Tyler proudly announces to Karl that Steph now works at the garage, and she invites Karl to go for a coffee. Tyler becomes suspicious at their familiarity and Steph promises that she'll explain everything later, but not before Karl reveals that Steph used to work at the garage. She eventually confesses that she's staying at a hospital in town, and is on day-release.
TYLER: Can someone please explain to me what's going on?
KARL: I think it might be best if you call Lucas.
STEPH: What's Lucas got to do with it?
TYLER: He's the boss.
STEPH: What! Mum said that he sold this place ages ago!?
KARL: How about we go and grab that coffee.
Aaron is nursing an injured foot as Mark chastises him for getting in trouble with the police, but Aaron defends his innocence. Nate checks in, and Aaron explains that there was a fight at the circuit party due to a noise complaint, and he slipped off of the stage. Mark lays into Aaron again for talking back to the police officer and leaves. Aaron asks aloud why anyone would want to shut the party down, and Nate suddenly looks guilty and leaves.
Steph is amazed at how much the bar has changed, and Sheila tentatively greets her and Karl. Steph explains to Karl that she's doing really well, and that she's been transferred to a low-security facility from Bendigo; due to her new medication, the doctors reckon it's unlikely she'll ever have another episode. She explains that if she manages to find a job, she'll be granted permanent day release. Kyle enters and noticing Steph, starts to question Sheila.
KARL: Why didn't you tell Tyler your history?
STEPH: Would you have hired someone who'd just walked off a psych ward?
KARL: Lying on your CV is not the best way to a fresh start.
STEPH: I would have told them eventually. I just figured that I'd nail the interview, get in there and work my butt off, and show them how valuable I am. I just need a chance Karl.
Mark explains Steph's recent history to Tyler, who confesses that he's just hired her. Mark urges Tyler to call Lucas as soon as possible.
At another table, Paul stops in his tracks when he sees Steph, and reveals her child-snatching, teen-killing history to Amy and Liam. Karl intervenes before Paul can confront her, and warns Steph that there will be a lot of people who will question her motives. Karl offers her help should she need it, and she asks Karl to let Toadie know she's returned.
STEPH: Karl come on, we're best friends, we've been through everything together! I just need to see him smiling, and happy, and know everything's okay.
KARL: Steph, it's not that simple. There's something you need to know about Toadie.
Elsewhere, Nate accuses Sheila of making the noise complaint about the circuit party and informs her of what has transpired with Aaron. Sheila confesses, but points out that on the bright side, Aaron won't be dancing for men any time soon. Paul continues to lay it on thick about Steph, but Amy points out that she's heard Paul acted out of character due to a mental illness and he shouldn't be so quick to judge. As Liam goes to get a drink, Paul points out that him and Amy have been getting closer and inquires about Toadie's stolen money, but Amy says there's still no lead. He suggests that Liam might have something to do with it due to his money struggles, but Amy is quick to dismiss his accusations.
PAUL: I'm just considering the facts.
AMY: Then how about considering my feelings? I'm trying to make a go of it with Liam for Jimmy's sake. So I'd appreciate it if you supported that, instead of tearing me down.
Sonya tentatively invites Steph inside, and explains that Karl convinced her to let Steph come. As Steph begins to coo over Nell, Sonya quickly steps in to hold her safely. Nell says hello! Toadie enters and the two friends reunite with a hug, but Sonya doesn't look best pleased.
Paul finishes a phone call, and interrogates Kyle about Liam, who confesses his suspicions about what he overheard. Paul breaks the news to Liam that he's had his hand sanitizer tested and it isn't organic at all.
PAUL: You are a liar and a fraud. The deal's off.
LIAM: You know you're hurting Amy and Jimmy if you do this.
PAUL: No, I'm protecting them. I'm hurting you.
Later, Amy and Liam are playing pool, and Liam suggests that they all move to Sydney as he has good business contacts there. Liam admits that he thinks Paul holds a grudge against him so they should move straight away, but Amy tries to convince him otherwise. He points out how devastated Jimmy will be if he has to move away, and Amy looks like she's been won around.
Sheila apologises to an injured Aaron, but he bemoans the debts he can't pay on his credit card now that he can't work. Sheila puts Nate in hot water by saying she only did it because Nate expressed his doubts to her.
AARON: In the mean time, someone needs to be punished.
SHEILA: Is that a gay thing - should I leave?
AARON: I'm talking about you.
AARON: Ten hours of community service should do the trick.
Sheila reluctantly agrees to do Aaron's chores, and he instructs Nate to help her as he wasn't honest with him.
Toadie reassures Steph that both he and Sonya are coping okay, and asks why she has returned.
STEPH: I remember the stuff I did last time I was here. It was like I was someone else - not that I'm making excuses. Oh, I think about what I did and I regret it every single day.
TOADIE: Right. Wouldn't it be easier to start somewhere new then?
STEPH: Yeah, but I'd feel like I was running away.
TOADIE: That's the old Steph! Never one to back down from a fight.
Steph explains that the medical treatment is helping, but she wants to put things right with the community and gain some self-respect again. Toadie warns Steph to not put too much pressure on herself, and she promises that she didn't know that Lucas had bought the garage, deciding to give it time before she speaks to him.
STEPH: Do you think I'll ever feel normal again?
TOADIE: That's a question I ask myself a lot now. We're in the same boat, you and I.
They both promise to bail each other out when things get tough.
Amy has called Paul to talk, and tries to convince him that Liam is a good person and has changed for the better. She points out the hypocrisy of Paul calling out Liam's parenting, and she tries to persuade Paul to reinstate the deal. Amy wants Jimmy to have the Dad that she never did, and Paul looks convinced.
Later, Paul finds Liam having lunch and demands he explain his true intentions. Paul is won around by Liam's explanation, and says he'll give his products a shot at the hotel, on the condition that he treats Amy and Jimmy well and he re-labels the bottles. Liam phones someone, and promises that a second instalment of money is on its way.
Steph returns with some groceries, and pledges her support to Toadie again. Tyler drops by to break that news that he can't hire Steph anymore.
STEPH: I just need a little more time, once I can figure out what to say to him, there might still be a chance.
TYLER: Well then you'd better do it fast.
STEPH: Yeah, that's what I'm saying though, this is a big deal for me.
TYLER: I'm saying time is not an option. He's on his way.
STEPH: Lucas is here?
TYLER: He wanted to see you, face to face.
Steph looks shocked, and tries to process the information.
