Walter is emotional as he tells Sonya he was in love with her mother, and when her parents were going through a rough patch, she turned to him. When she found out she was pregnant, her parents wanted to stick with their marriage and they all agreed they should raise Sonya.

WALTER: I didn't get a chance to be a father to you Sonya. And I wasn't much of an uncle either. But I'd really like to be, if you'll let me.

No 30
Sonya asks Walter about the crash. He explains that he wanted to tell her the truth, but her parents refused. She asks why he disappeared afterwards and he says that he lost his brother and the woman he loved. He wasn't in a fit state to look after her.

SONYA: Yeah, well, my son was my reason for getting clean. And I could have been yours if you'd actually really wanted it.
WALTER: Well, maybe you are a better person than I am.
SONYA: (sighs) So why now?
WALTER: It's time.

He leaves, asking her to let him know what she decides.

Harold's
Susan mentions something from the season finale of Glugen, but Nate and Aaron haven't seen it yet and Aaron accuses her of spoilers. Nate gets a phone call, and has to leave. Aaron looks upset.

No 32 garden
Paige and Tyler are hitting the punch-bag in turn. She says that she is giving John some space. She says Mandy messed with his head, and she cares about him.

TYLER: You keep denying it, but you're in love with him.
PAIGE: (laughs)
TYLER: You wouldn't be putting up with him otherwise.
PAIGE: I'm not. I'm just seeing where it goes.
TYLER: Ah. And if he'd wanted it to go somewhere, he'd have done something about it.

She says that she might take Courtney up on her offer to go out on the town. She invites Tyler, but he declines.

No 24
Mark is showing Aaron a leather sofa, and enthusing about his plans for clean lines and storage. Tyler arrives with "the comfiest chair in the world" which someone was throwing out. Mark is horrified.

Waterhole
John tells Karl that one of Lassiter's cleaners saw him the day of Hotel Disaster™.

Paige comes in. She orders a bottle of Chardonnay, pays for it, then comes over to invite John to come out with her and Courtney. He says he's busy. She walks out without the wine.

No 28
Nate tells Susan that his application for re-enlistment has been accepted. Susan is sad, and asks him where it leaves him and Aaron. Nate says he's going to ask Aaron to come with him.

Waterhole
John takes a bottle of wine (Paige's) and leaves. Karl tells Nate he'll be missed, then Nate goes to talk to Aaron, while Karl joins Walter.

Nate invites Aaron to join him in Darwin. Aaron asks what he's going to do there.

NATE: Keep doing what you're doing now. The internet's everywhere.

He says that he thinks they could both be happy there.

No 30
Sonya gets off the phone with Robyn, and she tells Toadie that Robyn confirmed that she thought there was something between her mum and Walter. Toadie tells her to be careful.

SONYA: I will. But there's enough now for me to believe that he's my father Jarrod. And... that I've been given a second chance. And that... well, that Nell will have a new granddad...

Toadie says she always wants to do what's best for everyone else and not herself. He reminds her that Walter left when they needed him, and she says that she left Callum until she got cleaned up.

SONYA: I came back to get my second chance, and maybe that's what Walter's doing now.

Toadie gets a text from Karl saying that Walter is in a bad way, and asking them to come down.

No 24 drive
Mark is pushing Tyler's armchair down the drive, saying that he's not having it in his house. Aaron arrives and Tyler appeals to him. However, Aaron says he might not be around for long, and he tells them about Nate. But he says he can't leave.

MARK: OK, so how badly do you wanna be with him?

Aaron says Nate's timing is terrible, as his business is just taking off (really?) and he'll miss his brothers. Mark repeats his question.

Waterhole
Walter is "merry" and greets Sonya with drunken enthusiasm. He asks if he should be celebrating or commiserating. Karl apologises, saying Walter got "messy" very quickly. Toadie explains that he's a recovering alcoholic.

TOADIE: Is this how you make a good impression, is it?
WALTER: No, this is my way of passing the time while I wait for the guillotine to fall.

Toadie tells Sonya that they should leave, but she says they are taking Walter with them, because he's family.

No 28
Nate tells Aaron that he's starting asap. Now he's made up his mind, there's no point in waiting around. Aaron says that he loved that about Nate from the start, which is why he couldn't understand why Nate left him. So what happens if he does it again? Or he's posted abroad?

NATE: You're not coming with me, are you?
AARON: All I wanted was for us to be together. To be a team. But the message I keep getting from you is that we're only ever a team when it suits you. And then you're off, just the lone wolf.
NATE: I don't wanna break up.
AARON: Neither do I. I love you. I want you to stay here with me so badly.

They hug.

No 32 garden
John turns up with Paige's wine, and tells her that the witness he was meeting turned out to be a dead end.

PAIGE: So you thought you see how option B was doing.
JOHN: Option B? Hmm. That is not how I think of you at all.

He apologises for giving her mixed signals, saying that his feelings are mixed. He says he wants to be around her. She says she feels the same way and tries to kiss him. He pulls away.

JOHN: I want to , but I can't. This is what I'm talking about. There's something in my mind, like an instinct or a muscle memory... I just feel like I'm committed to someone and that's how Mandy got me to ... Yeah.
PAIGE: Obviously you get some sick pleasure out of doing this to me. Leading me on then knocking me back.
JOHN: No I swear that's not what I...
PAIGE: OK, count yourself lucky that I'm ignoring my muscle memory because it's telling me to punch you in the face right now.

She tells him to leave.

Ramsay Street
Nate is putting his luggage in a taxi. That's just a few scenes after we heard he'd re-enlisted. He tells Tyler he hopes he gets a girlfriend; he and Aaron share a hug; he thanks Karl and Susan for giving him a home. Then the taxi leaves.

No 30
Sonya gives Walter a coffee. He says he'll be on his way. She asks if he would do things differently given the chance.

WALTER: What, to be a father to you, a real father? I'd give anything for that chance?
SONYA: Including getting yourself clean?
WALTER: I was gonna do that anyway.
SONYA: Well maybe you're gonna need some support.

They smile at each other.

Harold's
Toadie tells Karl that Sonya is always putting others before herself, and he's worried it's because she's trying to make up for her mistakes.

No 30
Walter says he'll take his lead from Sonya, and she says he's going to have to make some real changes.

WALTER: Well, with my super-girl by my side, I can do anything.
SONYA: Aargh! No, you can't do dad jokes! You have to earn those.

Harold's
Karl says that even if Walter lets her down, Sonya will have to go through this journey anyway.

TOADIE: So hope for the best but prepare for the worst?
KARL: It's all you can do.

No 24
Tyler and Aaron commiserate with Aaron over Nate's departure. Aaron gets a call from Tom, who isn't asking for a date as he supposes. He tells Tyler that Tom thinks he knows who stole his money: Xanthe.

AARON: Yeah, and he wants it back.
