backpackers exterior
Elly drops by to apologise to Tyler for Mark/Ned's behaviour last night but he's okay. She then unloads on him about how unreliable Ned is but he points out that Ned is here now and suggests that it's worth taking a chance.
Werribee Mansion
Toadie talks through what happened with Dee on their wedding day, aided with flashbacks for the viewers. "I thought I was the luckiest guy in the world," he tells her.
TOADIE: We were surrounded by friends and family, it was like they didn't even exist, it was just the two of us.
He then starts repeating some of the vows he said that day:
TOADIE: These are the hands of your best friend. They're strong and full of love. And they're holding yours on our wedding day, as I promise to love you till the end of my days.
He then repeats what she said that day:
DEE: These are the hands that work beside yours. As we build our future together. As we laugh, as we cry, and share our innermost secrets and dreams.
A very emotional Toadie tells her he still remembers the vows... every word of it.
TOADIE: It's all I've had. (Composing himself) And then we were then married, you were my wife, and I was holding and kissing my wife.
Toadie by this point is crying and an equally emotional Dee comments that she hopes the kiss wasn't a peck on the cheek, that they really went for it!
TOADIE: (laughing) Yeah, we didn't hold back!
"Good!" Dee remarks and Toadie asks if what he's said has helped her... or is she glad she "can't remember any of it?" Taking his hand, she tells him that it's helped.
Number 32 backyard
Ned is somewhat surprised to see Elly given she is supposed to be not talking to him, but she explains that she doesn't keep grudges. He shows her into the pool area so she can see what he was about to show his dad.
Ned hands over his phone to Brad and he reads aloud what is on the screen - there is a tattoo parlour for sale on the Gold Coast. "So you're moving to Queensland?" Elly asks and Ned confirms he is, Maxine has put him onto the place as she knows the owner quickly adding it's not biker related! He thinks it could be the start of a whole new life for him and is pleased when Brad gives his blessing, even though it means him leaving.
Number 24
Mark is somewhat bemused when he spots Aaron dressed up as Cupid (he's off to meet the man of his dreams at a fancy dress party). Despite Steph asking that he didn't go to much trouble, Mark is pulling out all the stops for lunch with Steph - there is red roses and champagne as he tries to rewind back in time to the champers they should have had at their engagement lunch.
AARON: I hope it works out for you.
MARK: Yes. Yes it will, I mean we both want the same things, I just need Steph to realise that.
Robinsons motel
Victoria comes to talk to Steph, somewhat surprised that she texted her back but glad that despite everything they are still friends. Steph thanks her for the comment before adding that Victoria has "got the short end of the stick lately." She knows Steph is going through a rough patch and wants to help. Steph admits that the surrogacy is pretty overwhelming and tells her about the lunch date with Mark so they can work everything out.
VICTORIA: That's a good thing, right?
STEPH: Uh well... not if I don't have any answers for him, it's not. He and Sonya are really pushing hard for me to commit but um, what if it's just not right for me, for Mark, for the baby. It's a lot of pressure.
VICTORIA: You're a strong woman. You can figure this out.
STEPH: Yeah, but what if I can't? Like it's...it's really doing my head in, I can't think clearly.
VICTORIA: If you want to chat about it, you know talk things through, I'm absolutely here.
STEPH: You know what I'd really like to do, it's just ah, just forget about it all for a while, just get out of my head.
VICTORIA: But what about Mark, isn't he waiting for you?
STEPH: Oh let's just... let's just hang out for a bit.
VICTORIA: Yeah, of course.
Werribee Mansion
"I just need closure," Dee explains to Toadie so that she can move on but then it's gotten complicated as there is no money to move on with. Toadie reminds her he will help out as much as he can financially with Willow, but Dee would rather not pester him as he's got so much on his plate (Mark/Sonya).
DEE: I don't want to complicate things further...although maybe I have, maybe that's a given!
TOADIE: Pretty much, yean!
DEE: Our lives are so full of uncertainty at the moment, I just wish I knew how things were going to turn out. Maybe you want the same thing?
Number 30
Sonya likes the red roses Toadie has arrived home with but still wants to know where he has been! Toad explains he's been with Dee and went to the place where they got married, to help jog her memory. "Why all the secrecy around it?" Sonya asks and he replies that he didn't want to freak himself out. Sonya now looks more sympathetic towards her husband and asks how he is although she guesses it would have been "pretty rough." Toadie confirms it was but he's fine.
Robinsons motel
The chat with Victoria looks like it has done Steph the world of good as she seems so much more relaxed now. Victoria was happy to oblige as she likes spending the time with Steph.
VICTORIA: But you already know that.
(Steph nods her head)
VICTORIA: Mark must be wondering where you are?
STEPH: Yes, I feel awful.
VICTORIA: Can I make an observation?
STEPH: Go for it.
VICTORIA: Mark, the surrogacy, it's like you know what you have to do but you're just putting it off.
STEPH: Well that's not really true, I just feel like I need to spend some time away from it. I probably shouldn't have called you, sorry.
VICTORIA: But you did and here we are.
STEPH: Yes.
You can just about cut the UST with a knife and eventually Steph leans forward and kisses Victoria.
