No. 30
Charlie stands on the doorstep looking confused, and asks Steph why she wasn't in hospital - she tells him that she's been released.
CHARLIE: Does that mean you're better?
STEPH: Yup. Yeah, I'm all good now. Didn't your Dad and Philippa tell you?
CHARLIE: Mum and Dad never talk about you.
STEPH: I know I wasn't well last time we saw each other, and I know I scared you. I'm so sorry my boy. Please tell me you believe me.
CHARLIE: I hate you!
Cue opening titles!
Ramsay Street
Steph frantically follows Charlie out of No. 30 and says she can explain.
STEPH: Please, I've never ever stopped loving you, I've always, always wanted us to be together!
CHARLIE: I want to be with Mum and Dad in Fiji!
Lyn and Susan rush up to intervene, and Charlie shouts and Lyn for bringing him to Erinsborough to see Steph. Susan takes Charlie inside No. 28, and Lyn desperately tries to comfort a hysterical Steph.
STEPH: I'm his mum! I AM!
No. 32
Lauren's doing a sketch of Doug and Brad playing checkers at the table. Paige enters with Mark, and greets Doug, showing him a mug that Mark got her as a wedding present. Lauren shows Paige the large parcel from Mary in Singapore, and it's a wedding dress! Doug gets confused about Mark's identity, and has to be reminded that the wedding is taking place tomorrow. He gets flustered about forgetting to get them a present and leaves for the bathroom. Paige is upset at how quickly Doug's Alzheimer's is progressing, but Brad and Lauren remind him that he's had a lot to adapt to.
No. 28
Susan comforts Lyn, who says that situation couldn't have turned out worse and she's ruined both Steph and Charlie's lives. Charlie is in the room (and luckily has his headphones in!), and she begs Susan to speak to him, who reluctantly agrees.
No. 32
Brad tells Doug about the Buck's night they held, and Mark says he has to work in the morning before the wedding for a briefing.
PAIGE: He's married to his job. I'm going to be his second wife!
Doug suddenly panics that he can't find his watch, and Paige has to show him that it's on his other wrist. As he gets himself more confused, Brad suggests they both head to bed. Mark reassures Paige that the best they can do is let Doug enjoy their wedding, even if he doesn't remember it.
MARK: Tomorrow we declare ourselves to each other, it's going to be amazing.
PAIGE: I love you.
MARK: I love you too, nearly-Mrs-Brennan.
No. 28
Susan sits down with Charlie and tries to get him to open up. He tells her the last time he saw Steph she screamed at him, and Susan tries to reassure him that she's better now. Charlie can't understand why she didn't get in contact, and why she's friends with Jimmy.
CHARLIE: Philippa's my mum now. She's adopting me. Did you know that?
SUSAN: Yeah, I'd heard that. Is that what you want?
CHARLIE: She's cool.
SUSAN: Oh yeah, I'm sure she is. You know, your mum's pretty cool too. And I know that she's really missing you. Maybe you could just let her tell you that before you leave?
No. 30
Susan tells Steph, Lyn and Toadie what Charlie said to her, and Steph says that she was never allowed to contact him. Susan tells her not to give up hope, then gets a text from Paige with some last minute queries and heads off. Toadie warns that if Steph speaks to Charlie and it doesn't go well, it will make the situation a whole lot worse.
LYN: Can you stop trying to scare her, Toad!
TOADIE: I wouldn't be doing my job, as your lawyer and your friend, if I didn't warn you.
STEPH: I appreciate what you're saying Toad, but if there's a chance I can make it right, I can't let that go.
No. 32
It's the day of the wedding, and Brad and Lauren tease Paige for fawning over her new dress whilst Doug makes them breakfast. Paige comments how much better Doug is, and Brad says that Pam has told him Doug's at his best in the morning.
Erinsborough Police Station
Mark is paraded through the station wearing a wedding veil and streamers by his colleagues, but stops dead in front of an officious looking woman (it's Detective Sgt. Ellen Crabb!) and apologises. She explains that they discussed the recent robberies in the briefing that Mark missed, and some new information has come to light, and finger-prints on the recovered items incriminate Paige. Mark denies Paige's involvement, but is told he has to stay away from the case. She advises him not to call Paige until they have more information.
No. 32
Paige is tucking into her breakfast, and proposes to Lauren that they bring the wedding forward by a few hours so that Doug can enjoy the wedding and "be there". Lauren thinks it's a lovely selfless idea and says she'll organise for the arrangements to be brought forward - in the mean time it's time for Paige to get ready! Over a musical montage, we see Lauren helping Paige to get dolled up for the wedding.
Erinsborough Police Station
Mark is getting grilled by Det. Crabb as there's new information on the case, and a flat has been found in Paige's name which housed the goods. Mark confesses that he knew about the flat from the anonymous tip-off, but he didn't pursue it further as the flat was empty. Det. Crabb points out that all of the robbery victims were on a survey list from Harold's - things aren't looking good for Paige! Mark insists that Paige would never lie to him, but the detective lets him know that Paige has a second phone, and the records are being checked. Mark says he wants to join the search of the flat but the detective reminds him that he's related to the suspect. He gets a text from Paige asking to call her.
No. 28
Steph is at the dining table with Charlie, and thanks him for agreeing to speak to her.
STEPH: There's just so much I've wanted to say to you, I've wanted to say it for so long, but I'm actually, I'm not allowed. I could get into a lot of trouble with your dad. I sent you a Christmas card?
CHARLIE: I didn't get it.
STEPH: I also wrote these to you, but I didn't send them.
Steph produces a stack of letters and presents them to Charlie.
CHARLIE: Why not?
STEPH: I was still in recovery at the time and I was just scared that I wasn't really getting better. I was scared that I'd blow my chances with you, I was scared that you wouldn't write back. You know you are the reason I've come back here. I wanted to build my life again so you could visit, and then maybe one say you could live with me again.
CHARLIE: You would live in Fiji?
STEPH: No... no.
CHARLIE: But that's where I live, I love it there.
STEPH: Yeah? I don't know the details of how it would all work, I just want us to be together. You are always on my mind, always. You are the most important person in my world.
Ramsay Street
Lyn is loading the car, and Toadie promises Charlie that they should catch up properly next time. Charlie tells Steph that he won't tell Max about seeing her, but she says she'd understand if he decides to. They smile awkwardly at each other, and Charlie hands Steph a note before he gets into the car. Lyn drives away and Toadie and Steph wave them off. She opens the note, which reads "Good to see you", and smiles tearfully.
No. 32 Backyard
The garden is beautifully decorated for the wedding reception, and Lauren and Brad are all dressed up, happy that Paige changed the time of the wedding for Doug. Paige appears from behind some white curtains from the garden room in her wedding dress, and Brad and Lauren fawn over her. Paige is stunned by the set up in the garden, and says that hopefully Mark will have read the messages she's sent him and arrive on time. Brad says as he's not allowed to give a speech, he'll tell her what he would have said.
BRAD: First of all, I'd like to thank you for being so thoughtful about your Pop, you changed the time of the wedding. You have such a big heart. We are both so proud of you, that we are a part of your life, it's been a long road but to be able to be here today, on this special occasion, means everything to us. The last thing I'd like to say is that you've made a great choice. He is a beautiful man, and he absolutely adores you. But if he hurts you... he's history!
PAIGE: I think he's a pretty safe bet.
Lauren has broken into tears and they laugh together.
Erinsborough Police Station
Det. Crabb breaks the news to Mark that a witness at the apartment block saw Paige loading items into a car, and she was acting suspiciously. The phone records show several texts confirming the victim's addresses, but Mark still believes that it was all a set-up. The detective shows Mark the stolen bracelet on which they found Paige's fingerprints, and he has a flashback to the bracelet falling from the bag that Paige was putting into the charity bin. Mark storms out and says he needs some air.
No. 32 Backyard
Still in uniform and in slow motion, Mark hesitantly approaches the garden and sees all of decorations and the wedding guests, and Paige turns to see him. Everyone's voices echo:
LAUREN: Here he is, here he is! The man of the moment.
PAIGE: I knew you got my messages!
Paige goes to embrace Mark, and he looks incredibly uneasy.
