Number 30
Toadie and Steph are bantering away about the cricket match when Mark arrives bearing a letter that was left on the front porch. Sonya opens it to discover it's an anniversary card, commenting that its strange as they were married in the March. Once she opens it to read the message, she doesn't like what it says (and refuses to say what it is out loud) before passing it to Toadie to see/read and he doesn't look happy either.
Cue titles and there is an update this week! Xanthe has been removed from the teen shot, leaving just Piper/Ben sitting on the bridge. Steph and Elly share a shot now (sitting at a table in Sonya's Nursery) as all the Canning's are together on one shot in the backyard of #26.
Number 30
Mark carefully puts the card into a ziplock bag so it can be forensically checked. Toadie tells them about thinking that someone was in the house and explains to Sonya why he didn't tell her previously (he didn't want to worry Sonya unnecessarily). Mark thinks that the contents suggests it was aimed at a woman and Steph wonders if it was her or Sonya. Sonya immediately thinks it's her because she is the Mayor and Clive is a suspect again as he was released from prison earlier that day. Mark heads off to go see Clive and orders them to make sure the house is locked up securely.
Number 26
Sheila wishes Gary was out on a date with Terese instead of tending to a feathered friend (he's found a lost racing pigeon) but explains it's done and dusted and doesn't wish to discuss it further.
Harold's café
Xanthe shows the last customers out and they exchange places with Cooper. She tells him the store is closed but he enters none the less and locks the door behind him. He wants to know why she is pulling out of meeting him to work on their film project. Xanthe is scared witless and is continually backing away from him and eventually she grabs a chair to ward him off, simultaneously telling him to back off in case he jumps her again. He replies he doesn't want that, simply wants her at rehearsals as this project is worth 30 percent of the marks, although does threaten to tell everyone that she is crazy! After that comment, she puts the seat down and threatens retaliating by spreading it around that he's a slimeball.
COOPER: Go ahead, who are they going to believe?
Number 30 (next day)
Mark is round with an update - Clive has denied it was him but he doesn't have an alibi, and adds that the card only contained their fingerprints. "I just want this whole thing to be over," Sonya says before she/Toadie head out the door.
Steph tells Mark of another development - Max called to see how Charlie's party went and she felt obliged to tell him what was happening and he's instructed Steph to put Charlie on the first plane back to Fiji if she can't guarantee his safety. Mark has a solution - the pair of them move into #24 (since its #30 that's been targeted) but Steph feels bad leaving but is talked into it and Mark hands over a key so she can move in.
Number 26
Sheila isn't amused Gary has the pigeon inside #26 and orders him to find its rightful owner.
Ben/Piper arrive to pick Xanthe up and to ask Sheila if they can film in the garden at lunchtime (they want to re-create the snake in the shed for their project). Xanthe finally appears but is still in her PJs citing that she is sick but Sheila orders her to school (as she's behind in her marks) unless she's in a coffin!
(Later)
Xanthe now tries to appeal to her dad to let her stay home and he isn't falling for it either, putting her evasion of school down to boy troubles... in particular Ben! While she admits there is some awkwardness between them, that isn't the reason and after being forced to say aloud the family motto (Canning's are made of tough stuff) is sent off to her room to dress for school.
School playground
Alison is getting very impatient waiting for Xanthe to show up for their rehearsal and eventually she appears apologising for her lateness. Ben heads off to meet Piper (kissing Alison goodbye) and the trio discuss whether or not to have the kiss in the final scene (Xanthe thinks it's not needed while Alison/Cooper do). Elly appears and Alison moans to her about Xanthe, so she asks for an explanation but rather than giving one, Xanthe declares she that she's quitting citing she didn't want to be in this group in the first place.
Number 26
Sheila has taken it upon herself to find out who the racing pigeon belongs to and orders Gary to take it back to its owner (they live nearby).
School
Elly tracks Xanthe down to get to the bottom of things especially since media is her best subject but it's not working and Xanthe stomps off muttering that they can find someone else and she'll join her own group.
Susan spots Xanthe bolting and asks Elly about it and she explains about Xanthe wanting to quit her media project but thinks there is something bigger going on.
Number 26
Gary is now the proud carer of the racing pigeon (and two more) after discovering when returning the lost one that the owner is in a care home and the daughter isn't interested in them but will let Gary tend/race them. Sheila is happy to let him be involved as long as they don't appear at #26 nor poo on her gnomes! Oh, it also turns out that the old guy was also the owner of the cat Piper befriended but the daughter doesn't mind if Piper keeps it as she is allergic to cats.
Number 24
Toadie helps Steph move into #24 and they're happy for her to be there commenting that they might need to move out themselves if they don't find out who it is soon.
Steph has been thinking while packing and is wondering if it was Belinda who sent the card as it's about 2 years since they first hooked up although adds that the writing wasn't hers and doesn't think it's something she'd do. Both wonder about the photo on the floor and if it's Belinda who has been in the house but Toadie doesn't think it was her as he's certain she was in Bega when he called.
Number 26
Ben/Piper are about to start filming when Xanthe arrives to ask if they've heard she quit her group (they have) and if she can join theirs. Before they can reply, Alison arrives to have a go at Xanthe for bailing and to tell her she won't get to join Ben/Piper's group. While Piper is happy for Xanthe to join, Ben says no but more because they're already at an advanced stage with their project plus she is a member of another group. Xanthe is fine with Ben's decision and informs Alison she isn't re-joining their group, she's got an idea that she will progress herself.
School playground
Xanthe is trying to get some alone time but Cooper finds her. She orders him to go and goes to walk away from him, but he pulls her arm to stop that (with enough force she yelps) then using his other arm, pushes her back against one of the trees. She tries to tell him he is hurting her but he ignores that to tell her to "stop acting like an uptight little girl." Xanthe manages to break away very quickly and orders Cooper not to touch her again while getting away from him.
COOPER: That's it, your life's officially over.
Elly arrives just as Xanthe has run off/Cooper said what he did.
Number 24
As Steph is taking more stuff over to #24, she spots something in the front garden - a decapitated Barbie type doll that has a black leather jacket. Mark wonders if it's one of Nell's (as she was round for the party yesterday) but Toadie isn't sure however Steph is certain she's never seen her play with a doll like that.
Mark heads inside to make lunch and alone, Steph asks Toadie if it's weird. "Yes a little, all things considered," he replies and tells her not to worry, it's probably Nell's but Steph doesn't look convinced as they move to go into the house.
As they make their way into the house, someone is watching them unseen of course.
School
Ben/Piper are reviewing their film footage when they spot Xanthe and Piper tells Ben they should have let Xanthe join their group. Ben finally reveals the reason Xanthe wants out - she made a move on Cooper and when he rejected her, she "cracked it and ran out of the rehearsal room" although Piper isn't so sure that is the reason.
Elly approaches Xanthe to say she witnessed their fight earlier and Xanthe explains that Cooper was mad at her for leaving their group. "Are you sure it's not something more than that?" Elly asks wants to know what Xanthe has done to make the calm and collected Cooper mad!
XANTHE: It's not what I did to him, it's what he did to me!
Number 26
During the final commercial break, Xanthe has told all to Elly and in turn her family that she was assaulted at Lassiters. Sheila is (ironically) delighted to have not trusted Cooper/had the pull the wool over her eyes. "He fooled me," Xanthe quietly says and Sheila is quick to reassure her granddaughter that none of it was her fault.
GARY: I'm going to flatten the little bas...
Elly knows that Gary is angry (like she is) and tries to tell him that it needs to be dealt with through the proper channels beginning with telling Susan about the "incident" so she can decide whether the police need to be involved. Both Gary and Sheila are unamused at Elly describing it as an "incident"! "I feel sick," Xanthe say and Elly warns them that it's going to be full on and she is already worried that Cooper is going to turn things around to make it look like Xanthe is crazy/she asked for it.
ELLY: You can't keep quiet about this Xanthe.
SHEILA: Elly's right, you've done nothing wrong and this boy has to suffer the consequences of his actions.
GARY: And if the system doesn't sort him out I will!!!!
ELLY: I think that what your dad is saying is we are with you 100 percent all the way.
Xanthe nods her head so the next step can begin.
